Georgina seeks answers from Dante, a dream interpreter with ties to the underworld, but his flirtatious charm only leaves her more confused--especially as the situation with Seth reaches a crisis point. Dear Seth,

I'm writing this letter because my feelings are so troubled right now. I'm torn between wanting to hug you and wanting to hit you in the face. The world needs more sweet guys like you. You are nice, caring, chivalrous, intelligent, funny, quirky and socially awkward. This automatically makes me want to have your babies. And that's saying a lot, coming from a girl who only likes kids because none of them are her own, and therefor said kids can be sent to their parents after getting bored/annoyed with them. You deserve to be happy. You deserve a girl who is as amazing as you are. But you broke my heart into a million little pieces.

You knew from the start what you were getting into with Georgina. Yes she sleeps with other men, but she literally can't survive if she doesn't. You, on the other hand, can. Sleeping with another woman, just because you got a free pass, is wrong. I'm not saying life with her is easy. Hell, I don't even know how you even held on for as long as you did and I have to admire you for it. But you should have broken up with your Thetis first, before you moved on. What you did was selfish, and not simply because you wanted to. It was to get back at her. You knew it would hurt her. You wanted to hurt her.

I can't be mad at you, I like and respect you too much. I sincerely hope you'll be happy with your new-found love. She's a very sweet girl, and probably exactly what you need. But I'm even more sincere when I tell you I hope you and Georgina will find a way to be together, eventually.

Love,

Kim

I must be getting old, 'cause I really have no patience with these immature characters this time around. It is very hard to care about a couple who treat each other in such a deplorable, disrespectful, vile way. Oh, the things they do to each other in the name of so called love!

And don't even get me started on Georgina! She definitely needs to stop her reluctant succubus act and embrace her slutty personality. I mean, she can repeat as much as she wants that she does not like being a succubus, sleeping with random men and sucking out their life energy. But the fact is, she totally does! She will sleep with just about anyone - a guy she doesn't like and a guy she likes, a guy who will give her energy and a guy who is so evil he has none left, a guy she doesn't know or a guy who knows both her and her boyfriend. She will sleep with men because she is in a bad mood and needs some juice to perk her up, because she just had a fight with the man she supposedly loves, because she needs a favor from some sleaze bag, because a guy nearby is hot. But it is not even physical, she is an emotional cheater too. Ag!

With all that, I am giving Succubus Dreams 4 stars. Melodrama! Angst! Hot sex! Fun dialog! Mythology! Even though the main characters are morally bankrupt, the story is still entertaining as hell.

I loooove this series.

This is one of my favorite UF series, ever. Admittedly, the first book is the weakest of them all, while book 4 is my favorite. The plot, characters and romance get better and better with each installment.
The love story has an incredible arc and it is absolutely beautiful. You'll need to go all the way to book 6 to find out how it ends, and it is utterly worth it.

Georgina Kincaid is a great strong female character with all her faults. Her insecurities and weaknesses make her a better character, she is not perfect, but she is good. She is flawed and that makes her more real.
Seth, although completely outside of the guys I would normally found attractive, is also great; sweet and kind, he is a character that grows in each book, he is loyal, authentic and loves with his all being. He is mundane and so real that he is the perfect juxtaposition to Georgina.

These books are full of adventure and fun characters, but to me, what really makes them so special is that the love story here is not just your typical romance. What we have here is a TRUE LOVE kind of EPIC love story to the likes of The Princess Bride.

This is the kind story that stays with you, no matter how many books you read or how many years have passed since you first read it , you don’t forget this one.

I completely recommend this series. READ IT!

P.S.: By now, I have lost count of how many times I have read/listen to the audiobooks of this series. The first time, I did actually read them, but soon I knew I would want to come to them again and I got the audiobooks. They are great.

Genre: contemporary fantasy, Paranormal, NA
Tropes: angels and demons, impossible love, succubus, multiple mythologies
Trigger Warnings: use of substances, death, abuse
Series: Georgina Kincaid #3
Cliffhanger: No
Spice: 2/5 🌶
Rating: 4.5 ⭐

“Wanting and needing are two different things. A long life means nothing if it’s empty and has no purpose. Better to live a short one filled with the things that are important to you.”

