Rabette Run is Rippington’s fourth novel and a rip-roaring standalone psychological thriller that defies genre categorisation. At its heart, it's a brilliantly gripping thriller but there is so much more to this highly original yarn. Emerson Rabette has a phobia about travelling on underground trains, so when he is involved in a car accident his worst nightmare is about to come true. A middle-aged graphic designer and father of one, Emerson’s entire future depends on him reaching an important business meeting. Without an alternative method of transport, he has to confront his biggest fear. Things immediately go wrong when Emerson’s Obsessive Compulsive Disorder kicks in and his fellow passengers become angry at the way he is acting. Thankfully a young woman called Winter comes to his rescue and agrees to help him reach his destination. Once on the train, she thinks her job is done. But Emerson can't help feeling he is being watched by his fellow passengers, including a soldier, a woman in a hat covered with artificial fruit and a man with a purple goatee beard.

But is he paranoid or is he really being stalked, and if so, why? The story is so well depicted that it transports you to where the characters are at the time and you live every single second with them sharing their ups and downs, amusement and despair. There are the important twists and turns and it is well written and absorbing from the outset. This is the perfect escapist read for our times and is superbly surreal, fun and unique from start to finish. Ever since the shocking beginning you are drawn in and engrossed in its total unpredictability as it moves rapidly and manages to be compulsive and addictive with ease. Rabette is a fantastic and engaging character who is trying his best to work his way through the terrible adversity he is facing in his life. The peripheral cast was equally as mad and compelling. Often wholly unique books fail because they simply don't work but here it has worked like a gem. A well crafted, suspenseful and emotional read. Many thanks to BOTBS for an ARC.

I picked up this book because it's a psychological thriller about a man with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). How unhinged could it be? Extremely unhinged!

Emerson Rabette is down on his luck. He was in a severe car accident and has lost his job. Now, on his way to a job interview, he is destined to conquer his biggest fear, the dreaded public transit system, which interferes with his strict regimen and his OCD.  However, nothing seems to be going as planned and uneasiness kicks in. Are there people watching him? Perhaps he should pay attention to his mantra, "I’m not paranoid, everyone is out to get me”.

Nick Rippington takes the reader down the rabbit hole. It's a fantastic psychological puzzle told from Emerson's desperate and skewed perspective. The supporting characters are wonderfully written and unbelievably real.  An unpredictable and fast-paced read that would make a wonderful motion picture. If you enjoy a heart-pounding adventure with a surprising ending, give this thriller a try!

Thank you to Mr. Rippington for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.

I really enjoyed this story!!

The book starts off with quite a bang and I found myself thrown straight in to the story and it was pretty full on in terms of pace from them onwards which I thoroughly enjoyed!

The plot was really well developed and I loved how the suspense built up, the ending was perfect for the book too and this was definitely one that put me through the emotional ringer at times, but not necessarily in a bad way!

The characters were well developed and fitted the book perfectly too – it was all very well crafted and a great book to read! It certainly had me turning the pages at quite a speed!

It is 4 stars from me for this one, I thought that the story was well developed and I will definitely be looking out to read more books from this author in future too!! Highly recommended!!

Having not read any of this authors books before, I wasn’t quite sure what I was letting myself in for. Now that I have finished my first introduction into his work, well lets just say I will certainly be returning for more!

The story has a shocking start before we then get to know the main character better, as he goes on what should be an uneventful journey for an important meeting. Things start to take a dark and unexpected turn when Emerson enters the underground.

What follows felt like an action thriller as there was no guessing at what was going to happen next. Well you could guess but you will probably be wrong. It’s hard to go into to much detail as I fear I would spoil it for others. This is one that readers definitely need to go into blind.

The ending was quite a sombre read that got the emotions going. The author had everything come together really well which I always love. Everything explained and tied up nicely.

Rabette Run is a fun, unexpected page turner of a read, that reeled me in and didn’t let go. I could easily see this on the big screen as the story alone was a compulsive, edge of your seat read. I really enjoyed Emerson’s and Winter’s characters and they made it an even more enjoyable reading experience.

My thanks to the author for an advanced readers copy of this book. All opinions are my own and not biased in anyway.

