All my life, I expected to be a beta. So when I met a lovely man in college during class freshman year, I thought nothing of it. Three years later, when I unexpectedly emerged as an omega, I was determined that our lives wouldn’t change. Five years later, my suppressants fail on my mate, and I mid-heat. We’re left with very few suffer through an unmedicated heat or find some alphas to weather future heats with us. The thing is, I’ve never really wanted a relationship with an alpha. I’ve never really wanted a pack. Will my hormones drive me to do something I don’t want, or will I find acceptance and love? A Pack Unwanted is my debut novel and the first book in the Williams-Torrance Pack series featuring LGBTQ+ and inclusive characters; why choose and spicy– Intended for adult audiences only.
On August 1st, 2022 I decided to write a book. After some encouraging notes from friends I continued to write it and on September 24th, 2022 I finished the bulk writing of my very first novel. I am excited to share all the stories that seem to fill my head. I will often be writing paranormal romance that is spicy, why choose, and LGBTQ+ friendly. Right now I have at least seven more planned and new ideas everyday.
When I am not writing, I work full-time as an accountant. When I do finally relax you can find me hanging out with my partners or friends, reading a good book, crocheting something fun, doing some other craft, or hanging out with my two kittens affectionately named Lola and Baby after Kathryn Moon’s Sweetverse characters.
I've lived in Washington State my whole life, born and raised in a small town before moving near Seattle after finishing college where I have lived for the last nine years.
Yeah, I'm not liking this pack much. Specifically, Damon.
He seems way more interested in Adam when it's Cat that's on a time constraint. I understand having a connection to Adam, too, but there should have been more effort put into getting to know her. ESPECIALLY under the circumstances within their pack.
I agree with Cat that this could have been addressed during the Fourth of July.
They fucked up. They lied to her, and now she's stuck between riding her first unmedicated heat out with a stranger, alone with Adam, or with a pack she loves but can't trust. Again, Damon is the one with the most experience and should have realized how bad this would be for Cat. If she was going to be his Omega, he's not showing a good job of being able to care for her.
Another alternative: mentioning Damon has a supportive Omega that is all for gaining another and that meeting would come later. Done. Of course, there would be questions, but there wouldn't be 2 months of lying either.
Matt and Abby are so sure that Cat is the Omega for them but chose to continue to "protect" Damon's Omega instead of their own. Yes, the pack comes first, but isn't Cat supposed to be your pack, too?
It just seems that everyone was constantly choosing someone else over Cat. At every turn. I feel so sorry for her. Even Adam, in the end, decided that Cat needed to meet with this pack again without talking to her. Good thing she had already decided to hear them out, or she could have felt betrayed YET AGAIN. Poor girls' hormones are coming completely out of control and she's got emotional stress at every turn with, what seems like, no one on her side.
I was really enjoying Cat & Adams journey to find a pack. Though they were deeply committed & happy as they were, as a couple, Cat had a serious issue that made it imperative to seek Alphas or a pack or endure medical intervention. So yes, they are basically forced by circumstances to seek a pack neither wanted. Cat being uncomfortable with Alphas makes this a particular challenge. When the story reaches, clearly, the heart of the angst, I am with Cat in her sense of betrayal. She felt rightly that this was getting or is a serious relationship. They kept information from her & Adam that wasn't even necessary to hide but important to the fragile trust growing between them all. When it's explained why, I am stunned that they even believed their own reasoning. Cat & Adam could have been told the truth without giving specifics. It was as if they proved Cat's fear was valid. I am interested in how the author resolves this in book 2. Will Cat cave too easily, made to feel like she's over sensitive? Adam is kind of stuck wanting to support his mate but also yearning for Damon. I'm hoping Cat makes it clear she deserves to know important things to make the best choice for herself & her life. I hope Damon truly realizes he brought this heartbreak into his pack as well as to Cat & Adam unnecessarily. Does he feel justified or does he realize he went to far? I want to go on a specific rant that would spoil the story. I want to rant about a few specific characters. I feel really strong opinions about the unresolved angst so that just proves how good this story is. I am left unsatisfied & I will read the next just to chase that need to see if Cat gets a pack that deserves her or she settles.
