As a general rule I love sexy sci-fi. I get ridiculously excited over the idea of people doing it in space. Or on other planets. Or with other species. I won't apologize for my sci-fi kink because it makes me way too happy when I find a book that fits my sexy sci-fi requirements. I'm going to say that I liked this book. I appreciated the naughtiness of it (chain-sex, anyone?) and I think the author did a good job at making what could be a potentially icky situation (Kidnapped and forced to submit sexually to her captor! - said in my best movie announcer voice) into something that worked.

Probably the only thing that drove me bonkers was that Tar kept sidestepping Nyssa's legitimate questions about the bonding ceremony and using sex as a distraction. It worked for him as a character based on the patriarchal society he lives in but as a reader I was practically screaming at the screen telling him to put on his big girl panties and GIVE THE POOR GIRL SOME ANSWERS! Okay, I might be exaggerating about the screaming part. But I was definitely mildly annoyed.

All in all, this was a solid entry in the sexy sci-fi genre. I approve of aliens who can shapeshift and who have the ability to give their partners mind-blowing orgasms by concentrating hard enough. Well played, alien species. Well played.

**Warning, ranting and spoilers can be found in this review**

Tar is ruler of Zylar, a planet where men dominate over their life-mate and the women have to submit to them. After much searching he has found his mate, his companion. Who just happens to be a human female from Earth. Nyssa, on awakening discovers she is no longer in her own bed, and not even on her own planet. Not only that there are gold chains connecting to parts of her body.

So we have bonding, links, and physic chain sex oh my!! Can't forget a planet of alpha males and the You must obey me!!! attitude. If you don't you shall be tortured with sex, taking you higher and higher until you can not handle anymore but because this punishment you shall not hit that spot unless you submit and obey me, for I am Mr. Alpha male. Do not question me!! Rawr!

Okay complaints:
There was some parts of the story that were alright, but the events involving that part of the story happened off screen. If the author had to actually go the route and have them present as the action was taking place it might have made this story a tad more interesting to me.

The relationship is so unbelievable, and I'm not talking about the whole bonded/linked connection. I'm talking about the whole "I love you" part. No you don't, you like the sex, it's pretty much all you guys have done. Also you know you have no choice in the matter. Due to the whole remove the links and feel extreme pain. That's even if it can be done as it has never been done before. Also the whole the death issue involved. So no you don't!!!!! Yeah yeah I know they are linked to be together, they are lifemates and in time they could fall in love, but I don't believe for a moment they do now. Nothing they have did together has given me the impression that feelings have developed.

*End Rant!! Rawr!*

The first 3/4 of the book I hated it. So this ends with a 1.5 star. Maybe if I read this when I was 18, it would have been fine. The heavy handed manner at which Tar came across was just unpalatable. There are times where men are very pushy and domineering yet I still like them. This one, I didn't. Tar rubbed me in all the wrong ways. I get that he's supposed to do this because that's the way he's design. Somehow, the way it's written it just didn't do it for me. I kept thinking of ways to kill him. That is never a good sign. Obviously, this is a personal preference as other of my friends seemed to like it.

Now, when it comes to Nyssa, she did nothing for me either. I didn't like her. Once again, it's a personal preference. I don't like women like this. They bother me. I avoid them because they are so self-righteous at times that it just isn't worth dealing with it. I think that's what really bugged me about these two characters. Their smugness in a juvenile manner. It comes across a bit too YA for me. If there is genre I avoid, it's YA. Crazed hormones, irrational behaviour and perceived slights which cause a forced conflict just doesn't do it for me.

The sex in this story was interesting. I liked the links and what they could do. That's about the only thing interesting about this book. Less talk and more sex would have helped.

I have to say I am completely blown away that some people say this book's premise is too out-there, too unrealistic. All I can guess is that these people have never or very rarely read science fiction or fantasy novels. And this is a sci-fi romance novel, not just a romance novel.

Here are some of its strengths. The main character is likeable enough; she is no pushover, no doormat, but neither is she some unbelievably tough, annoyingly strong woman. And one thing that I in particular liked was that she wasn't some amazing beauty; too often in romance books, the female character's flaws are presented as something she's insecure about, but that are actually all in her imagination. Nyssa's looks aren't actually a major part of the book or really touched on much after she is initially described.

