The Thrice Named Man #12

The Thrice Named Man XII: Athenian

Rate this book
The year is 265 AD and the once proud Roman Empire is coming apart at the seams.
It will take a man with iron in his veins to set things right and accomplish the impossible.
From a humble upbringing, a boy emerges who is destined to change history.
This is the story of Lucius Domitius Aurelianus.

Part Athenian
To strengthen bonds of friendship, Gallienus sends Lucius to the Court of Odaenathus of Palmyra. Before long, he and his friends are drawn into a bloody struggle for power between the lords of the desert.
It is but the beginning of Rome’s problems…
The Harbinger bides his time and soon the savage Goths launch their fleet from the northern shores of the Dark Sea.
One misfortune after another befalls the already crippled Empire. The writing is on the wall - evil is about to triumph.
But the forces of darkness had not reckoned with the half-barbarian who walks in the shadow of the Lord of the Field of Blood.
Only one man can turn the tide.
It has begun.

Ah! Treacherous Curs!

I’m sure glad not to have been in the Roman Legions at the time of these books. I mean, I know modern day commanders can be found severely wanting, but these Roman Emperor dudes take the cake!

The legions fighting each other on the basis of feeble gentle folk who simply want to be the ‘Purple one’ is tragically outrageous.

Amazing series!

I have really enjoyed this series! Great story lines, characters and action, lots of action. The attention to even the smallest of details is greatly appreciated. I have been reading each book so fast and I need to slow down - don't want this series to end! Thanks for your obvious hard work!

Savoury

A rich mix of historical detail; a rich mix of characterisation; and a rich mix of fierce action makes this a reading dish to be savoured. The author certainly knows his way around the Romans and their tribal adversaries. Worth a second read!

Captivating

Again, I couldn't put it down. The descriptive writing just transported me to a different place a different time. I feel like I am present on a horse riding along with them, my emotions going up and down, just amazing writing. Thanks.
