Rate this book
For seventeen years Alexis “Lexi” Turner has been running. From foster homes, creeps on the street and the law.

Lexi is a survivor, she has spent her whole life moving from one abusive foster home to the next, until she decided to take charge of her own life. Living in abandoned buildings, couch surfing and working at a strip clubs are huge improvement on what she had before.

All she needs is enough money to feed herself, finish high school and hopefully go to college.
She has a plan.
That is until she is caught and sent to live with a strange foster family up-state, —her new high school isn’t much better.

Rafferty King was forced like Lexi to this new foster home, but he fits in better. And that’s saying something for a total misfit. Hot as hell and getting into fights, while ignoring her existence. Whatever.

Then there are the twins Ranger and Maverick, also known as “The joker and The Loner.” They know who she is and give her the new girl treatment she is all too familiar with.

And how can a history teacher look that hot, there should be rules against that kind of thing. But there is something about Galen Donovani, that has Lexi feeling safe when he is near.
While everyone else avoids him.

What the hell is going on in the state of Washington. And why are there so many wolves roaming at Port Willow High!

17+ RH shifter and vampires.

Ugh...I'm so super weird.

Okay, so even though I love RH books, I am really super weird when it comes to certain things. While I do not mind some sword crossing, I absolutely DO NOT like it when the people in the harem begin to form relationships with each other while also trying to form one with the FMC or after they have formed one with the FMC.

If two people (or a group) are already in a relationship prior to meeting the FMC and they continue on with their relationship even after forming one with the FMC, I am totally okay with that. BUUUTTTT...if the people in the harem were NOT dating previous to meeting the FMC, then I don't want them to start after meeting the FMC. I don't know why, but it makes my gut clench, and I feel like it's cheating. I KNOW, I KNOW....I don't understand it either.

In other words, if Bob and John are dating, and then they meet Sarah and decide they want to bring her into their relationship....I'm so down with that. However, if Bob and John are friends, and they both like Sarah and begin dating her, then I absolutely do not want them to decide that they want to start dating each other as well. Again..I know it doesn't make sense, but it is just something that I do not like.

So...while I really enjoyed this book, something happened that made me not like it anymore. After reading what I said earlier, I'm sure it's pretty obvious what happened. This is a great book, but it unfortunately incorporated one of my biggest, most unforgivable, pet peeves.

3.5 STARS due to the Onset

Having skipped out on her last foster home, and doing ok on her own Lexi finds herself once again caught and put in another foster home - one she is determined to run from, but the people she's been placed with aren't just human and apparently neither is she.

I liked that Lexi didn't take any BS from anyone, and she seemed super kickass and independent early in the book. This started of super promising, and my nose was deep in my kindle, but then things kinda fizzled, although not so badly that I wanted to weep, hoping the potential not exactly reached in this book comes to fruition in book two. Also hoping Lexi will turn back into the heroine introduced at the start rather than being consumed/focused on how attracted she is to the guys.

Out of her potential mates Ranger I disliked, he pissed me off and then annoyed me for most of the book, hopefully he's better in book two.

The timeline also needed developing to much was crammed into a short period of time.

Overall hoping for more character development and depth in book two.

This one just didn't do it for me and I gave up about 60% in. I think I would have pushed through to the end if it was just one book but knowing that there's two more to follow that I knew already I wouldn't read had me stopped early. I think the premise was interesting and the beginning was interesting, but it got a little too jumbled for me. There was a lot going on with a lot of characters and it made me lose interest.

Belle Harper I need more of Lexi and her men. Plenty of sexual tension and a great plot. It's going to be interesting what happens next after that ending.

TLDR: poorly executed with third book that is completely lacking in a plot or climax. Skip.

Update having finished the series: (update has spoilers)

This series needs more work than I realized after book 1. For one, there is a lot of plagiarism sprinkled throughout the books. If you are going to take lines from a book, movie, show, etc, you have to attribute them. That means having Lex and Ada say bring it on, oh it's already been brought you MUST have someone say did you just quote bring it on. Not doing so, like Harper does, is plagiarism and is not only bad writing but illegal.

