Put down your blood packs and boba straws! Charming and filled with spice, Jay Michael Night's newest adult fantasy will take you to an amazing world with a fantastic twist on the paranormal romance genre. In Ocean's Edge, discover the story of Viking vampire Alexander Edge and mermaid princess Nimera. As a Keeper of the Peace (KOP) for the mystical world of Alius, I know danger comes with the territory. I've also accepted that things hardly ever go according to plan. So when the Synedrium, Alius' government, sent my team and me to investigate a slew of kidnappings, it changed my life forever. The night of the rescue, I met Nimera, a mermaid trapped in a tank, forced to entertain the worst kind of men. But I made a mistake and gunshots were fired. Nimera was suddenly dying in my arms so I did the only thing I could, making her like me; a vampire. That is a big no-no in my world. Now the Synedrium has declared her my responsibility, which I knew would happen. What I didn't expect was the strange, magical connection that formed between us when she turned. The stunning mermaid was suddenly in my head, inching her way into my heart. Throw in the fact the kidnappings were part of a plot to end the world as we know it, and you've got a typical work week for my little supernatural crime-fighting team.

I saw Mama Tot giving her review for the first half of the second book on TikTok! And with spooky season coming up, I figured this one(and book 2 of course) would be perfect to add to my “Fall TBR”! And boy am I glad I did! Vampires, mermaids, wolves, witches, elves, and SO MUCH MORE! This book was packed with action, enjoyable banter between friends, an unexpected love story, and a fight for their world that kept me on the edge of my seat! I’d highly recommend checking this one out!
Another amazing book from Jay. I loved the characters especially Alex and Nimera. Could not put the book down and went way past my bedtime to finish it. Perfect ending making me want to rush to his next book. The humour, the adventures, the magic was the best I have read. If you love fantasy, vampires, elves, sirens, fairies, nymphs, mermaids, werewolves, orcs, witches- it has all of them woven into the story beautifully.
Ocean's Edge was so much fun to read! I love the unique world building and characters! I mean a how many vampire mermaid peincesses have you heard of? And Nimera is a badass! I love her and Alex together too! This book was well written, and I loved how Michael seems to address the reader here and there with fun comments! I had a blast reading this book! Going to get the next one immediately!
I really liked this one. There were, again, some editing issues I saw (the telepathy and narration were confusing to separate at times), but I definitely enjoyed all the different creatures coming together. I would almost classify this as YA if it wasn't for the spice, but because of that I'd say this was more NA.
This was the first book by this Author and I truly devoured this book and. Want the second book to find out what happens as he did leave it on a bit of a cliff hanger loved the book was on the edge of my seat at times thank you for an amazing story
I am so glad I stumbled upon Jay Michael Night on TikTok. Ocean’s Edge is the first book I have read from him and I will hands down be reading more of his works! Ocean’s Edge was fast paced, pulled you into a fantastical, modern world of mythical creatures, and was laced with delightful and quirky humor. My only complaint is I wish it were longer! I would love to spend more time with these fun and unique characters.
Viking vampires...mermaid princesses turned vampire...witch...wolf shifter...orphan human who just fits in with the rest. All the makings of a great story. Even a powerful vampire must sometimes learn that there are consequences to their actions. Turning the mermaid princess came with the consequence of her becoming his responsibility. In this case, the consequence was not so bad.
This book was a lot of fun and the spice is very nice without being overdone. This story is told from the MMC POV and he does the narrating as you go as well. It’s a bit different but it was a fun read. I can’t wait to read the rest of this series.
Y/A Fantasy love story with a creative plot twist...
Jay Michael Night’s “Ocean's Edge” is book 1 in the “Alius and Love series” series. In this Y/A supernatural romance, we find Alexander, a Viking vampire who has been tasked with maintaining peace in the supernatural world of Alius. While on a mission he frees a mermaid who was being held as a prisoner. He is faced with a challenging choice that must be made in order to save the mermaid's life. He develops a new species of monster from her, one that has never existed before, and turns her into a vampire. She is now his responsibility, but what he does not anticipate is the powerful love that will inevitably bond them together…
A return to the science-fiction-infused fantasy subgenre is brought about by the novel "Ocean's Edge," which is very much welcomed. The action is consistently fascinating, and any predictable happenings are deftly concealed by wonderfully realized fantasy imagery. It may have a simple template for a supernatural adventure, but it exploits its magical quirks and a broad quest to supplement all the right points for a well-rounded, very enjoyable supernatural romance. Highly recommended.
