I've been going round & round in my head about how to write this review since Denise Wells is one of my very favorite authors because I had some issues with it. That doesn't mean I won't read her anymore because I certainly will, but the bottom line is the hero left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Jackson & Skylar were together for years as she stood by her man before his band took off, but he didn't seem to GAF about that since he dumped her when he got the opportunity to shine because he's a selfish man. His reasoning was BS, so I never warmed up to him, but of course, it got worse in my eyes. He decides that he wants her back after several years so off he goes to win her back, and I would have never forgiven him. He broke her heart, she's not moved on, and she didn't even make him work hard enough for a second chance in my eyes. Please understand this is only my opinion and/or personal preference, and despite my grievances, I read it in one sitting which is a testament to this author's talent so yeah, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I thought the book was well written but just couldn't root for the main characters. I loved Skylar but really thought she could've done better (sorry!) I just couldn't wrap my head around his reasoning for their break-up years ago, and how he thought it was a good thing because I swear my jaw just dropped and I wanted to kick him in the nuts! That being said, I read to the end because I wanted to see what would happen.

This was an ARC and my first book by Denise. At first, I wasn't sure I was going to like Jackson, but I eventually ended up liking him. When he first became a rock star, he broke the heart of his then girlfriend Skylar but never got over her. After reading the book and then finally understanding his reasoning behind what he did, it made me root for him. I really enjoyed the book and look forward to reading more of Denise's books.

Jackson is (now) a famous rockstar and Skylar is the girl whose heart he broke when he left five years ago. He realised that he made a big mistake and wants her back, but how will he do it? Every song he's written has been about her. He needs to come up with a big enough gesture to prove that he's serious.
Will he succeed?
Good characters and plotline made this an enjoyable way to spend a few hours reading.

This was a second chance at love rockstar romance.
Skylar Gray was Jackson James' girlfriend. She was broken hearted when he ended their relationship when his band started taking off and he wanted to focus on his career. She has never gotten over him. She is in NYC working on her PhD thesis in Comparative Literature.
Jackson James aka Jackson Wicked is the lead singer and songwriter for Wicked Blues. The band hit big with their first album and he has been touring non-stop for several years. He and the band decided to take two months off before going into the studio to record their next album and they go to NYC where his sister and her husband, Declan his best friend live. It will also give him a chance to try to find Skylar again because he realized he needs her in his life.
His sister Palmer is having a big Halloween bash at her husband's hotel and he goes to surprise them. Meanwhile Palmer had bumped into Skylar and invited her and her roommate Crystal to the party. Jackson goes to the party in a Big Head Bob costume sees Skylar and spends time with her. He doesn't speak knowing she will recognize his distinctive voice so he writes notes to get on his phone. She agrees to have dinner with him a few days later. Crystal overhears him talking to his sister and confronts him regarding Skylar. She agrees to help him connect with Skylar. At the restaurant they make eye contact, she panics, runs into a waitress and ends up wearing a test of water glasses. He runs to check on her and gets waylaid by fans. The connect for a few minutes but she makes a quick escape out a back door. She refuses to talk to him and goes away to a writer's retreat for several days. Jackson asks friends and family for ideas to get her back and they decide on a grand gesture. He goes on a tv interview show and announced he will wait for her in the Empire State Building until midnight hoping she will forgive him and take him back. She only finds out about his gesture afterwards and tries desperately to get in contact with him. She finally is able to get to his apartment and they reconcile. They get married, she goes on tour with them and the get their HEA.

This book is part of the Halloween party series. This is the longest one of the books in this series that I have read. That’s not to say it was long its only around 140 pages. It was more a complete book I think then the others. To me the others are like snap shots. I don’t know if that even makes sense. Jackson was Skylar’s first everything. Then he broke her heart when he broke up when his band made it big. Now five years later he is back to win her back. Skylar has spent those years trying and failing to get over Jacks. She doesn’t know what to do now that he is back and wanting to get back together. She has a hard time getting over seeing all Jacks with all those girls that don’t look anything like her through the years. She feels like he only wants her now that he has realized he isn’t going to find anything better out there. In a way that is what he did. But he broke up with her because he knew that he wouldn’t be able to resist the temptation that would be available to him with the new fame. Jacks needs to figure out how he can show Skylar that he is still in love with her. That he never stopped loving her. Skylar needs to figure out if she can give Jacks a second chance or if she will continue to try unsuccessfully to get over him. I really enjoyed this book. Rock star books usually aren’t my cup of tea but I enjoyed this book. The characters were wonderful. I would love to read about some of the other characters. Great job Denise.

This book — while oozing sex and the randy rock star— was really disappointing. The storyline had some potential, but the characters really stank. Jackson Wicked was nothing but a spoiled rock star, and Skylar Gray had no backbone at all. So weak! To be honest, this book was hard to finish it was so dumb! Ugh! You’ll have to decide on your own whether this book is worth your time! (I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book and was beyond disappointed at how awful it was in my opinion!) 🫤

Once I was able to, I dove right into Skylar and Jackson’s story. I love a good second chance, redemption story. These two have so much love, but when push comes to shove you have to let go and hope one day if it’s meant to be, it happens. Well I rooted hard for Jackson and loved his determination. Its wicked awesome and makes for a great afternoon read with a drink.