That ending? Wow. I feel angry and betrayed with how things turned out, but I know it can't be the last of it. Although, I'm not sure I'm ready to forgive *certain characters* after this.

》》Characters and Relationships《《

“Do you know why they say succubi visit men in their sleep?”
“Why?” My own voice was small.
“Because I dream about you every night.”

Like always, the main relationship is between Seth and Georgina, with them living a strange star-crossed love. It's sort of sweet, but also very frustrating and I am definitely underwhelmed by them. I just feel like Georgina needs someone else and, comparing to Roman, from the first book, Seth is not very spectacular. Again, following the pattern of the previous books, there's a second guy in the picture, Dante, a human psychic with some magical powers and a dark past, that helps Georgina interpret her strange dreams. I know we'll be seeing more of him in the next book and, even though I have no doubt that Georgina and Seth are endgame, I can't help but ship her more with men like Roman or Dante.

》》Conclusion《《

I think things are going to change from now on and I'm definitely hoping for something good in the next books, because this one has sucked the energy out of me, succubus style.

"And that was it. All the anger and sorrow vanished. There was nothing in me. Nothing at all. I was empty."

This, right here, was the moment I was soooo very betrayed I couldn't even process. If you've read The Vampire Academy series (also by Richelle Mead), you can get ready for the same level of heartbreak you've felt when Rose knew she had to go and hunt Dimitri down.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing what Georgina has in store for us in the next novel and I'm definitely hoping she gets better things sent her way.

“What hope is there?” I asked. “If even angels fall, what hope is there for the rest of us?”

Second time around I'm looking at everyone less kindly. Someone needs to be punched on the 'nads and someone needs to be punched on the face.

My heart refuses to stop breaking over this book. That moment when … knowing the bigger picture…

JUST FREAKING STAHP BREAKING ALREADY!!!

It's impossible not to read this fast because what does one do when you know the heartbreak is coming?

What else but hurtle towards the hurt just to get it over with.

HOW DO YOU REVIEW THIS WITHOUT ENDING UP A SPOILER TAG WHORE???

This is me trying desperately to write something coherent when all I really am thinking about is getting on the next book.
.
.
.
.
.

I can't.

I've fallen too fast and hard over Seth and Georgina's characters and coming into this book I was already emotionally invested. So much so that even if this book still suffered from the very things that bothered me in the earlier ones (ie. heavy handedness on the foreshadowing) I still couldn't set it aside. Just when I thought I couldn't love Georgina more… I do.

My feet are still cold reminiscing the things that happened in this book. I knew something was going to happen but it didn't keep me from feeling something when it did.

There's a reason why e-readers were invented. One of them is so that you can read a book called Sucubus Dreams in public without feeling you're getting judged. We've all been there. Technology is allowing us to read a beautiful story of an amazing anti-heroine's path to love, redemption and forgiveness without needing to hide behind the cheesy cover of a paperback.

Seize the day.

The last book finished with a 'Happy High', a 'Woop Woop' and smiles from ear to ear... This book finished with a 'Devastaed Downer' a 'F*ck No' and tears that wet my pillow!!!! W.T.F??????

Again, LOVED the storyline, all the various things going on and ALL of the questions being answered. I ADORE the characters, dislike the ones I'm supposed to and try to give the new guys a good hearing (doesn't always work though!)

I LOVE that I hate the way this book ended, the characters are at a point in their lives that is tearing me apart, truly and deeply!!!

This time around, I second guessed some of the plot (and to my utter amazement I was right), but I have to say it didn't matter, I could have second guessed the whole book or been told the punch line and I would have still been enthralled, utterly compelled to read on and, of course, devastated!!!

I was going to read another book inbetween this one and Georgina's next book, NOT ANYMORE!!!! I NEED to see what happens now...

Well recommended series!

