"We require wives. A review of the populated planets in your region revealed that Earth females are the closest genetically to our species. Thus we have decided to take one thousand human females with us."
As these words are broadcast over Earth media, Janis Stone blacks out. She awakens on an alien colonization ship, one of a thousand human women destined to become Brides of the Terilian colonists.
At first outraged by the kidnapping, Jan soon finds herself intrigued by Delos, the Terilian doctor who serves as liaison to the human Brides. Despite his pointed, furry ears and the pelt down his back, Delos' muscular physique and wonderful scent draw Jan like catnip attracting a feline. The two embark on a sensual journey, exploring their species' sexual compatibility.
But their new love is threatened when a higher-ranked male desires Jan. As she plans a mass wedding for the thousand Brides, she dreads the upcoming "Spring Running", the mysterious rite where Terilians will mate with their Brides. Will the wrong groom claim her?
Solange Ayre, galaxy-hopping investigative journalist, also serves as a policy advisor to the United Conglomeration of Planetary Jurisdictions. She makes her home on Ayriana, her private island-republic in the West Caribbean region of Earth, where she is adored by islanders and servants alike.
After a whirlwind childhood living in the capitals of Europe, Solange married St. Georges Ayre, one of the wealthiest men in the world. The crystal palace he bought her on Ayriana is the primary tourist attraction in the area--at least, for those who can find it. St. George's mysterious assassination by ninjas is still mourned by his grieving widow.
Directly descended from King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, Solange graciously supports the democratic government of France and relinquishes her claim to the throne. Under no circumstances will she answer to the title "Your Highness."
In her spare time, Solange enjoys breeding and showing her prize-winning miniature dragons as well as researching and writing erotic romance.
How Do You Feel About Alien Sex? (This review covers the Star Bride series and Wizard's Woman).
I'm actually feeling pretty good about it right now.
I just finished reading Solange Ayre's Star Bride series...One Thousand Brides, Bride Reborn, and Bride's Holiday Gift. I liked this author so much I also got Wizard's Woman--seriously, that Kindle is deadly! I inhaled these 4 stories in 24 hours.
Ayre's "aliens" resemble earth boys in many ways, but they also have a few differences. Furry ears, a pelt of fur on their backs, a cylindrical-shaped penis head, and a really good jumping ability (these guys would kick ass in the NBA). Also, they can't have an orgasm unless their female partners do....hee hee...rock on, Aliens! Ayre does a great job with her world-building...the aliens are similar enough to humans so that they are not off-putting in any way, but different enough to be fascinating (kissing is not in their sexual repertoire, so the brides have to teach them...cool!).
The aliens kidnap 1,000 human brides to save their race. I love the fact that they choose only plus-size women, who they consider the epitome of beauty and sensuality. These women from earth, who were so self-conscious about their appearance and worth, are now worshipped by the alien men, and made to feel gorgeous and desirable. Love it!
Even in a shorter format, Ayre does a fabulous job creating these characters and making their love stories believable. She pulls you right into the story, makes you care about the characters, and incorporates the very sexy love scenes perfectly. I hope she is planning more books in this series...I want me some more alien lovin'!!!!
Also, I thought Wizard's Woman was excellent. It has a lot of elements I really like....an older man/mentor, a younger apprentice (who is hiding her real identity), and hot diggity dog....the wizard has a goatee! Sexy, baby.
Ayre is such a good writer that I barely flinched with subject matter like exhibitionist sex (which would normally turn me off) and a bit of dom/submissive stuff in Wizard's Woman. I don't read a lot of erotica, but I really enjoyed this author. She includes a good story, fascinating characters, and a real emotional connection with her love scenes.
Rock on, Solange!
Grades: A-/B+....Penelope definitely recommends!
Wondering how I can get on that alien ship, Penelope
2.5 stars. Weird. I think you will enjoy this book more if you happen to be a "cat person". No joke. I only say this because I am not a 'cat person'.
** Spoiler Warning **
This was a short little novella, so it took very little time to read. It was just so very girly. Dreaming about getting married, loosing weight for her wedding to the jerk that made cracks about her size on earth. Gets kidnapped by aliens while wearing her wedding dress that was still too small for her.
