Origin The Beginning is Book 1 in the Origin Trilogy
There is a Doctor Who / Star Trek vibe, which I love. The book begins with the emphasis on Henrik’s, the main character, simplicity of living, where he enjoys his life and marriage. The mystery begins when returning to work and finding an odd cube on his desk, and the adventure begins…an exciting adventure to another galaxy to reclaim Henrik’s right of heir from an ominous corporation while Henrik undergoes a journey of proving himself capable as a leader. Mysteries, involving the both galaxies and time, speckle the adventure, starship battles and more, giving the reader intriguing morsels of foreshadowing about what is to come. The writing is abundantly descriptive, whether about a city, ship, or giving a back story; very ideal for readers who like a lot of details (giving an almost Blade Runner type of opening, where the background is explained to kickstart the story, with a bit of a Michael Crichton ‘Sphere’ - type storytelling). There does appear to be an easy acceptance of the situation by the characters. The dialogue between those in relationships are filled with terms of endearment and courtesies. There are some minor grammar points, but most tend to be in the dialogue, so they can be written off as such, so readability is still smooth (I was able to read the book in two settings) The overall editing appears strong. The actions scenes are fun, but not gruesome. Little offensive language, no sexually explicit scenes, making this book suitable to a wide spectrum of readers. That, along with a fun story is the reason I give this book five stars. I look forward to reading book 2
Origin Andromeda" is like if Doctor Who, Star Trek, and Battlestar Galactica had a wild space baby! From suburban normalcy to galaxy-sized chaos, our guy Henrik gets the shock of his life when he finds out he's not exactly from around here. The author throws in a mix of quirky humour (some of it even a bit cheeky) with techy tidbits that are both innovative and believable. Seriously, there's this awesome bit where Henrik learns that spaceships are pretty much smarter than us when it comes to battle – it's classic! If you’re into space adventures, technology, and a sprinkle of blockchain references, this debut novel is your ticket to the stars. And the good news? There's a sequel in the making. The book describes EVERYTHING in detail, but there is little substance to the story. This is like an E.E. DOC, Smith story of the 1930's, but lacks style. I skipped quite a few paragraphs simply because they added nothing to the story. This is more of soap opera type story, that just happens to have advanced science in it. There is no real action, or suspense, or intrigue to keep you reading. I finished it in 5 hours, just to see how it ended. I have no desire to read anymore from this seris.
The story is quite fascinating. The author’s descriptive way of presenting his story is so effective that I actually can imagine it. I like the plot and the adventure taken by the main character. Great read!
I found this thrilling adventure in space hard to put down, once I started reading. It had everything- from well rounded characters to heart-stopping action. Perfect for fans of SG-1.
The beginning of the story is quite intriguing. Henrik is a regular guy who lives his best life, enjoying relationship with his wife. Little does he know that his cozy life is about to be over. One day Henrik finds out that he is the heir of the Andromeda galaxy, and everything changes…
What I liked about this story is the author’s work on technical details. As the plot is unfolding in the spaceship and includes travelling to a different, more advanced world, Henrik learns a lot about new technologies. This includes spaceship engine capacity, weapons, and even robots who had developed to the point they started acquiring human rights.
Even though the world-building is impressive, I found the plot too plain with lack of twists and character development. The author gives too much detail in the places where it could be an intrigue. For example, when Henrick disappears in the first chapters and gets to the spaceship, the enemies get to his wife and keep her hostage. However, this moment was resolved really fast with minimum trouble for the main characters. Further in the story, the author keeps creating an image of the flawless character who resolves all the matters in a finger click, and it makes the plot very monotonous.
As for the writing style, I found third-person present tense unusual for my taste but with reading I got used to it. I would recommend this read for people who like calm, cozy stories rich with Sci-Fi elements.
