When Amy is buried alive in her own back garden, she thinks she is going to die. She is beaten unconscious but fortunately, wakes up the next day still able to breathe. Managing to dig her way out, she vows revenge on those that buried her, for her and her young daughter’s sake. And what she has planned for them all would make being buried alive seem trivial in comparison… This story may be considered extreme horror. Do not read if easily shocked.
J. Boote is the alter-ego of Justin Boote, author of horror and dark fiction. J. Boote writes primarily extreme horror, not for the faint-hearted or easily offended.
This was my first book of Justin’s that I’ve read, and damn, I wasn’t expecting him to have such an evil mind!! This is a revenge story and it went full brutal from the very beginning, when we find Amy being buried alive in her garden, by her boyfriend Richard and friends. She manages to claw her way out, and exacts hella violence on those responsible before ‘reclaiming’ her daughter Sam from their clutches....but all is not as it seems!!!
This is one violent crazy read, full of torture, sexual violence, lots of blood and plenty of gore...with a few decapitations thrown in!!
I was lucky to have been sent this paperback all the way from Barcelona by Justin for winning one of his competitions, and I loved every bit of it. A must read for all those with a lust for blood, and an appetite for revenge!!
I love Justin's extreme horror books and this one is no exception! It kicks off with a brutal, hard hitting opening, and, well, continues that theme throughout! Upping the ante the whole way!
Amy is brutally attacked and buried alive in her garden! Want rid of your ex? Bury her in the garden, job done, never going to hear from her again right?? Well, yes, but not for long! And once she realises what's happened, who is involved and that her daughter is 'missing', she's understandably, intent on seeking vengeance…..very brutal, very sadistic vengeance!! Being in the sex industry and having a background in welding makes for some very interesting, very creative revenge indeed! 😉 There are hints at something being not quite right about her daughter from the beginning, but it's not revealed until the very end and keeps you guessing the whole time, building up the intrigue until you almost burst with anticipation, wanting to know the story!
This is an extremely savage and very descriptive narrative! I could physically feel a lot of it, it made my 'bits' cringe several times and there were a few WOAH out loud moments!! 😲😂 Unrelenting, unashamed brutality. Lies and deceit. Dark, dark secrets revealed. Evil plotting, and a man's hurt pride? Fast paced. Full of action, and blood….so much blood!
I was totally hooked from the beginning, and did not put this book down until I was done! I love how all of Justin's books have little nods to Northgate Hospital too, it gives you that feeling of familiarity, like you're settling in with an old friend!
I really felt quite sorry for Amy’s plight, even to the point of physically egging her on in her very depraved but very deserved revenge! And then, WOW!! When the true twist is revealed, it's absolutely heart wrenching stuff! I read the last 10% or so with my jaw hanging in shock…. and what a chilling end!
I'm not a claustrophobic person, but the beginning portion with our lead, Amy, being buried alive had me squirming around in my seat. I loved that initial set-up and the author made the most out of that plot point. This was very brutal and nasty and definitely was extreme horror, all of which was spot on. I loved the general theme of revenge and Amy was a captivating lead. I didn't, however, find my footing with the reason for the initial attack. I won't spoil anything, and I understood the eventual twist that happened, but it was a very weak reason for Richard and his comrades doing what they did to her. Unless I accidentally missed something, which is always possible, this needed to be clearer or more substantial. I also felt like the story became repetitive with the kills, and maybe could have focused more on Amy's PTSD and feelings on her daughter, Sam. Beyond that, J. Boote created something very visceral and entertaining here, which, I think, most horror fans will find at least one thing to enjoy here.
This is a fast paced gruesome revenge story. I was completely captivated from the first few sentences. The pace never drops, suiting the short novella length.
The story has a feel of good ole Slaughter Story, but in a style suiting a mature audience. This is perfected with Boote's signature tie in with Northgate, wich I really love!
Boote has succeeded with making his own universe with Northgate being the glue connecting every story in some way, even if it's just by mentioning the place, and no matter how long or short the story is, or how much Northgate is in the center or periphery, it instantly puts the story into a bigger picture.
I can nothing but recommend this story to horror fans, but be aware this is in the extreme end of the genre. It doesn't demand for the reader to have prior knowledge of Northgate, but nonetheless I can absolutely recommend reading the Northgate stories, to get to know the dark universe of the history of the institutions of the criminal insane and mentally impaired.
What if the people you loved, and thought were your friends buried you alive? What if the grave was too shallow and you were somehow able to rise from the ground? What is the first thing you would do? Well, if you're anything like Amy you would plot your vengeance. In this extreme tale of revenge Amy doesn’t even try to hold back. Thanks to J. Boote’s demented mind she takes them out one by one in the most horrific fashions. In ways most of us could never dream of. Buried is gruesome, bloody, violent and an absolute blast to read. I really couldn’t put it down I was so anxious to see what would happen next. There is more to the story than meets the eye as well, you will understand once you read it.