If I loved this series before, this book proves that I am completely and utterly addicted. I wasted a good hour this morning finishing up this book. I say waste because, er... I should have been writing an essay for my film theory class. But frankly? This book is worth it.

Wow. I... just, wow. The novel's plot itself is engaging, the mystery is interesting (if a bit easy to solve, once a few pieces fall together), and Richelle Mead's writing is (as always) funny and engrossing.

But what really got me about Succubus Dreams is the emotion. Near the end of the novel, I felt like the book had magically grown arms and punched me right in the gut. For me, the sign of a really good book isn't necessarily a great plot or a shocker mystery. It's when I identify emotionally so much with the main character that when something bad happens to her, I feel it too. And BOY, did I feel with Georgina.

Beware HUGE spoilers in my full review. I can't help myself, I have to talk about it. It's like a book counseling session.

I think this third book in the series is my favourite so far and I have high hopes for number 4 (which I just started reading). This book changed my view of Georgina and Seth's relationship and, for the first time since the series started, I really wanted the two to make it work out. It's weird how I thought Seth was plain and boring as a love interest until their relationship was truly threatened (I guess it was because he stood up to her instead of being such a pushover - did you ever hear of a sexy doormat?).

Seth is the quiet, nerdy guy and not typically what I would want to find in a novel. I'm into the confident and often dangerous types (like Barrons :D ) and I also found his tendency to stand people up when writing his novels pretty annoying. He was never going to be my ideal man and I was never going to be able to fall in love with him, but I did at least fall in love with their relationship this time around. Plus, I read the goodreads description for the next book and I'm excited to find out what happens next: will they get back together? Will a more thrilling prospect come along? So far, Mead has my full attention... I just hope she doesn't go all wishy-washy on us readers at the end of this series. Apart from Storm Born, Richelle Mead's writings have all started so so well and I haven't been unfortunate enough yet to get into the disappointing territory that I've heard comes in her Vampire Academy series and may or may not come with book 5 of this one.

Please, please, don't fail me!

I don't know how I feel about this book. It definitely was another gripping tail of succubuses, demons, angels etc... But, I'm upset now.

I've also decided I no longer love Seth.

I've now decided I possibly am in love with Carter.

Also...Jerome sucks! Oh, and...my hot Georgina had better get some sweet lovin' in the next book or I may throw a fit. Okay, maybe I won't, but still.

This third book in the series was such a chaos of emotions and I don't know whether to throw the book or caress it. I mean, Georgina just wants to be loved and have hope, why can't she have it!?

It's like the rabbit on the Trix box...why are Trix just for kids. Why is love and happiness not for a succubus.

Succubus Dreams #3 is a significant improvement from #2 Succubus on Top. That book ended with a flurry of successes for Georgina, including a deepening romance with her favorite author Seth.
The love in his eyes was so powerful, I needed to look away. Seth had an amazing grasp of the English language, but there were days when that skill was nothing compared to what he told me in his looks.
But circumstances don't remain cheery as the Christmas season nears. Despite having lovely, impossible-to-believe dreams, Georgina wakes up very much drained of her freshly acquired life energy. Her friends attribute her dreams and energy loss to stress.

Georgina already has a demon as her boss, but hell would be incomplete without some backstabbing. Georgina is no longer the only demonic sex worker in Seattle. Even worse, she's assigned to mentor the freshly minted and inept succubus while Niphon, the much hated imp who had negotiated the sale of Georgina's soul, remains in Seattle. Georgina doesn't recognize Niphon's underhanded tactics for what they are until all else is crumbling around her.
Niphon, standing with a glass of wine, regarded me with curious amusement as I headed straight for him. Considering I usually avoided him if it all possible, my approach undoubtedly astonished him.

But not as much as when I punched him.

I didn’t even need to shape-shift much bulk into my fist. I’d caught him by surprise. The wineglass fell out of his hand, hitting the carpet and spilling its contents like blood. The imp flew backward, hitting Peter’s china cabinet with a crash. Niphon slumped to the floor, eyes wide with shock. I kept coming. Kneeling, I grabbed his designer shirt and jerked him toward me.