This is part of the AB Shared World series talk about second chances each book can be read as a standalone with a sexy guy and the girl who steals their heart. Jackson sexy as all get out lead singer, worldwide sex symbol, had his share of drugs, alcohol, and women but yet there is still a gaping whole where his heart is supposed to be with all the money, fame, anything he could desire yet he is just as lonely and depressed knowing deep down the reason he was so lonely missing his first and only love but the way he left her well it going to take a lot to win her back. Skylar intelligent, hurt, in love with the man who was her first everything and he took all she gave him stomped on it, threw it away the moment he became famous. He threw her away, forgot about her or so she thought yet every song he wrote was about her in some way and their most popular song was written for her. Now that the stardom has worn off he knows he wants what they had so showing up at his sister’s party in hopes of seeing her but never did he think it would happen at the bar or that the costume he worn gave him a slight advantage she thought she was talking to a guy named Bob and he played along with it until it was time for the truth to be revealed boy once it was she needed a break from it all leaving him to take some time to think what she wanted or even if she could trust him again, will she give him that second chance, will they make it as a couple or will her heart not allow it, will he show her that he is capable of handling her heart again, that he won’t throw it away as he did before, show her that he has grown into the stardom, and can they find happiness the second time around?

Jackson Wicked were do I start he's vain and a self envolved Rockstar who after 5 years realizes he made a major mistake after the 1st year of living the high life with booze, flozies and drugs that the girlfriend he left behind was his one true love. Skyler it took awhile to get past her pain and humiliation that her ex delt her shes getting on with her life finishing college she's moved on or so she thinks.
Jackson has limited time to get back his girl and one harmless little lie at a Halloween party won't hurt anyone face palm Jackson you are in so much trouble.
Sky a Halloween party with friends seemed like a good idea then she meets a nice guy to bad his costume was awful she couldn't even see his face he was just bobble head Bob man is she gonna be mad when she finds out what Jackson did.
So do they get there second chance well I'm not sure Jackson deserves it but after he gets humiliated in front of millions which he kinda deserved yah they get there HEA.
This is a quick rom-com with not much heat until the end of the story it flowed well with only a few word errors but this was and ARC and sometimes that happens as it's unedited. My biggest issue I didn't really feel much for either character except annoyance at Jackson and his attitude and Sky she made things way to easy on him in the end so im giving this book 3.4 stars. I was allowed to read and advance copy of this book via HiddenGems and this is my honest review.

Second Chance Rock Romance
This is the first time reading this author and I have to say that I’m hooked. It was a book that pulled a lot of different emotions from me as far as not at all liking the spoiled rock star who just before their big rise to stardom broke off with the girl he supposedly loved because he knew he wouldn’t be able to resist temptation. Skylar was the woman he left behind brokenhearted and now five years later he comes back into her life.
Their first meeting again is one of deception but the now Jackson is trying to set things right with Skylar. The “grand gesture” he makes only leaves him looking the in the bottom of a bottle.
I have to say that I was drawn into this book wondering if the rock star who finally realized what was important was going to get his girl. As much as I didn’t like Jackson at first by the end, I was rooting for he and Skylar to find their HEA. I can’t wait to read more of the band in upcoming books.

Ok, so I wanted to like this book. Guy with dreams makes it big, leaves his girl behind, then realizes he loves her and wants her back. I could go with that...IF Jackson wasn't such a whining selfish twat. From beginning to end, it was all about him. Even his 'grand gesture' was all for him and not about what Skylar wanted and needed. When it didn't work out like he planned, instead of taking his licks like an adult, he sits around feeling sorry for himself and drowns himself in alcohol. I'm sorry, but I couldn't like him, and Skyler was just his doormat. Take him back after he jokes about all the women he's had and mourning that they just don't satisfy him anymore? No, thank you. Run, Skyler, Run, and don't look back.

This was a short fast paced story. I would have liked a longer story. The shortness does an injustice to the characters. We don’t get to know them or connect with them. In this context, they aren’t likeable. With that being side, I was able to overlook this. I was able to read between the lines to realize he made the best decision he could have at the time considering his age and etc. They both needed time to grow especially Jacks. I commend him for that. What really made me love him was, he admitted to his made mistakes and accepted that responsibility. That earned my respect. This is my reason for the four star review. I’m glad they were able to reach their HEA. Doesn’t mean they don’t have lots to work through in the future the to make it work. I was left wanting to read more of this couple and the rest of the group! Loved the ending!

3.75 - 4 stars.
This has been an up and down read for me because at times I wasn't sure that I liked Jackson! He owned his actions and decisions but it did annoy me slightly that this was yet another story where the hero gets to go off and do whatever he wanted until he decides that he wants the heroine back in his life. In saying that, Skylar really did love him, and in the end she showed that she understood him and accepted him for who he was. There was no denying they had chemistry and connection and they were what the other wanted, their HEA was good and I loved the interaction between the band and what they got up to on the tour bus. I am voluntarily leaving this review after receiving an ARC.

