Fantastic workbook! Bought it for my son, ended up using it myself, too!
I got this workbook to help my high strung tween settle down before bed and learn some techniques for dealing with his mood swings. Not only have these techniques helped him better regulate his emotions, but they’ve made a huge difference in how I deal with all the overwhelm I feel as a working mom with a side business and several volunteer obligations. I’d heard of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, but not Dialectical Behavior Therapy. DBT really provides the missing piece because it encourages you to learn to recognize and radically accept discomfort before making the changes that will really allow you to move on from your mental health issues. I loved the idea of the ‘wise mind’ where the rational and emotional minds meet and work together. This workbook is highly recommended!
Wonderful resource for adolescents with mental health challenges
The author uses his own experience coping with OCD to help youths handle their own mental health challenges. He first outlines and defines a number of mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, eating disorders etc before providing practical DBT exercises for his readers. This workbook is especially needed after the spike in these issues after the isolation of COVID…and at a time when there is an unfortunate lack of mental health counselors.
