Leigh Makes Three

Rate this book
They say good things come in threes, but Leigh Sullivan doubts her twin brother would agree if he knew she had fallen for his best friend, Wes Adams. It wasn’t her fault though.

Of course, Leigh always had a crush on Wes throughout college. They were kindred spirits; he was a genuinely good guy and being attractive, tall, and blond didn’t hurt either. They even shared one secret, drunken pool table kiss that was never spoken about again. But, five years post-college, she hadn’t given him much thought until he walked into her office as her new co-worker. To add to her all-consuming thoughts, Leigh’s twin is getting married, so being around Wes 24/7 and trying to deny the sexual tension between them is harder than she thought.

Now Leigh has to play an internal game of tug-of-war between her brain and her heart—but don't they say the heart always wins?

This book is excellent and just what I needed it to be! The ideal combination of pleasant and seductive? And all I have to add is that this author creates some of the best and most realistic sexy scenes I've ever read.

I found this book to have the correct pace and was completely engrossed from start to finish. Leigh and Wes were able to swiftly overcome this by relying on their sentiments at precisely the correct time. It is evident that they have a communication difficulty as well as some outside concerns they need to address.

The two major characters' conversation was top notch. Although they struggle to hide their anxiety, they largely succeed in doing so. Their annoyance was palpable to me as well, and I wanted to yell at Owen to stop interfering with their lives.

Overall, it was a quick read with a juicy, light romance. Even a flaw I spotted, however I believe you can still overlook.

This was such a fun and entertaining read!! I absolutely loved Leigh and Wes, but I want Wes for myself.... He is all the green flags, so open with his feelings and quick to communicate (most of the time). The banter between these two was so hilarious, it had so many good one liners and inside jokes! No third act break up which is so appreciated as well.

I also LOVED the friends and family, I want a friend like Emma so bad 🫠

I definitely recommend this book if you are looking for a fun rom com read and if you love the brothers best friend trope and long term crushes as well as a bit of workplace romance!

This book is a great read - everything that I needed it to be! The characters are so likeable - Leigh, Wes, Emma, Owen, Katie, the entire family… their bond was so sweet and the love story was one for the ages. Seriously, where can I find a Wes? The perfect combo of sweet and sultry? All I can say is that this author writes a mean sexy scene - one of the best I've ever read - and this is a perfect book if you're looking for a light read that'll make you smile, want a boyfriend as perfect as the main character, and root for love. A solid 4 stars! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

How I thoroughly enjoyed this book, honestly it’s one of my favourite reads this year. The characters are all so likeable and the friendship and family dynamics are a delight. The chemistry between Wes and Leigh is next level. If you adore a brothers best friend, college crush and the perfect sexual chemistry then this is the book for you.

Adorable “brother’s best friend” romance

This was a cute and easy read that just pulls you right along! I especially loved Leigh’s friendship with Emma and how they always were able to turn would-be boring adult scenarios into something fun and memorable. And Wes is hot.😏

Twins Leigh & Owen. Loving and close as brother and sister could ever be.
Wes is Owen's best friend.
Emma is Leigh’s best friend.

This is a wonderful & beautiful love story! It’s sweet, spicy and written in a way that’s just so intoxicating but not at all cringeworthy. It gives you those good all over feelings, leaving you unable to put it down and stay up all night long to finish. I never wanted it to end, I could have continued reading about their love story daily!

This is what most like myself dream of having. The characters, friends, families are all so enjoyable and loveable!

Thank you so much to Grace for my free copy! I loved every minute of it.

I think this book was good but it could have been better. I loved the brother's best friend trope but i couldn't figure out the chemistry between the two MCs. I feel like it could have been perfect with his POV too!

4/5 ⭐️
4/5 🌶️

Four- jaw on the floor because this is the author’s debut novel- stars for this gem of a story!

One sentence summary:
Leigh and Wes are soulmates but they have to go through some years apart bc Leigh’s twin Owen is a baby and the two of them are honestly both a little immature about it (the twins), but 9 years after they first meet L & W work things out and finally become Wesleigh, and also Emma is a 5/5 supporting character. Whew, deep breath.

I went in with low expectations after finding this randomly on KU and I really am shocked by how much I enjoyed this! It’s well written, has great characters, a fun albeit rather privileged setting, tasteful and hot smut, tons of sweet banter and real chemistry.