Book 3 is literally just an epilog. There is no plot, no conflict, no climax. It's just Lex getting it on with each guy individually and in pairs, a prom invite, trying to introduce the mean girl two books too late. I think Oliva is supposed to be the bad guy but she and her story line are so weak it's pathetic. They are already in a committed relationship and she is a random human with no connection to the pack other than sleeping with two guys. There is literally no reason she would think she holds power or Lexi would find her a threat.

While a ton of time is spent on sex, the rest of book 3 is dedicated to introducing story lines for other characters. Ada has a love triangle that is unresolved. Jett has some baggage with his ex. What's this about Lexi's dad? A story on her aunt. What you never get is the rest of the story on Lexi and her guys.

Why does Galen have a bunch of scars? No idea. Never told. How did he become a vamp? No idea. Not told. What was the deal with those people who made him feel worthless? Are they from twenty years ago or 300? No idea, never told. Oh and Ranger has major anger issues, but no worries, he starts a fight club that we learn about in one line the last five pages of the book. Good thing that got wrapped up and resolved. Oh wait. It didn't.

And are we really supposed to think the alpha is a good guy? Yeah he makes hard decisions. That makes him nice. Oh wait, there is the whole threatening Raff's life to force Lexi in his house and to mate with his sons and sending Galen away to try and prevent his relationship with Lexi? And we should also forget about the part where he doesn't let Lexi make any decisions for herself and acts as though he owns her and has rights to decide her life?

And I'm sorry, WTF would anyone want to be a shifter in this world when you literally cannot leave the town your pack is in? Want to go to college? Nope. Disney? Nope. Vegas? Nope. New York? Yeah right. Get invited to DC to meet the president? You ain't going because in this world shifters can't leave pack lands.

Beyond that Lexi is almost unbearable in book 2, she is so annoying and immature. Guess who almost died, again in book 2? Yup, them. With ALL the other characters not one single other character could be at risk? Seriously?

I gave books 2 and 3 two star reviews.

original
Good idea needs work

Let me start by saying although this book has issues the underlying story is strong enough that I will continue to book 2.

This book is a little juvenile. I don't mean the characters, other than when they are speaking they are pretty normal teenagers the writing itself is a little underdeveloped. You can tell the author is. Can of the paranormal, rh, orphan girl is sent to new rich family after years of abuse where the family spoils her and teachers her nice things can happen while her would be love is a jerk. That's fine. I'm a fan too. That's why I picked up this book. Unfortunately because the writing isn't the strongest there are times boxes are definitely just checked for these plot points. You also get told things are happening rather than led through the story as the character experience it. It's had to get lost in the story when it isn't being painted for you. The dialog needs a lot of work. It kind of reads like a 90s computer. Harper needs to remember it is teens, or a 333 year old vampire talking. The speech patterns should reflect this. Teens use contractions, slang, and run on sentences. There is good chunk of character relationship development that is skipped. It goes from I hate you to you got me I've cream I forgive your literal torture now. Hmmmm sorry, a few steps were skipped there. We also never get to know what the universe of this paranormal world.looks like. Do they have one large governing body? Who else is real? Does she have to listen to them? The story switches view points each chapter so the reader can get this important world establishing information even if Lexi doesn't. Oh, and we get it. Lexi has her period. Tell if about it for ten chapters is weird. And did you have to make her a cliche for all things periods?

I do have a real problem that the book repeatedly says if a hot guy.like you should this all of your life plans away to be with him in his small rural town. Go away to college? Oh no. If you lived him you would give up that life long dream. You can just go to a cut rare.online school same diff as four years in college followed by that grad program. You never give up your plans for a guy. If they love you they won't let you. If they ask you know they are wrong for you and you walk away. The fact that this book is supposed to be based on this strong female heroine but this is the message that is repeatedly put forward about giving it all.up for a guy is so disappointing

So bad it's good.

If you enjoy media like "The Room" or "Sharknado" you will absolutely love this book. If you're looking for a good RH with a good plot, characters, and drama, you'll probably want to stay away from this book.

Looking at the summary, I really wanted to enjoy Twice Bitten. I thought it would be a medium/slow-burn, coming of age and found family situation a la Starlee's Heart (sidenote: If that's what you're looking for, I 100% recommend this RH series), and it turned out to be the exact opposite. The very beginning seems promising, but it quickly unravels into a cliche riddled mess (which I enjoy reading on occasion but this wasn't done in an effective or pleasing manner), which is sad considering there are some interesting points in the book. If the plot focused on how the MC was initially disgusted with the supernatural reveal, or how MC struggled to integrate herself into the pack dynamic, or how MC was unprepared to deal with individuals who actually wanted to be with and around her, the book would have been significantly better. Instead, the book just kind of rambles and jumps between her being the most desired girl at school and being "stuck" with a family that isn't abusive. There are also grammar mistakes and a few spelling errors.

