Geoff Radcliffe is having a mid-life crisis just in time for the holidays. He goes into a tailspin after hearing from his first love, picks up a stranger who locks him out of the house in nothing but his pants, and then he gets up the courage to go get rid of his grey, and the colorist refuses to 'do' Geoff's hair!

But Abe Golden, thrilled that the hunky silver-tipped guy has admitted he's gay, does 'do' him, taking him home for the hottest night of Geoff's life. After three heavenly days of smoking hot sex, Abe has done the unimaginable: he's fallen in love. And when he finds out that Geoff has been using him to practice for another man, Abe is at first heartbroken... and then he plots how to show Geoff the value of combining silver and gold.

Silver and Gold is the first book I've read written by Devon Rhodes, and it definitely won't be my last! Although there were times I wanted to strangle Geoff with his shoelaces, I still liked him, and in the end, I really liked Geoff and Abe together.

Geoff is a middle aged man who is really just starting to open himself up to his homosexual feelings. I did understand why he was nervous and excited to try to rekindle a relationship with his old friend, but once he met Abe I kept wondering why in the world would he want anyone but him?

I loved Abe. He's fun and flirty and I enjoyed every word that was written about him. I loved the dialog that went between him and his friend, Kim, who also happens to be Geoff's employee. I think Abe would have been a fun character to create and write, because I know I loved reading about him. There were times I thought that Abe might have been too good for Geoff, but in the end I really liked them together. To me, this book had a more HFN ending than a HEA, but it still ended on a very uplifting and positive note and I definitely appreciated that!

I'm looking forward to reading more by Devon Rhodes. I liked her writing voice and I'm hoping to see more of Abe and Geoff in the future. I would love to see how their relationship develops as time goes on.

I really liked this story about an older man, Geoff, who has recently gone through a divorce when he hears from his first love, Jesse. They arrange to meet up in their hometown for a weekend.

Geoff finds himself wanting to return to his youth - and Jesse, even though the other man left him for a woman twenty years ago. Geoff wants to look his best and attempts to get the gray in his hair touched up. The colorist, Abe, refuses and asks Geoff out instead. Abe quickly falls for Geoff but is bitterly disappointed when Geoff still seems to be fixated on Jesse.

When Geoff finally comes to terms with his past - and Jesse - the emotional reunion with Abe is very warm and sweet. I'd like to read more about these two very different characters and how they adjust to their new life as a couple.

4.5 stars ~ Wonderful story with heart, laughter and even tears. But it is, most of all, a coming-of-age tale as well as a beautiful romance. I would love to see more of Abe and Geoff... and Kimberly, what a riot she is!

Ms. Rhodes you've done it again!

3.5/5.0

Silver and Gold had the feel of a May/December story but Geoff is just 40 and Abe is 30. Geoff is a bisexual man that has recently gone through a divorce. His first love, Jesse is also divorced now and has contacted him. It has been decades since they have seen one another. The way the relationship ended when they were young was heartbreaking for Geoff, yet he still want to see Jesse. They agree to meet when they are both home for Christmas. In the mean time Geoff decides to seek out some male company. The first attempt goes terribly wrong and his assistant Kim is witness to it when she is called to pick him up. She then introduces him to Abe, her friend and hairdresser. I really liked Abe. He is a very sweet character. Geoff is awkward and misses a lot of cues from Abe in his turmoil over seeing Jesse again. Even though Kim is a good friend to Abe,I was not comfortable with her telling Abe about what happened to her boss, Geoff, even if it was a lead in to setting them up. Over all, this is a nice holiday story that moves very quickly and I was happy to have read it.