•There a smidgen of OW drama, but not really
•Low angst.
•The conflict could have been resolved quicker with better communication, but oh well.
•Nothing really sad- talk about a mom who passed from cancer though 💔
•Good imagery, although some teensy plot holes we won’t dwell on.

But I had to give it -1 whole star just because I wasn’t crazy about the main conflict with Owen, tbh. And really, there wouldn’t have been much of a story without said conflict, so I’ll still take it. And the author did a decent enough job really showing why it was such a difficult thing for Leigh to talk to Owen about. BECAUSE Owen, you’re kind of a dick man. So yeah, one star loss there but otherwise, I ate this UP.

Leigh and Owen are twins.
Wes is Owen’s best friend.
Owen has always warned his friends off Leigh, and warned Leigh against dating any of his friends.

Leigh and Wes are attracted to each other, but don’t act on it out of deference to Owen.
Then Wes moves to work at the company where Leigh has been working for some years, and things start to change.
They manage to keep a lid on their feelings until Owen announces that he’s getting married, and Leigh and Wes are thrown together more in the run up to the wedding, but they still try not to act on their feelings.

Their “almost” romance picks up pace, but very slowly, due to neither wanting to upset Owen.
The tension between them is hard to conceal, but they mostly manage to keep a lid on things.

On reading this story, I could feel their frustration, and wanted to shout at Owen to let them live their own lives. It seemed unfair to me that Owen was marrying the love of his life, but blocking Leigh and Wes’ possible future together.
I enjoyed reading this story of flirtation, that grows into a sometimes steamy romance, but whether they get Owen’s approval is another matter, and to find out, you’ll have to read the book!

Leigh has always had feelings for her twin brother’s best friend, Wes, but hasn’t seen him in the last five years. In fact, an “incident” on a pool table was something that they have never spoken about since they were in college. However, with her brother’s upcoming marriage and Wes’ new job at..where else?...her company, he has reentered her life. Does Leigh follow her heart or accept her brother’s wishes to stay away from his best friend?

This story was captivating for me from beginning to end and had the right pacing. It’s clear that there is a communication problem between Leigh and Wes and some outside factors they need to tackle, particularly with how they feel about each other, but they were able to quickly overcome this, acting on their feelings at just the right time. “Leigh Makes Three” had just the right amount of spice to it as well.

I’m not sure this was Ms. Pearce’s intention while writing, but it’s clear that love will come back if it’s meant to be and that it can conquer all (even despite Leigh’s brother’s wishes). This is a five-star read that will have you rooting for Leigh and Wes the whole time.

I want to thank Grace Pearce for providing a copy of her book for an honest review.

Okay so it took me a second to get into this book but once it got going I couldn’t put it down! I loved Leigh and could really identify with her anxious introspection (though I did struggle a bit with it initially). The friendship she has with Emma is an absolute treasure and only adds to the fantastic dynamics between Leigh, Wes and her twin Owen. Leigh’s mom reminded me of my own and her family was written a so well. Also, the banter was perfection!!

This book takes slow burn to a whole new level. The sexual tension radiated off every page and Wes has given all romantic male leads a high bar to meet. The spice is great! This is definitely not a closed door romance (thank you Grace). There was a fair amount of miscommunication but the build and development of Leigh and Wes’s relationship countered that so well for me.

I definitely recommend this book if you are looking for a spicy and fun read!

Tropes
-brothers best friend
-second chance romance
-miscommunication

So it was okay but there were some things that I didn't like. I'm very particular about my romance books so that's why the review is going to sound a bit harsh.

First of all, where is the yearning? The angst? The does he like me? From the start it was clear they both liked each other and the other knew that which sucks a bit for me because i like to wait for it. I like to watch it build slowly. And there was none of that. And that's the reason why i didn't feel butterflies when they kissed for the first time because it was too soon i didn't know these people to be invested in their relationship yet.

Then something that I REALLY hated was how they said in the book that only penetration counts like sex. Which makes me very angry as if oral sex or just touching each other isn't sex! It fucking is! And I get really angry when that is brushed off as not being sex. I thought we had progressed a little bit.

And finally Owen's reaction when he found out was so out of line like aren't they adults? Fucking act like it!

Apart from that it was okay the characters were lovable and Wes is a walking green flag which was really really nice and i enjoyed reading it for the most part.