Pray that your partner hasn't read this book, just in case you treat her like crap at some point in the future.
A short revenge story full of engagingly brutal, but highly imaginative, torture and killing - total escapism, which kept me captivated from beginning to end.
Although rather unrealistic and quite basic at times, the detailed descriptions of events of a mildly sadistic nature more than made up for the obvious weaknesses in both plot and narrative.
The tale also contains a cleverly hidden twist which eventually convinced me to go with the 4 stars rather than 3.
All good fun and definitely recommended if a quick tale of murderous revenge is your type of thing.
“But still Amy wasn’t finished. She wanted a trophy. She had an idea that she had been thinking about since yesterday, and really, the garden did need tidying up. She thought it was a fitting tribute to what they had put her through.”
This book and Amy’s trophy’s will forever live in infamy in my head. A tribute to them will always be displayed proudly in my home. Let’s just say, cactus’s have become my favorite plant (what Duncan Ralston did for my now beloved traffic cones, J. Boote has done to cactuses…).
On the surface, this book struck an intensely personal cord, deep inside my soul. The Mother’s anguish. Her partner … a manipulative, abusive Deadbeat Dad. The Mother’s sweet symphony of revenge. The melody that swept me up in it’s discordant beauty and wouldn’t let me go… Until it did.
What would you do if you woke up buried alive, betrayed by those that you loved and trusted? What would you do if you couldn’t find your child once you clawed your way slowly to the surface of the living again?
As our dear protagonist said, “We’re going to live happily ever after!”
This is an unnerving tale of a woman who digs herself out of a grave in her backyard to seek revenge on the people trying to keep her away from her daughter…. And so much more!
Kicked and punched repeatedly, relentlessly, the pain vibrating through her body, put in a hole in her garden, soil entering her mouth, nostrils, ears, the group of man laughing, calling her obscenities, buried alive and left to die. Miraculously, Amy awoke, buried, confused, she started to move her toes, fingers, patience and revengeful thoughts allowed her to feel fresh air again. From the dim prison like a monster resurfacing. She planned her hate, the first victim a wife of the group of men, Amy with strap on a dildo with metal parts on the shaft and pump away at her purse prison. Amy will cut off her head. A garden fork through the eyes, puncturing the eyes to pulp. Another with his face blowtorched off. The flesh melting, dripping, hedious rubber mask-like. The smell of burning pork. Amy has buried suppressed memories however memories can't be buried forever.
As I have read all of this author’s more extreme work this one again doesn’t disappoint. A lady seeks revenge for being buried alive but the story is not quite that simple. Although the revenge is definitely the best part. This includes cactus dildos, debollocking with a rake and bleached eyes, just to name a few of my favourites. There is a nice twist. Also the author doesn’t shy away from slipping in little mentions of his other work including Northgate and a man who was found to be loving his dog too much. There was a definite feel of Rayne Havokesque writing during the torture scenes and as anyone who has read her books knows she is a master at this. The things that went on in this book should have disgusted me but instead I just found it more than intriguing because the writer comes out with such original and new ideas. There were also a few times it reminded of the film Kill Bill, in reference to the level of violence used. All in all an original twist on the classic revenge trope and one I could read again right now.
This book is worth every single star. Boote never fails to amaze with the creativity in his extreme stories. Grusome revenge and a special twist that I couldn't put down.
Just finished up BURIED by J Boote! This one started off with a bang and didn’t let up. Fast paced, it’s packed with plenty of creative kills 🌵and splatter! Plus, it holds an air of confusion that keeps you interested as everything comes together… Really enjoyed the ending!
When you wake up Buried, you want revenge. And you get it. But is the revenge you exacted what you thought it really was for? Or is something more sinister happening?

"Buried" by J. Boote. I was sent my copy in exchange for a honest review.
Amy Hunter awakens to find herself in one hell of a predicament. Buried alive with dildos shoved deep in both bottom orifices, she realizes things have taken a drastic turn since the previous night. Her only true thought is of her daughter Sam. Determined to get back to her, Amy claws her way to the surface.
This read starts off as your typical revenge story but it doesn't take long before it takes a serious left turn. This story is brutal and offers a serious mind fuck at the end. The revenge scenes included inside are incredibly depraved and I loved every second of it.