“Stay the fuck out of my life, or I will destroy you,” I hissed.
Georgina's support system of friends has grown in the past several months. The most notable and quite peculiar new friend is an angel, Carter, who has begun hanging out with her friends. Georgina meets several of his angelic cohorts and Vincent, a human who is assisting the angels. Vincent becomes her houseguest.
"What hope is there?” I asked. “If even angels fall, what hope is there for the rest of us?”

“There isn’t,” he said. “We’re on our own. And we have to make the choices we think are best for our own survival.
And Georgina gets tested in Succubus Dreams. By the end of it, I felt that I had been slapped in the face.

Okay, I'm in two minds about this book.

First of all, I enjoyed it, and that's what you're supposed to get out of a book. It was a good read. Heartbreaking in parts, funny and hilarious in others.

There's a problem with this series though that majorly bothers me. I always figure out the mystery LONG before it's revealed and this book was even worse than the others in this one regard. I had figured out every major reveal by halfway through the book. That isn't good writing.

The actual characters, settings and dialogue is fantastic. The pacing is great and the books never get boring. The mystery, however, is always a little disappointing in its simplicity and obviousness.

I have officially revoked my Team Seth card. Seth can die. There's many other choices to easily replace him so that's not a problem.

It is a problem with urban fantasy genre. Apparently fantasy genre doesn't like other women. Than can be a practical manharem in the story and that's find. But as for ANOTHER woman who could possibly measure up to or compete with the female protagonist? One who doesn't turn out to be evil? No. That can't happen.

Georgina Kincaid novels continue this disturbing trend where other women aren't allowed to steal your thunder. But that's okay because Georgina herself breaks enough stereotypes to get away with it.

Overall, a good read and I'm thoroughly enjoying the series.

Georgina Kinkaid is experiencing some very vivid dreams. Each dream is followed by a drain of her energy. Georgina must find out why this is happening.

This was a fun book to read. I enjoyed the combination of the immortal world – the angels, nephilim, assorted demons and imps, and deities combined with the mortal world.

There are so many things I liked about this book. The dialogue was very clever, full of great lines. Georgina’s friends and associates crack me up. They seem normal and do normal things, but they are immortals. I loved the ongoing joke about the Christmas tree that was set on fire the previous Christmas.

I found Seth’s nieces endearing. Family game night at his nieces’ home was Industrial Revolution Monopoly. How cool is that?

More of Georgina’s past is revealed. I liked how this past experience mirrored her present situation. I’m no longer a Seth fan.

I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

I borrow these on audio from Hoopla; strangely, it's the only place I can find them. What cracks me up is when I'm getting ready in the morning, and my husband pokes his head in the door and asks me if we're listening to one of the smutty books, because he likes those. lololol

Yes, this was smutty but also a sad one. Things hit a tipping point between Georgina and Seth, and the book ends on a bit of a cliffhanger with GK making a date with Dante Moriarty... In other news, bad luck also falls on the angel Yasmine, and in a moment of protective love for a human she smites a fellow angel in anger. I liked her so I'm hoping she's not damned for eternity.

Let's see what happens to Georgina and the crew in Succubus Heat.

Georgina, Succubus extraordinaire, juggles a new protégée, some new angels and a few more immortals all while working hard to maintain her ever complicated romantic life. Bits of her past come back to haunt her and just when everything seems to be perfect more complications arise.

Georgina is a complex character. What she is, a succubus, is often a direct contrast to what she wants and how she feels, making her a demon with a heart and a conscience. It creates some interesting problems and makes for very entertaining reading.

It has been about five hours since I finished this book and closed its pages and I find that the chapters, the characters, the events, are still very much on my mind. I loved the previous books, but I am simply in awe of this one. It’s a fantastic tale, yet not one thing that happens seems unrealistic. The presence of succubae, incubi, angels and various other immortals and demons all seem so real that I no longer feel like I am reading a fantasy, or reading a book for that matter. I get lost in the pages and I think that is a sign of an excellent read and a great author.