I like the idea of the chains. I am surprised more people don't. And I wonder how they are "unbelievable" when I'm sure many humans would love something that would show them their soul mate, and let them share emotions and thoughts with them. As it is we can never really, truly know what goes through another person's head, or what they feel in their heart.

I find the world of Zylar to be an interesting one. I hope it is explored and developed more in the rest of the series. Because that is where some of the book's weakness's come in. The book is pretty fast-paced as far as plot-development goes, but it suits it well in the beginning. After that the book's plot seems to go a little too fast. If the author slowed down and lingered over the second half of the book a little more, developing scenes more, the book would have felt a lot more complete and rounded. It would have built up and maintained suspense longer as well.

The development of Nyssa's character is fairly complete and adequate; I wish Tar's had been developed a little more. Some more backstory/history of him and his planet, more details, would have helped.

As for the sex/erotic scenes, they are some of the better one's I have read (and I read a lot. 300 novels a year is my average). If you're so unimaginative that you can't get past the chains or the use of psychic powers, then you may be disappointed, but that is the only way I can see that you would. They are a bit lengthy, so if you don't like sex-scenes, fair warning, they do take up a fair amount of the book. But you could honestly skip past them and the story is still worth reading.

All in all it's a decent fast-paced book with many good characters in an interesting world that has a lot of potential. I am definitely going to read the second book (and then the third, if the second is as good as the first)

I got this book free and enjoyed reading it enough to get the next two books in the trilogy. I love the clueless, alien hunk who claims his life mate thinking that from then on everything will be smooth sailing. Because we all know how trainable and submissive Earth women are - right?

I liked Nyssa and I even enjoyed Tar, with his stubborn determination to keep things the way they've always been in his world. So yes, I enjoyed the story. The reason it only has three stars is the writing style was rather flat to me. I skimmed through the sex scenes (and those who know me know those are often my favorite part!)and just never felt all that drawn in to the relationship between Nyssa and Tar.

One very minor annoyance is the use of alien words for time measures like; year, week, day, hour etc. I have no problem with different word for things like animals, or plants, transportation etc. Their meaning is easily gotten through context. But when Tar refers to it being 3 bi-nons until a ceremony is to occur, I have no idea if that is 3 days, or 3 weeks etc. I have a bad memory for stuff like that, so as I said a minor annoyance.

I couldn't make it past chapter 2. I dislike giving 1 star reviews and I am the first to admit that I may be more picky that most, and I don't want to take away from the author's hard work by tearing her book apart, but I do feel I should explain why I stopped reading after chapter 2.

Through most of the first chapter it was hard to tell if the writer was writing in first person or third person. I love fantasy, paranormal, and science fiction...a lot! But, chains that pop out of your body to tell who your life mate is, well, seems beyond weird and a little gross. But the clencher was the sex scene in chapter 2. It was rape. She said no, period. I have a hard time with "erotica" that passes off rape as sensual and enjoyable.

So, there you have it. Maybe it gets better after chapter 2, I don't know.

Mercifully short and laugh-out-loud funny!

Sex-to-plot ratio starts off really high... perhaps 8:1 through the first third of the book. It rapidly diminishes, though, and there were several chapters---in a row!---with no sex at all.

I first read this about six years ago but back then I was under the mindset that it didn't really matter if I left a review or not. Now the reason I felt this way is because I don't pick books to read (or movies to watch for that matter) based on others reviews. I don't even look at others reviews until after I've finished and before writing my own, I know weird right? So it never really occurred to me that others might only pick based on reviews, that's weird to me so what can I say. So I've been rereading books in order to make sure they are fresh in my mind in order to leave a proper review. With that being said let's get to the review shall we.

When I got this book back in May of 2012 I had just gotten my first Kindle and was picking up all the free books I could find everyday wanting to broaden my normal reading from just historical romance (so this one wasn't that far off the path). I would like to note this book is no longer free as of this posting. 'Zylan Captive' is still in the romance genre with the adding of Sci-fi and eroticia. The first in what appears to only be a trilogy (I'm still hoping she might do a prequel that explains Zylan and its history a bit but who knows). There isn't any real cliffhanger just hints at what's to come in future books and you do get a HEA.

