I'm cursed. Unlucky in love. So pretending to fall in love with my best friend's sister couldn't possibly make it worse. My avoidance of relationships has two neighboring towns joining forces to find me a girlfriend—one I don’t want. So when they name me the bachelor in their charity dating show , I have two suffer the consequences of bailing or accept help from my best friend’s little sister. I chose the latter. Because Olivia Vaughn has a plan. She suggests a ringer—someone on the inside…someone I trust, that I can choose at the end of the show. A fake contestant . It’s crazy. Risky. And undeniably tempting.
We’d have to touch, flirt, kiss. I could pull her close…that long, auburn hair wrapped up in my fist as I whisper all the dirty thoughts I’ve ever had about her.
Pretending to fall for her may be more dangerous than letting our meddlesome town play matchmaker. Because if this backfires, it might cost me my best friend, disappoint our families, and reignite feelings for the feisty, hazel-eyed beauty I grew up with. So while I can’t—shouldn’t—pretend to fall in love with Olivia, I do. With the hope that fake girlfriends are curse-proof. Falling for the Bachelor is a steamy, brother's best friend, fake relationship, friends-to-lovers, small town, standalone romantic comedy. It contains plenty of steamy scenes, laughs, and an HEA.

This was an amazing brothers best friend, fake dating, small-town romance.
I seriously loved the concept of a small-town version of the Bachelor. It made for some hilarious scenes. I felt bad for Sawyer and all the ridiculous things that happened to him on dates but it was also really funny.
The relationship between Olivia and Sawyer was fantastic. And ohhh the dirty talk was so hot 🥵.
This book introduces characters for the Vaughn Brothers series and I'm already in love with these characters and can't wait to continue the series!!
People should read Amy Alves more often, and that's just plain fact. She never fails to write stories that are captivating, steamy, heart-warming, and fun.
Falling For the Bachelor was no exception. I read most of it with a smile on my face and LOLed just enough times for people around me to look at me funny.
The thing I love the most about Ms. Alves's writing is her heroines. They're always highly entertaining, strong even when feeling/seeming weak, and they're soooo relatable. Liv was all of these things, and I'd want to be her BFF were she a real person.
As far as Sawyer goes... Let me start by saying that I'm usually not into good guys. Give me a bad boy at any hour of day. But, man... Sawyer was a dream! He was sweet and caring. Funny and awkward. And then he was hot and dominant where I wasn't expecting it, setting my skin on 🔥! Wow! The title does this book justice because, boy, did I fall for the bachelor!
But what I fell for the most was the dynamic between Liv and Sawyer. All those perfect little moments that seemingly meant nothing but then added up over time until everything caught flames... They gave me butterflies!
This book is exactly what a small town romance should be - light, humorous, steamy, and whatever the word is for that warm and fuzzy feeling one gets in their stomach when drinking hot cocoa by the fireplace in the middle of a cold winter.
Cannot recommend it enough!

I'd like to thank the author for providing me with an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.
Who doesn’t love a good fake dating turned into a love story.
Olivia and Sawyer were too hot for paper. I absolutely loved their dirty talk and the slow build up of them falling for each other.
I couldn’t get over how perfect the setting of a little town version of the bachelor was for the book. It definitely made it awesome for a little bit of comedy.
It was absolutely perfect and everyone should read it. Can’t wait to continue on the series.
This was a very cute story. I loved how sawyer and Olivia fit together. Some funny and hot spots in the story , liked how the couple over came some obstacles to get to there hea .loved how they came together and helped one another which led to there ultimate happiness .
Sawyer Fletcher, a kindhearted veterinarian, is considered to be one of the town’s most eligible bachelors. Because the Landry League doesn’t know how to mind their own business, Sawyer has been volunteered to be the “Hometown Hottie” on LoveVine, a Bachelor inspired event that Landry is cohosting with a neighboring town called Vaughn. Participating on LoveVine is the last thing Sawyer wants to do, but as they’re donating to his favorite charity, he really has no choice.