This might be my own mistake for skipping around, but I'm fairly certain that one of the male leads has a random dialogue style shift not even midway through the book. He originally speaks like a normal teen, which I found charming and went well with the MC's aloofness, but then does a 180 and speaks in an overly formal and mature tone. For a good portion of his following dialogue, I thought he was doing a parody of his father (who speaks in the exact same way), but no, that's just how he speaks suddenly. Those two were the only ones that spoke in such a way and I constantly had to check to see if they were joking or simply speaking; it's pretty jarring.

I also have to mention that there's an m/m romance sneaked in there near the end. It's not really expected or hinted at and is a bit of a dramatic point. I mention it mainly because I personally don't care for romances where the female isn't the center of the relationship, and also because

I was originally going to rate this a 1 star, but I found the ridiculousness of the story so wildly entertaining at times that I just had to add another.

Couldn't really finish

I really wanted to like this book, but I just couldn't get into it. I skipped to the end to see if it got better, but not really. The story had promise, which is why I gave two stars, but the writing and poor editing just made it harder to keep reading. There were misused words, tense changes, incorrect punctuation... as a grammar nerd I just couldn't ignore them to stay engaged. There were also some issues with the flow of chapters that were jarring. I think if the author gives this book another round of edits it could definitely be better.

I listened to the audiobook. It was enjoyable until about chapter 30. I liked how it took some time for the FMC to learn about the world, and the many perspectives helped with the world building. It lost me very quickly though. When the book started to focus in on the teenage drama I just wasn’t interested. Also, the spice in the book felt awkward and uncomfortable. I listened to this a lot in 2x speed and DNF’d at 90%. I didn’t finish the last 10% because I lost interest. I have zero fomo from not knowing how this book ends.

2/5 because I did enjoy the early chapters of this book.

This book started off weird. She's on the run from CPS (Child Protection Services) because she ran away from her last foster home... but she enrolled herself in a public school? And transferred her records over from her previous school? Yet CPS couldn't find her? I'm not American but I doubt that CPS is that dumb. If her records were transferred, there's definitely going to be a trail and it should not be that hard to find her. Also how do you transfer records without filing the requisite paperwork? Doesn't it go through the system? Straight off, I'm wondering what kind of research went into this and it's making me wonder about the age of the author, cos I think only a very young author would have overlooked something like that. If you have kids and you'd had to enroll them in school, for example, you'd definitely know that if a kid wanted to stay out of the system, they have to stay off the grid.

Anyway, then there's more weirdness. Usually in an RH, the moment the FMC meets her mates / harem, you know immediately cos there's a specific pull between them, especially in a shifter book where the "fated mates" trope normally comes into play. But... EVERY guy in school is attracted to her? Because she has a very enticing scent? And they're ALL vying for her and fighting over her and crowding her?

This made the book very confusing to me, especially because the author still wanted to use the fated mates trope, since Ranger claims that Lexi is his mate. You can't have it both ways. Fated mates are drawn to each other. And definitely I did not think that Ranger was Lexi's fated mate, because while she thought he was hot, she also thought that 99% of the guys in the school were hot -- in a detached "holy cow, they're hot" but not in an "they're hot and I want to jump their bones" way. But more than that, she also thought Ranger was a douchebag and she wasn't at all attracted to him as a person. She told him to get lost more than once. That does not AT ALL read like "fated mate" to me.

Which I was down with, because I disliked Ranger intensely. He was obnoxious, he wouldn't take no for an answer, he was cocky, and he was self-centred. I couldn't imagine how he has alpha qualities. He would make an absolutely shitty alpha because he has zero impulse control. He goes off half-cocked all the time and starts fights even though his Alpha father specifically ordered him not to. He's indisciplined, impatient, and incapable of thinking of the long term goal or the big picture. All really lousy qualities for a leader to have.

