This is my first by the author. A great start to a gang crime series – very fast paced and engrossing.

Tracey is waiting for her husband of many years Terry to return home with his friend and business partner Kenny. They arrive late, after greeting family and friends, Terry is just about to cut the cake. A shot rings out and Tracey, her sons Ricky and Jamie are shocked to find that Terry is dead. Tracey is determined to get to the bottom of who killed him. As she digs deeper, she finds that Terry, Kenny and the dangerous Murphy family are mixed with many murky dealings which shock her.

The book is a page-turner and I sailed through it very smoothly. The pace was excellent and while the character development was decent – it could have been better. The plot did not hold too many surprises.

Looking forward to reading more of the author’s books, and also the next in the series.

Thanks to Netgalley, Boldwood Books and the author for a free electronic review copy.

My rating: 4.25 / 5.

Tracey Tempest is married to Terry, and they have two grown up sons Ricky and Jamie. She loves her husband very much and she decides to throw him a surprise 50th birthday party. While she is waiting for Terry’s business partner Kenny Kempton to bring Terry home. She at first must deal with his mother, who she has never got on with. While everyone is having a good time and it is time to cut the cake. Terry is shot dead but there is no evidence to say who shot him.
Terry’s two sons are out for revenge and even Tracey gets involved to find out who killed her husband. But as they investigate, they find out things about Terry is not the person they thought he was. They thought he was a debt collector with dealing with some dodgy goods but, they discover that it is more than that and he has been dealing with sex and trafficking.
Thank you, Boldwood Books for a copy of Betrayal by Kerry Kaya. She has written, another fabulous read with Betrayal the first book in ‘The Tempests series.’ It is a powerful start to the series which all you can want in a gritty gangland thriller. This book has great premise and well-developed characters, and I couldn’t put it down. I’m so excited to see how this story develops. Roll on Book 2. I can’t wait. 5 stars from me.

Kerry Kaya does it again, a brand new family, brand new series and a fantastic full on gangland tale full of drama, big characters, gritty stories and real life storytelling
As always the author does not shy away from any subject and this time we find ourselves in the midst of some nasty people trafficking and a family (The Tempests ) reeling when they find out unwittingly they are part of this sordid business
We also meet The Murphy’s,you couldn’t wish for a set of folk to love to hate more than these,Bianca will make your blood boil and Kevin, well even through the pages you feel his evil and menace
This author goes from strength to strength and her books are now amongst my favourites,I really really look forward to the other books in this series
A brilliant read

The Tempests Book 1

Tracey Tempest adores her husband, Terry. But when on his fiftieth birthday, tragedy strikes, Tracey must face the terrifying prospect of a future without him. Desperate for answers and boiling with rage, Tracey wants revenge....

Set in Dagenham, London: We meet a new gangland family - Terry Tempest, the husband and father. Tracey, the wife and mother. And their two sons Ricky and Jamie. We also meet Kenny Kempton, Terry's business partner. Terry's mother, the cantankerous Patricia.

I was hooked from the very first page and I could not put the book down again. The characters are well rounded. I liked some of the characters and loathed others. I did like Tracey, she's one feisty woman who will stop at nothing to find out who had killed her husband. The pace is fast throughout. This is a great start to a new series even though some of the loose ends weren't tied up. Hopefully they will be resolved in the next book.

I would like to thank #Netgalley #BoldwoodBooks and the author #KerryKaya for my ARC of #Betrayal in exchange for an honest review.

While the plot promised much I was waiting for more action and less wringing of hands.
The constant dialogue, second guessing and possibilities between all characters I found tiresome in the end and for me added very little to any drama. This was disappointing as the plot had vast ability to be more dynamic.

I have been a fan of Kerry's work for a while now. I have read and loved several of her books and I know I still have some to catch up on. Hopefully I will have managed to do that before too much longer. I read the synopsis of 'Betrayal' and it certainly sounded like the sort of gritty, gripping and fast paced story I have come to expect from Kerry Kaya. Well this book was certainly all that and so much more. I thoroughly enjoyed reading 'Betrayal' but more about that in a bit.