Fast foreword to later on the alien ship. Yes they've been kidnapped. Yes they've had their DNA altered because the aliens would prefer less humanity and more cat-lady. Yes you will be so horny by the time of the Spring Running, you won't care if you get the hot Doctor or the big Pompous Ass. What are they still concerned with? Brides dresses, wedding planning, the dance, the menu, the flowers.... really?
All of the cat stuff was....imaginative. I guess. The beds high up by the ceiling, not drinking alcohol but sniffing the herbal stuff. The maze. The tunnel in the maze. All the cat games.
If estrogen and girly topics were sugar, I feel like I would be close to some kind of diabetic coma right now.
This is an entertaining sci fi novella, but I post here because....I was a close friend of the author Solange Ayre (a pseudonym for Mary Ann Chulick -- nee Gilbert -- who published several other books in various genres). Mary Ann passed away August 17, 2020 at the age of 64, after a long illness.
She was very active in Romance Writers of America, attending many conventions, and active in a local Romance Writers critique group here in the Cleveland Ohio area.
I'd love to hear from any of her colleagues, friends, fellow writers, editors, etc. or even people who read this book (471! she'd be so thrilled!). I am amazed this has gotten rated by readers in the last 3-4 years, because it's totally out of print, even online and Ellora's Cave went bankrupt and is LONG gone. To my knowledge, Mary Ann had stopped getting royalties from it years ago.

The h is trying on her wedding dress when the radio begins broadcasting a message from aliens (ala-the outer limits) that this benevolent race of aliens needs women and they are going to take 1000 earth women to help save their species since they are compatible and all their women have been wiped out in some sort of epidemic. Again, just go with it :)
The hero is "cat-like', that's right, I said "cat-like". He has silky shoulder length hair and his ears are two triangular protrusions from the top of his head.
I know, I know, but I enjoyed every silly ridiculous moment of it.
shapeshifting aliens (ok... only parts of them can shift) have come to Earth because their home planet has no women...... God, do we need to save the whole universe here? Seems like every planet out there needs Earth women to repopulate their planet ... and have settled on abducting 1,000 single women from our planet to mate with.
Janis Stone is one of the women abducted and Seccondus Delos the MD who is assigned to convert the females so they are totally biologically compatible with their species. Delos knows Janis is a prime female and will be claimed by the hierarchy of their planet yet he has strong feelings for Janis that can't be denied, and isn't. All he can do is enjoy their time together until the Spring Running.
Primus Taddus has first choice of any of the females and he wants Janis. There's nothing Delos or Janis can do to prevent what's to be.... or is there?
Straight forward plot and story line featuring BBW women who are abducted and forced to undergo a transformation to make them compatible to mate with Terilians. The goal for the Terilians: to repopulate a dying race. The goal for the Earth women: women are pleasured and brought to orgasms often and repeatedly by men who have strong sexual stamina and endurance. Win/win in my book.
While I appreciated and enjoyed the whole premise and backbone exhibited by the women abducted I can't say that this read was unique in that presentation. Some of the details are different but the overall atory line followed a cookie cutter pattern. The adult content added some extra HAWTNESS that continues to feed my fantasy of aliens who have excellent taste in wanting the women of Earth.
The issues I had were that many of the details didn't make sense or were incomplete. Total non spoiler example... Janis wakes up on the alien ship and is told she had been given strong pain med ... Why? I THINK I know the answer but was I correct? And I'm a little perturbed over the actual abduction of women from Earth. The payment/benefit the aliens provided as compensation to our planet made me very upset. I would have appreciated if this part of the story would have received a little more attention.
Overall, a pleasant read that can be enjoyed without worrying about significant story line twists & turns or blind sides. Just an alien and a girl who find love and a way to have their HEA ending.
ahhh, now even though they are sleazy this is my favorite type of romance... i mean she could have made it so she actually built up to loving him a bit more... and i dont really understand why authors feel the need to make every woman the over weight low self esteem woman the abductee of aliens. to be honest it pisses me off. i understand you want it to be either the beauty and the beast, or over weight women are beautiful too, or dont judge a book by the cover kind of thing. but you also have to realize that there are skinny people too. like really... im skinny with no boobs what so ever, when will a romance author write about me? NEVER! because skinny it what every girl wants right? oh and "of course" every guy wants a skinny girl too right? (wrong) but on top of that no boobs is not sexy soooo.... to be honest if authors feel the need to do the whole "oh i was ugly or unwanted back on earth" routine friggin do it with everything not just fat woman. scuse me, "luscious, curves in all the right places, beauties."