‘Andromeda: The Beginning’, starts with the revelation that a simple salaryman just happens to be royalty from another galaxy who fled to Earth as a child after his father and allies were overthrown by a group of villains (with the help of aliens) i.e. a bit like Superman, but without the special powers. After an initial encounter with ‘green coats’ out hero escapes – rather easily – and jumps aboard a spaceship with his friend/cousin (who will help him recover his memories). We then follow the hero and his wife (whose saccharine relationship frankly made me gag at times) through various adventures as they make their way to Andromeda to face down the villains in various trials, and… well, you guess the rest.
The story is written largely in simple present tense – which to be honest isn’t my favourite. It is also full of lots of small errors in formatting and punctuation (and lots of exclamation marks, especially in chapter titles!). Further, the writing is rather immature: pedestrian, lacking brio, with shallow characters, simple language, and wooden dialogue. In terms of plotting, the action is also somewhat lacklustre and rather predictable. Still, as a comfort blanket to readers, there are lots of familiar sci-fi tropes, while everyone appears to speak English, which is handy.
There are more books to follow in this series, but I won’t be reading them (although judging by some of the reviews I’ve seen, there are plenty of others out there who do like this stuff - aliens from the Triangulum galaxy, perhaps?).
The novel uses the present tense and has many dialogue sequences to increase the pacing. Within each chapter, an action sequence contributes to its being an action-adventure. Care was taken in naming characters, and the world created was imaginative.
The reason for 4 stars is that more attention could have been given to the development of the world and the antagonist. The 3 settings appear to be Earth, the starship the protagonist used from Earth, and the protagonist's home world. I guess the protagonist resided in Europe - but that was not stated, only that the antagonist in that scene was a European agency. In the starship, I'm not certain how the protagonist knew how to exit rooms - he was given instructions on how to enter his cabin. Artificial life mentioned in the novel has reached near human capacity and appearance, but combat droids are grossly ineffective when fighting humans. Throughout the novel, there are several antagonists, but their relationship to the main one is not identified.
Nonetheless, the world is imaginative and the novel is exciting and was a pretty good read.
Henrik finds out that he is not from this world or even this galaxy. He is told that he is from Zuood. Christoffer V. Junros does a good job articulating the nuances of the Zuoodi language. The way he describes the capital city Kionidoo makes me want to go there. Henrik’s friend Bjorn points out where he was born and who he actually is, the Heir to Andromeda. Junros weaves a fascinating story that has you clinging to every word. I was captivated and couldn’t put it down. The scientific ideas are extremely interesting. I really like the idea of how they travel through space and the speed of travel. I found it to be innovative.
The character development by Junros is excellent. I felt like I knew the characters and understood their personality.
The plot of the book and the speed of delivery were both impeccable.
I found this book to be fascinating and intriguing at the same time. I look forward to the next book. I am hooked. I recommend this book to anyone.
There's nothing like beginning the day thinking both you and your world are one way and definition, only to find out that you're wrong... you're VERY wrong!
I so much wanted to dive off the edge of the cliff and soar with this story. But it's the author's job to provide wings, current, propulsion, anti-gravity fields, a red cape, the Force... basically whatever name you wish to give to the inspiration needed to depart reason and the world the reader knows to immerse themselves in the world the writer is presenting.
The story does not lack imagination... it lacks cohesion and packaging. Third person, present tense (especially when it's not maintained) makes for very choppy storytelling. The reader is spending time and energy getting through the words rather than being transported by them.

IMAGINATION AT WORK First off, I’m not going to remove any stars just because the author’s first language isn't English. I don’t know if this is a translation or not, but nevertheless I can overlook a few deviations in grammar and punctuation. I was very impressed with the author’s imagination and I loved the story from the beginning with the revelation that the protagonist is from a different galaxy in the universe. This is a very descriptive and satisfying intergalactic adventure. With the fate of the galaxy in the hands of our unassuming hero Henrik, who must overcome formidable odds to save the day, this book has some unexpected twists that kept me reading. I loved the endearing, somewhat gushy and sentimental relationship between Henrik and Joanna. A book like this can easily pull me over into being a fan of this genre.