That’s where Olivia Vaughn comes in. Beautiful, smart, and witty, Liv is freshly divorced and has recently moved back to Vaughn. If she applies as a fake contestant, all of Sawyer’s troubles are over. The only problem? Sawyer is hopelessly, desperately attracted to Liv, a side of himself he never explored because she was his best friend’s little sister. Everything between him and Liv is supposed to be fake, but his feelings have become very real…
Oh. My. Gosh. Amy Alves has done it again, and with a brand new spin-off series too!!! Sawyer and Liv’s love story was everything I didn’t know I needed. And this swoony and spicy small town romance checked all my boxes and more! It was so fun to go back to the world of Landry, which has now expanded into Vaughn with this story as well. The League’s shenanigans were hilarious as always, and I loved watching them give all their efforts to the LoveVine show! I also loved the side characters, some new, and some who are familiar to those who’ve read the Landry Love series.
Let’s talk about Sawyer. This man, I swear!!! Half the time I wanted to smother him in hugs, and the other half the time I wanted to slap him upside the head. He’s so sweet and kind, and I truly believe his heart is in the right place. I just think he was a little jaded after so many bad dates. And luckily for him, his luck finally changes with Liv. She was one of the best heroines I’ve read about in a while, I loved her sass and smart aleck comebacks. I think she’s super sweet and that after going through such an awful divorce, a little happiness is exactly what she needed. I highly recommend!
Sawyer is cursed. Unlucky in love. So pretending to fall in love with his best friend's sister couldn't possibly make it worse. Two neighboring towns have joined forces to find him a girlfriend, one he definitely doesn't want. So when they call him the bachelor on their charity dating show, he has two options: suffer the consequences or accept help from my best friend's sister. He chooses the latter, because Olivia Vaughn has a plan. She proposes a fake candidate. Someone he trusts and can choose at the end of the show. Risky and undeniably seductive. They should be touching, flirting, kissing. Pretending to fall for her may be more dangerous than letting his meddling town play matchmaker. Because if this backfires, it could cost him his best friend, and maybe even the love of his life.
This is the first book I've read by Amy Alves and it didn't disappoint me. It's a small town romance with a fake dating and brothers best friend theme. Two of my favorite themes, when it’s executed well and this one did! The town has some curious inhabitants and together with the disastrous love life of Sawyer, this provides the necessary humor in the book. When Olivia's brothers spice things up, the romcom is certainly a success. The dating show is well done and because the book is told from both Sawyer's and Olivia's perspective, you know how they both experience this. Sawyer is especially insecure when it comes to relationships, and Olivia has burned herself into a previous marriage. This makes their emotions appear realistic. They are well matched and a suitable couple. But there are more participants lurking, who want to steal the sexy bachelor. There is enough going on in the book to hold your attention. A feelgood romance with a sexy edge and the necessary humor.
Thank you to the author an PR-team for sending me an arc in exchange for an honest review.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 / 🌶️🌶️ a small towns take on the bachelor.
Sawyer the dirty taking hot vet, who’s cursed when it comes to dating. Olivia fresh from a divorce and the sister of Sawyers best friend.
This book was the perfect mix for me.
Sawyer has no luck when it comes to dating.. fire department, hospitals, coconut oil are just a few endings to some really bad dates for him. His small town knows he struggles so why not make him the home town hottie? 12 girls, daisies given out every week, solo dates… what could go wrong?
Olivia… is what goes wrong. Sawyer had no intentions of falling for his best friends sister. But oh boy did fall, and the chemistry was hot 🔥 he’s a good guy on the outside but in the bedroom his has a foul mouth 😮💨
besides the steamy tension this book had me laughing to the point of crying, the spin on the bachelor and the solo dates and what went wrong had tears coming out of my eyes.
I cannot wait for the next book in this series, Amy has me fully hooked with this small town.
We've met Sawyer in Amy's Landry Love series as the good looking vet with bad luck dating. Now he's moving back home to Vaughn and reluctantly taking part in this charity event.
I love the idea of a small-town version of The Bachelor, especially when this town likes to meddle in everything.
I haven't laughed so much whilst reading for quite a while 😂
Sawyer and Olivia have known each other for years because he's best friends with her brother and she's always had a bit of a crush on him.
These two are perfect for each other and their chemistry is off the charts!
Sawyer is a such a good guy but don't let that put you off... this man may be quiet normally but he definitely likes to be vocal when it comes to the spice 🥵
If you're a rom-com fan, I highly recommend grabbing this one ❤️
A sexy vet with a dirty mouth, a woman willing to help the poor guy out, a blossom of a fake relationship!? Heck, yeah. A reader's win win!
Great characters, a story that isn't what you are expecting, exceptional chemistry and a perfect tempo of storytelling is what makes Falling for the Bachelor hard to put down.
