They call me Takemi, and I am a mercenary. I survived a near-death battlefield head injury just to get thrown right back into the meatgrinder. My friends and I survived brigands, beasts, scheming nobles, a rigged tribunal, and oh, more beasts! But it wasn’t all bad! My bond with ether helped put part of my fractured mind back together. What did I see? Glimpses of a life lost. A woman I’d failed. But also...a rift forming from the ether convergence. You see, I was there when the collapse started, even though I couldn’t remember. We’re under the protection of the Protectorate now and they mean to use our skills for battle to bring glory to Zurich. Where? The Mêlée of Kings. An ether-rich swamp ripe for conquest. But things aren’t always as they seem. And as I am starting to learn, knowledge might just be the greatest power. My real name is Kenji Nakamura, and I am a survivor.
I’m giving this book 4 stars because of the story. I’m also giving it for stars because of the two wolves. ivory and Omega are the best things in this series. If you’re looking for alien gods, aliens, computer systems, blue screens, pages of stats, loot, level, upgrades, and health bars. You won’t find them in this book. the story is very interesting, but it’s very light on RPG elements. The book takes a different turn as far as stats are concerned. the story is very intriguing. If you like dealing with double dealing and duplicitous, noble men, hordes of enemies, different types of monsters, you will enjoy this book.
This story has a lot of new wrinkles. I Was interested enough to read two books pretty much non-stop during my free time. Glad I took a chance on this author and will look to see if he has anything else in this genre.
Great story that is incredibly well done, but the lack of AK 47’s was strange. What a perfect weapon that could be built with the surviving technology. Yes, I enjoyed the alt history Turtidove book that introduced AK 47’s into the civil war, Guns of the civil war.
It's fine. The pacing is decent, the bad guys are cartoonish, the world-building is good, and the main characters are interesting. It just doesn't feel like it's heading anywhere. There's no major plot arc to anchor the narrative, and thus I find it a little forgettable.
Books 1 and 2 were absolutely Great. I can't wait for book 3. Hope it's soon. A lot of adventure, A little romance, And a lot of action. Great characters And a lot of depth.
Very excitingly written, interesting world. Can't wait to read a third part. It is typical LITRPG, the characters are getting stronger, even omega the wolf, and also the enemies. But there are interesting plots and many open threads.
