Sam McIntyre had it all. Brilliant surgical career. Wealth. The begrudging respect of the best in the profession. Everything except someone to share it with.
Terri Malone is young, beautiful and a bit naïve. So what if Sam is a little possessive, a little pushy? Sam knows more about the world, about life, than Terri does. Of course Sam is going to make most of the decisions.
They look like the kind of couple everybody envies. The big house. The fabulous weekend getaways. The fast track to marriage and a family. As far as anyone knows, everything is perfect. And Sam will do whatever it takes to keep it that way.
Pretty cool twist. Didn't see it coming. These characters are not very likeable, even the protagonist who is a doctor but gets all stupid and googly eyed over a hot young uneducated chick and then pays dearly. My heart bleeds. The 2 villains are just horrible, horrible people but the protagonist is just so dumb I was wishing they'd just finish him off already and get it over with. But it is suspenseful and I did enjoy it.
The book started out leading me to believe it was headed one direction, then branched. It branched another time or two and it wasn't always easy to keep up with all the branches -- the writing, the story-line, was very fast. Other authors would've fleshed it out more, though I wasn't sorry the pace was quick as I didn't want more detail. Then the ending was just surprising, and in a way that wasn't what I'd call satisfying. I would've given the book two stars toward the beginning, upped that to four by mid-way, then the ending settled back to three.