eh... nice, fast read. wasn't too bad, but not all that great for some reason; even though i liked the basic setup (despite the plot holes; eg, H's father was on ship while mother, supposedly still mated to the man, was not... and this species will die if they go without sex for a few weeks or whatever... so maybe father mother were not mated any longer. oh well... ).
didn't care for the whole primus thing... they're the only ones who can wear jewelry or the colors grey and brown (usually, in most cultures, it's the other way around). and, they get to override the secondary males' choice of mates. well, why not just let them go first and pick out their mates, then the secondary mates can take their pick. but no, that would've messed with the plot... of H picking h, then fighting a 'primus' for her, mostly losing, and h coming in the slash the villain, who finally, finally backs off... is that a spoiler? oh well, she ends with the healer, who didn't see that coming?
upping the stars by one... just because i opened it today, and it felt like a 4, if not a 4 then def a 3 :D.
I read Bride's Gift first as an Amazon Freebie and just had to pick this up. Honestly, I felt let down. To me it felt rushed, when it just ended I was like "Where's the rest of the book?!?!?!"
I wished we had learned more about the Talerians. I found them so interesting and it was very refreshing to have male alphas so into plus sized heroines!!! Being a plus size lady myself, I can tell you first hand there are no enough plus sized heroines in Paranormal/Historical romance! Overall I recommend One Thousand Brides and the follow up Bride's Gift!
Overall: Janis is trying on her wedding dress when a voice booms out loudly that aliens are going to take 1000 brides and than everything goes blank. When Janis awakes she is is overtaken with an orgasm and then sees one of the most handsome men she has ever laid eyes on. Dr. Delos is really attracted to Janis, but he tries to stay professional, but it is hard. After this point, they form an instant bond and in the end they get a really HEA. Pros and Cons: I wish that the book was a little longer and a better explanation on where the aliens came from and just more details about them. I really loved the sexual scenes and how Delos fought for Janis and their mating.
One thousand large sized woman are snatched way from earth by a space faring race called Terilians, to be their brides. They colonizing a new planet, and have lost their woman to a sickness, without wives come the Spring run, they will die. Earth woman are the closest to them genetically, they have already started the transition to their bodies to readybtem for their new lives when the woman awaken.
The doctor has fallen hard for Janis Stone when one of the upper class men decide that she will be his bride. Is there way for the doctor and Janis to make their love last? Or will she fall victim once again to the arrogeence of the Primuses? Great short read.
I grabbed this ebook as a free read from Ellora's Cave. Some of the books are hit and miss, while others are compelling beginnings to a new series. This book happened to fall in the latter half. Ayre has managed to weave interesting characters into her new world. The world itself could use some dimension, but I greatly enjoyed the hero and heroine--their chemistry was wonderful! I look forward to seeing where this story goes, and what happens to our alien race.
Janis is trying out her wedding gown, trying to make it fit, when the PA system comes alive with the announcement "We need a thousand Brides to our space ship" -- and then everything is black. What started as a normal day, turned out to be the day when she´s abducted, knocked out and transformed. With no chance of returning to Earth, she´s forced to accept the situation -- and gear up for the alien Wedding. Quick read, smutty fluff and space romance.
When i read the synopsis for this book ,I was expecting something way different than what I got . The author is good , but I didn't want a short story about a bunch of woman happily chattering about what their weddings will be like & about getting married to the other beings that just kidnapped them .
it was good but not "what i needed" i guess is the right phrase. it was short and compact. just reading the second in the series summary they start it all over again. im not into that. if it started from the spring running i could see that. but i dont want to read everything over again.
I was looking for a good alien romance book but this was just not great. The aliens were jerks in the beginning. I just did not love the story. Jan was a pretty strong character and I enjoyed her and her Terilian was cool but just not a favorite read of mine.
Really enjoyed this alien abduction story full of powerful orgasms, unique world building and a delightful HEA. Unfortunately it was just too darn short!
