Firehouse 13 #7

Devastated by Fire: Firehouse 13

Rate this book
Devastated by Fire is book 7 of Firehouse 13, a 12 part series releasing throughout 2022, but it can be read as a standalone.

Liam

Womanizer. Player. Manwhore.

They're all titles I've leaned into over the last few years.

But, I'm finally settled, working as a volunteer firefighter alongside my best friend, and being a part time EMT; I have it all. At least on paper.

The thing nobody knows, is that I'm a liar. A fraud. A fake.

Hiding my sexuality behind a smokescreen has become second nature, and it's not good. Especially when feelings start creeping up for someone they shouldn't be.

Greg

Serving as a police officer in the local Sheriff's office is exactly where i'm meant to be. I'm the gay police officer, and I'm comfortable enough in myself not to be ashamed of it.

Sparks fly when the local firefighter crosses my path, but with his reputation, it's clear to see he's not ready for more.

Friends by day, lovers by night, but how long can it stay that way? Am I enough for him to start a life together with, or am I just a fun phase that he will soon get tired of?

3 sweet fire stars

It's the first book I've read from this series - and the only M/M romance it seems. Maybe it's because it was very short, but I felt something was missing. This book had so much potential: a nice couple, a good work environment, some great side characters. But it missed the mark in my case. I really don't think it's because L. James is mostly a M/F romance writer! I guess the writing just didn't appeal to me... I'd still recommend it for people who want a very sweet and supportive couple story.

so ... this is my first book by this author and in this series and somehow I think it is not meant to be read as a stand-alone.

it is a love story, yes ... but not as one would expect. we come into the story when Liam and Greg already are together. not long, but definitely together.

this novella tells the story about how Liam finally manages to come out to his family and friends to be together with Greg. One thing, which stood out for me was, that Liam was afraid to come out but did not hesitate to be open with Greg in public. that was a bit confusing at times

I loved that Greg was so supportive but I really, REALLY would have loved to see how they came together.

all in all a nice story

an ARC was provided by GRR and I am happy to give my honest opinion

Liam and Greg ❤️

4 Stars ⭐️

My only complaint about this book...it was to short!!! This couple was so solid, I adored Greg's patience and understand with Liam, in turn Liam showed Greg bravery and willingness to prove just how important Greg was to him. The emotion and love between these two men was so apparent, the sweetness and spice were on point. I only wished I could have experienced more of the road to their HEA. I would recommend this read even though it kept me wanting more of these men!

This is a well written book with strong characters and a sweet MM romance. One is a policeman and the other is an EMT who wants to be a fireman. Both work forces where it's sometimes frowned upon for homosexuality. One is out while the other is not comfortable doing so yet. It's an emotional story with perfectly painted scenes and I enjoyed reading.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.

a bit of a disappointment

This is a very short read. It is part of a larger series but is the only mm to date. The book wasn’t anything special. It had the bones for so much more. I wish the author had expanded on just about every part of the book.

Liam is a firefighter and a lifelong womanizer. Then, one day he met Gregg, and everything felt right. However, Liam battles with reconciling the past with the present. Nevertheless, Gregg is a patient man who believes Liam is worth the wait.
This story is a shortie and a goodie - a cop and a firefighter/EMT; what a delicious combination.
The tale is told in the first person – mainly from the viewpoints of Liam and Gregg, with an odd chapter thrown in from Liam’s best friend, Aiden. For the majority, world-building is limited to home and work, which is appropriate for the length of the story. It also stays focused on the job at hand, which can be challenging to achieve in any work of fiction, so kudos to the author there.
The relationship that Liam and Gregg have is lovely and beautifully written. Liam is a man who has heard horror stories about coming out, and given that Gregg is his only male relationship, Liam is understandably anxious. A hefty percentage of the story is dedicated to how, when and who he should come out to and the resulting reactions. The emotions of this process leapt off the page and were an emotional delight to read.
As for their intimate interactions, there are explicit sexual scenes, but for the majority, they fade out, which I found refreshing. Too many stories let sex take over instead of letting the story shine. This story had a superb balance between the two allowing the story to do its thing.
Of course, given the title and the first responder backdrop of the story, I was given a superb view of life within the fire and police station. And yes, there are high-octane times too.
Devastated by Fire is a snippet of a few months in the life of Liam and Gregg, and apart from the blurb being more of a prologue and the story finishing a touch abruptly, I think it’s as close as it gets to being perfectly balanced. It contains a range of scenes from snuggling, tears, a variety of anxious times, and the heart in mouth – all in good proportions.
Lizzie James is a best-selling author. However, this is the first time I’ve read one of her books. I’m sure it won’t be the last. Her style and content are right up my street.