This is one of those books I will be thinking about on and off for quite some time. Emotionally this book really put me through the paces and as a result I feel drained. I feel like I have been through everything that Georgina has this go-round and even though some of it wasn’t pleasant, I was hanging on and loving every written word. It really resonated deeply within me. Ms. Mead has a real flair for mixing the real with the unreal and making everything seem tangible. Every time I finish one of her books, she leaves me dying to dive into the next and that’s where I find myself now…impatiently.

While I wasn't prepared for this heart fail, this book was still my favorite so far.
I liked the dreams in this book, it gives me hope right along with G's contract.
I can't even blame Seth for what he did, but it doesn't hurt any less.
Gawd I love these books!

7/1 - As I've been reading this, the third instalment in Richelle Mead's Georgina Kincaid series, I've been thinking about what I thought it meant to lose (or sell) your soul. I assumed that it would mean you would lose all your humanity, any sense of a conscience, anything that you would look for in a human friend. Georgina doesn't seem to have lost any of these human traits and hasn't gained any of the evil 'demon' traits that I would have expected of a soulless being (especially one who has been around for so long) - a love for chaos, an enjoyment in watching others suffer, and a penchant for plain nastiness. In fact, none of Georgina's clan are evil with a capital e, they're like what Pepsi Light is to Pepsi - 30% less of the bad stuff (sugar in Pepsi Light's case, evil in Georgina and Co.'s) than normal. I don't understand why all these soulless creatures of hell are so nice! I mean they even have mentoring for the newbies to help them fit in and get started (the operative and confusing word there being 'help').

I keep thinking back to Angel, brooding and tortured vampire with a soul, versus Angelus, psychotic serial killer vampire who enjoys maiming and killing for the fun of it as much as for dinner. Mead's demons from hell are about as scary as Angel was when he was feeling his most tortured, and therefore less likely to hurt a fly than anyone (except possibly Willow), let alone a human. If it was only Georgina who was so toothless I would imagine that it had something to do with her mortal personality or her reasons for selling her soul to begin with, but it's not just her it's all of them. Hugh, the imp, would have to be the closest to evil of all of them, but even he is more like any normal chauvinistic, one night stand kind of guy that you could easily go out and meet at a club tonight, than an agent of evil. Or are we supposed to believe that that behaviour is the 'essence' of evil? And if so, that must mean that about 75% of today's men are demons from hell out for women's souls because it seems to me that they all tend to behave like that. I wonder if the lack of evil that seems to surround Georgina is something that will be explained at some later point in the series. To be continued...

SPOILERS FROM NOW ON!!

Later - Hang on a minute here. Is Dante maybe... Erik's son? Could that be why Erik 'hates' Dante so much (although I don't think it's hate, more like dreadful disappointment)? Whatever their true relationship I think I'm about to find out. Seth and Georgina have just met Dante at Erik's house... To be continued...

Later - Another crazy idea... Could it be possible that Tawny is actually Nyx in 'human' form? But then wouldn't Jerome have noticed a different, much more powerful energy signature coming from her? And what about Niphon? Is he in the dark (ha! no pun intended) about who Tawny really is, or is he Erebus also hiding in 'human' form? Otherwise, I just don't understand what's going on with her claims of being the most inept succubus in the history of forever, while at the same time there are reports of others seeing her practically ready to hook up with a guy in public, only for him to just want to be friends only minutes later. Doesn't make any sense. To be continued...

8/1 - Oh God! Don't tell me the sacrifice with personal meaning to Dante was Erik?! That would be ridiculously upsetting, and possibly unnecessary. Does killing Erik move the plot along in any way that couldn't be done with him alive? I don't even know that's what happened yet, but I don't think so. *Tenses in anticipation of continuing with the next chapter* To be continued...