There is a lot of humor in their first meeting, which is accidental and also incognito as Jackson’s Halloween costume disguises his face, but his texting intrigues Skylar.
There’s lots of humor and humility written into the story. And after completely humbling (and humiliating) himself in the most public of ways, there is a true reconciliation and happy ending.
Five years later, as Jackson realizes life on the road isn’t all he wants anymore, he makes an effort to find skylark and rekindle what they once had.

An okay second chance romance.
A romance that I liked some parts and didn't like others. The characters made decisions I found myself questioning. I did want the female lead to be a stronger character; I wanted her to make better decisions for herself at certain points at the story. Also, it was hard to feel sympathy for the male lead at points as well. Scenes within Chapter 31, for me personally, I didn't like the tropes. However, there was chemistry between the two leads.

Short but OH SO SWEET <3

I'm not normally into second chance romance. That is probably because it usually too close to home but never the happy ending. But this book! OMG the irony it in was so entertaining! I was glad the false identity bit ended early because I hate that trope. All in all, it had a great pace and was a nice short read <3
Sugar and Spice®
The romance is good. Its fast because neither one was over the other but it was still good. The spice, I'd give it a 3/5. There isn't a lot of spice since the book is like 150 pages but its decent enough to enjoy!

Jackson was okay but I didn’t feel like his motives for wanting Skyler back were genuine. It very much felt like he was trying to get her back because he was tired of the rockstar life and not because he truly loved her. Skyler was a little to mild mannered for my taste. She should have given Jackson far more hell than she did.
Overall, it wasn’t a bad book. I personally just didn’t connect with it.

What a fantastic read. Jackson & Skylar’s story is a true second chance romance & the author has done a fantastic job of blending their past with the present. Skylar is still reeling emotionally from their breakup 5 years ago & now has Jackson saying he wants her back.

Jackson and Skylar were so in love with each other before his band took off. But then he decides to end their relationship because he will be on tour and he's not sure he can be faithful. When he comes back to his senses and realizes he can't live without her, what will he do to get her back? Can he get her back and they find their happily ever after? Loved this book. Can't wait to read more from Denise Wells.

I thought the premise of the story was really good. I was really into the story until the end.
The whole 'grand gesture' was way over the top and comes off as incredibly selfish and all about him. Jackson comes off as an entitled pretty boy who only decides he wants Skylar back once he's finished playing with his other 'toys' and gets bored.
You never feel like he's completely genuine. And I felt that the sex scene in the end was really disgusting.
No, I cannot say I would recommend this book until you're really into erotica.

It was a great read! The only issue I had was towards the end I felt it was rushed. I thought Sky would have gone slow and got to know who Jacks was after being apart for several years rather than bedding each other after she got back from her get away. Other than that I loved it! It was a quick read. Very detailed on certain areas. I would put it on my read again shelf.

Jackson Wicked thought he was doing the right thing when he broke up with Skylar five years ago. He has regretted his decision and is ready to fight for his second chance. Jackson was Skylar’s first and everything. He tore her heart apart when he left her to pursue his dream of making it big in a band. Now, he is back, and she will decide if there is anything left of her heart to give to him.
Love the writing and the storyline. The characters work well together. The loyalty of friends and bandmates made me smile so much. Quick, easy to get into and fun to watch these two battle it out.

I’ve always loved Denise books and thought I should read this one. I’m not big on Halloween nor on rock stars but this wasn’t too bad. I like how the story played out and the way it ended. It’s not really Halloween related but with the costume theme I think that was my favorite part.

I received this book through a giveaway. I found the plot to be fun and an enjoyable second chance romance with one of the parties having become a famous rockstar. I did feel like certain parts went on for too long but overall a quick and enjoyable read for the afternoon.

In this story, Jackson Wicked is a rock star who ditched his girlfriend Skylar way back when he was about to hit it big and go on his first tour because he wasn't sure he would be able to stay faithful to her. It was certainly preferable to break up than cheat but it broke Skylar's heart and after a while Jackson realized that the groupies can't compare to the love and companionship he used to have with Skylar. There is some mixed messaging about how long it's been since he decided he wants her back, either it's been several years or some months. All his songs are about her, and apart from naming his albums after her, he couldn't have made it much clearer but Skylar hasn't been able to figure this out. When Jackson meets Skylar again at a Halloween party he is able to woo her incognito because she can't see his face behind his mask. Then they chat by text and he still won't tell her it's him, for fear she'd tell him to shove off, and it's a reasonable fear because who would like being catfished? In the end he makes a grand gesture but it goes a bit wrong because the talk show host is right, Jackson is a bit of a horse's ass.
There is a sex scene that hits me the wrong way because in his mind it's more about anger and punishing her than love and relief of getting her back. But I wasn't there and she finds it hot so I guess it doesn't matter what I think.
I was entertained by this story despite the problems with the hero.
