While everyone in the family is finding love and starting families, Chad Berotte feels like his life is at a standstill. His job is stressful as ever because of an issue that reaches back over ten years, and his past situations regarding love have affected him negatively, losing his mother being the main one. The loss of her has played a part in his ability to give and receive love, and he doesn’t know how to get past it. He doesn’t even realize it is an issue for him until Alexis Fontenot enters the picture. Whenever he decides to proceed in a relationship with her, an issue arises to make him retreat. His heart wants her, but his mind wants to refuse the mere thought that there is a woman alive that can make him happy.
Alexis Fontenot has been in love with a man that doesn’t seem to even care enough to acknowledge it. Her body and heart crave love, and the lack of it causes her to make desperate decisions that only offer temporary relief, ultimately leaving her unsatisfied and unfulfilled. Like Chad, she also realizes that she’s craving love so strongly, because of her father’s absence in her life, although she is the one who kicked him out of it. When it comes to Chad, Lexi has the patience of Job and wants to wait for him to realize how strong their chemistry is, only for him to string her along throughout his indecisiveness. His communication skills are lacking, and Lexi’s endurance is starting to fade.
The back and forth is wearing Lexi thin and destroying her from the inside out. What she wants from Chad seems to be impossible, and she wrestles with letting him go for good. Chad, however, realizes that he can’t allow her to slip from his grasp yet again, or he may not be able to get her back this time. Will he get it together in time or will it be too late?
Starting with poetry, writing has always been a constant in Monica's life. The interest began in her teenage years, being in love for the first time. Her love for writing has only progressed. Song lyrics and poetry led to short stories, then one day in her down time, a short story became a 56k word novel. It has been non-stop since then. Being a wife and mother, has only added to the joys of Monica's life. Attaining a BS in Sociology, helping her better understand people and their behaviors, has only helped her become a better writer, understanding characters and their complex personalities. Romance of all types has been her passion, and she plans to continue honing her skills in that genre.
Now Chad….. I knew you were going to stress me out but you ain’t have to do me like that homie!! Whew baby I need a cigarette and I don’t even smoke 🥴.
Chad and Lexi’s story was probably the most anticipated one for me from the moment Chad walked in the living room staring at her during Dylan and Skylar’s story. Monica did not disappoint at all. Chad’s character development has happened since we’ve been reading his brothers story’s so I knew it wasn’t going to be an easy love with him and Lexi. He was such a complicated and complex individual. If you paid attention in previous books then it was obvious he was like night and day compared to his brothers. I’m glad Monica prepared us for the back and forth that we would experience during their story because I felt like I was watching Serena Williams last tennis match with these two. The back and forth was definitely more so from Chad than Lexi. That woman was in love from the first time she laid eyes on him but Chad had some serious demons he was battling that kept him from reciprocating that love.
Chad had the issue with knowledge, corruption at work and unhealed trauma from the loss of his mother and failed romantic relationships. There was no way he could have loved Lexi the way she deserved. He tried and failed miserably all the while breaking Lexi’s heart in the process. Lexi was patient because that n!gg@ took her through it!!!! I can appreciate this story so much because I was Lexi to a certain extent and when you love someone that you know has the potential to give it back but doesn’t know how it’s a constant battle between what the heart wants and what your mind tells you you deserve. Ugh I sympathized with her so much.
I knew Chad was capable of loving Lexi without the attached pain and with the help of Zay and Mr. Berotte he succeeded.
Per usual I loved the constant updates we get about the other siblings. I just knew Shy would have shot up the club by now. I’m interested to see what becomes of his and Brittany’s journey to parenthood. I’m sure that’s difficult to see everyone else around you starting a family. Seneca is still doing Seneca things and I can’t wait for his story! Jericho was an interesting addition to this story and I wouldn’t mind more from him either. This series is like Christmas Day. The gift that keeps on giving!