'Betrayal' is the first in the series featuring the 'Tempest family', who really can be as scary as their name suggests. What an opening to a new series. I started reading the first page and before I got to the bottom of that page, I knew that this was one book that was going to be nigh on impossible to put to one side for any length of time. The characters intrigued me and I had my own suspicions as to what was going to happen to them. So of course I had to keep reading to see if I was on the right track or if I had wandered off in the opposite direction. I would pick the book up only intending to read a chapter or two but I would become so wrapped up in the story and in the lives of the characters that I would still be sat there reading several chapters and an hour later. All too quickly I got to the end of 'Betrayal' and I said a relieved goodbye to the characters. I found 'Betrayal' to be a gritty, gripping and dramatic read, which certainly kept me guessing and which kept me on the edge of my seat throughout.

'Betrayal' is superbly written but then I have come to expect nothing less from Kerry Kaya. She certainly knows how to grab the reader's attention and draw them into what proves to be one hell of a story. For me, the story started with a bang, hit the ground running and maintained a fast pace throughout. I love the very vivid and realistic way in she describes her characters - she describes them so well that they seem just as real as you and I and they scare the doo doo out of me. Reading 'Betrayal' felt like being on one hell of a scary and unpredictable rollercoaster ride with several twists and turns along the way. I love the way in which Kerry makes the reader feel as though they are part of the story themselves and at the heart of the action.

In short, I thoroughly enjoyed reading 'Betrayal' and I would definitely recommend this book to other readers. I will certainly be reading more of Kerry's work in the future. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 5* out of 5*.

I thought this was a really, really great read and a fab start to a new series. I started it yesterday evening and I just couldn’t put this read down - I’ve read it in less than a day. It was one of those reads I just devoured, the writing, plot line and characters immediately grabbed my attention and held it all the way through. Kerry Kaya certainly knows how to connect with her readers through her writing. I feel like her characters just became alive and jumped out of the pages and story and were so vivid and real in my mind. As always, there is a wide range of characters, some I really liked and rooted for and others I hated and couldn’t wait for them to get their come uppance. Tracey Tempest, as the main character was likeable, feisty, determined and realistically portrayed and will stop at nothing to find out who was responsible for her husbands murder. The book had everything I love - wonderful writing, an all to believable and realistic plot line, characters you just take to heart and really like and I found the more I read the more I enjoyed this book. I read over half of this book last night and I don’t do that very often, with this one I genuinely could not put it down! The story raced to a thrilling conclusion, with most loose ends tied up and the ones that weren’t I hope will be addressed in the next book. A wonderful start to a new series and I definitely will want to read the next book. This book was an absolute pleasure and joy to read and I can’t recommend it highly enough if you are a fan of gangland crime books.

I’m going to start this review by confessing that I’ve not read any books by this author before, yes I know shame on me ! Well I most certainly will be rectifying that now after finishing Betrayal. This is the first in a brand new gangland crime series by Kerry Kaya. This author is definitely on a par with the likes of Martina Cole , Kimberley Chambers etc. This was a fantastic start to a new series and only after a few pages in I was completely captivated and engrossed in the story. A superbly written story with good strong characters which I know will develop as the series progresses.

This is the first book in a brand new series by this talented lady, it starts with the fatal shooting of local hard man Terry Tempest. Terry’s wife and sons will stop at nothing to find out why the murder happened and who did it giving the reader a fantastic look into the world of sex trafficking and deception from the very people they trust. I’ve already got book 2 ready to read.

This is my first Karry Kaya book and it has disappointed me. It has no element of surprise or thrill. Tracey is, undoubtedly, a very stupid wife to not know what her husband is and how he is making his fortune. She keeps indulging and is equally responsible in his deeds and so are her children.

What a brilliant start to a new series by this author. I have read a few of her books and she doesn't hold back when she writes her gang-style stories.

