A successful investment banker by day, his focus away from work rests on his two children - teenage Stacy and 8-year-old Tom.Both Fred's children attend a notable and highly respected school and life, despite Stacy's rebellious nature that occasionally rears its head, is fairly smooth and easy-going.Brightown, despite its outward look of a flourishing community where people are safe, has an undercurrent of corruption that is fuelled by Sterling Jenkins, an ambitious city counsellor with links to organized crime. His ambition is to become the mayor of the city but standing in his way is Melanie Rodriguez, whose popularity is unshakeable. In a quiet suburb of the city, Brad Baller, an eccentric scientist who is in debt to the mob and Sterling, works to perfect his latest creation - a creature so terrifying that it would spell disaster if it was ever released. Now, as the Burke's perfect lives in Brightown are thrown into chaos, Fred finds himself separated from the kids and must somehow reach them before the unthinkable happens.Fred will do anything to protect his family from the terror on the streets. But with an even greater danger lurking in the shadows, will he get to them in time?
Shaun Hill’s writing style is amazing. He uses the most intense, sublime and imaginary language to tell this story. The story starts by introducing one of the main characters, Sterling Jenkins, a corrupt politician. Sterling wants to become next mayor of Brightown so bad that he would do anything, including have his opponent murdered. Sterling goons gives the job to a local scientist, Brad Baller. Brad Baller who also works at the dog food factory but Baller has other plans from the beautiful Brightown.
On the other side of Brightown lives Frea Burke and his two kids Stacy and Tom. Fred is a successful business but also a devoted single father who would do anything to protect his children. So when chaos starts in the small town and dogs start going crazy, Fred shares a secret with Stacy that will ultimately save her and Tom’s life.
The plot follows the gradual demonic terror fills the streets of Brightown and the criminals are more rappant than ever. I really don’t want to get into the story beyond this point because I want this fascinating piece of art to unfold like art right before your eyes, as it did mine. Just read the book and enjoy the story for yourself. I will add that this book was fun to read. I loved reading the development of Stacy and she was able to step up to the plate when it was time to do so. The author, Shaun Hill does an excellent job with keeping the theme, suspense and atmosphere throughout the story. His sense of character and imagery is strong.
All around, this was touching and satisfying. I would definitely read more from the author. Highly Recommend this book to Horror Fiction lovers!.
