Convicted: A Scientist Examines the Evidence for Christianity

Rate this book
Few scientists are willing to uncover the problems with evolution. Fewer still will boldly reveal the evidence that exists for the creation account. In this book Dr. Brad Harrub blows the lid off of the usual evolutionary dogma! This neuroscientist boldly details the evidence that exists for Christianity. Having walked through the halls of academia Dr. Harrub knows first hand the evolutionary icons and indoctrination practices used in the classroom. He has turned his scientific training against the very evolutionary theory that many defend as their own religion. This is a comprehensive book begins with the question of whether or not there is a God--using arguments of logic and reason to prove His existence. It is an excellent tool to teach why we believe what we believe. The book was professionally laid out, and was printed in full-color throughout. It contains multiple pictures, graphs, and tables to make it easy to understand. Not only does this resource cover the foundational principles like the existence of God, inspiraiton of the Bible, the deity of Christ, and creation vs. evolution, this book also covers topics that have received very little attention--many of which are issues that many Christians struggle with. For instance, this book also discusses worldviews, the Ice Age, radiocarbon dating (in an easy to understand format) and the question of distant starlight and time. The author "After years of careful and deliberate study and research, there is one thing I know for certain. Not only am I convinced... I'm convicted!" Brad Harrub, Ph.D.

Decent book, seen better.
Harrub's book is lightweight eye candy. Although he has some good information, it is undermined by the wealth of bad information and bad arguments in the book. Many of the chapters seem to have been ripped off from his articles published in other sources, which isn't good. If a book is just rehashing stuff that's already been in print before, it calls the author's ability into question. Although he appears to be a competent scientist, many of the other chapters in the book aren't really well done, such as the chapter on the problem of suffering. It's pretty easy to tell the material he doesn't have a good grasp of, because he uses old examples that many readers would see as reflecting a lack of study. In the wide world of apologetics books, this one is closer to the bottom shelf than most.

Have you always been taught that evolution is a fact? Did you ever consider that some of the information you were taught just didn't make sense? Did you consider that many of the beliefs of evolution violated standard scientific truths? Have you wondered how the Bible account could be true? This book will address these questions.

There are many scientists who believe that evolution does not explain the world we see around us nor does it explain the unseen world revealed only by telescopes, microscopes, etc. They believe the vast complexity of just DNA could not just happen by chance. These scientists believe in intelligent design to explain the complexities. Many of these scientist are not religious, but are led to believe in intelligent design because that is where the evidence takes them.

However, the author of this book, Brad Harrub, is both a scientist and a Christian. He shows convincingly that the Biblical account of creation is accurate and the evidence is clearly revealed in science. He looks at the problems with Darwinian evolution, explores dinosaurs and when they lived, the evidences leading to confirmation of the Bible and evidence for a young earth.

Dr. Harrub has a Ph.D. in anatomy and neurobiology from the University of Tennessee, so he knows what he is talking about. He says, "After years of careful and deliberate study and research, there is one thing I know for certain. Not only am I convinced, I'm convicted." Read this book and see if you will be convicted too.

For a Christian looking to give answers and evidence for their faith in a world that is becoming more and more skeptical, the resources to assist in this effort are few and far between. There is however one such resource that every Christian should own in order to aid in their study. That resource is Convicted: A Scientist Examines the Evidence for Christianityby Dr. Brad Harrub, PhD. In this wonderful book, Dr. Harrub stares down modern science and tackles it with both Biblical evidence and scientific proofs. Dr. Harrub rips the secular and atheistic arguments for scientific fallacies from today’s textbooks and mainstream media and weighs them against the facts and truths found not only in scripture, but in well-documented, lab-coat wearing, scientific labs. This book grabs the reader and shouts out “YOU ARE BEING LIED TO!!!” There is evidence for Christian beliefs and values and in this excellent book, much of it is examined and laid out for the reader.

I really enjoyed this book although it took me a little while to finish it. While the science in this book is presented in the most simplistic fashion, for some this book may seem arduous at times. That being said, I still believe this book should become required reading for and Christian from the age sixteen and up.

A great book that hits on a broad-introductory spectrum of evidences for the validity of the Bible and the God described therein. This book would be a great starting place for anyone looking to defend Christianity. The end of each chapter includes recommended books to read on each subject, along with other sources that were used by the author.