Ms. Pearce is a new-to-me author so I wasn't sure what to expect when I requested this. The blurb sounded interesting, so I thought I'd give it a try, and I was not disappointed. The story was entertaining and well-written and caught my interest from the start and kept it all the way through.

All through college, Leigh had a crush on her brother's best friend, Wes. They even shared a kiss once, but that was never to be spoken of, because her brother basically forbade her from dating any of his friends. So despite the mutual attraction shared between Leigh and Wes, they never dared to act on it. Now Wes enters her life again as her co-worker and not only that, but she will have to see him at her brother's wedding. It will take everything in her not to act on her feelings, but will she be able to succeed?

Filled with angst, romance and steam, this was a well-paced story that kept me glued till the end. I enjoyed the characters and their interactions and had a great time reading this.

How is this Grace Pearce’s first book?!?
My first book completion of 2023 and it was a good choice!

What I liked: the character development, the setting of the scene, the depth the characters brought and the spice was nice. I could appreciate the build and thought it was nicely paced, the plots climax’s was a real life scenario and there was deep admiration for the couples live for each other. The embarrassing moments shared and zingers out of Leigh’s mouth made me relate to her even though I don’t have much really in common with her.

What I didn’t like: not much honestly….maybe Leigh’s life was a little too perfect with happy parents still together and the same best friend for literally her entire life. I also must have missed a description of her anywhere except her height once because I didn’t really know what I was supposed to be envisioning, but that’s all small potatoes for this stellar book.

I will be reading more Pearce in the future, thanks BookSirens for the ARC, it was a treat!

The story
Leigh Sullivan works in advertising in New York. She’s a twin (her brother Owen is 11 minutes older than her) and works with her best friend Emma. They grew up in a warm family home filled with love and spontaneous parties, and Leigh would love that kind of relationship for herself. When her brother’s best friend Wes starts working with her, her old feelings for him are definitely rekindled, but can Owen accept their relationship?

My thoughts
I love finding a new-to-me, debut author whose story “pops” off the page. There is a classic brother’s best friend situation, further complicated by the main characters working together. I loved how they get each other’s creative juices flowing. Leigh Makes Three has dialogue that’s zippy and fun and keeps the pace of the story moving swiftly. The story is very much an open door experience, with descriptions that don’t hold back. 🌶️🌶️🌶️

This has been a great and a got you feeling great as an after tastes. The main characters has overflowing chemistry and great banter and inside jokes (you wish you have this kind of friendship with a person that has the same humor/preferences code as you are!). Leigh and Wes and their circles of friends/family friends are so adorable and I couldn't help but a little bit envy because I want what they have!

The plot was flowing effortlessly and super easy to get into. Leigh and Wes has been attracted to each other and they even had their *THAT ONE PARTICULAR* moment that would change their relationship forever but their guilt over Owen aka Leigh's twin brother aka Wes' bestest friend stand before them–make it more interesting-one person unknowingly involved in-a love triangle. I absolutely love their way of flirting, seducing each other secretly (though it's obvious to everyone else except the brother), and the steamy scenes was hot! In love all the part of their love story journey, from the first met to the revelation and confessions.

P. S: Wes is a perfect book boyfriend! Where to find one?

Read from March 13th, 2023 to March 18th, 2023. Written on April 5th, 2023.

~4.5~

I do apologise for the delay on the review, but let's get to it!

So this book a great mix of amazing banter, great spice, sweet and relatable characters, good romance and an overall of a great story! It is funny, sweet and emotional, with great writing and great characters.

Though, as I mentioned, it has spicy moments, the book is incredibly light-hearted and with some great slowburn moments. Also, it doesn't just focus on the romantic aspect of the story, but also in friendships, family relationships and even work environments, and I love that in romance books.

This was a very easy book to read and I totally recommend it if you're into brother's best-friend, second chance, workplace, friends-to-lovers and maybe even more tropes that I may be forgetting! Grace Pearce did a brilliant job!

Leigh Makes Three will forever be recommended by me. I loved this book with every ounce. It was so easy to dive in and get lost. I do wish there was more of a background between the main characters from their first interaction but given it was about 8 years ago, it is understandable how it wouldn't be addressed as much. This is the first book I have read that has spicy scenes and I think it was perfect. It was written so well, it made me left wanting more. When reading the book from Leigh's perspective, I had butterflies when she explained how Wes made her feel. The interactions between them were so perfect. I think how she acted once she returned to New York is valid because Wes is her BROTHER'S BEST FRIEND. I can see how she would be afraid to get in the midst of her brother's and Wes' relationship. I wish Leigh would have been more understanding about Wes wanting to tell Owen but I appreciate Leigh's feelings and maturity growing towards the end of the book. Thanks to Booksirens and Grace for allowing me to read and review this.