The planet of Zylan has two suns and three moons the later being the cause of their psychic abilities. The people are humanoid who also have the ability of shapeshifting. It is touched on briefly that many years ago there was civil unrest and fighting among the men due to the lack of woman. Because of this they created the "companion links," chains that come from within the body and that are linked to their heart and soul to aid them in finding their soulmate whom they were then linked to for life. This link is so strong that if a mate was to die without there being any children the other would die soon after because the loss would be to great on their soul. Even with children left behind the one left to raise them (typically the woman from what I understand) needs constant support, help and healing to help them cope. There doesn't seem to be any chance of finding "love" again. They also gained the ability to look outside of their planet to other worlds, galaxies and dimensions to find that soulmate. For times like this chains have to be made for that mate that once in their presence they will connect to them if they are truly that person's life mate. This is also when it became a male dominated society. The men want to love, protect and make their mate happy, doesn't sound all that bad until you hear how they maintain this. They "control" their mate with the "links" through what else sex, mind blowing sex, but sex. I mean how else would men think is best to control woman? The women of Zylan except this without question, it's been this way for centuries and it ended the fighting and war. Besides the men are the main controllers of the links, right?

Tar, the ruler of Zylan, has been searching for his life mate for three years and he has finally found her on Earth. After showing up in her room and placing the "companion links" (chains) on her body, his come out and hers are accepted by her body, he takes her back to Zylan. Yes he just kidnapped her right out of her room and while she was asleep. Now granted he did go to the trouble to make sure she wasn't going to be missed. Of course he's an alpha male and confident that "taming" her will be no problem. Even though the High Priest Mica, and one of his oldest friends, has warned him that Earth women are difficult to tame. So much so that Earth is the last planet they look at for lifemates. Tar is confident she will see things his way and if not he'll just use the links to tame her, ha.

VanNyssa, or just Nyssa (which in Zylan translates to 'little cat') has been working for the same company for thirteen years. She has neglected basically everything else in her life for this company and they have just fired her. Her parents passed a few years ago so she doesn't have any family. Now she has been left with nothing and has to start over and doesn't have a clue how she's going to do that. Little does she know all those worries are going to be a thing of the past because she's about to get a whole new problem in the form a big strong alien and whole new world where the water is purple and the grass is light blue, not to mention chains attached to private areas of her body and that's just the start.

Now part of me wanted to have problems with this book, he's kidnapped her to basically make her a sex slave. And even though it was all psychically done he does essentially rape her and I wondered why this didn't bother me more. So I thought about it and it all comes down to the way the author, Ravyn, wrote it. This is a different world with a different thought process and way of doing just about everything. Everything here has a psychic link, from windows and doors opening with a thought to running the water, summoning food, traveling and getting dressed (or undressed). Luckily for Nyssa all she has to do is spend time on the planet under the influence of the three moons for her own psychic abilities to manifest. Now if Tar had taken the time to search her mind (which we know he can do, he did it to understand why she wanted/craved her cigarettes and even realize the damage they did to her body). He would have also realized what he was doing wasn't going to work and that in her world it was wrong, but then were would the story be. Lucky for Nyssa, though unlucky for Tar, she begins to realize that she can sense what he is feeling and begins to wonder if she could use the links the same way he did, a little quid pro quo if you would. Now of course this is unheard of but that doesn't mean it can't work.

After she has been there for about a month there is a linking ceremony, basically their form of a wedding, a medieval wedding. This ceremony is one all life companions must due and it is done in front of the council and their mates. Vows are exchanged as well as the man showing his ability to use the links on his mate to pleasure her, again part of their culture. Nyssa isn't to keen on the idea of having, as she puts it "a screaming orgasim" in front of a bunch of strangers. After which thanks to Tar thinking he still knows best and saying one thing while planning something else entirely Nyssa, thanks to the help of Tar's sister Tala, goes on the run. This is where the story really picks up, though it's over far to quickly I agree with another review this could have had much more potential in the story. Tar and Nyssa end up in a fight for their lives and a chance at actually finding love and the bond between them.

