The Fairshaw Library: A Historical Fantasy Romance

Rate this book
Let the delightful banter between the poor but irresistible rogue and the wealthy, sharp-witted Victorian heiress pull you into a cozy fantasy world brimming with magical powers, steamy kisses, and enough sparks of attraction to run a small country.

An edge-of-your-seat cat hunt, a magical library shrouded in mystery, unlimited magical powers, and the scoundrel willing to sacrifice it ALL for the woman he loves. Victorian England, 1848: When the powerful Fairshaw Master dies, an ancient prophecy promises the title of Fairshaw, and Lady Adelaide Fairshaw's hand in marriage to the man who can find the Fairshaw Cat. The sharp-tongued Lady Adelaide is far from a proper lady and cares little for society's expectations that she, as an unmarried woman, must obey the wishes of her dead father. She has no desire to sit around, draped in a starched, black mourning dress to wait for a stranger to catch a cat and force her into an arranged, loveless marriage.

But then she meets Frederick Holloway, the opportunistic dock worker determined to pull his sisters out of poverty, by whatever means necessary. Including climbing the wall to her window to convince her to help him find the Fairshaw Cat. Lady Adelaide is determined to hate the brazen scoundrel refusing to leave her alone. But soon their verbal sparring leads to love, and she begins to hope against hope that Frederick will be the man who finds the Fairshaw Cat after all. What happens to their forbidden love when another man finds the cat?

The Fairshaw Library is a stand-alone, enemies-to-lovers, cozy gaslamp fantasy romance set in a magical, but historically authentic, Victorian England with a scoundrel with a heart of gold, and a strong female heroine who knows so much better than to fall for him. For fans of British regency historical romance, victorian historical romance, clean & wholesome romance, and fairy tale fantasy romance.

Such a beautiful read, packed with magic, romance and even some suspense (the damn cat!).
Austin will easily become one of my favorite authors because her writing is exquisite, she puts in a lot of work to perfect it and the result is just stunning.

Randomly found this on hoopla and it was actually just what I was in the mood for! Really sweet romance and characters. Romance really reminded me of a far wilder magic (my favorite book) so that was an unexpected plus! The library setting was super interesting I would have loved to explore that more!

This has been on my TBR list for a while, and I'm so glad I finally got to read it! I bought it because I love the cover, so I honestly had no idea it was a fantasy/supernatural book.

Let me start by saying how much I appreciate that the author didn't take pages and pages and pages to explain what was going on--she jumped right into the story and dropped enough details along the way to help the reader catch up. I do wish, however, there had been a bit more explanation given on a few aspects of the community to really help me feel grounded in the setting.

Overall, though, it was such a unique concept with sweet relationships between the hero and his family. I appreciate the slightly off-color heroine and the rogue with a tender side hero. While there's magic in the story, it's part of the story and not the sole focus--this really is as much of a romance as it is fantasy.

A fun, easy read.

Rated PG for a few swear words.

Oh my goodness! How do I even start?? I ADORED this book, and will never stop recommending it, now! You know when you read an amazing book, and you're like, "This book will stay with me forever," that's what this book is for me! I have never read a book remotely close to The Fairshaw Library!

The characters were amazing, the plot was super amazing and unique, the romance was amazing, basically, EVERYTHING WAS AMAZING.

I 100000% recommend this to anyone and everyone, because this book WILL be a classic one day! I have complete faith that TFL will blow up and become the next big fantasy book!

Pretty decent read if you want a somewhat cheesy romance with a unique magical spin. The story was fairly unique and kept me interested. Some of the descriptions — and the world itself and it’s structure/magic — was a bit confusing, and some parts of the book felt incredibly repetitive. But it was still enjoyable.

Good story

This book had a unique premise and there were interesting twists throughout the story. I would have liked more development for the romance, but the book kept my attention while I was reading it.

I’m not a huge cat person but honestly the author’s note about “which man found a cat” had me so intrigued!

Can we first talk about the characters names: Adelaide and Frederick? I just loved their development as characters and with each other, some of their back and forth made me laugh.

The story is definitely original and kept me on my toes and was just a great read overall!

I want to thank the author Austin for the ebook and all of the opinions/thoughts above are completely my own!

Austin's writing grows with each publication & this was no exception. My favorite yet!

From the character development & interactions, to the settings described that just pulled you into the time period, to the emotional the journey the story evokes (you'll laugh out loud, tear up, maybe yell at a character - all the feels)...this one completely pulled me in & I couldn't put it down!