"Ocean's Edge" wasn't just a book; it was a personal odyssey into a realm where the supernatural collided with my emotions. Alexander Edge, the Viking vampire Keeper of the Peace, went beyond being a character—I felt like I knew him, his struggles, and his heart.
When Alexander's journey intertwined with Nimera, a trapped mermaid princess, it ceased to be a mere plotline. Their connection became a personal whisper in my heart, and I found myself cheering for their love amidst the chaos. The novel's blend of romance, fantasy, and mystery was not just a story—it was a symphony of emotions, each note resonating with me.
The characters ceased to be ink and paper; they became confidants in my literary voyage. The plot, with its world-shaking conspiracies, felt like a shared secret. Despite the recognizable tropes, the author's unique narrative made it feel like a tale crafted exclusively for me.
"Ocean's Edge" transcended the ordinary; it became a part of my personal universe where love and danger danced intimately. For those seeking more than a read, but a personal connection, this novel invites you to dive into a world that feels uniquely yours.
“Ocean’s Night” by Jay Michael Night is an entertaining paranormal romance with a fascinating mix of supernatural creatures. In a genre that has exploded in recent years and runs the risk of becoming repetitive, the author comes up with some fun characters that I haven’t come across before.
Peacekeeper-viking-vampire Alexander gets involved with Nimera, who becomes a mermaid vampire during the course of the story. There is, of course, plenty of the expected steamy action in the novel. The storytelling is fast-paced, although it indulges in many of the clichés of the genre, but the original characters go a long way to remedying that. I definitely recommend this book for fans of paranormal romance.
Ocean's Edge by Jay Michael Night is a modern romantic fantasy novel. The main character is Alexander Edge, who is a KOP—similar to law enforcement—tasked with investigating the disappearance of various creatures around Alius. During one such investigation, he meets and liberates Nimera, a mermaid princess. However, while doing so she is grievously injured, and he is forced to turn her. While navigating a new responsibility and connection, Alex must still get to the bottom of the abductions. This fantasy was unique in my opinion because of the incorporation of various magical creatures like vampires, mermaids, and sirens in a modern setting set with suspense and a romance. Nimera specifically, being a vampire mermaid princess, is the coolest!
Ocean's Edge by Jay Michael Night is a supernatural romantic tale of a viking vampire named Alex and a mermaid princess named Nimera. It will give you an “underworld” vibe because of the “crossbreeding” kind of thing when Alex had to sire Nimera to save her life. You must read the book to enjoy the details of their adventure. The characterization of Alex as a savior and protector was very well written and Princess Nimera as a damsel was a great addition. Two of my favorite supernatural beings in one tale. Although some scenes and parts of the plot were expected to happen, the author still did a great job in the reveal and delivery. It is a very imaginative and inventive story. I can't wait to read the rest of the series.
What a captivating book! I couldn’t put it down since lots of things happen page after page. The tremendous plot contains rescues, vampires, mermaids and supernatural crime. All these elements are presented in such an interesting way and so masterfully intertwined that it’s impossible not to continue reading the novel with enthusiasm and anxiety. Alexander, the main protagonist, is a Viking vampire whose life changed abruptly when he and his team have to investigate a kidnapping. Things often tend to turn out differently from the way we plan them. Believe me when I say that I’m dying to get my hands on the next book because the ending left me wanting more. I’m sitting here patiently waiting for the next installment in the series!
In the mystical world of Alius, Alexander Edge a Viking vampire is commended to investigate a series of kidnappings. In that investigation, Alexander finds a mermaid princess, Nimera, and ends up turning her into a vampire to save her life. Ocean's Edge is an action-fiction book with a touch of fantasy and love. Reading this book was a refreshingly fun, an action-packed adventure that the author, Jay Michael Night, brings into the book allowing you to expand your imagination and keep you focused on reading the whole time. I enjoyed reading this book and I cannot wait to read the second book in the Alius and Love series. I highly recommend it.