There is a lot of sex in this story, I personally would have like to see a bit more balance of the story to the sex ratio. Don't get me wrong I love a great sex scene, I just like a balance to the story. The sex is hot and steamy and detailed, so if this is a problem for you, you might want to skip this book. Though as one review mentioned you could skim through those scenes, though I don't get the point of even reading the book at that point. I felt that the adding of the companion links was new and very interesting idea. Some reviewers complained about the use of different words for time and days ie. nons, bi-nons, nilts (week, day, hour). This wasn't really an issue once I knew what each one stood for. After watching 'Farscape' this just seems normal to the Sci-fi world I almost expected it, it adds to the world development.

Sci-fi hot sexy romance!
Tar, is the ruler of Zylar and has to find a mate. His society is patriarchal and the men domineering the female in every possible way. Nyssa a human female from Earth wakes up with gold chains connecting to body parts. The book is funny and naughty with kinky sex, so if you like the alien-human romance- sex you will like too.

A Hole does not equal Alpha

Tar and Nyssa
Spoilerish content to justify rating!

The description states this is a Captive alien romance at the very bottom. However, this is very misleading and lacking in true forthcoming information.

This book contains non consensual intimate scenes. As in, the male kidnaps her from Earth and these gold chains they call links become embedded and hanging from her nips, waist and on to her lady bits. They are not removable and cause her not to be comfortable even wearing a tee shirt. She did not ask or consent to these chains which cannot be removed. So she is stuck wearing see through clothing, like harem outfits. This is what females wear in public on this planet. The chain part of the story caused a lot of increased anxiety and trapped feelings.
For the majority of their scenes, except at the end of the book it is all non con. They use to links to manipulate the mind and Boyd into thinking and doing and big O’ing. Tar never asks her if she would like to do whatever. He just does it to her. She fights it at first but then the links take over.
I’d say at least 50 percent of this book is repeated intimate scenes.
THERE IS A PUBLIC LINKING CEREMONY WHERE THE MALES OF THIS PLANET MUST BRING THE FEMALE TO O IN FRONT OF EVERYONE USING THE LINKS, WHILE GHE MALES KEEP THEIR CLOTHES ON AND DO NOT PARTICIPATE. When Nyssa asked about the ceremony he kept refusing to explain and give details. She didn’t find out until his sister told her what would happen.
These natives of Zylar are not alien appearing. The only thing alien is that they live on another planet and have some mind capabilities.
They use the links to tie the females to them and believe all females should be submissive sex slaves to their mates.
Tar is NOT AN ALPHA. A true alpha cares about his females needs before his own. TAR ONLY CARES ABOUT HIMSELF. Repeatedly in this book his thoughts are consumed with his needs, breaking Nyssa and even lying to her. Yes, lying. She gains ability to use the links also, after she does HE PHYSICALLY HURTS HER with his mind almost shattering her mind. So instead of actually feeling bad and learning from never hearing her out and caring about her, he decides to will act like he cares and lie to her to get her submission.
She starts going along with this and then finds out he was lying. Que the tiny bit of bad guy outside action in the story.
The forced link bond makes them ill feeling, pushes them back together. And then all of a sudden now they love each other. Uh, what???
There was no getting to know one another, no dating, no fun, no LOVE. There just simply was not any growing of a relationship or connection between them.
The physical connection was forced due to the links. So that is the only reason they are together. It was a physical pull, nothing to do with actually liking one another. Tar asks near the end of the book why she loves him and she’s all you make me laugh blah blah. I was like WHERE DID THAT HAPPEN?
This book was basically nothing but a story of a male who is self centered, that does not truly learn a lesson, who lies to his h, public intimate ceremony, a backward society, non alien looking males, a scattering of some psychic like powers, at least 50 percent was intimate scenes, a heroine who appears to want to fight it and does at times, but ultimately she bends to his will.
I appreciate the A saying there could be triggers. And while I don’t have triggers, what I do have is the annoyance when A’s act like the H’s they right are okay and redeemable when they aren’t. He’s not an alpha, he’s just an AHole. And heroines who don’t truly represent any logical behavioral responses to these situations.
Oh and these wanna be aliens can shape shift. Yeah, they end up having intimate scenes in multiple animal forms. It could have been wrote hot as it is in several shifter romances, but this wasn’t.
I was severely disappointed in the presentation of a wanna be alpha when he was really just an AHole. I wish these books would be able to write the difference. They are not one in the same.

After 13 years, the Fortune 500 company she worked for let Nyssa go – they said they didn’t need her anymore! How could this happen to her? All the awards, the 60-hour weeks, all for nothing? Now she had to search for a new job and start her life over.

