Born blind and declared incurable after a series of childhood operations, Meir Schneider remained convinced that his disability was not permanent. As a teenager he began to work with teachers who gave him exercises to reverse his blindness. Within four years he gained a remarkable degree of vision, and began developing a system of therapeutic exercise combining movement, breathing, and mental imagery. When he began working with others, miraculous recoveries ensued.Movement for Self-Healing details Schneider's methods of stimulating the natural healing powers of the body, with specific guidelines for improving vision, back problems, arthritis, multiple sclerosis, breathing, and muscular dystrophy.
Amazing. Meir Schneider tells the incredible story of his blindness, the people who helped him and his miraculous journey to healing his vision. He leads others who have severe and chronic illnesses to heal in various ways. After treatment and doing the exercises he and his team assigned them, many have lead functional lives and he has even helped some people to walk again. Highly recommend.
The author of this book was an Israeli Jewish man who was born nearly blind. By using the Bates method of eye exercises (William Bates was an American optometrist), he was able to greatly improve his vision.
He then became a massage therapist and became interested in various types of exercise movement therapies--Feldenkrais, yoga. He then moved to San Francisco in America.
He was able to cure or greatly help people who had supposedly incurable diseases like muscular dystrophy and multiple sclerosis--through massage therapy and various exercise therapies.
I find this book interesting just as an autobiography.
For anyone who has vision problems which might be helped with the Bates exercises or who has MS which might be helped through massage or exercise techniques, this would be a great read.
It is one out of like three books which if I am ever really depressed or upset, when I read it, it makes me feel a lot better.
The thing I find interesting about this book more than anything is here is a guy who is curing supposedly incurable diseases-and this has been verified--and yet most people don't know about it. What does this say about the scientific establishment or the whole medical establishment in America!!
I really think this is one of the most interesting books I have ever read.
This book is inspirational (the author's story and all of his clients' stories) and provides concrete how-to information that is easy to follow and utilize. My 70-something year old chiropractor loaned me his copy after telling me that he used Meir's methods to heal his eyesight and not need glasses. That intrigued me enough to be open to how the book might help me. I loved the book so much I've bought copies for others to give as gifts as I think this book could help many people, if they are open to it. I strongly recommend it.
The writing and flow were a little choppy but the core message of … your body can heal itself given the right environment…was inspiring and powerful. Many will find this book too woohoo and it can be if you take it to an extreme. It is however worth digesting the core concepts here about visualization, exercise, breathing and diet (integrative medicine) even if only as a supplement to western treatment.