Right from the beginning of the story, this book gave me a great feeling of nostalgia for classic adventure and space opera stories. The abrupt ending of one life and the beginning of another gave the story immediate momentum that never really stopped. The writing style made the book both original and styled in a way that brought on feelings of many other great classic novels, movies, and shows. I picked up the ebook and audiobook and I found that the audio narration, which was very well done, made the atmosphere even more immersive. It was interesting to listen as the protagonist learned about technology and space travel as the author worked to keep things both familiar with sci-fi tropes yet reasonably realistic to physics. This was a very entertaining story and I recommend both the book and audiobook to anyone.
I truly wish I could give this book more than three stars, as the plot is creative, but the novel is plagued with editing issues that make it difficult to read (and even understand, in some places). I’m not sure if these problems are because of the translation, but regardless, the book needs an editor to clean up a lot of the grammatical, spelling, punctuation, and tense errors. I appreciate the world that Junros has created, and the premise is interesting, but I couldn’t properly invest in the characters or the plot as much as I had hoped I would. Still, the book is humorous and adventurous, and it is definitely worth a read. Readers who love deep world-building, humor, and descriptive storytelling will likely enjoy this book.
Clunky writing and too many infodumps…. Needs a major edit by an English-speaking native
The writing style - third person, present tense, with huge amounts of description and background information, telling instead of showing, and trying to do too much at once - made it really hard for me to get into this book. Plus a lot of dialog with “My Dear…”
I felt like the author spent most of his energy on world-building instead of character development. The author never made me care about the characters. The dialog felt wooden and unrealistic. The style seemed to jump around a lot… I was never quite sure what I was reading. The Matrix? Galaxy Quest? 1920’s noir detective story?
Too much of a mash-up for me to follow and care. However, I seem to be in the minority.
Origin Andromeda by Christoffer Vuolo Junros is chock full of all the typical sci-fi tropes and does it well. Though the tropes are very familiar and often considered cliche, Christoffer offers enough originality in how they're used to keep the reader turning pages. If you're a fan of traditional/classic sci-fi, this book is a must-read. I'll be checking out the rest of the series.
After passing a bit boring beginning, a story started developing rapidly and presented an interesting and even unique plot. Henrik’s character is interesting and his transformation is fascinating. Unfortunately the narrative was hard to follow. The present tense and choppy language are taking away from otherwise solid story.
I was really captivated by Joanna, I just love a strong female lead and she was a great example of one.
This story was a fun and thrilling read, the character development was excellent and even though this is out of my normal genre I found the language and the concepts written simply enough for me to keep up with.
Fascinating world-building and technological detail. Although the dialogue is a bit stilted, this imaginative tale of personal self-discovery catapults the reader on a dramatic journey to the Andromeda Galaxy. "Origin Andromeda" follows Henrik Harlacker's life as he discovers his shocking galactic heritage. The Swedish author, Christoffer Vuolo Junros, contrasts the vastness of space with the complexity of individual struggle, giving an intriguing twist to Henrik's voyage from ordinary individual to a galactic leader. Drawing on his own experience as an engineer, Junros weaves in captivating technological insights wrapped in mind-boggling names, such as Zettaflops and the ZePad or Zetta Paradox Detector, to a tale of dramatic intergalactic conflict accompanied by delightful injections of humor. This is the debut novel and the author has promised more. Will be interesting to see where this series takes us. Can’t wait!
I really enjoyed this book! It’s a sci-fi novel that feels like a blend of Star Wars and Star Trek, featuring an evil galactic empire, rebels, and epic space battles, you know, all the good stuff. The pacing is engaging and story-driven, and the writing is direct and vivid. Highly recommend for sci-fi fans!
A classic space epic, an exiled heir reclaims his birth right. The third person present tense was hard to get used to. The main character is likeable. The story flows well at a fast pace. Would like to see more character details. Fun read.
A fantastic beginning for a series. I didn't expect the high level of humor, but the action is absolutely riveting. I look forward to the next passage of this sci-fi adventure now that I know the caliber of writing this author has. Great story.
If you are into sci-fi worldbuilding with a twist, this book is for you. A great start to a series. The only downside (for me, personally) is that the book is written in present tense. I'm not a fan but I'm sure plenty of readers will love the approach.