Tar had been looking a long time for his life companion with the help of the High Priest of Zylar, his friend Mica. At last his mate had been found! The only bad part was that she was from Earth, and they were a difficult species sometimes, difficult to tame. But Tar was not worried; he was sure she would do everything he said once they were linked.

Nyssa woke up and saw the fine chains that pierced her body in intimate places! She was horrified, and then a male voice spoke! She dove under the covers, not trusting that this was real. So Tar decided to show her what he could do. Standing at the other side of the room, he used the special capabilities of the chains to make her squirm. He thinks he can keep her under control, just as the females on his planet are docile and submissive. Whatever will he do when the Earth girl turns the tables on him?

I took this book as an attempt to be humorous in an alien battle of the sexes. The snarky banter between them can be very funny at times. I would have preferred more honesty from Tar, but he was an alien, not knowing the things humans value. My brain took an us-versus-them battle stance, and I had every confidence as to who would win this one. The alien words and dictionary to describe periods of time, etc should be omitted. They were more distracting than helpful and served no real purpose for the storyline. This book may not be for everyone, but it was interesting enough that I look forward to future adventures.

I was gifted a complimentary copy of the newest version of this book and it was a fab read! I cannot imagine waking in a strange room, on another planet, with fine gold chains permanently attached to zones I don't currently have pierced! Yikes! Add in a hot stranger with psychic gifts that seem like magic, telling me I'm his one true mate, well, I would have a hard time adjusting. Nyssa, though, ends up handling both the strange location and the stranger, Tar, quite well! Smoking hot sex was Tar's plan to keep Nyssa as a subservient mate but she soon shows him about smoking hot sex that leaves him gasping and passing out ;) I much prefer a story that has the gal turning the table on her man with exquisitely pleasured revenge! Tar's shock at Nyssa's developing psychic skills are hilarious and end up being world changing. As respect and love build, though, Nyssa learns not everything is as she thought and she makes an escape to prove a point. She gets caught in her own web of troubles, though, and they both end up risking death to try and come together again. If you like extreme steam, on an alien planet, between 2 people trying to mold each other into something else, this would be a great book for you! You'll find hot romance, frustration, suspense and some action in this steamy read.

NO SPOILERS!!!
And you thought women had it rough fighting for equal rights here on earth.
This is a fictional fast-paced, fun, and suspenseful alien romance that will have you laughing and "Oh No"'ing and occasionally shaking your head and saying "Oh No he didn't"
There were times I found myself battling with my inner gal over whether to snuggle up with Tar or bash some sense into him - the jury is still out but I am definitely leaning towards snuggling.

Absolutely LOVED the chemistry and the back and forth banter between Nyssa and Tar. Their characters and the supporting cast are wonderful and so easy to connect with.

The story goes from expected to no f'ing way in a few short pages! There is action and suspense and a whole "CHAIN" of WTH events, as well as the opening and plot for the next book - which I am very excited about

This is now available in Kindle Unlimited as a box set ... all the yummy together in one place

282p Book 1 in the Zylar's Moons seriesShe is an Earthling who has mysteriously been transported to another galaxy, to another planet. Zylar is nothing like she has ever imagined. And yet, here she is 14and apparently life-mated to Tar. If he knows what's good for him, he'll start doing some explaining: What are these gold chains that are attached to certain 26um 26delicate parts of her body and, just what in the hell is happening to her? She's starting to change 26He is Tar, ruler of Zylar. He has found his life-companion and he's not about to let her go. He is going to enjoy instructing her in her new duties 14duties she'll perform as a traditional Zylan woman. She isn't stupid so it shouldn't take long at all for her to learn to be submissive and to do whatever he says, when he says it. After all, Earth women aren't that hard to tame. Ah, life is good!

Let's start by clarifying the 4-star rating. This book deals with a race that has developed both a unique method of linking fated mates and what this means to the female members of the society that has evolved. If you do not like nearly forced submission of half of the members (females) this probably is not a good fit. On the other hand the introduction of a earth female to this equation has and will cause some major changes to the mix. Tar and Nyssa's story explores the dynamic above from both sides and is both hot and challenging to both proponents viewpoints. The story is an exciting read and hopefully will continue this journey in the following books.