Please, for the love of all that is holy, label a book as New Adult if it’s New Adult! I absolutely hated the characters in this book because I hate New Adult book characters. There is literally nothing redeeming about them. In fact, Leigh makes comment after comment about her mom taking care of her and her childhood home and blah blah blah. She is an actual child with no depth, unless you count how “cool” she was in high school and college. Wes isn’t much better, but is slightly more mature because he had a death in the family. These were the worst, most vapid characters I think I’ve read in a long time. And the protective older brother… one of my most hated tropes. Obviously, I knew it we had that in this book, but I naively thought, hey, twins! How bad can it be? Well, dear reader, it’s BAD. The book got an extra star for the spice, but I was feeling generous.

4.5 ⭐️! This one took me longer than I wanted as I had to keep putting it down to read ARCs but I couldn’t stop thinking about it and couldn’t wait to jump right back in!

Leigh has always had a thing for her twin brother’s best friend Wes and they even shared a kiss in college. Fast forward to years later, they end up working together at the same office and need to collaborate with many many late nights 😏. Then there’s Leigh’s brothers looming wedding and lots of forced proximity as they’re both in the wedding party. Will they be able to keep their hands to themselves? Or will they get a second chance?

This one was different than Grace’s second book The Ex List, which I am head over heels with. Definitely check that one out when it comes out 02.13! But it had the same magical feel of the characters fitting with each other and being meant to be. The mutual pining is so well done and then she adds in funny and witty banter. Just *chefs kiss* LOVED IT! Check it out on KU!

This is a quick and enjoyable read. The brother's best friend and forced proximity tropes are always fun, and the main characters are relatable. The situations that throw Leigh and Wes together are entertaining, and the humor that arises from them and from some of the secondary characters adds to the story's appeal. It lost a star from me because the pacing seems a little off--the tension is a bit lacking. Wes is, as expressed by more than one character, a great guy without any "bad boy" vibes regarding women, so it doesn't seem all that credible that the couple would fear a negative reaction from Owen. The final misunderstanding could also use a bit more development--it is resolved a bit too soon for me.

This book is just okay, in my opinion. The big thing that kept taking me out of the story is that I don't love the writing. It repetitive or drawn out- too many things listed that Wes does in the office, we don't need every movie the characters do or don't get right in heads up, etc. Anatomical correctness like glutes and trachea used in sexy scenes also just doesn't do it for me.
I also weirdly don't ship it. I'm not sure why. I love a best friends brother trope, I'm always down for some pining pre characters getting together, but something wasn't clicking. Maybe its just that there's nothing novel about it to keep it exciting. It's wildly predictable with no real tension or conflict built up?
Overall just a kinda meh story for me.

Ok Grace Pearce, you nailed it! This book was so dang good! It took me off guard tbh. I read tons and tons of romcoms and usually they’re adorable and enjoyable but tend to blend into each other in my memory. This book- which I absolutely hope will be a series because the side characters are fantastic (Emma)- had me cracking up, tearing up and fanning myself. Leigh, our heroine has low key been crushing on her brother’s best friend since they were in school, so when he becomes a co-worker, the tension is strong. Throw in some wedding planning for her brother’s big day, a friend team that has the best banter ever and some really impressive smut, and this book is may be one of the best romcoms I’ve read. It reminded me of Tessa Bailey works, but with a touch of authenticity that resonated with me. 4 ⭐️

Wes and Leigh have known each other for years. While there was definitely an attraction, there was also obstacles in their way.

I really enjoyed their story. They were like magnets: they were attracted but also hesitant and pulled back at times. Their relationship was founded on friendship and trust.

Even when they tried to keep their growing attraction secret, everyone around them knew (except one important person).

This storyline has moments of sweet, serious, goofy, funny and heat. You can’t help but root for Leigh and Wesley. I also really like Leigh’s best friend Emma. She’s just as crazy as Leigh can be at times.

This is a wonderful love story with all of the feels. I highly recommend “Leigh Makes Three”!