Chad was beyond annoying because he caused all these issues then played dumb like he wasn’t the cause of him and Lexi not being together. Lexi also had her issues going on and let’s just say she was having fun with the wrong folks 🥴 I felt for my girl because “it’s a small world” quote applied directly to her! With all that being said I’m glad she closure from those who she needed it from and I’m also glad Chad worked through his problems and got the help he needed. Therapy with Zay was something he should’ve done a long time ago! The resolve on the Knowledge/ Earl Riggs situation was interesting and glad we are past that debacle! (One more thing on Lexi Im glad the rest of the Berotte family came around because of not i was jumping in the book to make them all see Chad was an ass and he was to blame!) Now again we have resolved some issues but new ones have risen! DJ and his boo having issues and Ali and this team of security people who each have some mess attached to them, will Jericho leave them alone and find his own happiness? So many questions and just like that I’m on to the next book in this series!
I had been eager to read Chad's story. Admittedly he had worked my nerves in the previous books and I wanted to know him better. Chad was thiiiick 6'3" 270 lbs beautiful Brown skin with a sexy beard. If he wasn't such an over thinker he may have made it to book bae status. He was emotionally all over the place. Between the loss of his mother, a past failed relationship, and recent family scares he was beyond afraid of losing another woman he loved. He wore me and Lexi out denying his feelings for her. Everything in him said she was his one, but his fear ruled him heavily. The back and forth bs and the way he would pull away from her kept her heart and mind in shambles. Lexi was beautiful and I pictured her natural curls in a puff, but more importantly she gave off a caring spirit. I felt sorry for her because she was head over heels in love with Chad, but as the author put it he continuously played in her face. She wanted to be loved so bad and that turned into her entertaining a roster of men to avoid thinking about Chad. As much as Lexi tried to hold her ground with Chad, she just loved him and wanted to be with him. That Jericho situation was a lot, but he definitely seemed fishy and I felt like his story line could have been spicier that's my opinion though. When Chad finally let Lexi in they were so good together. Always joking, keeping each other laughing. Their chemistry was strong and they kept it nasty. I wanted more of them together as a family unit. Zay was such a good brother helping him talk through his emotions. He made sure Lexi knew she was cared for. I am fan of the Berotte's and enjoyed their growth as they found love.
Miss Monica! I know you have heard this time and time again, but you really took us through it this time! Whew Lawd..... I was pissed, annoyed, sad, then my heart was racing, then it broke and finally it smiled! Who knew that silly, loud barking, eating all the time Chad had so many layers? He did get on my last got damn nerve, most of the book; but my heart still went out to him! He was really traumatized by his losses, and the fear of loving and losing for him was real! Then with dealing with his job and the threats on his life, just pushed him over the edge! Poor Lexi! She loved so hard, just to keep getting pushed to the side by this man that she was ready to give her all to! She acted out, as she just needed to feel love and affection from someone, since she couldn't get it from Chad. Zay! I have always loved him from the first book, but he upped the ante big time right here! He is wise, kind, big heart and has such a gift of discernment that others have no choice but to break down and tell him everything! The time and effort that he spent with his brother was beautiful, as he knew that he was probably the only one that could help him! Now, this Jericho thing threw me man! What?? I was certain that he was up to some ish, but was glad that was not the case. But, Lexi girl you picked all these men that run in the same circles? That could have been disastrous! 🤦♀️ I was about to give up hope on these two, because it was looking bleak for a long minute! But, a Berotte man does not give up! With all the hell these two went through; they deserved a happy ending! Looking forward to DJ's story next. Take a bow ma'am! 👍👍👍
Chad and Alexis’s story was stressful if I can say so myself! They both did a lot 🤣. I love the way they ended up together in the end though of course. They were so much a like it was sickening lol.
I loved how Isaiah was instrumental in helping Chad get his mind together, cause his mind was GONE! The Berotte’s really ride for one another, & I LOVE IT! Let’s see what DJ is talking about…!
We were warned from the beginning that these two would drive us crazy, and no lies were told. I'm sure a lot of us had encountered a Chad at some point in life, and a few of us were probably Lexi. They both needed to go through what they did to be what the other needed. I'm glad things worked out. Can't wait to read the next book.