I absolutely loved reading this story! Such a tearjerking moment for me. I actually cried reading this one section because it was sooooo endearing. I absolutely understood what one character was going through! Just won’t spoil the surprise for y’all who haven’t read the story. A spicy romance between a volunteer firefighter and a police officer is made in heaven and made to be read! It’s like a mash-up between 911 - Lone Star and Station 19 with hot MCs! Definitely more than 5 stars for me with this!!! Would be great as a movie or a TV movie.

The story focuses on Liam, the firefighter and Greg, the police officer. Liam isn’t out to his peers at the fire station, much less his best friend, Aiden who is straight. In the meantime, Greg is out with his peers at the police station. As they navigate through trying to hide their love for each other whenever Greg goes to the fire station for any particular reason related to work or if Liam left something at Greg’s pad. I’m going to stop there because the story gets more intense and endearing. I’d encourage you to pick up the book to read and find out what happens.

This novella is the definition of short and sweet!

If you're looking to read as a couple meets, falls for each other, goes from hooking up to real relationship, etc. then fair warning, this is not for you. A couple of pages into the book, you learn that are MCs have already been seeing each other for a few months. Instead of focusing on getting together, this book is about navigating coming out and solidifying their relationship. (Personally - that's what made it lose a star for me. Even though it's billed as a standalone, I felt sort of lost).

I really loved the communication between these two and the way they supported each other. They had a lot of sweet moments, and a very steamy one, and showed what falling in love looks like. The book was just long enough to add in a little drama and get you invested but was still a great read for a single sitting.

I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my honest review.

Devastated by fire what a read. I loved reading about Liam and Greg and how they blossomed into the couple they are. Liam is so cute. I wanted to hug him so hard several times during this read. Hiding who you are is something no one should ever do. I hate that Liam felt he needed to do that from the people he cares most about. Greg is there for every emotion Liam feels. His support is unwavering and makes me happy for them both. The trials and truma that goes on in this story will tug at your heartstrings I know it did mine.

This MM romance is book 7 in a series of books that share the same world. All of the book I believe can be read as stand alones but are best read in order for the best experience.

Lizzie James writes some excellent stories. I have read them all and would highly recommend this author.

What a wonderful read. The author gave us readers a touching story full of laughs, romance, heartache and beautiful touching moments in time. Oliver has always wanted to be a firefighter since he was a kid. So when he was able to become a part-time firefighter/EMT in his home town he was beyond happy, even when the other guys, including his best friend Ray, often gave him a hard time, as he was the rookie of the group. They even teased him about his good looks and playboy lifestyle. But something inside him changes when he meets Wyatt, the local cop working on an arson case. He’s wildly attracted to the man but just doesn’t understand why or what’s going on. This is a beautifully written romance as two men find one another and help each other become everything they are truly meant to be.

I can’t recommend this book enough. Kudos Ms. James, I loved it!!!

