Jake and Scarlett revisit their relationship 1 year later. There are trust issues, danger, and suspense, but the love is still there. Ends in a cliffhanger.

Suspense and romance in a well-written exciting book by a new author for me. Good structure, outspoken characters. Fast paced, accessible written. Journalist Scarlett warns racer Jake about a story to be published. Why? Could it be because they had a night of passion a year ago? Jake doesn’t recognize her and asks her if she wants to go to his parent’s home for more insight into his family before the story appears. Against her better judgment, Scarlett goes on a visit that she will not easily forget. There turns out to be quite a few mysteries in the scary parental mansion. Also, not everything is as it seems
Will definitely read more by this author.

I really enjoyed Endgame and not so secretly hoped the series would continue. So I was so excited to get not only a second book, but a third is also on the way. I continue to love Scarlett and Jake. They've spent the last year working on themselves. Scarlett is still not sure if giving Jake a chance would be in her best interest, but she cannot deny the draw she feels to him. Dating someone in the spotlight comes with its own complications, but a greater threat may be at play that could tear them apart. I enjoyed seeing Scarlett and Jake navigate their differences and past traumas to try to make things work. And that cliffie was so epic. I am counting down the days to book three.

Jake and Scarlett kept me glued to this story. They reconnect a year after he turns evidence that places his mother and sister in prison, but their enemies are still out for blood and comes for Jake. This riveting story kept me glued to the drama and on the edge of my seat!

Can they come together after their past? Get past the pain and be able to trust each other? They really had to put in the effort, open up and deal the issues. Short yet good read.

Over a year after the last book in the series, I finally got an ARC for Backspin, and got to read more about Scarlett and Jake. It’s been about a year for them too, so I guess that’s fair. What’s not fair? It ends with a cliffhanger.

I hate cliffhangers, but I love this book. I do have another complaint though. I read so many books that when there’s a large gap in a series like this, it’s hard for me to remember details from previous books. There were a few things that helped me to remember Jake’s mother and sister and what they did to his father, but I could have used more details about what they did with Scarlett because I only remember it in broad strokes. This would be helpful for a new reader too—making it easier for someone to just jump into the series with this book and have a good idea of what happens.

This one is told from the POVs of Scarlett and Jake this time. How do two people so damaged by trauma manage to overcome all of their internal challenges and find happiness together? Well, don’t look for a happy ending here. Because there is no ending.

However, we are given a clue when Scarlett talks to her mom, who gives sage advice: “Love is the core of who we are… It’s the only thing that’s true. Everything else is just an expression of pain.” She goes on, “I believe our true nature when we come into this world is love. Anything else that happens from there...our conditioning, our upbringing, our environment…shapes who we are. And when some of those things are from trauma it affects how we act… Reactions can be an expression of unresolved pain.” And Scarlett is bright enough to understand that you can understand someone’s actions and love them for who they are underneath that, but you mustn’t step over the fine line by making excuses for them.

Wow What a Gripper

This is book two of what I’m assuming will be three, according to the the end of this book. I personally cannot wait for book three to get out. I liked the first book, but this second book is a lot better. The writing is great, the storyline will have you hooked, and the best part: it is told in both Scarlett and Jake’s views! We finally get to see Jake’s feelings and thoughts! I also loved that we get to see the darker thoughts of Preston in his own chapter.

I love that Jake has finally come to terms with his demons and is seeking help, and that he is ready to be all in with Scarlett. I also love that nothing will stop him from winning her back, but still respects her wishes and tries not to cross any lines. I love that Scarlett is also seeking help to fight her demons and that she finally found her passion. I was aggravated at her for still holding back with Jake, even though I know her reasoning, but was able to come to realize her true feelings for him.

I cannot wait to read the next book and see how this story ends. I was on the edge of my seat with the suspense and chemistry! I hope that Farrah and Preston gets their own books as well!

Scarlett and Jake’s story remain suspended a little on the end of Endgame, and I waited impatiently for the second book, to see the developing of their relationship.
But things won’t go smoothe between them, at all.
They have real feelings for each other, and their chemistry is over the chart.
But they also much alike, with their comittment issues, fueled by their past.
And this take a lot from their story.
And other external forces make a good job to pull them apart.
And I have to wait, again, for their story to unravel, but I love it, none the less.

I have mixt feeling for the cliffhanger - I’m sad, becouse I really thought that this will be the conclusion of their story, but Ikm glad to read more about them.
But please Susan, hurry with it!

I received an ARC copy and I left my honest review.

So thrilled to see this couple again! They needed more to their story and WOW did the author do it so well! Scarlett and Jake are meant to be together but first they need to get past some stuff, including the something from their past. There's suspense, mystery, good friends (want more of them!), and food. This is a definite must read but read the first book before you do, you won't be disappointed....even with a cliffhanger.

This was a quick but well written novella that answered all the lingering questions left over from Endgame. It was great to see this couple again, but does the past finally catch up with them and tear them apart once and for all?
Make sure you dive in to find out but watch those flying bullets.

This is a well written book with strong characters in Scarlett and Jake. Their relationship is still troubled with a lack of trust, even after a year. The author pulls you in with the mystery and suspense as well as the romance. It's an intriguing story with a cliffhanger ending.

A very entertaining story that was complex and beautifully crafted to enhance the drama surrounding the characters. I love this world and this book was a great addition to the series. I was entertained by their believable chemistry and found myself rooting for them as the story progressed.

The story continues

Scarlett and Jake are still working to figure out their relationship. She is trying to decide if she wants to give him another chance. They both have to work to get through their issues from the past. Of course this ends in a cliffhanger and I'm needing the next book now.

I did enjoy book one, which this book continues off of. I think it's better to read the first one to really understand the 2nd. Lots of suspense elements but I think the main characters back and forth just made me not enjoy it as much. 3.5 stars
