Reading has always been one of my favorite hobbies, even as a little girl. When I was a toddler, my parents would read stories to me over and over. I would hear them so often that I had the books memorized and could recite the story word by word.

My favorite genres are fantasy, paranormal, and contemporary romance. So of course that's what I'm inclined to write.

I have a husband, two young daughters, and a mini Australian Shepherd. I've lived in Tennessee the majority of my life and love the state.

I'm extremely addicted to caffeine and enjoy drinking coffee and lattes.

3.75 Stars.....almost a 4.

Storyline flows well. Thrilling twists to the story. Secondary characters still going strong.

The issue.....Alex is not as alpha/bad-ass as I would have liked. He is a bit of a push over and has issues seeing people for what they are. Also, Ronnie is a bit silly, for the lack of a better word, in book 2. Bit whiny and repetitive. Each fight she and Alex has the exact conversation.

Good but a smidge lacking for me.

Happy reading,
DD 🥂

This book picked right up with the drama where the last one left off. Alex and Veronica's story has so many twists and turns with danger lurking around every corner. Action, adventure, danger, angst and so awesome! Absolutely love the narration.

While I really enjoyed the story and characters I felt like the chemistry between Veronica and Alex wasn't as strong as in the first one. Some more pieces of the mystery come together to give us even more questions. Feels like the gang is against the elders again. Is it just normal younger thinking or is something more at play here? Allies and enemies are being blurred. Don't know who is on what side with any certainty. Story is steady paced.

good

Now that Veronica found her sister and sent her home she has a lot of other issues to worry about. She is the only human in the city and apparently her blood smells wonderful to vampires so she’s constantly being attacked by them. Alex‘s brother is being a jerk and trying to force her to become a vampire against her will. She ends up being kidnapped by people who really didn’t want to do it in the first place but we’re forced to do it. She tries to save herself and ends up hurting herself instead. She finally figures out a little bit about the shadow that has been following her around for her life. She’s still kind of whiny in this book, but it is a little bit better than the previous book. I hope the next book in the series will tell us what Veronica really is because I don’t think she’s just human.

Man the conflict heats up in this one.

I remember buying all the Shadow City books as they were released, and this one still manages to get me right in the heart.

Still not action packed, but the romance is swoony and the battle heats up even more. The pacing is off, but you still managed to be hooked.

The tension escalates as Ronnie and her friends try to discover who is after them and what exactly she is. And vampires come out of the dark and get their focus here!

Shadow Bitten is the second book in the Shadow City: Vampire Royals series and it was awesome, Jen did a fabulous job with this one.

So the first book ended on a wild cliffhanger and Shadow Bitten picks up right where it left off with a standoff between Ronnie, Alex, and the gang and the evil vampire Elim. Chaos ensues but the good guys won. Talk about a dramatic beginning, however, the gang jumps from the frying pan into the fire.

Ronnie is a human in a supernatural world and it has become very clear that she has a lot to learn from politics to culture and that maybe being a tough human isn't gonna cut it in Shadow City. However, Ronnie is determined to stay and adapting pretty quickly and is willing to still stand up for what's right and Alex is right there beside her as a faithful and supportive mate. Alex has changed a lot, he's no longer the self-centered jerk readers have seen before, he's grown and it's all due to Ronnie's influence.

This plot had a lot more politics in this one. I got more insight into how the Shadow City supernaturals work, especially the vampires. The Shadow City council is mostly corrupt and even Alex's own brother, Matthew, the vampire King seems to lost some of his humanity. It's all about powerplays and control. A lot of alliances were revealed in this one, nothing was too surprising because the trouble makers have made themselves well known.

Shadow Bitten was great, had all the drama from backstabbing politics, family upheaval, to violent attacks and kidnappings. Once again Jen has left us with a torturous cliffhanger. Alex, Ronnie, and the gang are in a tight spot with enemies closing in on all sides not to mention the mysterious shadow that has been around Ronnie her entire life. Ronnie's and Alex's main story should be wrapping up in the next book but things will be far from done in Shadow City.

I don't know anything about this author... Was she a teenager when this was written? Was there a publisher involved? The plot is okay. But it's execution? The narration? It has a very naive approach. Inexperienced almost. It comes across like nobody helped edit the story. Too structured... People don't talk like these characters. They don't respond or behave like these characters. Nobody yells a full sentence at someone before they "battle" with them. That's stupid. (Yes, her use of battle instead of fight drives me nuts). She tries too hard to make everything sound perfect. It's unrealistic & comes across as forced. The protagonist, as a character, has the worst inner monologues - I can't stand her. Zero connection at all. She whines, sounds dumb, and despite the obvious attempt in the story to show feminism, she is terribly codependent. So very fake & unrelatable. I'm listening to an audiobook version, and the narrator is terrible, so that doesn't help either (although, maybe I'm just more annoyed but what she says, not how she says it, so it's not totally her fault). Alot of eye rolling though. I do not recommend this and I'm only going to continue because it's 3 audiobooks in one... I'm on the road & I might as well figure out what the "deal" is with the protagonist. Otherwise, this series would have been a quick DNF.