Tracey Tempest has a bit of an eye-opener when she discovers exactly how her husband has made his money. Even though his sons, Ricky and Jamie are part of the family business there is a lot they don't know about either. While they are coming to terms with the death of Terry, their husband and father, the family also discover some really shocking news. It isn't the boys who are out for the truth, in fact, it is their Mum, Tracey. She has really got the bit between her teeth and she has no care about who she confronts. Ignorance is bliss for her, and allowances are made.

From the outset I really took to Tracey, she is the stay-at-home wife and Mum, always looking out for the men in her life. She has a nice house, and a great lifestyle and then suddenly the rose-tinted glasses are destroyed. I have a feeling the author really had fun with the character and it was great to see Tracey become the force I have a feeling she was always meant to be. I will admit that she did come across as naive, but no more so than her sons.

Having a character like Tracey was great, as she doesn't know any of " the baddies" she has no fear about asking hard questions, this played out well when she discovers an ally. Believe me when I say she will need an extra set of muscles for this story and it is the start of what I hope will be a business arrangement, or maybe more!

This is hard-core as far as some of the storylines are concerned. There are aspects of gang land crime that you expect to see in this style of story, and the author definitely includes some of them. I am not going to mention what they are, but I will say that there are some very unsavoury characters that have no consideration for others.

The main storyline for this book was great, combing grief with unearthing some awful truths was a great way to bring a close family even closer together. I am really looking forward to seeing where the author takes this series. I am sure there will be more shocks and secrets to be unearthed.

This is one for those who like their crime thrillers on the hard-boiled side, with a strong gang-related thread and what better way to read a book by this author than with the start of a new series. This is a cracker and one I would definitely recommend.

Tracy Tempest was so happy she was throwing a surprise party for her husband of 30 years Terry Tempest their adult children Jamie and Ricky hope to have a marriage as loving as their parents but when a gunshot interrupted the party and ended Terry’s life she was beside herself with grief and after going through their financial papers she kept saying the name of a car dealer ship owner named Maxwell Hardcastle it went on for a few months but ended abruptly and she was convinced this is why he was murdered. She even goes to his car dealership after Terry‘s business partner and best friend Kenny told her he was dangerous in “yes, he probably was the one who did it!“ her boys were so worried about their mother. They understood she was grieving but it seems she is losing her mind and when they find out she went to visit Max at the car dealership they finally convince her that he was a friend to their father and would’ve never had him murdered. lots of people looked up the Terry, although he dealt in the shady your side of business he still had lots of allies and people who wanted to find his killer. It’s too bad his business partner it supposed best friend Kenny didn’t seem to be on board with that. When Max comes back to town where he Kenny and Terry grew up he find out that Terry and Kenny were working with the Murphy’s the white trash of the estate but when he finds out the kind of business deal they had he is blown away. This is how Tracy‘s biggest suspect turns into her biggest ally and helps her and the boys find out the truth. I love this authors books and she did not disappoint with this one. When I first started reading it and realize the nature of the plot I was disappointed, but not for long Carry Kya such a great writer and want to get into one of her books it’s hard to stop reading it. I highly recommend this book if you like a thrilling ride with twist you need to read Betrayal it’s so intense in such a great book! I received this book from NetGalley and the publisher but I am leaving this review voluntarily please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.

A new series is always a combination of two things : saying goodbye to the previous characters and saying hello to a new family. So I, for one, was very curious what the author was going to treat me to, because the books I have read by her hand, were gems, each and everyone of them.

Let’s meet the Tempests. 😊

There is dad Terry, a ‘businessman. If you are a fan of gangland crime, you probably already have a feeling what kind of business he could be involved in. He is married to Tracey who adores him and together they have two sons Ricky and Jaimie, who work with their father.

When a member of your family dies, it’s a tragedy, but when a loved one is murdered in cold blood during his birthday party, it’s even harder. Why did he have to die? Who is responsible?

Tracey wants to know who the culprit is and with the help of her sons she is out for revenge.