This book is romance at its best. It gives you the fun and the heart warming moments to melt you, but with a a good balance of angst and drama. Oh, but the heat... panty-dropping.
This is the first book I read by this author and I really enjoyed her writing style. Falling for the Bachelor is well-written and believable.
Sawyer hasn’t had the best of luck when it comes to love and relationships and being in vet in his small town, they are all up in his business with trying to help him. This is who he ends up being the bachelor in the small town versus of the dating television show. He isn’t a fan of this idea from the start, but when his best friends sister and his friend, Olivia, suggests she joins as a contestant to help him out until the end it’s a no brainer.
I love the chemistry that Sawyer and Olivia have. And Sawyer…..that man and his mouth, I’m a fan. Seriously, was not expecting it from him when I started this book. I love Olivia, she is back in the small town of Vaughn after a divorce but she is strong. She is just a character that you can’t help but love.
This was just a fun story to read and you can’t help but smile while reading it.
If you’re looking for a small town, brothers best friend, friends to lovers, fake relationship rom com this one to check out.
First off, I love a book that’s starts with a family tree! I like knowing all the players and their relationships. Having the names ahead of time makes it so much easier for me to get into a story.
As a fan of the Bachelor/Bachelorette, I really liked LoveVine’s version and Sawyer made a great reluctant bachelor.
Sawyer, has been best friends with Jaxon (Olivia’s brother) since they were kids so he and Olivia have known each other just as long. They never aligned when they were younger but both had fleeting crushes during college. When Olivia offers to be Sawyer’s “ringer” in the LoveVine contest, she does it to help out a friend who has no desire to date or be a bachelor with 12 women vying for his attention.
Obviously, helping out a friend is not where this story ends. Olivia and Sawyer are forced to spend time together and “pretend” to be interested in each other so that Sawyer doesn’t have to lead anyone else on. Naturally that brings out a brand new version of their friendship that is perfect.
This is my first Amy Alves book and I loved it! I cannot wait to see which Vaughn brother will be the first to fall in the next book. Now excuse me while I go read the Landry series. I am especially looking forward to learning more about Sean and Sadie since she had such a big part in this book.
Release Date: September 29, 2022 Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🔥 Scene: After Bowling 🎳 (but also literally everything out of Sawyer’s mouth was 🔥🔥🔥)
4.5 stars! Bubble butt & dark hair = all I see is Henry Cavill as Sawyer. I have to say, Sawyer’s unluckiness in love is so damn endearing, and I laughed at loud so many times while reading about the dates he went on. Definitely a slow burn, but the tension and incredible banter between Olivia and Sawyer makes it oh so worth it. Also, Sawyer is a dirty talked and I loved every second of it. Such a fun, super steamy read! *I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I received this book as an ARC for an honest review. First of all, I devoured this book, stayed up all night because I couldn’t put it down. Small town, fake romance, brother’s best friend - Olivia is a divorced woman with trust issues because of her cheating ex and Sawyer has the worst luck with dating and love, as in crazy, disastrous outcomes. He’s the next bachelor in the small town’s version of “The Bachelor” and he’s dreading it but doesn’t want to back out because of the money it will raise for his favorite charity. Olivia devises a plan for her to be a fake contestant and his scapegoat so he doesn’t actually have to date anyone. Sparks fly and their chemistry is off the charts and everything becomes “real” very quickly. But Olivia’s trust issues about seeing him “date” the other contestants and Sawyer’s fear of what might happen if he commits to a relationship puts a damper on their “exclusive friends with benefits” arrangement. Olivia wants it all and Sawyer has to decide if he’s ready to take the leap regardless of his “bad luck.” Sawyer is a dirty talking veterinarian with to die for dimples. HEA, lots of lol moments and tons of spice make this a 5 star ⭐️ read!!!!
this book was so cute! from the first chapter, i was already so into the book! i have read the first couple books from Amy's other series, Landry Love (go check those out, they're just as good!! also on KU 😉) i really loved the main character Olivia, she was sassy and knew what she wanted, and straight forward with it! Definitely sprinkled with spice and dirty talk 🥵 I really love what Amy has done with her small town, heart-warming romances, seriously must-read books! recommend to those who love shows like the bachelorette or the bachelor!!
