Look how far she had fallen. Even her internal monologue was unrecognizable. Julie Jameson once thought the answer to her grief was leaving her hometown on the South Carolina coast, working toward a new career, and refusing her role in a blended family. But months later, she's only moved backwards, with no place to go except for the last place she wanted. Jobless, homeless, and still motherless, she shows up on her father's doorstep, desperate for a life and a love that can never be hers. Now she's not only lost and resentful but forced to be housemates with someone she can never think of as her stepmom. She can't run away again, but she does run... miles and miles on the streets of Surfside Beach, right into a new chance and new friends at the local running store. Meanwhile, Julie's dad Paul and his new wife Jessie navigate life as newlyweds, in their 60s, still grieving their own losses, and discovering what life looks like when you find love again . Come back to Surfside with a family that's growing... by numbers and in grace.
Special This Amazon edition includes "The Second Date," a look back at teenage Jessie and her first dinner out with Randall.

Her debut novel, The Tentative Knock, is an exploration of moving forward while carrying grief and is a book club favorite, along with a rising favorite on the Amazon charts. Kelly's inspiration collection of essays, Swerve: When Life Throws Curves, But God Said Live, is an Amazon #1 New Release.
This book. What can I say? This book was everything to me. After The Tentative Knock I wasn’t sure what I thought of Julie, but I can now say I fell in love with her. Everything about her reminded me of me. I saw so much of myself in Julie with how she handled things, decisions she made and the emotions she felt. It all made her story real to me and I wanted her to succeed, I wanted her to really live. The way Kelly writes, it pulls you in and you feel all the feels. She hits it all and you can’t help but fall for the Jameson-Oakey family and feel like you are part of their tribe.
This is a lovely read following the other book, “The Tentative Knock”. The characters in both books share life altering change, grief, family and finding love again in a complicated world. The books are a refreshing look at family and new love in a coastal setting at Myrtle Beach. The problems are real and this author weaves authenticity with southern charm and is refreshingly hopeful. I am inspired each time I read Ms. Burton’s books. I can’t wait to see what happens next with this blended family.