The question rises again: how well do you know someone?

A lot of people are able to hide behind a smoke screen and nobody even realises it. Digging in someone’s history can make you love them even more or despise them from the bottom of your heart.

It’s hight time to put an end to one era and start creating a new one.

It’s hard to say you like characters in a gangland crime story, because they are often not very kind, but sometimes a few of them have a heart of gold underneath that cold exterior. They are ruthless when they defend what is theirs, whether it’s family or possessions, but some of them admit there are boundaries that have to be respected.

So yes, I like the ones with that soft heart and the iron armour. 😊

A great first book of this new series. I enjoyed it a lot. 5 stars

Thank you

Betrayal is Kerry Kaya's brand new gangland thriller. The beginning of a new series as well! To say I was excited to read this book is an understatement. I have read every book she has written from the beginning of her published career. I haven't found a bad book and don't expect too either.

This book introduces the Tempest family. Tracey is Terry Tempest's adoring wife, she would give anything for him. Together since they were kids, when he is killed at his fiftieth birthday party she is bereft, but boy! Does she want revenge! People are going to discover she won't go quietly.

Set in Dagenham in London we are back in Kerry Kaya's gangland world. A new family who are colourful, larger than life and about to discover you shouldn't trust anyone. I really was addicted from the very first page. Kerry Kaya's writing always has this effect on me. She has the knack of making you feel like you are part of the book. It's an immersive experience, and Betrayal is exactly that.

I always think the book I am reading at the time is the best book Kerry Kaya has written and then the next book is released. That's where I am now. Betrayal is again a well written gangland story. The characters are three dimensional and easy to get to grips with. I was on the same lines as Tracey, she is a woman with some grit herself. No one expects the reaction they get from her and that's such a great base for this story.
There are the characters that are hateful too and boy I was hoping they got their comeuppance at some point.

A fast-paced, gritty and oh, so addictive beginning to the Tempest family story. I am so impatient for book number two now. I do hope its not too far into the future before it's released!
Thanks to Rachel's Random Resources and Boldwood Books for my copy of the book.

📚📖 BOOK REVIEW 📖📚

📖 Book - Betrayal
✍️ Author - Kerry Kaya
📕 Publisher - Boldwood Books. Welcome to the introduction of the Tempest Family. The first book in which I hope will be another series from Kerry Kaya! Tracey has organised a party for her husbands birthday. They were childhood sweethearts and they lived a good life with their 2 sons. When Terry suddenly is out of the picture…. Tracey discovers that her husband is not what he seemed. Maybe she didn’t know him as much as she thought she did. Really like this book. Definitely kept me more gripped, the further into the book I went. I am hoping there will be a follow up book …… I for one will definitely read it! By the end of the book, I loved the character Tracey ….. she grew on me. Love to see her in the next book 😉.

Kerry Kaya now firmly sits on the royalty of gangland crime fiction, and when you pick up one of her books you know that she will deliver strong male and female characters, along with a story that will take you on a thriller of a ride and will have plenty of action and twists along the way. This book is the first in a new series and the author has set her foundations down well and I am really looking forward to seeing what journey the characters take.
The author sets all her books in Essex, an area she knows well, and she also likes to have lots of family links within her stories. I really do not know how she also fits in a full time job in the NHS on top of all her writing.
This book is gangland crime so expect serious crimes, foul language and all sides of the gangland families but it also gives pointers to how life can so easily change and although you think you may know people you may never know the real person until they are no longer with us.
If you like UK gangland crime, as I do, you will love this book. It is addictive and you will not be able to put it down.
Many thanks to Boldwood Books, NetGalley and Kerry Kaya for providing me with an electronic advanced copy of the book in return for a honest, unbiased review.
The book is released today in paperback, e-book and audiobook formats

It’s Terry Tempest’s 50th Birthday and his wife Tracy has organised a ‘surprise’ party. All their family and friends are there ready to wish Terry a happy birthday, including his sons Ricky and Jamie, who are both a chip off the old block and also work for Terry and his long-time friend Kenny Kempton.