Amy Alves never fails to deliver a good read, and this latest is no exception! I’ve been WAITING for Sawyer’s story and it did not disappoint! Anytime you need a pick me up, anytime, pick up Alves’ books. Stella scares me, but if not for her? I’d totally move to Landry! Or Vaughn! Alves’ small towns and the folks who live there have you wanting to pack your bags and move! Her stories are filled with emotion: laugh, cry, scream, swoon…it’s like cardio for your heart!
Such a fun and sexy book. Brother’s best friend, forbidden, dating show, fake dating, small town, nosey people, fun friends and so much chemistry. Olivia is back home after her divorce, she’s getting her life back on track and also crossing paths with Sawyer, her brothers best friend, also her old young crush. Their friendship has always been good, but he’s being thrust into a dating show against his wishes, and they come up with a plan.
This was fun, entertaining and so sexy. These two were so good together!!!! Love seeing the cameos from the other books in this one and all the new characters. Looking forward to more!
• Brothers best friend • small town romance • fake dating
Spice level: 3.5 but due to the dirty talk involved, I would gladly give this one a 4.
Olivia, newly divorced, returned to her hometown and joined a small town dating show with the “Bachelor” being Sawyer who is her brothers best friend. What could go wrong? Or right? Did I also mention that Olivia joined as a ringer? Aka a fake contestant that Sawyer could choose by the end of the show? But of course things don’t always go according to plan especially when they both start falling for each other.
Ahh, I absolutely adored this book and the MC’s. It was definitely unputdownable and I was smiling/laughing almost entirely throughout. Sawyer and Olivia are definitely my new ship!! This book is highly recommended if you’re into some light, fun, spicy, and fast read.
This was ridiculously cute and mildly crazy 😝 I’m so glad Sawyer got his happy ending!! After his disastrous luck in Landry, he finally found the perfect woman.
If this book is anything to go by, I have a feeling the future shenanigans in Vaughn are going to be wild.
I am sooooooooo happy that we got a story for Sawyer and that it was a HEA for him!!! Sawyer had a horrible dating history and he deserved some redemption! I fell in love with Sawyer in the first book he was in with Willa in The Forever Plan. Then throughout the series he was the quintessential gorgeous bachelor that I so badly wanted to get a HEA. It was perfect that his story includes his best friends and a story of best friend’s little sister. I also loved that the Landry Love Series continued 🤣. This book was everything I expected and more!!
This is what every rom-com should be. Equal parts swoony and spicy, peppered with hijinks and hilarity.
Veterinarian, Sawyer Fletcher, seems unlucky in love. He just wants to open his new practice and be left alone. But the town of Vaughn have him selected to be their new Bachelor in LoveVine.. think The Bachelor but in a small town scale. Sawyer’s best friend’s little sister, Olivia, has just moved home and is ready to move on from her disastrous marriage when she agrees to help Sawyer and be his “fake” main girl in the contest. Only, the more time they spend together, the more they actually really like each other.
Sawyer is the perfect gentleman (with perfect dirty talk) that has shitty luck. Anything that can go wrong on a date, will go wrong. Olivia is hoping that her help will break his cycle of bad luck. I loved these two main characters. Olivia has learned what she wants and what she deserves and she is not afraid to take it. Sawyer seems hesitant due to past dating escapades. Throw in nosey townsfolks, meddlesome mothers, and protective brothers and you have the perfect recipe for a fantastic book. I definitely recommend this book and hope that the next one that comes out is one of Olivia’s brothers… either Jaxson or Brody.
I've been reading a lot of dark romance so this was a nice change in pace! I love the brothers best friend trope...even better when there's more than one brother! I did find it a little cliche that both of them had feelings to begin with-I think it could've been more fun if only one had prior feelings and the other one got there through the experience, but either way-super cute!
Whew, I have not given a 5 star review in a long time! I just loved this one though. Sure, the whole small town reality show thing was a bit far fetched but Sawyer and Olivia falling in love was not. Ooooo, and his dirty mouth was awesome.
3.5 stars. This book was cute here and there. I wont lie, it took me a while to be on board and to get into the book. But after a while, it grows on you. Don't get me wrong, it's not my favourite but I did enjoy part of it. I liked how Olivia was open and known to be jealous. She didn't take anyone's shit and was willing to cut people off bcs of it. Queen shit and I can relate to that so much. Sawyer was an ok love interest. I liked how he was a vet. Poor guy had such shit luck with dating. It was annoying how he couldn't commit to her in fear he'd fuck it up. Like you're already doing all the dating shit, what's stopping you from putting a label on it? He was just annoying and made it seem like he didn't want anything serious from Olivia. But overall, they were cute together. They had good chemistry and was more into dirty talk than I thought??? Like their foreplay with words was already more kinky than most fluffy romance books, but the smut was good I guess.