(3.5 Stars)

While this is book seven in the series, this can be read as a standalone. We have Wyatt, a police officer, and Oliver the EMT/firefighter. Wyatt is out and proud while Oliver is just having a hard time with the fact that Wyatt is able to hold his interest. When Wyatt finally makes the move and invites Oliver to coffee, Oliver accepts, but makes it very clear that no one can know. The more time they spend together, the more Oliver falls for Wyatt. But he's afraid to lose the little family he has made, Oliver isn't ready to take that next step, the step that lets everyone know just who his man is. Is Wyatt willing to wait? This was an ok GFY story, I do feel like there was a disconnect somewhere, it felt like something was missing from the story. We get a bit of drama, and naughty bits, that read more clinical than hot. I give this 3.5 stars.

Liam is volunteer firefighter and has reputation of a womanizer, but that is so far from the truth. When he meets Greg he knows he is special but no one knows the truth about him, including his best friend, Aiden. Greg is comfortable being gay and ready for more with Liam, but he knows that Liam is not ready to take their relationship public. Greg is fine with waiting for him but the stress of keeping secrets is starting to weigh heavily on Liam.

Greg is such a great character, he willing for Liam to set the path even though he wants so much more. Liam is more in his head about others will think than what he really sees. I loved this story, you just wanted to hug Liam.

This is the 7th book in this amazing series, and this is Liam and Greg’s journey. Liam is a player and womanizer, who is a volunteer firefighter alongside his best friend, and is a part time EMT. Greg is a police officer at a local sheriff’s office, and he is comfortable in himself to admit that he is gay. The sparks fly between Liam and Greg, but Liam hides his sexuality behind a smokescreen, but Greg is prepared to bide his time until Liam can finally stop hiding the truth. This is a well written story which is an emotional roller coaster, with secrets, intrigue, fun, and love, which lead to an endearing page turner.

I really liked this story. Liam, wanted to be a firefighter ever since he was a small child. It is who he is. It is what he is. Right now, he's a part time volunteer firefighter/EMT. He was afraid of coming out, so he stayed a volunteer and kept a low profile. Greg, is a police officer who is a few years older than Liam out and proud. They are having a 'fling' that means something to both, but keep it on the downlow. Greg, is patient and willing to wait until Liam comes out. How long will he be willing to wait? Can Liam get over his fear? Is there a tipping point for Greg? Great story, absolutely realistic! Good side characters, nice flow. I felt like Greg and Liam were real men. Well done! This is the most sweet story in MM romance that I have read so far. I'm a fan of dark, forbidden, enemies to lovers romance fan. But this book has the potential to grab attention. It's a sweet story of Wyatt (the officer) and Oliver (the firefighter) who fell in love with each other at first sight. They have their own jealous moments but not in an extreme sense or toxic way but more like you-are-mine-and-the-world-should-know way and the story is at the peek caring level when it comes to Wyatt taking care of Oliver. Their chemistry is amazing, their way of understanding and supporting each other is endearing. If you want a sweet small town romance with low angst and two guys falling head over heels for each other then this is probably for you.

I really enjoyed Liam and Greg's story. Greg works for the police force in Armstrong and Liam is a volunteer firefighter/EMT in the same town, hoping for a full-time firefighter position to open up. Liam and Greg are together, but Liam is not out, and although he is surrounded by good friends and a loving mom, Liam is worried about losing everyone and the opportunity for a permanent job if he comes out. While there are ups and downs, this coming-out story is sweet, low-angst, and sexy. The supporting characters are also pretty strong. I only wish the ending was a bit more drawn out.

Living With Choices . . .

Liam is a known player who works as a volunteer firefighter and a part-time EMT. Greg is a police officer who is comfortable with his sexuality and openly admits he is gay. The two of them are absolutely attracted to each other, but Liam is concerned about what his friends will think and not ready to acknowledge his sexuality.

Greg is patient, supportive, willing to wait for Liam to step up and stop hiding his real feelings. But there comes a time when Greg needs to know if they can have a life together or if Liam is just playing a game. How will Liam decide? When will he be ready to choose the life he wants?

