I recently completed a college anthropology course on Vikings and The Norse People, so I got a very in depth and detailed education in this culture. This book so wonderfully sums up the majority of that 4 month class in one easy to read book. The information is accurate to the best of our current knowledge, and the way it is broken down makes it incredibly easy to read.
I really appreciate how authentic this book is, and how they don’t shy away from things that might not be as accepted today.
If you are looking for an informative and accurate book to learn about Norse People you can trust this one to be just right!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This was an interesting book and I enjoyed reading it. I thought I might struggle through it because of the book content but found I was fascinated by the subject.
The author explained things well and I came away with a better understanding of the subject.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. It's a great starting point to understanding Norse Paganism. It was fascinating how adaptable Norse Paganism was while maintaining its core. I also liked how similar old and new practices are and how it worked its way into modern culture.
Even for someone who's been practicing for some time now, this was a very nice overview of things and even gave me some new things to look into! Do wish it went just a little more in depth on certain topics though.
While I wish there was more to this book , I understand why there isn't. The book was a good eye opener and answered some questions I had so I'm grateful for that.
I received a copy of Norse Paganism for Beginners by History Brought Alive from BookSirens. I have now had the opportunity and pleasure of reading several of History Brought Alive's books on various topics. This one, Norse Paganism for Beginners is my favorite. This book does a great job of providing historical context as well as addressing the issues that come along when a cultural tradition is mostly oral and not written down. History Brought Alive does great research and provides accurate and authentic information for the reader that allows one to dip their toes into a topic and get a taste for it without information overload. For someone who has a passing interest in a topic, books like this are perfect. If you are like me, a lover of history and hungry for as much information as possible, these books are also a great place to start. The section on references at the end makes finding more information easy for the reader. I just love these little bite-size chunks of history and you will too!
The narration was okay with some more obvious pronunciation issues (but it was close enough). The topic itself is a very quick summary of a Norse culture (circa 10th to 12th centuries). For the most part, I would have been happier with a little more as some of the brief treatments might lead to a few minor misunderstandings and some would just be more interesting IMHO if etymology were included … such as what exactly the names of each of the nine realms actually mean.
Additionally there are a few careless comments that imply Easter was synchronized from a Norse holiday instead of the other way around (based solely upon the “bunny” avatar). No serious scholar that I know of would make that connection (although it is pretty common on social media). There are some comparisons between Egyptian myths and Norse myths that are a bit of a stretch with no real support other than similarities (which would be expected for any cultures in contact with each other), so fun to think about but not really accepted by any consensus. All that said … this was a pretty fair introduction to the topic and I would recommend it.
I was given this free advance review copy (ARC) ebook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
