It's Easter and time for the annual Grove Hill Easter Egg Hunt. David Pike is taking his younger brother, weird Richie. Richie is excited, but for David it's one big yawn. But then David finds out that the Egg Hide 'n' Seek will be held at Graveyard School. An Easter egg hunt near a graveyard? This year, it's going to be more egg-citing than it's cracked up to be!
Another not-so-great book in the Graveyard School series by Nola Thacker (aka 'Tom B. Stone in this instance), I was drawn to this due to its epic cover art and the fact that it takes place around Easter. My ex-girlfriend scored a copy of this for a "reasonable" price when you consider this book is incredibly rare and usually sells for a couple hundred dollars, and I figured there was no better time to give this a read. The story follows David and Raúl who come into contact with an egg that ultimately hatches a monstrous Easter bunny. This was pretty boring even for just a 100-pager and there isn't really anything exciting about this. I'll give this a 3/5 instead of a lower rating because it wasn't insultingly terrible and I enjoyed the death threats made by the spooky bunny. Recommended only if you're wanting to complete the series or if you're looking for a quick Easter read.
I figured The Easter Egg Haunt from the Graveyard School series would be fun to read around Easter time. This is an incredibly rare book, that goes for a hundred or so dollars.I of course got mine way cheaper and I'm greatful. The story begins with the grovehill students in the auditorium for a school assembly. The principal Dr.Morthouse announces that there will be an egg contest. Most of the kids are afraid of this, because they know Graveyard school is actually pretty scary. We follow a character named David. He has a little brother named Richie that is super excited for this. One day while David picks Richie home from Baseball practice Richie finds an egg.He carries it home with him and starts taking care of it and even puts it in an incubator. One day when Richie goes to the library with David.David gets separated and runs into a giant Easter bunny inside the library that tells him he needs to destroy the egg.Of course nobody believes him.The egg ends up getting bigger and bigger until one night when David sneaks up to get rid of the egg it's already broken and it looks like somebody broke into the room. The window is smashed and the cat is at first is to blame. But the cat is scared and hiding and David ends up finding fur not the same color as the cat in the room.I also have to point out this book does randomly change point of views and one of them is from the cat which is really something. The egg does end up hatching and it turns out there is a giant Easter bunny that wants to eat kids presumably. There is a decently scary scene when the bunny traps both kids inside a drain pipe and tries to eat them and the scene where the rabbit lifts David was pretty scary. The ending was good and the Easter stuff was really there too. Mr.Lucre appears at the egg hunt or Haunt in a very bright suite and David has to dress as a bunny while other kids dressed up as chick's and even a kitten. One of the best surprising scenes is when the giant bunny hops in the graveyard and a skeleton arm pops out.As far as negatives go I didn't really understand the egg hatching thing. There was already a evil rabbit in the graveyard before the egg hatched. So I didn't really get that ,other then that the book was a very simple fun story about an evil rabbit. The climax was also pretty predictable.I give the Easter Egg Haunt a three out of five stars.