Chad & Lexi were getting on my nerves. I’m glad Chad got himself together. It was long overdue. I’m starting to get confused with all these new characters now. Lol
Each book reaffirms over and over how much I love ❤️ this family!! The Berotte’s are everything and I am enjoying living in their world!!! These characters are 🤩 entertaining, hilarious, nerve wrecking, frustrating, unpredictable and full of love!❤️. Chad was definitely bae all day and the seggs between he and Lexi was 💦🔥explosive 💣. Lexi know she got on my nerves and I felt like she was a little flousy🤦🏽♀️ but I was rooting for her and sympathizing with her feeling lonely. Another great Berotte story👍🏽👏🏽🙌🏽⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The author said that the back and forth was irritating and it really got on my d@mn nerves. Just move the hell on already. Seneca turned out to not be what I thought, well he is that, but he got some sense. Jericho got me side eyeing him. But Isaiah is still the man. Everybody needs a big brother like him and a play cousin like Shyron 😉☺️😇.
Both Chad and Lexi needed to heal and watching their process, although messy, was beautiful. Jericho, Jungle and Seneca can all kick rocks! They are too grown to be so messy and toxic. I can’t wait for DJs story though. I feel like there is a hater in Shavozz’s camp.
Chile..book 6 stressed me allll the way out. Chad had been a Berotte favorite of mine since the beginning. However after reading this book , I was ready to fight him. Monica always finds a way to humanize her characters and allow you to see yourself or people you may know . This is what make her such a great storyteller . Chad and Lexi’s journey to find themselves and each other is definitely emotionally charged ride . Such a great read!!
This was a lot when it came to Chad's up and down emotional rollercoaster. He had some things to work out. Hello therapy. And Lexi hung in there for the long haul. Another Berotte bites the dust. Last one left is the lawyer Shy.
Listen!!! Chad and Lexi drove me crazy and my heart cried for them. That’s all imma say because it’s a story you definitely need to read. Monica never disappoints and I’m waiting for the next installment to the series!!
Chad was the most laid back until Lexi put eyes on him and he fell hard but couldn't commit or wanted too at the time. She had to show him she was good either way lol and you know the rest. Great story to read and I'm loving this berotte family series.
Second chances are always scary. Or in this case MULTIPLES 🤣. These two had my nerves on edge the entire book. In the end Chad finally got himself together. I couldn’t be more prouder.
And the wild child has finally been tamed... This book takes us on the journey of Chad and Lexi with all the back and forth and hurt feelings... With lots of emotional trama... But it also showed us what love can do for a person... If they just crack the door and let it in... Chad was the wild one of the bunch... He was the one to make everyone laugh or make really angry... He was so free willing... Or was this all a front for something so much deeper than everyone thought... Chad has always been a little mean... Especially to his sister... He is single and with the way he shuts women down and has all these rules... He will never find what he is looking for... Lexi is sisters with Skyler... She is a smart beautiful young woman... When she came down to visit her sister she laid eyes on Chad and had been drawn to him since... But he kept shutting that down and putting up walls and obstacles... He made Lexi feel like she was nothing... So Lexi just stayed away from him and kept it pushing... Chad had a lot going on with the mess at his work and what his family has been dealing with... Then to find out that what his sister went through was because of him... This really kind of pushed him to keep Lexi at a distance... Lexi has been waiting for Chad to choose her for so long... But no matter what she did or said... He would always shut her down... But then one night he gave her hope ... But just as quickly with one phone call, all that went right out the window... Lexi was so over Chad but one day at a family dinner she decides to be petty... This kind of put Chad in his feelings and things with Lexi and the Berotte family changed... Lexi decides to just get her a roster of men and do her... But she has one main guy on her roster.. This is the man that she can always count on to make her feel really special and give her all the love that she craves from Chad... But once again here comes Chad and really shakes things up... Right after he just said he has to work on him and needs things to move slowly... Just for him to make things worse for them... Now Lexi has to deal with what he left behind and she feels so all alone... Her mom and sister are always with the Berotte family and no one checks on her... She is really in her feelings but she keeps it pushing... Chad has been dealing with his past demons and the drama that has been coming from work and trying to do right by Lexi... But he knows that this last time he really messed up... Just when he did not think things could get worse... This happens... But was it really a bad thing... Lexi decides to have that conversation with Chad in order to put it out on the table... And once again here goes Chad with the wrong words at the wrong time... This was enough for Lexi... She will deal with Chad only when she absolutely has to in the future... Chad decides to put in the work to become a better version of himself and prove to Lexi that he can be the man for her that she needs... But is it enough... Or is it to late... I guess you will have to read to find out... Well onto DJ who is one of the bonus Berotte kids now... Let's see where his story will take us...