Later - 3.5 stars because that ending was depressing scene after depressing scene after depressing scene. First there was the death, and I thought "Oh, that's dreadful, horribly sad." but we'll move on and Seth and Georgina will make up and go to Terry's Christmas party. Second there was the betrayal, and I thought that was bad enough, and then that final line from Georgina, like she'd lost all hope. Then I read the first chapter of Succubus Heat which was included at the back of the book, and I realised all my contemplation of how un-evil Georgina was, had brought about a personality change. Now she's hurting and she's enjoying ripping the souls out of 'good' men, she's finally behaving like the truly evil being that I originally expected her to be. I imagine (and hope) that a change of scenery and a new badass personality will fill the next book with more ass kicking than we've previously seen from Georgina. Looking forward to it. :)

In Succubus Dreams, the third book in the Georgina Kincaid Series, Georgina Kincaid is dating Seth Mortensen. Jerome and Seattle get a new succubus that Georgina has to mentor. Niphon, the imp that bought Georgina's soul and someone she hates with a passion, must stay in town until the new succubus, Tawny, gets her first lay. Meanwhile, someone, who we later find out is Nyx, is preying on Georgina's dreams and draining her. She goes to Dante, a man who deals in black magic, for help. There's a troupe of angels in town trying to capture Nyx. Eventually the angels capture Nyx with the help of Georgina, Niphon leaves Seattle after Georgina and Jerome find out that he was screwing with her the whole time, and Seth cheats on Georgina with Doug's sister Maddie, leading to a break up.

I just want to say: I am so disappointed in Seth. I actually started tearing up when Georgina found out that he cheated on her and when he broke up with her. And, yes, I call it cheating because, even though Georgina always told him that he could sleep with someone to relieve himself, that wasn't what he was doing. He chose to sleep with Georgina's friend and then he didn't tell her. She had to hear it from Maddie. What happened to the honesty he always called for in their relationship? And couldn't he go find a hooker or something? I mean, for goodness' sake, what the hell possessed him to do it?! And, who the hell gives up Georgina to be with someone else? Despite her failings and shortcomings, Georgina is the best and he just shouldn't have done it. Anyway, I was very upset and I can't read about Seth and Maddie anymore without getting angry, sad, and a myriad of other emotions.

I love Carter. He is my favorite character. He is such a contradiction, good hanging out with evil, sarcastic and kind, and he really cares about Georgina, despite being sarcastic to her most of the time.

An estrogen fest. That's what I felt like about this chapter of Georgina Kincaid's story.

I could see a million miles in advance what would happen with Maddie. That was not a surprise to me, but it didn't stop my crying. I didn't use to cry when I was younger, but as my hormones approach middle-age I tend to get weepy at more in life. And, this story really got to me. I guess you have faith in love, and this was quite a sad turning point in the story.

I have faith that things will be uplifting again in future storylines in the series, but I appreciated that the author was willing to take a risk and make me feel lethargic.

I actually love a good cry. Not everything in life is happy.

If you haven't read book #3 or if you plan to read book #3, warning the below review contains minor spoilers.

Broke my heart -- that is what this book did. Mead captures perfectly how sad and gut wrenching a break up can be. Rarely does an audio book inspire me to cry, but that is what I was doing as I listened to this book and driving on the highway.

I don't hate Seth, not yet. I don't hate Georgina. I think the two of them were caught up in an impossible situation. I actually do not blame either of them or have hard feelings toward either of them.

I initially really liked Dante, but man his secret is a doozy. He has no sympathy from me now.

The battle between heaven and hell seems to be so arbitrary and good people are caught up in it. The judgment on each side is crazy.

Poor Jasmine. Poor Vincent. Poor Georgina. Poor Seth -- and poor Dante's sister. So I have already moved on to #4.

Okay, I'm so pissed at this book, and totally loved it. It ruins the typical HEA of most stories and I can't believe the ending! It's a good book and made me cry, which means I'm totally in the moment. But damn I so wanted it to end differently. I won't make any spoiler comments, because I didn't know what was going to happen. I am also forming my favorite characters and my lesser faves, which makes it a fun read.