Terry does well to act surprised when he walks into his party, but a much bigger surprise rears its head only minutes later, in the form of a tragedy which will have ever-lasting repercussions for the family.

Whilst Tracy starts looking into Terry’s business affairs, Ricky and Jamie want answers and will stop at nothing to get them. Tracy soon learns that she didn’t know her husband as well as she thought, and with her sons they uncover Terry’s unpleasant business dealings, with both Kenny and the tall handsome Max Hardcastle, another of Terry’s childhood friends. What they discover risks tearing the Tempest family apart and will sully Terry’s memory forever.
I really enjoyed this book, the first I have read by this author. I loved the character Tracy, and this is a gripping first book in the Tempest series, so I hope to get more acquainted with her in the next books in the saga. I would highly recommended Kerry Kaya for a gritty, gripping gangland crime book.

Kenny and Terry are business partners and have been friends from being kids, both from the East End of London, and not adverse to wheeling and dealing to bring the money in.

Neither have worked in a full-time job for anyone else and always worked for themselves. Terry is a family man who has been married to Tracey for a long time and has 2 sons, Jamie and Ricky who also work for them on the debt collecting side of the business.

Kenny is also married and has a son called Shaun who also works in the business they have created.

Everything is on the up and up and the business is doing well, Terry is turning 50 with a surprise party organised by his loving wife Tracey, when Terry is celebrating his birthday Terry is shot dead.

Who would want to kill Terry?? Who would have the balls to kill Terry at his only party and why??

This is what the family want to know and will stop at nothing to find out!!! But in the process of finding this out they also find out lots about Terry that they didn't know and how their world changes!!

Great fast paced storyline with lots of twist and turns that keep you wanting you to turn the pages.

Well written with a great mix of characters, well worth a read!!!

An explosive start to a new series.

The tempest family headed by Terry tempest. Are a very wealthy gangland family from Dagenham, Essex.

They consist of Terry, his wife Tracey, and their two sons Ricky and Jamie. It's a major birthday for Terry and Tracey wants to throw him a surprise party at his luxury home with his friends and family. But tragedy strikes, leaving the family both angry and vengeful.

We meet Kenny Kempton who is Terry's business partner and best friend, and Terry's mother Patricia who is a bit of a handful and whom Tracey has come close to lamping on many occasions. Also, an old friend Max Hardcastle who has not long been released on license from prison for murdering his mum's husband for prostituting her and generally abusing her. He would have gotten away with it but somebody grassed him up?

The plot thickens. This book is exciting and has the potential for the rest of the series to be equally so.
The characters bring the pages alive, and the story keeps you gripped until the last page.

A really good book. Tracey Tempest loves her husband Terry and her two sons. She decides to throw he husband a surprise fifth birthday party, as the party is going she begins to wonder where Terry is and after he arrives as he gets ready to blow out the candles he is killed. The story takes a turn for Terry after a few days she gets herself together and decides she is going to find out who killed her Terry. This leads her to many different places and she begins to discover that Terry is not all that she thought he was. Wheat is worse she has had to put up with his mother who is a bi—h and is always putting her down, She finds her strength though and when you get to the end you wonder just what will happen. That is the real shocker as everything begins to unravel for the person who she thought was her friend and all of the others who wanted Terry dead, A very good story with good characters that will have you gripped to the pages until the end. Worth the read. I received this book from Netgalley.com

Fantastic new gangland series, The Tempests family, Dagenham London, meet Tracey and Terry Tempest, with their two sons Ricky and Jamie, as we see Terry's life end tragically on his fiftieth birthday, Tracey wants answers and needs to dig into his past. Her heart has shattered and died with her husband who she has known since she was sixteen years old, and she though she knew everything about her husband, and this is really going to open a can of worms for the family big time with a lot of betrayal and dark secrets.
Max Hardcastle does not trust Terry's best mate and partner Kenny Kempton that also opens up more secrets, as you read on.