Overall, it was a decent. Better than the other books I got during the stuff your kindle weekend. The characters were decent and the plot was ok. The ending was just a big misunderstanding and Lowkey kinda stupid. I feel like just based on what I read, I didn't understand how she could interpret what happened in that house as something else. Anyways, it was just annoying.

don’t you just love fake till you make it? Okay, so it’s more fake it until we fall inlove 😂🖤 this was my first but it won’t be my last honestly.
Great story, amazing characters and great plot. Yes, it a friends to lovers , with the fake relationship in between but they are so freaking good at being a couple that you would not feel like they are JUST friends.
Olivia has the biggest heart, but her personality shines through. She wants to protect her best friend and at the same time befriends girls within the completion that I honestly know for a fact she didn’t expect to!
and don’t even get me started on Sawyer, he’s this big shot guy just trying to be a bachelor when he gets roped into being the next bachelor, what he didn’t expect was to make every date with his best friend actually succeed. She fell hard, but he fell harder and faster and I FUCKING LOVE THAT! Especially because they both thought neither would reciprocate for a good part of the book.
Even the secondary characters where great, like the small town vibes gets me everytime but the meddling and gossip was hot and present and I loved that with all my heart!!
THE REVIEW FOR THE BOOK: Falling for the Bachelor GENRE: Contemporary Romance AUTHOR: Amy Alves TROPE: contemporary romance, best friends’ brother, small-town romance, fake dating TYPE: Standalone MY RATING: 4.5 Stars POV: Dual POV
Sawyer is the town's veterinarian. He’s had the attention of The League for years. Wanting to set him up on dates and get him to settle down. He’s trying to focus on his job and stay away from the meddlers. The League decides to sign up Sawyer for their town’s version of The Bachelor
This story was hilarious right from the start. I love the idea of a reluctant bachelor and all of the crazy drama that he gets up to on those dates. This book was funny, romantic, and light-hearted. A great easy romance read.
Run! Don't walk! Pick this small town romance up immediately. I loved everything about this story. Sawyer was so swoon worthy,I couldn't help but fall in love with his kind, compassionate and awkward personality. Then there's Liv our protagonist. She is a badass. I just loved how real and sassy she was. These two characters worked so well together. I can't wait to read more stories by Amy Alves. I'm in love with her writing style.
Falling for the Bachelor is a perfect read for small town, rom-com fans! This was just what I needed to get me out of my reading slump. It's fun, flirty, and funny! Plus, who doesn't love a dirty-talking veterinarian?! This was my first Amy Alves book, but it definitely will not be my last! I loved this book from the beginning to the end. Definitely recommend!
Ok Miss Amy Alves.... This book was freaking amazing and I need to have a physical copy STAT! lol! I finished this book in one day and I absolutely LOVED it! I was literally chuckling out loud that I think that people at work were wondering if I was okay or not. There were so many parts of this book that had me chuckling out loud and that I loved so much and then there were also "awww" moments and then there were " Holy S**T I need to cool off" moments. This is a story about Sawyer and Olivia (Liv) and they have known each other basically forever. He is her brothers best friend and Sawyer never really saw her as anything except his best friends little sister. Olivia moves back to her hometown after her divorce with her crappy husband and since her town is so small she is the talk of the town. Another person who is also the talk of the town is Sawyer because he has been roped in to do a Bachelor type show that the small town is doing to help him find the love of his life. Sawyer is not really feeling the idea of this and really doesn't want to do this but he ends up doing it because it will give money to the charity of his choice. Olivia gives Sawyer the idea of finding someone to be his ringer. A ringer is someone who is on the inside and can help him throughout this show. This person would be the one he would choose for solo dates and who he would constantly give the flower to at the ceremony. Olivia volunteers to be that for Sawyer since they are super comfortable with each other and are friends. They soon realize how hard it is because they start falling for each other very quickly because they both find the each other attractive and they just like being with them all the time. It makes it difficult for the both of them because Sawyer has to continue with this dating show even though he wants to be with Olivia and Olivia is hating seeing him with other women on these solo dates that they thought he got to pick out but the town coordinator of this show had other plans. Anyway the solo dates that poor Sawyer has to go on always go terribly wrong and something always happen like having his first date go to the ER or the second one where the restaurant they are at sets on fire. There is so much that happens in this book and I loved every minute of the chaos that happened and every sweet moment and spicy moment. I loved Olivia and Sawyers relationship throughout this book and how they finally realize they are in love with each other. I just love Amy Alves books so much and will be reading more of her books in the future. This book is going on my Amazon Wishlist because I need to have it!!!!

