2020 Read #10

I like how this manga establishes the back-and-forth emotions of teenagers. Just because you kiss someone doesn’t necessarily mean you love them, just as dating someone doesn’t mean the relationship is going to last forever. Shojo manga tend to have a very fixed focus on the notions of eternal love matches and high school romances becoming lifetime commitments. But no, real life isn’t like that. You can fall in love today and yet end up married to someone else ten years down the road. I like that this manga challenges shojo manga tropes and expectations while still being interesting and entertaining. I hope I enjoy the rest of the series.

Note: This review is for the entire series. I’ll only do individual reviews for a series when it has 5 volumes or less or I've recieved a copy in exchange for an honest review.

1.5 stars

because I didn't like it, but it had potential and there were a few cute moments.

This series could have been a really sweet story of first love, but it all goes so wrong halfway into volume one. Let me just break it down:

The characters - Nina was sweet, but such a cry baby. Oh man, she was literally crying in every other scene and I had no clue why. It was just unecessary. She was also a little too naive and obtuse. As for Kyousuke, man, what was he doing? I didn't understand him at all. Both characters were horribly developed (yeh, even for a manga). I didn't get their motivations at all.

The story - It was confusing, and not just the panels. The dialogue as well (even that was scarce in parts). This could have been a really nice story of a girls crush and how she has to rethink her feelings as she grows and their lives don't connect in every way for the first time. I could have even appreciated the ending if the writing were better. As is, the plot didn't flow well and that killed it for me.

The art - Getting straight to the point, I didn't care for it. I felt it was inconsistent and messy.

I think it might be too early for me to judge this but if I may, I can already feel how much I'll dislike the characters..... I'll probably try reading a few more chapters but I'm not gonna hold out much hope on this one unless something drastic happens.

!!! SPOILER ALERT !!!

I got a new entry for my "ff-fav" shelves!

I already like the story from the start, because the girl wasn't that clingy. I'm glad she decided to let go of the Male Lead.

And the second male lead. Oh God.....

 photo tumblr_nffw0h6qzU1rjtigto1_500.gif

PICK HIM ! I was rooting for the second male lead from THE.VERY.FIRST.START.

I mean he was not that half-hearted to the girl. But he Truly. Madly. Deeply. in love with her, unconditionally. Everything he did just to make her smile.

"Go to the place that make you smile."

This manga make my heart wrench, and make my eyes fluffy. Yes, it was sad. But, in the end, it's HEA afterall.

This is the second time I'm so happy the female end up with the second male lead after ひるなかの流星 1 Hirunaka no Ryuusei 1 !

This book is highly recommended !

A slow start up. Not sure why Kyousuke would like Nina? Up till now she has only shown her childish side, but both of them lack proper communication skills, so my faith in this relationship is about 10 percenr at this moment xD
Also setting the standard that kissing is something that is mandatory within a relationship (or actually even before) sets a dangerous precedent for teens. Physical contact is never mandatory and should only be done with consent of both parties. Faulting the other party for saying No is not okay. (Of cpurse choosing to not be in a relationship then is fine of course, cause everyone has the freedom to choose a partner that will meet their needs)

Today I have a manga, which I enjoyed a lot when I first read and well even after second reading I enjoyed it a lot too. Well, that might be due to me forgetting half of the things that happened, but while I was reading I was remembering too, and it didn’t really lose its moment of revelation. I seriously forgot whom the girl chose at the end. In the very beginning I thought that the story would take the similar twist as in “No Longer Heroine”. But well, it didn’t.

All the characters are very interesting and especially their interactions. Every character has a story to tell and at the end of the whole manga there’s even more to tell. It would have been really interesting to make a sequel about Nina and Shun; there were lot of moments of them, but still ¾ if the story Nina is madly n love with Kou. To say the truth, it was not the first time that the story ended in such a manner, but it was definitely the first time I agreed with the choice. What I mean here, is pretty simple, Kou was an absolute let down as a guy. It was quite simple to guess that he really did love Nina, but he waited and waited and even started going out with Yuiko… I mean, what the heck? You finally admit your feelings when she kinda moves on? Though I actually understand him. Both of them were too used to each other, their relationship was already developed, however, and I mean it, I wished until the 8th volume that Nina would end up with Kou. But at the moment Shun was acting as a lot better guy, so I switched. I loved Kou for the final chapter, when he pushes Nina to tell her real feelings.

A character, which I despised with my whole being was Yuiko. I was okay with her in the 1st chapter, but as soon as her “I-thought-I-liked-you” attitude came up in chapter 2, I was shaking. She was just using Kou to fulfill her need to be N1. If you ask me, if she didn’t kiss him, Nina and Kou might have had a full chance at giving their relationship a go. Thought she was also the one who pushed Nina to tell Kou her feelings. I guess it’s a complicated situation, but I still don’t like her. She had to work on their relationship and not whine al the time. Look at Shun, he made Nina fall in love with him and they’re keeping their relationship even thought they’re in different schools.

I believe this manga is best described with one word: Love. The author gives us lots of cases if love, and gives even more relationships. The author as if gives a nudge to all of those who are in an unrequited love to speak of their feelings. It’s better to be late then sorry, though it’s not so good to be late too. I believe this work will raise your spirits a lot; it did so for me. I lived every page of it and it was the same when I re-read it. There are many everyday situations with fun moments, but there are also some sad ones, though the happy ones always override them.

I hope you’ll find some time on your busy schedule to read this great story. Enjoy it to its fullest and don’t forget to share your thoughts below! Stay tuned for more reviews as well as promos! Don’t miss your next favourite book or manga. Happy reading!

XOXO

The only reason this story get a 5 is because the second male lead get the girl! This is the first of millions of books I read that the second male lead actually get to be with the main female lead!!!!! I feel that story just a bit too long (10 vol.!) the art is very cute and simple, since it's not published in the States there a few minor transaction error and confusing conversation between the characters and thoughts. Beside all of that, if you even have that feeling of pity and your heart breaks for all of the second male lead in Manga, Anime, and Asian drama, you should definitely give this book a chance!
