i have high hopes for this book. i was a bit bummed by some of the activist-ideology the rhetoric assumes in the first essay and the lack of clarity in presenting the actual gesture/organization. there's an essay about fan fiction -- stuff created and based off a fictional universe (star trek, harry potter) that is independently produced and sold. the article discusses the potency of this act as well as possible legal implications. the book is also peppered with superflex projects (which is weird given that the text on the back says it's not a book about them) and other project sound-bites -- the adbusters blackspot sneaker. again, i'm pumped about the rest, just more than ready to question shaky logic and idealist assumptions.
Simultaneously dense and breezy, falling somewhat into the art book trap of having second rate essays on interesting subjects. Most useful perhaps is the survey of groups/projects working in the vein of self-organization. More a jumping-off point than a destination.