To be honest, Chad hasn’t been my favourite Berotte in this series so I was kind of “meh” going into his book with Lexi. Indeed the premise of he sending mixed signals over wanting to be in a relationship with her and her acting out to get his attention and trigger him to act exasperated me and I wasn’t sure if I really cared if they got together or not as they both had significant maturity issues. What salvaged this for me is the theme of getting help and seeking counseling to deal with unhealthy behavior patterns. Much like in the previous book in the series (Love Me Senseless), realising a problem and seeking accessible support for mental health is a significant theme and I was happy Chad put aside his “hard guy” persona to accept the help and support his counsellor brother offered. Indeed if anything, I think Lexi could have benefitted from similar help because her ways of acting out from feeling rejected weren’t healthy either. I think she does go on somewhat of a healing journey, but you do get the sense it’s very much tied to the love and attention from the men in her life rather than the love and attention she has for herself.
I overall ended up more or less liking this. The terrorism angle kind of fizzled out in the end, but there is some resolution and we can now move on to Berotte family associates and friends, which I’m looking forward to. Beware if you’re the sort of romance reader sensitive to hookups with other people after a semblance of relationship has started between the MCs. This has it aplenty. Other than that, you probably won’t read this anyway if you’re not already a Berotte family fan (and if you were planning to, don’t! This series should be read in order to make the most sense), so you already know what it is and won’t need this warning. I really like the ensemble Berotte cast and can’t wait for more from their world.
Book 6 is out and this one took you on an emotional rollercoaster for sure. I am happy that Monica told us this would be a back and forth because I was like 🙄🙄🙄 with both Chad and Lexi.
Chad has long term emotions that he needed to heal from which was stopping him from seeing that Lexi no matter what her age was the woman to help him heal and be a better man. I don’t agree with him pushing her away because he was trying to save her, because it did more damage. I am happy that he has his family to be there for him and help him get to root of the problem. Chad reminded me of his father so much and how he needed to release the hurt of losing a loved one because they would want you to be miserable.
Lexi I felt for her because she loved a man who didn’t truly know how to love himself. I am glad she had that conversation with her mother about loving yourself because how she was moving was not making her situation with Chad any better. I am also glad to got closure with her dad, because she needed that. Being angry caused her to be selfish, no one kicked her out the family everyone loved her like she was truly a Berotte because that’s how they are. She did that herself because she was in her feelings, I was rolling my eyes at her for sure.
This was amazing series and I can not wait to see what happens next. I am glad that Chad and Lexi got their stuff together and got there HEA. Monica please give Shy a baby please 🤣🤣🤣🤣.
What a roller coaster 🎢 ride. It feels like I was watching tennis 🎾 match and I was waiting to see who will be served next LOL 😂!
All the Berottes suffered one way or the other regarding the unexpected passing of their mom, and they each dealt with their emotions differently, but Chad suppressed his emotions that it was just detrimental in his relationship with Lexi!
Chad had some internal demons and letting go of the past hindered his growth! He is one stubborn man, but the help of Zay and their father assisted him in seeing the light. Their dad even suffered in silence for twenty-five years and there were no counseling for his children. Their dad growth also stunted until Anissa came into the picture to heal his soul!