If you're looking for action and thrill in a mystical context, then this book and characters won't be a let down. Readers who are drawn to this genre will find this book has characters that are full of suspense and strength. Whether it's about saving a trapped mermaid, or figuring out a way out from the bad guys, this book keeps the reader on their toes, constantly. Plus, the language and imagery are so well written that the reader can easily imagine themselves in the middle of these action-packed, fun plots. If vampires, mermaids and other mystical creatures are what you enjoy reading about, then this won't be a disappointment.
I first grabbed this book because it has a super cool premise. I mean, who wouldn't be interested in a mermaid turned vampire?! The story was engaging right off the bat, but then slowed to a crawl for a good chunk of the book. I did struggle a bit with the writing style as some of the writing seemed well-developed while other parts seemed very inconsistent. All that aside, I LOVED all of the magical creatures incorporated. The spice was definitely spicy, though I feel that there were several times when it was thrown in at odd moments IMO. The book has its redeeming qualities for sure, but I feel that it just needs a bit more editing for consistency.
Jay Michael Night has taken the things that go bump in the night from some of the oldest tales known to man and maid them lovable and intriguing. From hybrids, vamps, mages and more this story will keep you hooked and on the edge of your seat. The love and passion put into the characters is evident and the structure of the villainess is classic with a fresh twist. Can’t wait for the next book.
This book had be laughing at some of the MC’s antics. I am pretty sure I have heard or seen my husband act in much the same as the MC’s dorky moments, which made me love him (the MC and my husband). This was a quick easy read. Even thought it does have some action in it, it wasn’t super deep and did allow me to escape reality. Who doesn’t love a good save the world action romance? I’ll be back for more from this author.
It actually was the first vampire novel I ever read and I have to say it was pretty good. I'm not such a vampire fan, which I didn't had high expectations but it really was better than I expected, especially because of the crime part, which was really exciting. I really hope there are other books of this series coming soon. One thing I still have to say ,that I think it's funny how vampires always have different powers (like shimmering in the sun...) and I really liked this books' version
A big thank you to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for the eARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is the first in a new series. This started out great for me, I was interested in the characters but somewhere I sort of got bored-or lost interest. I really liked Alex and Nimera but I am not sure what happened but the rest was just ok for me. Not sure, maybe my mood changed and if I read it in a month may love it all. 3 stars I would recommend giving it a try though-as the vampires are different.
I saw the author on TikTok and downloaded the book.
Let me preface this by saying that I love fantasy books and vampires—they’re my favorite. I loved this idea of “monsters” living among us but we can’t see them. But the development of the story felt really rushed. I thought it could have been longer and had more story development.
I’m going to continue reading the rest of the series for sure because I do like the story.
I loved it!! You get a action packed adventure. You get vampires and mermaids, sitens and shifters. You get magic and a few baddies along the way.
I could hear Michael in the story. His sense of humor was everywhere. He is the second author I’ve read where you could hear them in the book. Such a great read!
This book was great. It has just enough spicy romance, although I wouldn’t mind more, paranormal creatures, heroes, villains, back story and more. I can’t wait to read the next one. Highly recommend if you like paranormal romance
A quick, fun paranormal adventure romance. Definitely a great palette cleanser. And the banter between the characters is everything you could want in found family!
This is a great book and perfect for all paranormal lovers. Just the right amount of spice and plot. If your looking for a vampire book with a mermaid love interest then this is the book for you
This was such a fun fast read! I loved the storyline and the characters. I also love how many different types of characters there are! (Mermaids, vampires, witches, oh my!) Literally read this in one sitting. Highly recommend if you like paranormal romantasy!!
What a fun and unique book! Alex is a 500 year old vampire who first rescues, then must save her life by turning a mermaid princess named Nimera. The chemistry between the two is fantastic with this bond. Love and adventure follow. Such a great read!
