Hi,

A little more about me, I live in Southern California, with my two kids, and a trio of fur babies.

I work full time in the aerospace industry with some amazing scientist that were fundamental when brain storming new technologies for my universe.

I also have a culinary degree that is worthless because my kids love hotdogs, chicken nuggets and mac & cheese. But at least they love my birthday cakes so, I'll take that as a win.

I have a management and leadership degree that is utilized most when negotiating with my children and organizing time between writing, cleaning and family movie-night.

I prefer Star Trek over Star Wars. And when I'm being lazy, I like to read WTF Facts on Pintrest.

I enjoyed this book and thought it delivered a very satisfying conclusion to this series. I thought the chemistry was great between these characters and plenty of sparks were flying with every single interaction they shared. The story was engaging and kept me entertained. Sad to see the end of this series but excited for what's next. This is my frank, freely posted review.

Nope.Nuhhuh.No.

The story starts with a clear understanding that Rann had wrongly imprisoned Nua and been extra mean to her, alienating her to the whole crew. She had been isolated, bullied and sneered at by everyone, including Rann. She is filled with hate and deeply feels injustice that was done to her.Knowing this is Ranns and Nuas love story, I was prepared to see how author will turn the situation and those feelings around.Except...she didn't. The was no transfer between hate to love, between enemies to lovers. Rann , the male supposedly with strong honour and deep feelings rambled off clean, empty apology and never(even after they became a couple), rectify his mistake. I don't care if author described his inner shame, it was worth nothing if he never did anything to put it to words. And Nua went from angry, hurt and hating to loving at a snap of fingers. There is not even one scene to make the transfer for these changes of hearts.I saw absolutely no reason for them to get together.Maybe it was in the initial book and was later edited out. Why? No idea.Or author never bothered to think up anything. It was just one page they are both against each other and next page totally in love.
I also hated them together.Rann couldn't care less about Nuas feelings and Nua was constantly leaving him feeling unwanted and unimportant. Very childish behaviour for both characters.

Now, these series have been following a chain of events or base plotline. While previous books all got their own villain and climax where he/she was brought down, this book just flippantly dismissed the target(Callum) killing him off outside the story. Then invented completely new antagonist with new agenda and at the light of speed killed him off too in one sentence uttered by Chollar. Where was the climax? The takedown?

And to top it off, writing is wobbly. Somehow it is worse than in previous books. Not as nice or easy to read.

So....these are my reasons for the low rating. It is rushed, not thought through and feels like author just wanted be done and over while still attempting to cash in one last time. This is not a good, polished work. This is a "whatever" conclusion to series when author has run out of juice or is too preoccupied with different new book ideas to actually apply herself to this story.Sloppy at best.

Rannn is hunting a mass murderer but is finding himself distracted by Nue.
Captain Rannn is trying to find a mass murderer who keeps alluding them but he also has Nue a female who had been accused of murder but has proved it was no her who committed the crime. He now finds himself distracted by her and thinking about when he should be doing his job. When he hear that a planet has become infertile and not had any births for a year he heads there. He and Nue seem to be coming to a point of agreement when they are both struck but darts the inject them then the crew start coming down with a mystery illness.

Wow, this book was a enemies to lovers book. So much going on action packed and a great end to this series. I have read 2 others in this series and you get to see a lot of the previous characters. Also there is another series of hers that I have read and there is mention of some of those characters and you even see two of them for a minute at the end. Great book but I suggest you read previous books to get the whole experience. Loved the HEA and Epilogue and can't wait for the new side series that this one is going to. Rannn has Nue imprisoned in his cabin. He doesn't trust her and keeps her close so that he can thwart any plans she makes. Nue hates him because he just assumes she is just like her sister and will kill indiscriminately. But when Chollar tells him what he has found, Rannn knows that Nue is innocent.

Before they can resolve their personal connection, though, there's an attack that affects both the ship and all Yunkins, and he knows their time will be short. It's sad to see this series wind up, and I hope its replacement will be equally exciting!

Such a strong story, page turning and exciting till the very end. Loved the characters with plenty of action, adventure, and love. Rannn doesn't trust Nue and has her imprisoned in his cabin. Nue hates him because he assumes she is like her sister and will kill with lack in judgement or care. But something happens that tells Rannn that he misjudged Nue and she is innocent. I love the conclusion but hate to see the series end. I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Great end to the series

Rannn is ruled by his duty as captain and Yunkin sense of honor. Both are tested by Nue. Nue's got plenty of secrets and as Rannn uncovers them, he vows to make her his mate. Of course they have to fight a plague on his species and betrayal from the top levels of the Federation. Rannn is nothing if not adaptable and formidable. Together they're unstoppable. We also get an epilogue catching us up on all the couples. Even better there's a spinoff series with Clall's as the first book.

He is her Unexpected Captain and she is his unexpected mate

Unexpected Captain is the sixth and final book in the Unexpected Series by Layla Stone. This is the story of Captain Rannn and Nue. They end up as unexpected roommates and then even more unexpected move from enemies to lovers and mates. This story also ends the entire series in a nice and satisfying way.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. My opinions are all my own.

Not my favorite story at all. Obviously since I read several other books in between. I could not get behind Nue, who I found to be self-centered and childish. I also felt like some of their backstory was missing. One book she’s coming on board and the next she’s locked up. Anyway, I liked the wrap-up of all the couples though I had hoped Ansel would get his own HEA. He deserves one. I’m sad the series is over.

I have enjoyed this series so much. It runs the gambit from laughing out loud to I'd cover my eyes if this was a movie.
Everything gets wrapped up beautifully with this book and HEA's all around, for those that deserve them.
I enjoyed the interaction between Rannn and Nue. Both so determined to avoid each other to hide their secrets.

I received this as an ARC