Hooooly crap, this book held my attention big time. The first chapter is an instant slap to the face, instantly violent and shock value with what happens to Amy. Think I spit on your grave vibes, this was an intense and detailed story. When Amy gets out of her makeshift grave she is not the same, but instantly you are rooting for her and you know me. Especially as she is a mom just trying to do what she could to support her daughter. Every chapter is centred around her desperation to see her daughter and her need for vengeance. I love a good revenge story, but something seems a tiny bit off about this. Especially after you read it from the point of view of the guy who buried Amy, Richard. I have to admit you will hate Richard and his friends who helped torture Amy. Justin really knows how to keep his readers on their toes. He keeps the pace nice and tight and draws you in with this intense storyline. This is my first experience with Justin's work and it was a thrilling ride. I enjoyed the horror and gore, it was insanely creative how Amy got her revenge on each person. But as the story goes on we see less of Sam and hints to Amy's dark past, even mentioning the fact that she was institutionalised. That unsettling feeling starts to grow in your gut, after each kill Amy commits. Until she finally gets to Richard to seek her revenge and that is when things really get twisted. When I tell you, you don't wanna miss this, I mean it.
Author J. Boote’s newest extreme horror story , Buried, introduces us to Amy, a woman scorned in the worst of ways. She is beaten, buried and left for dead by the very people she calls friends. There’s only one problem, she’s not dead and after clawing her way out of her garden grave she’s on the hunt for those who have wronged her. Amy’s vengeance is brutal and maybe a little imbalanced? As Boote often does, there’s another layer to this story when we find out Amy has a daughter that has been missing since her ordeal started. Where is her young daughter anyway? It seems that her “friends” may know a thing or two about the missing child and a past that Amy can’t quite remember. This is one of the most twisted revenge tales I’ve ever seen or read. Readers of extreme horror will certainly get their fill with this little tale.
Amy finds herself being abused and beaten by Richard, her boyfriend and several others who she can't identify. She's dragged to the backyard of her house and buried alive. She knows that she has to figure out a way to save herself and get back to her child. Finally she digs herself free and decides on a plan to find her child and get vengeance on all the people who helped Richard. The novella does have graphic violence and graphic sex with mutilation in it, so those who are sensitive to such things should avoid this book. J. Boote aka Justin Boote is a great horror novelist and now is reaching out to expand his writing towards other authors such as Matt Shaw, so if you like his work, please check out J. Boote's work.

Wow, just wow!! I finished this in one sitting because, well, it is a short story but also because I needed to find out how Amy Hunter got her revenge. Interesting ways. That’s all I am saying. You gotta read it for yourself. It is of the graphic nature, but hey, that is horror for you. An amazing story that is well-written and easy to read with twisty turns. Loads of fun, as always, with this talented author.
What a wild ride! This was a brutal, blood-drenched story of rage and revenge, with a twisted ending! The kills were super creative and disturbing, and I loved the contraption that the characters' cactus inspired lol.. if you know you know! 5/5 decapitated skulls 💀
This extreme story hits all the right buttons for a nasty, gory read. I love a good revenge tale, and this does not disappoint.
Amy is buried alive by her jealous ex who just can’t let go, and some other folks she thought were her friends aid him. She gets lucky, however, and even though she was savagely beaten, she manages to survive and dig her way out. After composing herself, she sets out for revenge and to get her daughter back.
This story is riveting, grisly, and has an ending you won’t soon forget.
This was a good little read about a young woman with a mind that is reeling from one thought only. That of her daughter! Her friends are with her one night as she over heard them talking and things begin to spiral. But where is her daughter her thoughts are mainly about her and the twisted thoughts she has to get her friends back. This book is full of plots and twists and keeps you entertained. A nice easy fast paced read to keep you captivated and enthusiastic for each page turn. Recommended.
The old bait and switch. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. I go into books blind to a degree but I usually like a story that is actually what it says it will be. I don’t mind an unreliable narrator but this one was by far one of the strangest. I also didn’t realize it was splatterpunk. Not a book I’d recommend to many people, but if you like gore, this one’s for you.
This was a page turning bloody journey of revenge. It kept you on the edge of your seat to see how far Amy would go to seek her own form of justice to get her daughter back and get back at her so called friends, who had buried her alive in her own back yard. WHO does that? This story will suck you in, so hold on, because the twist at the end will have you second guessing your own sanity.
I just got done reading BURIED by Justin Boote in one sitting, and oh my gods, does it pack a gory punch!! A woman is bent on revenge and she goes after it in the most violent way she can think of. And of course, there's always a twist! Excellent novella, perfect for those who are in the mood for revenge stories, especially women who wants revenge on their ex! Earned 5/5 from me!
I love a good revenge story, I feel like a lot of people do, but this was something else entirely and I can’t say I hated it. It was a bit of a mindf*** and pretty grotesque but enjoyable too and really different honestly. There are a few hints along the way but piecing it all together at the end was shocking to say the least. Great read!
This book was PHENOMENAL. J. Boote really delivered with this one. I binged it in one sitting. Fans of extreme horror… this is a MUST read. This book had a crazy plot, feminine rage, revenge, gore galore and a HUGE twist.
Buried follows Amy. She’s been buried alive by her POS boyfriend and his crew of scumbags. They thought she was dead but boy did they think wrong…