But I knew from the blurb that Ranger was going to be one of the harem, and ugh. The author tried to redeem him but I did not warm up to him. He did eventually start thinking about what Lexi wanted rather than what he wanted, but IMO it was too little too late. I disliked the way he treated Rafferty. They pick on Raff because he's an outsider wolf with no pack. Surely Ranger knew or could see that his father's plan was to eventually bring Raff into the Kiba pack? Otherwise why have Raff come here and live in Kiba territory? So what was all this about treating Raff like an outsider instead of helping him to integrate into the pack?

Sure, he wants Lexi, and Raff had scent-marked Lexi and claimed her (without her knowledge), but so what? It wasn't for Ranger to say who Lexi should be with. It was Lexi's choice. And since Lexi had repeatedly told him to go away, hello, take a damn hint!

I liked Lexi and Raff together and honestly, in this book I'd have preferred it to be a traditional shifter MF rather than RH. Lexi and Raff are great together, once Raff thawed and let his guard down. Throwing Galen into the mix... okay, it's weird because he's her teacher, granted she only has two months of high school left. But still. And he's a vampire, so no fated mates thing going on here, as far as I know, which begs the question of why do they like each other? She likes him cos he's hot. I didn't really see that there was anything else in their interactions that endeared him to her, except he was kind and let her use his office as a place to hide and eat lunch away from the suffocating attention of the student body. And I don't know why he likes her either.

I didn't like how Galen compelled the lady in the school office to alter Lexi's grades, to give Lexi passing marks in all classes and make sure she graduated with a B-average. This is unfair, it's dishonorable, and despicable. If Lexi knew, would she have wanted it? Would she have wanted a grade that she didn't earn? From what I know of Lexi's character, I didn't think so. This again makes me wonder about the age of the author because I can imagine a younger person thinking it's great to just adjust the marks of a high school student and "help" them graduate with little to no effort required. And it made me lose respect for Galen. A 312-year-old vampire really ought to know better. He's also the one who changed her records and made her take world history although she had never taken it before, just so that she would be placed in his class. All round, this makes him a dodgy guy with questionable ethics and zero integrity, not someone I want as a hero. AT ALL.

Maverick is the last harem member, Ranger's brother and another one of the Alpha's sons. Honestly I was not impressed by the Alpha and his family at all. Most of his sons seem like they have major issues and are jerks (except Jett and Lyell). Nash, another brother, fought Raff and slashed him so badly that he could barely walk, and then blackmailed Lexi by threatening to harm Raff again. The Alpha seemed mostly emotionless with zero empathy and a tendency to lay down the law, yet at the same time was really useless at hauling Ranger in or controlling him. I didn't see anywhere that he punished Ranger or took him to task for attacking Raff against orders. And he favoured his son, snatching Lexi away from her foster parents and installing her in his house just because Ranger told his father that he thought she was his mate. Let's say this again: the Alpha uprooted Lexi and forced her to move to his house because his son wanted her. Nepotism much? Zero respect for this horrible Alpha.

Back to Maverick, he's the one we know the least about. He tried to push Lexi away and was mean to her, but secretly sneaks her books of her favourite author, Jane Austen. This is sooooooooo high school and juvenile that it really fitted the story, since they are in high school, lol. He thinks he's her mate too (like Ranger does) but doesn't want to make a move because he had sworn not to put any mate through the painful process of transitioning to wolf. Because many females die when they try to transition after they're bitten by a wolf, and he didn't want to risk it. Do I like him? Meh. I don't like or dislike him.

There's a huge secret about what Lexi is, since she has this scent that no one has ever scented before, and also since she's resistant to vampire compulsion, like shifters are, and has advanced healing, like shifters do, yet doesn't have the shifter sense of smell or hearing. By the end of the book, we still don't know what she is. Oh and let me say that it required HUGE suspension of disbelief that Galen could drain someone of the wolf bite venom because it's not like his fangs have filters that could strain out normal blood and only allow the venom to pass, is it????

I think this author has promise but the book needed a rewrite and better editing, and beta readers of various ages would likely be helpful as well. I'll read book 2 because I want to find out what Lexi is.