4.5 stars rounded up to 5.0

Geoff Radcliffe is a successful businessman who is recently divorced. His first love - and the only male lover Geoff has ever had - recently emailed asking to see him over the holidays. Geoff's life is a little haywire: he's in the midst of a mid-life crisis, he picks up a stranger who locks him out of the house in nothing but his pants, and his sexy colorist (Abe) refuses to color his grey hair. Abe Golden is a 30-year-old successful salon owner. He's attracted to the hunky Geoff and entices him on a dinner date. The two hit it off and spend the next three days heating things up between the sheets. Unfortunately, Abe realizes that he's totally fallen for Geoff right before Geoff heads off to his parents for the holidays ... and a rendezvous with his first love, Jesse. After overhearing Geoff's telephone conversation with Jesse, Abe is convinced that his feelings are not reciprocated and that Geoff is just using him to practice for the main event. Ouch! When Geoff finally comes to his senses about Abe, he must set much to right to have a shot at his HEA.

I loved this story. Abe is my abso FAVE!!! He is mouthy and sassy but so sweet and lovable. I loved Geoff too but man was he stupid. He's lucky Abe was so forgiving. I doubt I would've been. Which brings me to my one gripe: everything wraps up too neatly and too quickly in the end. This is the second book I've read by Devon Rhodes but it will not be my last. I really enjoy her writing style and the characters she creates. (Kim, Geoff's admin assistant and Abe's friend, was funny and a nice addition to this story.) I just wish there was more plot development. As an aside, I thought the silver and gold Christmas presents were especially touching!

Bottom line: an angsty but super sweet read about a May-December Christmas romance. Recommend!

I struggled a little with this at first. I just wasn't feeling it, but I kept going in hope and I wasn't disappointed.

Geoff was sweet and I understood his want to go back in time.

Abe was cute and fun.

Geoff and Abe together were when things really picked up for me. The emotions when Abe overheard the phone call had me reaching for the tissues and after that it was a race to get to my HEA.

Slow start but worth the wait.

I didn't go into this book with very high expectations, which always helps, I suppose, and I found myself absolutely charmed. I loved it, loved the writing style, loved the characters. I pretty much just wish it had been longer. It was my first read by this author, and I guarantee it won't be my last.

I think I liked the concept more than the end result. I mean silver fox meets golden (man) boy and sparks will fly right up until their happily ever after, right? Well, maybe if you’re anyone except Geoff, because clearly Geoff couldn’t see the forest for the trees and kept hoping for a maybe (old flame) vs. what was right in front of him (Abe). He finally figured it and redeemed himself, but only after hurting Abe’s feelings.

It's a cute and entertaining short story. The pacing was a bit off at times. They fall into bed lightning fast and the I-love-yous are also rather untimely, but I can excuse that in a story of this length.
Other than that there's a bit more drama than I usually enjoy, but it kinda fits the slightly over the top style of the book.

Just No! The quick fall into love, the almost unhinged response to the false perception that one MC didn't live the other makes me wonder about tha Author.

I was teased by the cover of this book since I like some Silver Romance here and there, and also a good and nice May/December relationship. And so the story of the older businessman who enters an hairdresser saloon to have his grey hair touched up, and instead finds himself in bed with the young hairdresser was really a good teasing. After reading it, I can say that the story is good and nice, perfectly in theme with the season, but it’s not either a Silver Romance or a May/December one.

Geoff, the businessman, is barely 40 years old, so really to young to be a Silver Romance hero, and Abe, the hairdresser, is 30, so yes, maybe there is a slightly age difference, but Abe is not exactly the twink that usually is in the role for being the May side of the relationship. The impromptu of the story is both original and one that makes you think: when Geoff was in college he was in love with a fellow student, Jesse. For Geoff, a late bloomer, Jesse was the first love and someone he has never forgotten, even if Jesse not only dumped Geoff to marry a woman, but he also cheated him with that woman when they were together. So, to the majority of people, Jesse should be not an happy memory, but as usual, you can’t really forget your first love. Geoff ran away and married himself a woman, it’s not clear if that woman knew of Geoff’s homosexual experience or not, in any case the marriage was good but maybe a little cold, they were more best friends than lovers, and when it ended, with the woman really falling in love with another man, they divorced without drama. Now Geoff has heard from Jesse, divorced himself, and it’s planning a reunion for Christmas.

