Fifteen-year-old Brandy Shaw, like most girls her age, deals with private demons. Forced to leave her hometown of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, for Denton, Florida, she manages to forget the boy she left behind for a new one, Travis Daly. But Travis has his own problems that end up affecting Brandy in a number of destructive ways.
After a chain of events lead to tragedy, Brandy must defend herself against charges of a heinous crime. All she has in her favor is a growing understanding of the mistakes she has made, her attorney and friend, Jack Turner—whose own early life had its problems as well—and her family.
A story of love and redemption, Gathering Twigs captures the power of realizing we are worth more than we ever believed possible.
Charles Tabb retired from teaching to pursue his dream of writing. His family supported his decision, and a year later he published his first novel, Floating Twigs, while also publishing several short stories with various literary journals. He has won successive Golden Nib awards for fiction. In 2018 his story "As Luck Would Have It" won third prize, and in 2019 the psychological thriller "The Thirteenth Painting" won first prize. Now his fan base is growing, with readers from all over the U.S.
Charles lives near Richmond, Virginia, with his wife, dogs, and computer. His wife enjoys tending to her two off-the-track thoroughbred horses, but Charles prefers their dogs. He was elected president of the Hanover Writers Club, a chapter of the Virginia Writers Club, in March 2019. He is also a proud and active member of the Virginia Writers Club and James River Writers.
Charles' desire to go out and do something with his life started at age three when his mother told him to wait in the car, which was parked in the driveway, for maybe a minute while she went inside to retrieve something she needed for the short jaunt into town. Once alone, Charles moved to the driver's seat and put the car in gear. The vehicle rolled down the driveway and was heading for the mailbox across the street when a neighbor mowing his lawn heard Charles' shouts for help (the car's windows were rolled up, mind you) and managed to hit the brake and put the car back in gear before tragedy struck. To this day, Charles can be loud enough to be heard in a crowded room if the need arises.
Although he loves to travel, he prefers to be seated at his desktop writing novels and short stories. His second novel, Hell is Empty, is the first in a detective series. It will be released in the fall of 2019.
Charles is also available to speak to groups about writing. If you would like to contact him about speaking to a group, you can reach him at charlestabb.com, where contact information is provided. He also speaks to school groups, especially high school English students, about goal-setting and meeting those goals, using his writing career as an example.
This is the third book in a trilogy, but it works well as a standalone. The characterization is good and so is the story, but the writing is clunky and repetitive. The author has taken the advice "Show don't tell" a bit too literally,. I really don't need to know how many times the phone rings when someone is making a mundane business call etc. I often find that with religious or inspirational fiction writing standards don't tend to be as high as they are for other types of books. I don't see why this is since there's nothing dull about living by one's faith or reaching out to help others, but in my experience this is often true.
Jack is a very different kind of lawyer; one who doesn't HAVE to work ever in his life but who is very compassionate about working to save innocent people and to help them improve their lives. All of the characters are wonderful people, with a few exceptions, and he has a great dog! Very nice legal stories with a satisfying ending. I enjoyed all three of them, and would love to have this series continue.
Meeting people like the characters would be great. The world needs them. Therfore enjoying the books was no problem. Being swept away into a book is what I like and this author accomplished it with this series. There is ģreat development of his characters, able to feel they could be real wishing I knew more of them in the real world.
Really enjoyed all three books in Twigs series. Great characters and inspiring storyline. We all make mistakes in our lives, some people are fortunate to learn from them and try (successfully ) to makes better choices, unfortunately, some just don't succeed. We are blessed with many opportunities during our lifetimes, let us not squander them!
This was a sad series of 3 books about a young boy who was given a chance to overcome his lack of proper parenting. It tells about him growing up and paying forward the kindness and love extended to him by the people who cared for him more than his own parents. It was sad but it shows that one can overcome obstacles and forgive others who have wronged you.
Our world would certainly be a better place if there was more Jacks & Jenny’s available for our lost teens. Life is certainly full of lots of sharp turns, ditches and dead ends, but, when we take the right turns we glow with satisfaction. This 3 book series is an interesting view of life when a child is left alone to grow up.
I enjoyed reading the twigs series and recommend it to other readers. These books are written by a very good author the reading is smooth and he’s very articulate they are written well and they are punctuated very well he has a real art to his writing and I enjoyed how his characters developed throughout the story.
Perseverance, loyalty, friendship, determination, honesty and love all play a big part in this novel. Angst, cruelty, and making wrong decisions also play a big part. The courtroom scenes are dramatic and leave the reader gripping at the pages in anticipation of the outcome. Another must read by this author, another keeper! ENJOY!
This was such a good book. It really was such a great story and it really touches your emotions. I really enjoyed the characters and the storyline. All it takes is one person to help another and it can change their life forever. I enjoyed this book from start to finish.
This is the final book in a three-book series that started with Jack as a very young teen who had parents that were the town drunks. He ends up being mentored by an older gentleman and lady that live in Jack's hometown on the Gulf Coast of Florida. In the second and now the third book, we see Jack as an adult and his path to giving back to his community and being a mentor to teenagers.
Some books with sequels are quite treasured and continue a precious story. This third book in the twig series continues Jack Turner story but doesn’t quite live up to the hype of the first book. I’m curious where the series will continue going and impressed at a series of books that takes redemption as its theme.
I read all of the "Twigs" books and loved them all. One of these days I will start all over again and re-read all of them. I highly recommend this book and all others in the series.
Reminded me so much of the first book and its characters. Love how this story played out. I have really enjoyed this 3book series. Will was them over And over again. Love the writings of Charles Tabb. Thank you for another wonderful story.
Once again I hope that Mr. Tabb can find it in his most creative mind to come up with a fourth fifth and even more books about Jack Turner and his most kind and thoughtful life.
This is a sad story showing how so.many young people live hard lives. It is also great to have loving and caring people like Jack, Jenny, Mrs Dawson so they can have a fulfilling life.
Great book. Jack Turner is a wonderful lawyer and friend of teenagers with problems. He has a group with his wife Jenny to meet with teenagers once a week while trying to get them out of trouble. This about a girl named Brandy who falls for one of the guys from the book and tragedy happens
This was another rich character dance through some familiar and sometimes devastating life events and relationship building experiences. A good conclusion to the 3 book series that left me satisfied and hopeful for humanity
This was an amazing book. My emotions are everywhere. It was very well written and I did not want to put it down. I recommend this series to all. I just love this series. It really touches the heart strings. I am ready to find out how this ends now.
I have loved all 3 books in this series. Good, clean, well written stories. So refreshing in these days. I like the continuity of each book, spanning 30 years of life. Well done, Charles Tabb.
I will miss.Jack, Brinkley, and the other characters I have gotten to know through this series. The stories were uplift and I look forward to reading more from this au.
