Dave Lieberman is a young, hungry, and hot new chef who can take the simplest, freshest ingredients and turn them into an eye-popping feast for every one of your senses.
Everybody wants to know what's for dinner -- from the people eating it to the person cooking it. Dave's got answers to that question for every night of the week -- and every kind of party you might want to throw. From romantic dinners for two, to the casual sit-down for four or more, to the party buffet for the crowd you've been meaning to gather, Dave's recipes are easy, original, and no-fail crowd-pleasers. He knows that no one wants to buy a dozen ingredients for one recipe, so he focuses on making the most of everything you use. With Dave's meals, prices are reasonable, waste is nonexistent, and food is glorious.
Dave's American cuisine has something for everyone--fresh and easy salads, soups, and starters; main courses such as Potato-Chip-Crusted Salmon and fragrant Beef Stew; side dishes such as Asian-Style Slaw and Basil-Chive Red Potato Mash; and desserts like Raspberry Cream Parfait and wicked and wonderful things with chocolate. Mix in recipes and advice for throwing an amazing brunch, an indoor tailgate party, and the best happy hour anyone can imagine, and you'll find yourself, as Dave did, with friends who love being around you and your fresh, original, and delicious meals.
One never really completely reads a cookbook even though I'm recording it as read. We had a paperback copy of this cookbook. We made one very popular recipe in our repertoire of cooking - Penne alla Vodka!
The awesome thing about this book is that Lieberman cooks with a budget while making affordable food that real people would actually eat. I attempted the fruit tart recipe, and it came out not only gorgeous, but delicious. He makes it really easy and understandable. There are a lot of drink recipes in the cookbook, which I wasn't really interested in. All in all, there is a pretty wide spectrum of recipes that are all easy for the average person to make but still make for special meals.
Probably not for a total kitchen novice, but the recipes aren't overly complicated and I foresee several recipes becoming standards in our house. His recipes call for very few "speciality" ingredients which make most dishes very accessible for the average home cook. The little "Dave's Take" notes in the margins are cute and useful for less experienced cooks. P.S. Whatever happened to this guy after the Food Network completely changed its programming?
I picked this up on a whim, but I love love love this cookbook. Lieberman is writing to the beginner cook in all of us, and his book is full of helpful tips - even to the extent of what you can use as a substitute for more expensive cookware that young people may not be able to afford. His meals are easy and very, very tasty. It's the new go-to in my kitchen. Highly recommended.
This is a wonderful cookbook! My husband and I love food, love cooking, love spending time together in the kitchen, love everything about food. However, we're both super poor grad students, so it's not always easy to find delicious recipes we can afford. This cookbook gives us just that! I picked this up at the library and I desperately need to buy it!
The recipes in her were too fancy for me, but for someone that likes to spend time in the kitchen and cares about presentation and variety, they are probably quite useful and easy.
Found my favorite Sloppy Joe recipe in this book. Recommend using half of the soy sauce the recipe calls for. Makes a ton. I have leftovers with a family of four.