Rabette Run! by Nick Rippington is a thriller with a difference! Even the title, in my opinion brings to mind a surrealism you don't usually find in thrillers. The blurb actually states "Alice in Wonderland meets James Bond". The main character Emerson Rabette has to interview for a position in his company as they are downsizing. He has to travel on the underground to get there, something he has a deep phobia about. He also struggles with his OCD, so has his rituals to complete before he does anything else. Once he actually gets on the undergound he sees a message "Run, Rabette, Run!" This sends him down his own rabbit hole.Cue the weird and crazy characters met along his way! Nick Rippington certainly makes the scenes real and they are so vivid they could be real!!
The sensitive and serious issues Emerson deals with daily are treated with sensitivity and a gentleness I totally understood and with that said the story is not with it's humour. One minute you can be laughing and the next the seriousness hits you!
This is my first book by Nick and I will certainly be looking out for his others. A big thank you to Sarah Hardy@ BOTBSPublicity for asking me to be a part of Nick's Blog Tour! I certainly enjoyed the ride!!

WOW.

That’s my review!

Just kidding, but seriously…Rabette Run is so worth five stars. I am absolutely obsessed with the plot of this novel. Described as “Alice in Wonderland meets James Bond” this is just a fantastic book. Gripping, fast-paced, and addicting, I couldn’t get enough.

Nick Rippington knows how to write suspense. This is a real thriller that doesn’t give you a lot of time to catch your breath. Twists and turns galore, keeping you on the edge of your seat.

The characters are fantastic. Realistic with dialogue that makes sense for the situations. I love the realistic aspect of the writing here.

I honestly loved this book so much. Highly recommended!!

5/5☆

Imagine your whole life just imploding in one job lot… losing your job, car crash, loss of confidence… what do you do?! And then the make or break meeting and you have to face your worse fear ever!

As the early chapters passed me by, I got to know Emerson more. He’s an unnerving man, not in a sinister way. No he’s unstable. How much does he tell me that’s real or not?

Suspect everyone, trust no one.

I really didn’t know what to make of Winter. Is she part of the conspiracy? Is she genuine? She just seemed to be in the right place at the right time – coincidence, or was she making sure Emerson was ok and got to his meeting ok?! And then the rest of the supporting cast! Oh my! Only on the London Underground would you encounter such an array of individuals!

You’re as mad as a box of frogs

This is Speed on speed, a borderline caper of a read. Emerson has it right whe he spouts This is insane. Butthequestion on my lips throughly was WHY?! Why was Emerson being put through all this? Was he really a threat to national security?!

This is one hell of a trippy read. If this were a film, it would totally addictive to follow but by the end I’d be calling it a #HeadF***. I really don’t know what to make of it. The blurb definitely has it right Alice goes down the rabbit hole and meets Mr Bond…It’s like nothing I’ve read before. I can see this staying with me for some time. Totally and utterly unique in my book.

Emerson Rabette is on his way to an interview. His company is downsizing and there are three of them for one job. He leaves home in plenty of time to allow for his “things”. Emerson is OCD. despite taking medication (which has to be cut into three exact pieces) has his rituals and without them the voices in his head threaten chaos despite him knowing that this is all a lot of nonsense however he has little control over it. Hence his world is focussed around the three's. Touching the third lamppost, going in and out of his door three times etc etc. On his journey he sees a message “Run Rabette Run” and this sets off a chain of events that changes his journey in more ways than one. Oh wow! I really enjoyed this and “got” Emerson and felt for his predicament. His adventures were amazing and with a wonderful touch of humour along the way. I went from smiling to tears- towards the end this is an emotional read and very well written. Wow! A sensitive subject handled impeccably. Very different from the Boxer Boys books by Nick and a brilliant highly entertaining read. Loved it.

Well what a hear-wrenching read this book was as I was taken into the lives of the female characters in this tale. This story is told across different time-lines and from a slower start it gradually builds up momentum.

I think the slower start to this story was ideal for gradually getting to know the characters in the story, by doing this, the author made me care and wan to know more about them. The main characters have a link that is not fully realised until a lot later in the book.

There are various conditions that are dealt with in this story and I do think the author has dealt with them well. These conditions are psychological ones and the author has used them to show how it is not only to be affected by them but also with them.

The story has mystery and intrigue wrapped throughout and it had me hooked as I was gradually shown how the various threads would be drawn together and the links were to be connected. Family secrets are unearthed as the full scale of past events finally see the light of day.

This is an emotional read as the author did a wonderful job of creating characters I cared about, there were heartbreaking revelations and secrets that added an air of suspense. A wonderfully written story that would be ideal for fans who like stories with different timelines and delve into families and their hidden secrets. Thoroughly enjoyable read and one that I would definitely recommend.

Well this was a bizarre, surreal, funny and also heartbreaking read. It was totally not what I was expecting. The first two thirds of the book came across as a comedy thriller a la Jasper Fforde but then it completely did a 180 degree turn and morphed into a heart felt and devastating book. I don’t want to say too much about the last section as it would utterly spoil the book for people and that would be a crime.