2 ⭐️’s- it was ok.

in all honesty, this book didn’t really make that much of an impression on me. it was nothing special/ nothing i haven’t seen before a dozen times over, and there were probably more things about this book i didn’t like vs i did, but there were barely any parts i HATED or even LOVED. it just... was. 🤷🏻‍♀️

in all honesty, it just wasn’t the book for me. there was nothing necessarily super bad about it- no gross non consensual situations, nothing glorifying abuse, no cheating etc but there was also nothing amazing about it.

this is a story you’ve probably read in some way before; a bunch of guys being drawn to a girl whom no one knows what she is, yada yada. the FMC was a total mary sue in several ways. i feel like the author just took a bunch of already written books/ tropes and mashed it all together. every part of this book i’ve read somewhere before in a different book. (i’ve read the foster girl running away trope, even the underage stripping to support herself trope, FMC who thought she was human but is some sort of rarity trope, honestly i could go on and on for the whole book)

that being said, i understand how/ why people like it. if it was my first time reading a book with this trope (or tropes...) i probably would’ve liked it more. however, it just seems kinda cliche to me now. i had to skim through several pages because they were uninteresting/ couldn’t hold my attention or were just kinda cringey. this book read more like a YA but with sexual situations, and at times the writing felt really juvenile. there also probably was no part of this book i couldn’t see coming from the beginning, and there were also a lot of characters introduced that i just felt was unnecessary. at times it was really hard to keep track of all the characters.

situations like this where i’m left feeling not particularly impressed or have any sort of feeling for the book in general are kinda rare for me, so at this point i’m not sure if i’ll be reading the next book.

as always, i encourage you to give it a try and form your own opinions. however, if you are like me and had several moments at the beginning where you weren’t sure if you wanted to continue, here is some advice– just stop like i wish i did. if you didn’t like it then, it doesn’t really get better.

Re-read Sept 2025

Re-read Feb 17th, 2025

Let's do this differently for once. I'll tell you what I liked about the book and then I'll tell you what I didn't like.

The story with solid, easy to follow, great work up and I just love the story. I love the female character. I love that she has a vulnerable side but she's a badass as well. I love the fact that she was raised in foster homes and spent a lot of time running. I love the fact that somebody noticed that she was different and decided to put her somewhere where she actually would be long. And I'm not happy because of how it ended. I'm hoping Beyond hope that there's a miracle and the person that gets sick lives but I'm not holding my breath.

Now judging by the reviews other people have left I have to address the elephant in the room.

The errors in this book make me think, or make me believe, that the author did not have a proof reader. Or an editor. Somebody to see how many freaking errors there were in grammar as well as misplaced words. Or missing words.

I understand now why authors have arc readers. So that they find things like all of these errors. And try to help the author fix them before they release their books.

I think Belle did a great job on this book, and I'm going to read the rest of the series because of this book, and I'm glad that I do read as many of these kinds of books so that way I know what she is trying to convey to her audience so then I understand those missing words or those misplaced grammar marks or so forth and so on.

I feel bad that a lot of the other reviewers wouldn't read the book because of those errors. I think they missed out. So I'm off to read book too. See you guys later LOL

The plot to the story was interesting enough to have me finish & actually move on to read book 2 to see what happens next after the cliff-hanger in book 1 (for some reason I'm surprised by this as there were enough faults to the book, I shouldn't have wanted to). The writing style was a bit awkward and immature. The main female character is 17 (about to turn 18 in a few months), which leads to the dilemma that it bordered between Y/A & N/A, though at times it was just adult (with all the FMC thinking about sex way too much), so it had a bit of an identity crisis for which direction it should go (Y/A, N/A, or Adult). Alexis/Lexi/Lex (the FMC) is an odd character, she goes from super street smart, living on her own on the run from Child Protective Services/Police/Foster situations, to becoming a wanton sexual thing once meeting some shifter guys, the change in about a weeks time is too drastic to be believable. It's showing her hormones took over her brain and now she needs males to take care of her cause she's lost all her street smarts. I don't know of many women who let hormones take over their brains to that degree. It definitely pulled me out of the story. The guys in her RH, are all childish, even the 300+ year old vampire teacher (that's just yuck in my mind). None of them came across as capable of more than a high school fling. Nothing to be all swoony over. So yea, I did go on & read book 2 before I wrote this review.