Fresh and new take on an Omegaverse. Definitely a sweetverse. Cliffhanger at the end so we await book #2.
I like Cat and Adam's beginning dynamic. Adam does a great job of taking care of Cat's needs and you can tell that they really love each other. I am always a big fan of a pack with a beta.
I got excited when they had the random meet with Damon at the bar but then it was like he opted out. I did not feel like he was interested in Cat at all. Matt and Abby were interested enough in Cat that they were willing to get to know Adam and I though that was great.
My heart hurt for Mickey. I did not feel like their own packmates respected them at all because they didn't include them in anything. I know it was a protective measure but I personally felt like they should have been included from the beginning.
Ugh I can't stand Damon. Something about the way he treated Mickey felt wrong and he clearly had no interest in Cat. I wish he wasn't in the picture. I liked Adam right up until the end when he started trying to pressure Cat into forgiving them before she was ready (all because he wants Damon). It was such a sharp change from how he'd behaved in the beginning that it feels like meeting this pack had ruined their bond. Matt and Abby are wonderful though. It would be great if Cat could bond with those two only. The ending of this left me feeling anxious and dissatisfied.

I really liked the concept and the characters. The only person I didn’t like was Damon. I did feel like the book tried to cover a lot of tropes and topics that weren’t all necessary. I’m not sure if I would continue reading it
First I’d like to give a shout out to the author for all of the trigger warnings. Now with that I’ll say that this book had aspects that I don’t typically read or haven’t read before so I was a little hesitant. I figured it’d be an okay read at best but boy was I wrong! I really enjoyed this story, from the realistic world they live in where they have real world problems just slightly altered, to the character dynamics. I liked watching how all the characters interact with each other as the storyline developed but I think Adam and Matt were my favorite. Who doesn’t want a mate like Adam?! This was also an easy read which helps with keeping up with all the characters and being able to remember what’s happening when you need to stop reading for a bit. The only downside I have with this story is that I have questions that I’m going to have to wait for book 2 to get answers. Seriously, if the trigger warnings don’t have anything that’s a no for you, give this book a try. You might just be pleasantly surprised 😉
Dnf @ 48% This was a painful read. I almost stopped about 10% in but wanted to give it a fair shot but it was so boring I didn’t even went to skim to find out the end. It was so slow paced, the writing felt stilted, and they genuinely tried at being progressive but it felt forced. The way the first several pages were overly detailed descriptions of the MC, but by half way through we still knew nothing about Mickey other than they were non binary, and an omega sub rubbed me the wrong way too. I’m sure it’s hard to write and develop so many characters and relationships at once but everyone was so one dimensional and bland and they talked sooooo much but you only find out surface level details that don’t build the characters at all.
Nope dnf 48%. First it’s was too sweet I got a tooth ache. Not real life enough. I was surprise everyone didn't burp sprinkles and toot rainbows, you know. I also have other reasons but will just leave it there. Book 2 was free a little bit ago so I fig’d it was a good time to read book 1 via kindle unlimited. Phew dodged a bullet there, not even gonna read book 2 that’s just going straight into the disintegrate pile.
I don’t know where to start. This entire book is based on a dubcon relationship with absolutely no trigger warning. Cat and Adam enter into the relationship with all their cards on the table yet Damon, Matt, and Abby hide the fact that they have another person in their pack, one who is romantically involved with Damon and best friends with Matt and Abby. The fact that they hid an entire person and multiple relationships while building a new one with Cat and Adam screams dubious consent.

Dnf, the extreme lack of communication in regards to withholding the knowledge of a whole person really put me off. I get they were gonna tell them soon but it bothered me
What a cute start to the series! I am really excited to see what the author does with the next book and how the characters will come together as a pack. I really enjoyed everything about this book and how the dynamics are coming together. I can't wait to see what they do with the next one. I really like how all the characters interact with each other.