After all the years spent in a “comfortable” marriage, Geoff is not used to look to himself with a critic eye, and so he wants to change, he wants to look younger, young as he was the last time he met Jesse. It’s impossible, and Geoff probably doesn’t realize that he gained something with the age, an aura of success and independence that is like honey for bees. Abe not only decline to cover up the silver on Geoff’s hair, but he practically tricks Geoff in going out for dinner, and from that moment on, they were inseparable. What started as a Christmas fling, at least from Geoff’s side, but also from Abe, I didn’t have the idea that at first was nothing more for him, deepens in a good relationship with possibility, but Geoff’s meeting with Jesse is near, and it’s hard for Abe to fight with a 20 years long lasting memory.

As I said the story is nice, probably I felt like they were in bed and having sex a bit too soon, but on the other side Abe had to convince Geoff that he was making a mistake with Jesse, and he had only three days to do that. Another thing that made me wonder was Geoff’s role in bed: from what we know of him at the time of his relationship with Jesse, he didn’t struck me as a full top, more, I would have bet for him to be a bottom, the shy and geeky guy who looks upon to the jock who was Jesse. And instead with Abe he is always on top, like if with the age, he also gained another role in the sex play… maybe the reason is also that Abe comes out like a really emotional character, someone who can be easily hurt and who inspires protective feelings.

I don’t know, I think it could be interesting to see what it will be of this relationship, something of nice there is for sure, but I think both men have yet to really test it with life and time.

Geoff has recently gone through a divorce and is surprised when he hears from Jesse, his first love. Years ago, Jesse left him for someone else, and since then, Geoff hasn't been with another man. Now, with this renewed contact, Geoff worries about seeing Jesse again now that he's older. Abe Golden, a colorist, refuses to dye Geoff's silver-tipped hair. Instead, he asks Geoff out, and the two begin a tentative relationship. Geoff will have to decide whether he wants to return to his past or make a future with Abe.

I like May-December stories, and this one is going on the list as one of my favorites. It isn't a long story. It's only around 70 pages, but Rhodes does a great job conveying Geoff's insecurities and Abe's concerns. I hope that we will get to see these two again in another story. I'd love to see how their future unfolds.

The premise was cute, but I wasn't too fond of a couple of characterizations.

Geoff is anticipating a Christmas meeting up with his teenage love, Jesse. Worried he's not going to make a good impression he sets about brushing up.

Abe is the charming colorist who convinces Geoff that erasing the gray he's sporting is a very bad idea.

There are some missteps along the way and a few embarrassing moments for Geoff that his executive assistant Kim seems to be blessed to witness. That said, she comes across as a gossipy and maneuvering bitch--not a favorite pastime of mine. Finally, Geoff had one TSTL moment that just made me go seriously! *smacks head

I confess I was a bit cautious about this book, I wasn´t sure the age difference was going to work.
Well, it works perfectly. It just flows, is not something that the characters take hugely into consideration so there is no drama over it.
Yes Geoff stops and thinks about if for like 5 minutes but he moves pass it.
I had mixed feelings over Jesse and Geoff reunion One moment I was thinking "Yes, just go do it and see what you were missing" and two seconds later I was all "Don´t, don´t do it! Do not kiss him!" LOL
All because of a certain boy, Abe. So sweet, I want to keep him.

OK, I will admit that the cover was what caught my attention! I love to read about mature men finding true love later in life... although, Geoff was pretty much only mature in years, he had some major growing up to do and issues from his youth to deal with! In this story, the somewhat younger guy, Abe, was the mature, adult male! Yes, things moved quickly! Yes, things got confusing! And, yes, we all wanted to kick Geoff in the butt for not seeing what was right in front of him! But, good news... all ends well... EVENTUALLY! ;D

Silver and Gold is cute story about a bi-guy, Geoff, who meets a hairdresser, Abe, and they clumsily attempt to form a loving relationship. This is the first book by Ms. Rhodes that I've read and I like her clean writing style. The characters are flushed out, but I didn't care too much for Geoff. He struck me as someone that I wouldn't trust. I think Abe could have done better.

I give Silver and Gold four stars.

A nice holiday short with a play on the older/younger theme. A heavy dose of insta-love and a rushed story took away much of the romance for me though.