The main character in the book Emerson is a middle aged man, a bit deluded with life at present. He has a wife and daughter, a job he doesn’t really care about, but is then thrown on this amazing adventure! It takes him across London, into the countryside and then to Felixstowe. At times you are like why am I going along with this as it’s so unbelievably weird?! But you do get wrapped up in Ems story and wanting to know how it will all be resolved. But when you come to that resolution - wow it’s definitely not what you were expecting. I came to really care about Em by the end of it.

I would thoroughly recommend this book - go buy it. It is only 99p on kindle at the moment!

Not sure where to start, but one thing poor Emerson has paranoia coming out of his ears, OR is he REALLY being stalked? You will need to read for yourself but, I will say you won't be disappointed.

Rabette Run is a well written book by Nick Rippington, although I have heard about this author, I haven't read any of his books until now.

A roller-coaster ride with plenty of twists and turns until the end.

Definitely an author to keep an eye on.

I read all of Nick Rippington’s ‘Boxer Boys’ series last year, an engaging and enjoyable gangland type trilogy, so was intrigued by the blurb for this new and very different sounding book.

This story tells the tale of Emerson Rabette, a man with a phobia of the underground, who on the way to an interview to save his job, finds him on the very underground he fears so much.

As the blurb suggest, Alice in Wonderland meets James Bond, on entering the underground it’s almost like Emerson goes down his own rabbit hole.

Meeting a cast of weird and wonderful characters, Nick Rippington takes on a rip-roaring rollercoaster ride with Emerson firmly in the front seat. His imagination explodes on to the pages in some vividly entertaining scenes. Is any of it real? Is Emerson Rabette just losing the plot?

Dramatic, entertaining, action packed reading, though there are times you will feel deeply sad for Emerson Rabette. It’s one of those books you visualise as you read, a book that feels like it was written to be put on screen.

This is a cracking read. One I can’t pigeonhole Into a particular genre, but one I would recommend to all.

Thanks to the publisher for the free ebook copy in exchange for my honest review

This was my introduction to Nick Rippington and man, does he know how to start a book off with a bang. Being just over 300 pages, this moved surprisingly quick! There’s a pacing that flows like an action movie – you just don’t want to stop flipping or tapping through the pages. I was so mad that I had to put it down to continue working.

Emerson Rabette is on his way to a meeting. Seems like a boring and uneventful task, right? Not for Emerson. He has a phobia of the underground, and in order to get to where he needs to be, that’s where he will have to go. Well, things take one hell of a turn after he receives a note that simply says, “Run, Rabette, Run.” Now the action begins!

Rippington does a great job building the tension and the suspense as the book progresses. The characters are well-developed and it was so interesting getting to know Emerson and his OCD rituals he needs to do. I will definitely be looking into more from Nick Rippington and highly recommend this if you are in need of a binge read or want an action packed thriller!

This book is unlike anything I have read before, the description of Alice in Wonderland meets James Bond is very apt.

Emerson Rabett is scared of the underground, no more than that, he has a fear of it, so when his car breaks and is forced to use it, it triggers his OCD.

Once on the train he is trying to control, his anxiety when he finds am message on the inside, ‘Run. Rabette, Run.’ This sends his brain into over drive as he tries to find out what the message means.

He believes that one or more of the passengers are stalking him, and this is where some amazing characters come in.

A brilliant read and I highly recommend it.

This is a great story! It all begins with a car crash. Emerson Rabette is different after the crash. A graphics designer, he works in a firm with two other graphic designers and there is some downsizing going on so the company director wants to cut back to having just 1 graphic designer so there is a set of interviews set up to help Rufus choose which one he'll keep on staff. Then it gets strange. The story goes through many twists and turns as Emerson tries to get to his appointment. Rab is having difficulties on the underground train system. There is a young lady named Winter who goes with him on the train, and she becomes quite a good friend very quickly. There is the man in the electric blue suit who feel Rabette is getting in his way. Rab keeps leaving his briefcase behind and Winter keeps bringing it back to him. There is a woman who has a hat with fruits on it, she appears often. Rab sees a sign that he should keep going to Old Street on the train. The sign says Rabette Run. Rab and Winter keep going on the train with strange things happening, then suddenly they are off the train and they catch a bus carrying number 333. Rabette ends up driving the bus. Then the two of them get back on a train. The story keeps getting stranger and more weird as the trip goes on. Finally Rab ends up in hospital and gets some help. His ex-wife gets a phone call from the police and comes to the hospital and Rabette get some memories back and we find out a lot more about the strange things that happened to him. To me it seemed like Rabette had PTSD albeit was worse than mine was by far. I loved this story. It is fast paced and covers some pretty deep emotions. The suspense is so well written that it keeps the reader glued .