Definitely DEFINITELY read this series from the beginning...it's the slow build of all the characters and their relationships that makes this one of my more favorite series! I already started the next one because I just can't wait to see what happens.

A new succubus is in town and Georgina is responsible to train her. Her relationship with Seth is not at its best... in general there is a lot of tension in her life... and her dreams... oh.... what are those dreams and what do they mean?

Andrew’s death tormented me for many years, the pain of guilt and missing him digging into my heart. It never entirely went away, but it did lessen—it just took a really, really long time. As Hugh had said, a long life simply means having more time to mourn.
This series struggles to marry its supernatural plot with the far more developed (and actually engaging) interpersonal drama. In Blues, it was a murderous nephilim, in Nights, it was an ambrosia-peddling demigod, and here its Nyx escaping from angel custody and feeding off an unwitting Georgina to avoid detection. It doesn’t help that Mead does little work to integrate them.

The supernatural intrigue always comes across perfunctory, even when it technically isn’t. It’s clear from a few anvil-sized hints, the introduction of Niphon and his machinations will be pivotal for wrapping up Georgina’s story. The book outright spells it out for the reader twice with reference to her contract. It just doesn’t feel all that important at the moment.

Just like before, its Georgina’s love life that takes centre stage and the tragic trajectory her and Seth’s relationship is going. What’s particularly distressing is how Mead throws about every obstacle she can think of, somewhat resolves it, and then ends the book with the inevitable implosion.

We get issues related to communication. Georgina rarely speaks about her mortal life or any immortal intrigue in her life and Seth allows his doubts and frustrations fester until their final fight. Then we have Seth's mortality rearing its head when he gets shot defending her. That particular obstacle is notable as its the only time anyone actively defends Georgina and advocates for her — something even Georgina doesn’t do.

Of course, Hugh’s advocacy is ultimately what plants the seeds for their final fight.

When Seth pushes the boundaries of their physical relationship, Georgina is finally honest about her own emotional state, which in turn sets Seth running as she proves Hugh right.

Then, Seth sleeps with the only female friend Georgina has. He breaks up with Georgina, and decides the best course of action is to start dating Maddie, coming to the astounding revelation that Maddie is “more human.” Reading Georgina beg him to stay with her is excruciating, and Seth does himself no favours as he affects a social workers professional concern while spouting nonsensical platitudes.

I have seen some character falls from grace, and Seth's is right up there. How he initiates this break up far exceeds my expectations for an implosion. Even knowing his motive was to have Georgina hate him, to prevent her future pain, he chose the death by a thousand cuts route. He could have fucked anyone else, he could have stopped coming to the bookstore to write, he could have broken up with her and ghosted her. Not only that, he roped Maddie into his “noble” act.

Neither one is blameless in how their relationship deteriorated, but fucking hell did Seth come out the bad guy. With how clear the twist is with Seth—I’m not clear on the specifics, although its obvious the connection between Seth and her previous artistic loves is more than thematic resonance—I’m curious how Mead will repair the damage here. And whether she’ll be successful.

More importantly, Seth's betrayal felt earned. Mead laid the groundwork very early on and its predictability only makes it that more infuriating. Having your boyfriend cheat on you and move on to someone else immediately, while they believe they're actually being noble and saving you is, well, infuriating. There is no other word for it. He didn't even have the grace to show a flicker of shame.

Thankfully, to buoy us in all this misery is Dante, a human magician that seems set up to be Georgina’s next love interest. What’s interesting is that his soul is so dark (from murdering his sister, of all things), the whole succubus feeding won’t be an issue. He’s just another extension of Georgina’s self-loathing, of course, but it's a welcome reprieve at this point. And, I hope Tawny shows up again. Georgina is in desperate need of women friends and Maddie is obviously a lost cause.

Succubus Dreams is exactly the emotional train wreck I expected.

♪♫♪♪♪ Feelings…whoa.. whoa…whoa feelings ♪♫♪♪♫ (It should probably be Sweet home Alabama but the lyrics just don’t convey the same, well, feelings)

I’m pretty sure I was even more emotionally invested this time around. Everything meant more to me and even though I knew everything that was going to happen I was still so affected by it all. This book in the series could totally push me to drinking or chocolate or both, wait maybe it is my favorite.

