I came across this book because I was looking for works from this prominent Dominican author. A profound spiritual treatise that requires more time to absorb than I gave it. The chapters are relatively short and even those have subsections, so to do this book well it is best to take one section at a time, make some takeaway notes, and move on when ready.

It comes fresh off of a Vatican II (1968) so the council certainly influences it, but it does stand the test of time.

Generally, I wish there were more practical examples in the book to help make connections with daily life. But again, take the proper amount of time and reflection and the serious reader will be able to make those connections personally.

This is the first of a trilogy (followed by "Dynamic Contemplation" and "Secular Holiness"). My reading of the first volume does not discourage me from plowing through the rest.
