This beautiful book changed my life. I was fresh out of college, living in a house full of boy musicians in Nashville. They couldn’t have cared less about what the house looked like. I happened upon this book during a break between shifts at a restaurant I was working at. I couldn’t afford to buy it but got it through the library. I devoured it I became bound and determined to have a beautiful home of my own as soon as possible. My career finally took off and I could buy all the books I wanted. I’ve since read more of Alexandra’s books and many other books on design. Her approach is the wisest I’ve seen. I highly recommend this book and Living a Beautiful Life. When you’re ready for more details, The Decoration of Houses is wonderful. Years later I finally got to meet her in Austin. I had read so many of her books I felt like I knew her. She is everything I imagined, a warm friend ready to share her wisdom with all. So read this book and the others. Your life will be sweeter for it.

This is another beautiful book! Her interest in color grew from attending art school, but she is also very interested in helping her readers find the emotional component of color so that they can use it effectively in decorating their spaces.

This sparked my creativity and did a great job with some of the basics, plus gorgeous photographs. I'll be moving at some point and decorating/painting rooms in a new home has me refining my tastes and becoming more conscious of what I like and why. This was a wonderful book!