Y'all know how most number sequences flow or have some sort of pattern to them? Like 2, 4, 6, 8.... and so on? Okay well this book started out with a consistent and well thought out plot, but then the heroine's personality went 2, 4, 6, 8, to 1584561894165..... Like dude.... I didn't even know who I was reading about anymore. It's like a week of male attention made this girl completely change into someone else. What happened to the scared and overly cautious chick from the beginning? The runner? Who is this chick that only thinks of how aroused she is ALL THE TIME. We never learned why she was running. We never learned anything about how she came to be. We never learn how she was able to put herself into school without transcripts and parental permission. I am at a complete loss. And do not even get me started on the men or actually BOYS in her life. My goodness they were pansy asses. Even the vampire who was supposedly 300 something years old. The dude is like preying on a 17 year old chick. Like dude chill.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Lexi's character was very well written and she is very intriguing and mysterious. All of her to-be mates are also hot and alluring. Though, if you asked me, I would normally say that 4 mates is an overkill. But in this case, all her mates make sense and bring different emotions and feelings into this story. If that was not enough, there is an M-M possibility with Galen and Mav's connection. I can't wait to see what happens next. Who/what is Lexi ? I have a feeling Raff is so much more than a puny red wolf. I wonder what will happen when he is 18. What about Galen and Mav? I need "Blood Moon" in my hands right now ?

I would definitely recommend this book to all paranormal lovers.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I love this style of pastoral writing so I’m a bit biased in my review here. If you’re looking for an action or drama packed book, this ain’t it. The story is very much a day to day progression of events, everything develops slowly (plot, relationships, characters). There is a lot of plot set up and foreshadowing, but nothing really major happens in the book. There is a big event at the end and a cliffhanger, but it didn’t stress me out. I liked the characters and I liked the paranormal development. I was sad when I got to the rating page and realized book two wasn’t out yet (I was ready to start it right away)

I listened to the audiobooks for free. And I listened to all three. I would not have read all three books.

****spoilers for all three books******

some themes seemed really interesting but they were only mentioned once and then never spoken of again.
some of the plot was really intriguing and it was enough for me to keep listening. But
the fmc is only 17 years old, that is so incredibly young. especially for the kind of relationship that she is forming.
It doesn't make it any less disturbing if you wait until the day of the 18 birthday before you fuck her she is still a child and you a grown ass man.

Lexi is place is foster care after foster care until she is place with a man and his fosters sons. She smells odd to all of them and that is because they are unsure of what she is. The boys are all wolves, and her teacher is a vampire and neither have many females. All the boys want to mate with her. She finds herself attracted to one foster boy whom got moved in the same time as her. They nlboys are marking her clothes to mark her. When she starts a relationship with 1 the others let her know it's okay to be with more. So that's what she starts thinking about. Maybe 2 wolf's would be okay and a vampire. Or maybe 3 wolf's. That it that's all the story. No sex just alot of flirting

Well… Bite Me!

Bite Me! Holy Rabies this book was a trip! Roller coaster of feels causing the best sort of literary whiplash. Finished in under 24hrs because I needed to know. Every character is exceptionally unique to themselves and leave imprints both good and bad (as warranted for a good book). The story and plot is so wonderfully woven and really “claims” you start to finish. I’ll immediately be diving headfirst into book two because WARNING CLIFF HANGER.. Big Time so with that… I’m off to read Book 2 - Brava

*Spoiler Alert*
After losing her parents & spending most of her life in & out of foster care and homes Alexis - Lexi (FMC) ends up getting put in an all boys home. New home, New School and a whole host of complications which include a bad boy loner -Rafferty, A hot headmaster - Galen & brothers Ranger & Maverick. As well as being the centre of attention for the male population of her new school except she cant work out why? I absolutely loved this first book in this series. Lexi is a great character taking no nonsense from anyone & delivering plenty of sarcasm when needed. Just Brilliant

Liked another series by this author. This is off to a good start. FMC foster kid runaway is caught and taken to a new home in Washington. She attends school when everyone stares and strange things happen. She is unaware most are shifters and while she is not a shifter she is also not a human. The community wants to know what she is. So many Twilight vibes and references LOVE IT‼️💯🔥🥰❤️

Great Read

This was a great read. Interesting characters, intriguing and mysterious plot, brilliant flow and a bit of steam. I do feel that this could definitely benefit with a really thorough proof read and a little more depth to the characters, although the characters have room to grow in the next instalments.