I liked parts and hated parts. It had been on my to-read shelf for a long time.

I really don't like the "linking" thing. It's just weird and creepy. Chains between your hoo-hoo and your nipples and then all over your body -- for the rest of your life. ICK.

One the other hand, I really enjoyed the bottle of the sexes where the heroine gives Mr hero something to think about. I didn't much care for the hero.

In truth, the women were the most interesting parts of this book. I won't be continuing the series.

In their battle of wills, will human or alien win?

Put a strong (but stubborn and sexist) alien hero and a mentally strong and independent human heroine together and let the sparks fly. They constantly test each other and somehow always end up in lengthy bouts of sex. Add in some interesting secondary characters, a prank that backfires BIG TIME and a dastardly attempt to usurp the throne. Enjoyable read if you don't mind lots of explicit sex.

I received an ARC of this book at no cost from the author. This is my honest review.

I chose to read and review this book. I am a fan of this genre and this one was a great read. Everything is well written, the plot, the flow of event and the characters. I liked how the main characters meet and interact together. I liked how she is different and unique like him when they react to one another. She surprises him more than he does her. It is filled with love, passion steam, sex, hotness, action, suspense and much more that will keep you reading. I recommend this one

One bewildered heroine, one idiotic, but sweet alpha alien and a short adjustment period. Humorous, feel good read with some smexy bedplay and power struggles. Interested in Mica and Tala's story after the setup here.

Favorite quote:
Pausing, he moaned, “Want me with more than your body, Nyssa. Want me with your heart, as I want you.”(Kindle Location 2041).

Captivating this book is. Dealing with a male dominated alien society the heroine generated numerous difficulties for her future mate in a most intriguing way. I was cheering for Nyssa all through this steamy read. I thought the story was very good, characters were well defined, and the erotic elements complemented the plot line.
I am very eager to read the story of Tala and Mica.

spicy read. fantasy. New to me author.
He's the ruler of zylar and needs a mate. She's a earthing and when she woke she didn't know what or where she was or what happened to her.
Nothing in her life was what she experienced.
I liked Nyssa and Tar even his determination to keep things the way they were in his galaxy and her determination to do things her way.

This story definitely had an interesting concept going for it by taking the whole fated-mates trope in a new direction with actual physical links, but I absolutely could not get over Tar's pig-headedness. His forcefulness and aggressiveness didn't come off entirely the way I believe the author intended. I was much more interested in Tar's sister's story than his.

I really liked this book... I equally loved Tar and wanted to knock some sense into him at the same time, lol... I absolutely loved Nyssa !! A strong-willed heroine, with a sharp mind, quick wits and ability to make the best out of her situation : being kidnapped and taken to another planet, among other things...

Turning the Tables

Tar is the ruler of Zylar and his link mate is Nyssa, a human. He thinks he’ll tame her into a typical submissive female but she has other ideas. Being on his planet gives her psychic abilities and oh are the fun! She’s going to turn the tables on him and love every minute of it. And the sex isn’t bad either!

Sexy and fun

Human lady winds up on Zylar, taken there because the High Priest has determined that she is the mate to the planet's leader, Tar. Too bad for this hide bound, patriarchal planet that they picked up a feminist used to having rights and privileges to equal a man's!! Fun little series, Wilde's early work. Sexy and snarky.

To be honest, I only got 30% in...this book was just too much HAHA, A girl who gets kidnapped by an Alien that puts chains in her private parts and tells her to obey, and she is more mad about not having cigaretts and Diet Coke....I just could not go on!!!!!

This was a terrible book. Basically the main character is very flat. There is absolutely not depth to any of the characters. I feel like I lost brain cells reading this book. It was a fast read but definitely not worth my time. I should have stopped reading it.

Barf! What a stupid book... as a free book, I will just say it wasn't worth the value of the time I took to download it. If this is the springboard for a series, I can only recommend that the author get more beta readers that give her a more honest opinion of what drivel she is producing.

I rather enjoyed this story!! It has me in the seat of the couch waiting to see what would happen & how things would change! I loved how conflict was dealt with, changes made, attitudes adjusted and the wonderful ending!! Excellent book!!

cool interesting story with some very big differences unusual for alien romance stories. recommended read due to well rounded characters, interesting circumstances, realistic issues. looking forward to reading next in series.