Falling for the Bachelor is a sweet and steamy rom-com that will have you laughing, hoping, screaming and sighing. Amy’s writing will draw you in with her wonderful characters, witty banter, small town shenanigans, nosey neighbors, and all the feels.
A standalone spin-off of the Landry Love series, Dr. Sawyer Fletcher is a veterinarian, successful in his career but not in love. With no exaggeration, his dating history is pretty pathetic. The residents of Vaughn relentlessly pursue Sawyer until he reluctantly agrees to be “the bachelor” of the town’s very own dating show. He only succumbs because the money raised by ticket sales will go to his favorite charity, and is nothing but doom and gloom with no hope for a love match.
After telling his sad tale to Olivia Vaughn, the younger sister of his best friend who is newly divorced and back in their hometown working as a mid-wife, the two conspire to help each other out. Their chemistry is off the charts, and although they have no plans for falling for each other, there isn’t much they can do to stop it from happening.
The town is aptly named after our heroine’s lineage, and her brothers and both of their mothers are a hoot. I loved the entire book from beginning to end which was loaded with ghost pepper hot steamy scenes. Amy Alves can sure write some smexy times...against a wall, in the shower, the bowling ally, in his truck, and so on and so on. My glasses were steamed up half the time with his dirty talk!
But what makes their relationship so special is how they naturally connected as adults and understood each other. She was no longer the younger sister, but a beautiful woman who made him laugh and feel like he could get through all the rough patches with her by his side. Both were vulnerable and their confidence took a blow from past relationships, but they were there for each other, day in and day out, healing and moving on.
Loved how Liv was caring, strong, and sensitive and wouldn’t settle for less than she deserved. They hit a rough patch toward the end, but thankfully Sawyer saw the light and got his head out of his cute rock hard butt, and made our girl swoon with a very satisfying HEA.
Falling For the Bachelor is why I read romance. I loved all the twist and turns, and routing for the characters as they work through their issues and realize the right person was right in front of them all along. Can’t wait for more!
Meddling small town romance ramps up to a whole new level in this best friend’s sister, (kind of) fake relationship bachelor romance. Nevermind blind dates and avoiding being set up with the kids of your parent’s friends, Sawyer Fletcher finds himself backed into a corner to participate as the Hometown Hottie in the town’s version of The Bachelor. A live and live-streaming dating event used to raise money for charity. This year is bigger and better (or worse, depending on where you’re standing) as Sawyer’s current town and his neighboring hometown join together to find him his forever.
Unfortunately for Sawyer, and everyone else involved, he is a disaster when dating. Not your normal disaster but a “Call the ambulance, trip to the ER, would you like to press charges” kind of disaster. So after a chance run-in with his friend’s little sister, back in town and recently divorced, he decides to bring in a ringer. Someone he can use to fend off the unwanted advances of the other contestants and fake a romance with until the contest is over.
Meanwhile, Olivia jumps at the chance to dispel the rumors being circulated by her ex-husband without having to actually get into a relationship with someone new. The flimsy excuse that this will work just fine because they’re not interested in each other goes out the window pretty quickly, as it does.
Falling for the Bachelor was a fun read. It is a very plot driven story with next to no angst. Sawyer’s dating history and exploits for the contest were hysterical and so over the top you can’t help but picture them in real life. Oliva’s marriage and the ending thereof was so relatable, as was the face-saving and ex-wife shaming that followed.
One thing I really appreciated about this book was the fact that their falling in love wasn’t a sudden thing. It wasn’t “Oh, look, I love her and we’re riding off into the sunset” rainbows and kisses. They both had baggage to unpack and weren’t always able to meet in the middle and meet each other’s needs, despite their best efforts. The thing that drove a wedge between them and happily ever after wasn’t an external force, wasn’t a lack of communication, it was just two people not quite in the same place which I think is seriously underrepresented. It also made it all the more satisfying at the end.