The FMC Cat was a very interesting character. I really like how she just wanted her partner Adam at the beginning but began to open herself up. I am really excited to see where book 2 goes and how all the dynamics will come together as a pack. I was super excited for Damon when he met these two. I was like yes! I love it. I felt a little hurt for Cat, because it did kinda feel like he didn’t want to get to know Cat which he irritated me a little bit lol. I’m excited to see how the relationships progress though in book 2. Especially with Mickey and Cat. I will say I was about Mickey sometimes cause I felt like they were being left out sometimes and I just wanted to hug them.
Spice? It wasn't overpowering, but just enough to keep you wanting more lol.
Overall, I really enjoyed the first book in the series. I can't wait to see what the author does with the second book and how the characters all come together as a pack. The story does leave you wandering how it is going to continue in book 2. I can't wait to see what book 2 is all about.
This is a sweet omegaverse book. It's about Caitlin and Adam. Caitlin is an omega and Adam is a beta. They are a bonded couple. They are not in a pack and don't want to be in one. During Caitlin's heat, her suppressants fail suddenly. This means that Caitlin can no longer be on suppressants as they no longer work for her and she now needs an alpha to get her through her heats.
This has Caitlin and Adam at the Omega center. They scent match with a pack. The book is about their developing relationship with the pack.
This is the first book I've read with a non-binary character. I'm interested to see if we'll get any chapters from their POV in the rest of the series.
I thought this was a great sweet omegaverse. I'm excited to read the rest of Williams-Torrence Pack's story.
I wanted to like this because the premise was interesting to me. However, the characters had very little personality and the scenes read like a stilted recounting of someone's day. Even the texts between characters, which I usually like to see in books, were banal and did not approach cheeky banter at all.
This wasn’t it for me. Lying and withholding things in what’s supposed to be a lighthearted romcom, especially the content that was being lied about makes me feel uncomfy
This is the story on the bonded couple Caitlin an omega and her bonded Adam who is a beta. Cat’s heat suppressants quick working during her heat and she is almost hospitalized due to the effects. After, that happens Cat and Adam decide they may need to find a pack to be able to assist Cat in her heats something Adam can’t do. They deal will lots of grief from Omega services about Cat being bonded to Adam finally at some failed matches they scent a pack they like and match. They start spending time together with Cat starting relationships with Matthew and Abby. Adam and Damon start a relationship as well but that leaves a lot unanswered since Damon is always working and not putting time into the relationships. Things come to a head when they are all together for dinner and Cat overhears Damon on the phone and learns of a secret they have been keeping. The story leaves off with us wondering how things will work out with Cat, Adam, and the pack.

A lovely fresh take on a sweetverse. First time reading from h his author and I absolutely loved this story, the fmc was such an amazingly written character. I liked that in this omegaverse the omega was already dating a beta and they were looking to join a pack together and the pack dynamic was very unique once they started all coming together. I can’t wait for the next book!
I really enjoyed this debut novel by Jenny L. Black. I'm a big fan of omegaverse novels so this book was right up my alley.
I loved the relationship between Cat and Adam, you could really see how much they really cared for each other. Matt and Abby were just the sweetest alphas. I'm not sure yet about Damon... He's going to need to do some serious groveling in the next book.
My least favourite part of the book was how Mickey was treated by their pack, I just didn't love it.
Overall, it was a great read and I'm looking forward to the next book!
I received an ARC copy of the book but I'm leaving this review voluntarily.
This was my first book by Jenny Black and it was a fun take on omegaverse. Once I started this book I couldn't put in down and ended up finishing it in one sitting. This is a little different from most omegaverse books in that the omega already had a well-established long-term relationship with a beta and didn't want to add anyone else, but her biology forced it on her. I think the author did a good job of making sure there was plenty of communication between everyone and it never felt like her beta was left behind or second place. I do wish we could have seen more from the other omega in the alpha's pre-established pack, but I have a feeling that will happen in the next book. This book does end on a cliff hanger, and I can't wait to see what's coming next.