Carter, oh Carter how I love you and your Christmas Tree burning down self. But, I sure wish you’d interfere more.

”Why do you care so much?” I demanded. “Why do you care so much what happens to me and Seth?”
He looked down at me. “I like happy endings. I like helping make them happen.”

At least I got to spend some time at the Mortensen house with my favorite fictional girls and they busted out Industrial Revolution Monopoly. I’m totally going to find that game one day.

But overall I agree with Tandie, Seth you are in the dog house right now and I’m not happy about it at all. I keep thinking about the ending to this one so we need to start Succubus Heat sooner rather than later.

“The love in his eyes was so powerful, I needed to look away. Seth had an amazing grasp of the English language, but there were days when that skill was nothing compared to what he told me in his looks.”

This book put me through an emotional ringer. RM definitely pushed the emotional envelope with her characters in this installment and my heart did flip flops more than once. Georgina and Seth are desperately trying to figure out their relationship but it just seems they can’t catch a break. All of Georgina’s friends seem to be against her relationship, well except Carter, and she is starting to worry about Seth’s mortality plus not being able to have sex with the one person you desperately love seems to be adding to the dysfunction in their relationship.

But Georgina doesn’t have a ton of time to deal with that because something is zapping all her power out while she is sleeping. She is also having vivid dreams of herself and a little girl that consume her waking thoughts. Erik isn’t able to help but leads her to Dante a dream expert. There is also a group of Angels about in the city looking into something and using Georgina’s apartment as a type of headquarters. Also, the imp that brokered Georgina’s deal is in town and is trying to cause problems too along with Tawny the new succubus on the block. When it rains it pours.

Some of the plot devices in this were predictable, that said I didn’t care. I saw the ending coming and still it unraveled in a way that kept me completely engaged and emotionally on edge with a few surprises twisted in. The subplot for the entire series is still building and I have a lot of theories but none of them have been proven or dismissed yet. Even as much as I enjoy the supernatural mystery happening I’m engaged in the romance between Seth and Georgina.

“This is a, uh, friendship ring right?”
“Yeah, don’t worry. If I propose, you’ll know it. For one thing, I’ll be hyperventilating.” A sly smile—surprisingly sexy—turned up his lips. “And it’ll be a ruby.”
“Rubies? No diamonds? Too expensive for the old writer’s salary, huh?”
He made a disparaging grunt at that. “No, I just think diamonds are common, that’s all. If I get married, it’ll be because something uncommon is occurring. Besides, you wear a lot of red, right? I know how important it is for your accessories to match.”

This was the hardest book in the series for me to get through. Not because of the writing but because of the heartache I felt for characters. Still it this was the best book in the series so far and I will give RM some props for taking chances and possibly even going against the grain. If you have been a fan of this series so far I do not think you will be disappointed.

I hate Seth with every fiber of my being right now and yet, I know that i'll pick up the next book in the series just to find out what happens...

In this one, book 3 in the series, Georgina and Seth try to continue on with their forbidden relationship, admist an arrival of a group of angels in town and dreams that are leaving her drained of energy.

I love this series, there is just something about someone who is evil, yet, who makes for a compelling main character as she struggles with her life. The supporting cast of Seth, Jerome, Eric, Carter, Cody and Hugh continue with laughs all around, and adding to the mix is Dante, and Tawny. Have to admit that I'm not a fan of Maddie and yet at the same time, i can see why events that occurred did (as much as I hate to admit it)

Oh,Richelle you did not just go there! I can't believe this! But I did see it coming. You need a good twist to keep the readers on the edge of their seats. I liked Succubus Dreams, more than the first two. Well,I'm off to see what will happen next with Georgie and the gang.

P.S. I don't blame 'perfect' Seth for what he did. Finally he shows he has balls and he is not spineless. Hope they never get back together. Just kidding, they have to get back together.