Lexi Lexi what can I say, but her emotions were heartfelt. It’s like a vicious cycle when all her rosters all know each other LOL! Lexi also alienated herself with the family, but I love me some Zay and he is such a warm fuzzy teddy bear! He was very instrumental in bringing Lexi back into the family fold and he worked some magic on Chad! Way to go big bro!
It was an uphill battle for most of the book, but Chad and Lexi finally got it together.
Goodness we.get the full Monty on letting go and opening yourself up to love. The writer gives us Chad a fun loving, protective brother and a good friend to hang out with and party. In comes Lexi with all her fresh excitement and love sparkling in her eyes. This was couple was just right for one another, there problem that can't seem to get out of there own way. The writer gives us a very somewhat complex man who doesn't know its okay to let go and let love take over. This was good and well thought out, there are times when you can feel the pain and the wanting in both characters. The dynamics of the family is just crazy good and you live it. There were at times that I thought that both Chad and Lexi both were acting a little childish. But the writer handles it so so very well. Overall we get another amazing story involving a member of a terrific family and we get to celebrate love. So looking forward to the next edition, I thunk this family still has a lot to say.
Wtf...Chad and Lexi were both toxic and utterly broken from past traumas only to find each other and fight in their own way to get back to each other. The drama they presented and the family dynamics were proof positive that love does concur all and heals all wounds. Watching the family endure these two hard headed and hard hearted people go through the crap they have is exhausting and yet thrilling to watch unfold. The chemistry in this family is fire on another level. The love, acceptance and support given is to truly be admired and respected. I never thought these 2 would bring a baby into the world, let alone get their acts together enough to come together. Both were hot heads and stuck on personal pain and misconception of what love actually is. The conclusion of their story was beautiful and uplifting, not to mention inspiring. Therapy for such a toxic love was stressing and yet enlightening to see the results unfold through commission and dedication to see it through.
This was the story leading up to the big crescendo, the book to end the series. I felt like it fell flat and was missing more. The story line for this character ran over the entire series of the core Berotte family. For it to run as long I thought it would be more exciting, adventurous. Instead it was sad and depressing with 2 emotionally confused characters. They eventually came together and got it right, but that was at the end. Maybe I expected to much from one of my favorite authors.
While, disappointed. I’ll still read whatever’s next.
P.S. I also find it disappointing that you would leave a message telling your readers, when to and not to leave a review. It’s a bit manipulative. People want to express themselves after they connect to or not connect with an authors work. You should be receptive to that, good, bad, or indifferent. It’s a par for the course.
This was by far the most EXHAUSTING installment of this series. Whew…the inconsistency…the lack of communication…it started to get a bit overwhelming. I don’t think I liked Lexi’s character because I really felt that she was just too damn immature —at least until the last 20-30% of the book. Granted Chad played with her feelings, but honey. I wasn’t understanding the sudden “ho phase” because a man you’d only slept with once rejected you. I mean yeah they were familiar due to family dynamics, but I guess we didn’t see much of their interactions before the sex to make their connection believable enough for me.
Now Chad. Chile…he really needed therapy. I’m glad he got the help he needed. I did think he was a bit selfish—especially after that second link with Lexi. Like sir…you just don’t do that. All the interconnections between the other potential love interests was…well amusing.
This is the latest installment in the Berotte family saga and this one focuses on Chad and Lexi. The author did a great job on depicting how it can take come couples a LONG time to get it together. Chad had some major abandonment issues because he lost his mom at a young age. He would reel Lexi in, but as soon as they got emotionally close, he'd push her away. After awhile I thought Lexi should call it a day and find love elsewhere. But I was proud of Chad for doing the work to change and to push himself to become more emotionally mature and I was amazed that Lexi was still willing to give their love a chance. The author did a good job depicting Chad's mental health challenges and depicting how broken hearted Lexi was. I thought some things were unrealistic, like having his brother serve as his therapist: there is no mental health credentialing organization that is going to support that arrangement. Great read!
