She was hurt. I was exhausted with the distance between us. Yeah, Jase dropped what I was too eager to steal for my own. Imagine my surprise when Kinsley came willingly. *** A simple visit to his house - sure. I could enter the belly of the beast without being consumed by the chemistry we've battled ... right? Wrong. I thought he'd use coercion, cunning, calculation. Turns out, the one lying in wait, prepared to pounce, was me. Too bad I never asked myself what happens if we pass the point of no return, because we did, and life will never be the same.
I just read all five books straight through! Almost a thousand pages in two days, and am now insane! First of all, Ms. Layne, a new author to me is exceptional! This novel covers a rather short price of time, but her writing makes it feel so much longer due to the details, descriptive writing, amazing characters, which include naturally one amazing, abet somewhat naive heroine, and a hero who is at opposite end of the spectrum. But is Klive truly at the opposite, or a product of circumstances. Kinsley, and only child who sees what she wishes is completely awoken in the series. Some good, some heartbreaking. An only child who put up her pointe shoes and became the ultimate tomboy, and naturally a Daddy's girl. Not a bad thing, however this Daddy's girl isolates herself to the world around her, she simply prefers not to know, and is an ostrich in today's society. The series begins with a accidental meeting between Klive and Kinsley where Kinsley is not at her best. Klive ever the gentleman, leaves her feeling confused but with a way to protect herself. Two years later the story truly begins. From there till I type this, it's insinuations, manipulations, and so much Kinsley is not ready for, and Klive does his best to protect her from, but not all is at it seems. Kinsley begins to get a street experience into real life and it begins to steamroll. But again, the only conclusive thing I felt from this this far, these two individuals truly are in love, and absolutely need one another. So now, Ms. Layne, you left a teaser, WHAT'S NEXT, AND WHEN ... ???? THIS HAS BEEN AN EXCEPTIONAL READ! NEXT... !!!!!!!!!!!!
Slow burn! That was dark and hot! If you are going to start this book make sure you have a few days—it’s addictive...Steamy and delicious and you won’t want it to end and when it does you will wonder —WHEN is book 6 coming out?! Akin to needing to wait for the next season of your favorite show. Bitter sweet. Love series like this a total decadent treat. Can’t wait to see what happens next… hoping to see more of Mr K.
Wow! Take your vitamins and stock up with energy before picking up Lynessa Layne’s YA novel, Hostile Takeover, (#5 in her DCYE series.) The energy is certainly necessary to keep up with this novel’s main female character, Kinsley, as she runs from smoking bedroom scenes to her bartending job to college and her track commitments, to the beach and the dance floor. Every once in a while, she throws a restaurant into her life, as well. As has been true through the series, Kinsley struggles to define her love interest (or interests) while all of them actively pursue her. Does her heart belong to her bad-boy “pirate?” Or maybe to her best friend’s brother? Or his best friend, a policeman? And what about the DJ where she works—how will he fit into the picture? In this fifth novel, Kinsley appears more willing to step out independently and take risks—huge risks, actually. She struggles to define herself as a young woman not defined through a male, but it is here she still struggles. Additionally, her heart continues to tie her better judgment into knots. If you are a fan of explicit sexual scenes, including S&M, this novel will keep you turning the pages. The author’s smooth writing style and strong characterization/plot twists also tease the reader to want more. #6 is underway!