Liam and Greg are both interesting characters in intense careers, and they fit together well. Rather than focusing on the complete arc of their relationship, this story lets us see them in a pivotal moment, when one is navigating what it means to come out and the other is supporting his love interest with patience and grace: this is a quick read, full of feeling, and it does work as a standalone, although readers familiar with the rest of the series will probably be a bit more immersed in the setting and surrounding crew than I was. All in all, an enjoyable read.

Devastated by fire. by Lizzie james

Aiden and Liam are best friends but see each other more as brothers, they work together they are both part time ENTs and firefighters,
Greg is the local cop who always pops into the fire station. Liam has a secret and has been sneaking about behind his best friend back. When he picks up the courage to tell he doesn't get the reaction he thinks he will get. It's a nice short read.

A SHORT SWEET READ!

A short, sweet read about a volunteer fireman who is also a temporary EMT, who has a secret relationship with an officer who is out and proud and willing to wait for his lover to step out of the closet.

Liam Black is afraid to tell his best friend Adain that officers Greg Bristow is his boyfriend and this leads to the unthinkable happening…..

A sweet coming out short story with a bit of angst to fan the flames!

A shorter book but filled with excitement. Interesting characters with exciting jobs. The drama is there to level out the romance but together they give you a good reading. Their journey has already began as you start the book and it only intensifies as you read. Some timidity in the announcement of the seriousness of relationship and some fear of the acceptance adds an additional element but soon a HeA follows and the book closes on a high note, quite pleasingly. This a comfortable, quick read about a firefighter, Liam, who’s recently gotten into a relationship with a man, Greg, a cop who he often has to work with. However, Liam isn’t ready to come out to his friends and family, so keeping things a secret causes tension with his best friend. Luckily Greg is fantastic and doesn’t mind at all that Liam needs time to come out, and when things finally implode, he’s there for Liam. Cute story that I only wish had started at that first meeting. I love that whole “when our eyes first met” moment.

This had lots of potential. I did like Oliver and Wyatt. I especially liked Wyatt's attitude towards Oliver and the fact how big are the thoughts and feeling he's going through.
To me reading experience did suffer from repeatedly occuring typos even thought little ones but when there's quite a lot of them it does slow that flow when you're into the story.
I also felt like the changes one character goes through in the book didn't make sense and it was little disappointing.

This is a lovely novella. Oliver and Wyatt knew what they wanted, but Oliver had to come to grips with being with a man. He was so afraid of losing his job as a firefighter because of it. He had a lot of thinking to do, decisions to make. Wyatt had to be patient until Oliver was ready to come out to his friends and family. There’s always danger in being either a firefighter or police officer, and that’s another thing the guys had to consider.
There were some inconsistencies in my copy, but it was an earlier ARC. It was still a good read, and I’m sure the final text was even better!

This is a low-angst love story between men who work in fields where homosexuality is often viewed as a problem. The policeman is willing to acknowledge the relationship but the EMT who wants to be a fireman is not ready. Add the dangers each face every day in their jobs and the tension with coworkers, and you have a nice bubbling pot of emotions. Good storyline.

A low-angst story that speaks of the love between a cop and a firefighter. Take the hesitancy of coming out in a profession where being gay is viewed as a negative, the dangers that both men are in every day in their line of work, and the opinions of those who they are surrounded by day in and day out, then add in a dice of incredible storyline, and you're in for one hell of a ride. I was hooked from the first word.

An interesting love story

I have some fixed feelings about this but overall I enjoyed it. Liam and Greg were sweet together even though they had their struggles. I think my main issue is that the story was very short. It felt rushed and underdeveloped as a result. However, I liked the concept and the general plot and whilst it did feel like it needed more throughout I still enjoyed reading Liam and Greg as characters and there was definitely an emotional core to the book.

This was a short read but i enjoyed the story! Our main leads are a EMT/firefighter and a police man. One is out while the other isnt so that is the main focal point about this story. I thought Greg and Liam were sweet and a great match but i wish we had a little bit more of them ! I definitely would be interested in a intro story about them! Despite that this was still a good read nonetheless so i give this 4 stars!