I love Adam and Cats relationship. Adam is amazing... I really enjoyed this book. Quite impressed that this is a debut! So well done. I do wish we got in to know Micky more and I understand that will probably happen in the second book. Looking forward to seeing how all the relationships go.
Sweet and Spicy is my favorite combo and this book nailed it! Loved the relationships and character building and it makes you really feel connected to their growth, as well as, hardships. I laughed, blushed, and even teared up through this book. There is a cliffhanger and generally I am so annoyed by them but this one just makes you excited for the next book. I cannot WAIT for book 2!! Also books that come with a playlist to listen to is one of my new favorite things, I love how it helps encompass the setting of the book and characters thoughts and feelings!
Nothing like being content with your life. Good man. Good job. But… there’s always a butt. Your suppressants stop working. Remember that good man? He understands what’s going to have to happen next. You end up meeting this pack and you’re a bit hesitant with everything. This is the premise of what’s happening. A slow build of emotion. But it’s a freaking cliffhanger! Ugh. When is the second one coming out?
First off I will say I have no issues with same sex coupling or non binary people. The writing however gives no warning which makes it difficult getting into it with the plural context of the character Mickey. Thinking grammatical issues, I became confused early on. Also in the beginning there was a strong attraction between Cat and Damon that disappeared and then transferred to Adam. This left me disappointed, as I was eager to see them ignite that spark. I like the slow build up on the relationships between Cat, Abby, and Matt, and I love the bond between Cat and Adam. You can tell the author put a lot of effort into creating their bonds. There was no actual ending, the book just stops, which also left me confused wondering if I was missing pages. While I finished, I can honestly say I won’t be moving on to book two.
This is a romance about a polyamorous relationship, with the backdrop of Omegaverse. All the Omegaverse aspect adds is a reason/urgency for why these people need to get together, but if you took it out, almost nothing would change about this story.
There’s no real plot. It’s all relationship based. The main struggle is keeping Mickey a secret, which doesn’t make a ton of sense since Adam and Cat met them and weren’t intolerant in any way.
The cliffhanger is unnecessary. Cat’s heat is 15 days away by the end of the book, so do we really need a second book for the next two weeks of the relationship?
Also, the Omegas were a little too infantilized for my tastes. Cat, especially, acts like a child, but our limited exposure to Mickey indicates the same. It’s hard to find this kind of parent-child relationship sexy.
For me, this is probably more like a two star book, but I rarely rate books that low if I finish them. It was good enough to finish, but not good enough for me to pick up book two for the “gripping conclusion.”
Okay first off, nothing in the blurb prepared me for the book just ending. Out of nowhere. Go to turn the page, and it pops up for me to review. *spoilers* . . . . . While I could understand Damon's reluctance to share about Mickey, there were a million other, better ways to do it. Cat should absolutely not forgive. F them! Seriously. Just telling her Damon has an omega, the others do not, without explaining about the omega being nonbinary at first would have worked, and still protected Mickey. Honestly, at this point, if Cat forgives Matt and Abby, fine. I think she should leave Damon as a platonic part of her pack. He is not worth the paper he is written on.
Ugh this is so boring! Literally a couple, two neurotic accountants (that call each other hun…) are looking for a pack. There’s some politically correct pronoun intrigue thrown in. … still boring. Reading paragraph after paragraph about brushing teeth before bed, doing dishes after dinner,& taking shoes off when entering a house drives me nuts. Just tedious filler garbage. I made it to 60% when they threw in the requisite BDSM character. Eye roll. I can’t anymore, I value my reading time.
While I can appreciate the author trying to be as inclusive as possible, showing as many facets of a polyamorous group as possible, the romance aspect suffers.