Book: Shadow Bitten
Read By: Ebook and Audio
Author: Jen L. Grey
Narrator: Amy Landon
Genre: Fantasy, Paranormal Romance
Main Characters: Alex and Veronica
Recommend: Yes
Spice: 🌶️️ 🌶️️
Age recommendation: 16-30+ Years
My feelings:

Book 1 left me with a need to read book 2 to see what happened.

“I hated being the one who kept asking questions, but I wanted to be helpful. “So, a witch is working with them?” Figured. That Erin woman was a hot mess filled with so much hatred. She and Azbogah reminded me of Eilam.”

I thought the shadow that followed her was a an angel. But after this book im gonna assume its a demon.
I also don’t think its gong to hurt her at all. I think its a part of her.

“He pointed to a man who was around six feet tall with a shaved head and tribal tattoos snaking over his arms.”

Alex is so sweet, and I love how silly there fights are, and how reasonable Alex is when Veronica has one of her jealousy moments.

“Veronica, Alex connected to me. We’ve got a huge problem. My brother is on his way to you.”

Very much enjoyed

The plot advances
This is the second book of the Shadow City Royal Vampire series. Veronica and Alex are mated and have completed their bond. His brother, the King of the vampires, is definitely not happy about this turn of events. There’s still some political intrigue afoot and this whole group is trying to figure out who they can trust.

I do like the storyline, but sometimes the dialog and character motivations seem a bit juvenile. For example; Alex is a vampire prince. As such, he’s awfully tentative. At times he can’t seem to get a coherent thought across to Veronica. Personally, I would expect a vampire prince to be a bit more on the “alpha” side of things. Oh sure, we get a few glimpses here and there of that, but I just don’t feel it dripping off the page . . . Thus I’m not super enamored with him as a leading man.

This book ends on a cliffhanger and I do intend on reading the final book of the trilogy.

Super fun paranormal with great world building and strong found family vibes. Each sub-series has its own story arc, but there is bigger political drama unfolding throughout the series. Overall, you’ll like this series if you like good vs. evil plots, political drama, fated mates, alliance building.

The only negative is that I feel like each subseries should have been one book. I find that each individual book ends in an odd place, but each series has a good conclusion.

Although each sub-series can be read as a standalone, it’s much more enjoyable to binge in order:

Silver Wolf Series:
1. Broken Mate
2. Rising Darkness
3. Silver Moon

Royal Vampire series:
4. Cursed Mate
5. Shadow Bitten
6. Demon Blood

Demon Wolf Series:
7. Ruined Mate
8. Shattered Curse
9. Fated Souls

Dark Angel Series:
10. Fallen Mate
11. Demon Marked
12. Dark Prince
13. Fatal Secrets

Silver Mate Series:
14. Shattered Wolf
15. Fated Hearts
16. Ruthless Moon

book:Shadow Bitten|60072791] - Jen L. Grey 5-Dec - 4stars
Matthew arrives after the battle’s done full of bluster, entitlement and anger because Alex not only disobeyed him, he went a step further by mating Ronnie. Matthew orders the couple to the family home; they’re promptly summoned to a council hearing and Ronnie’s attacked. Meanwhile, Ronnie’s shadow frienemy returns.

At the meeting, Matthew campaigns for Alex to either turn Ronnie into vampire or wipe her memory and send her home. Sterlyn and Griffin thwart that volley by inviting the couple to stay with them. Matthew doubles down, insisting an attack on three council members is Ronnie’s fault and luring the others away while secretly having Ronnie arrested!

Veronica and Alex are are back and boy did this book take you on a emotional, intense, Action packed read. That will grab ahold of you won't let go. Alex and Veronica have a bunch of decisions to make after the meet with the council and from there the story takes for twist to the next. Will they be able to keep her safe? Will one decision they make make them choose something besides each other? Will there be all war because she is human? Each page I read pulled more into this story and the more I learned the more I wanted. With strong characters and the challenges they face it is becoming more and more intense and with an ending that will keep you coming back for more. I so can't wait to read the next.

The story so far has been good. However, one aspect that has become a bit overwhelming is the repeated focus on "sexism." While the idea of strong heroines and gender equality is important, the constant inner monologues and portrayal of all male characters as sexist can feel annoying.
Another thing that is disappointing is the sex scenes. They are mildly warm at their best. Zero foreplay and very fast. I just can’t feel the chemistry.
This issue is not new, as the previous series also had similar problems, with characters trying to dominate each other and a lack of depth in the intimate scenes.
Perhaps it would be best for the author to decide if they are comfortable writing explicit scenes or consider making the books "clean" to avoid repetitive and unexciting scenes.

I READ THIS SERIES BACK IN 2023

The second series in the Silver City Collection and just as good as the first 👌

How the author manages to link the stories and lives of her characters is absolutely sensational. These books are that good! I couldn't put them down and finished the 3 within 2 days.

5/5 ⭐️ is my rating. I absolutely loved these books.
Needless to say, if you like to escape to a supernatural world that has strong female leads and dominate, protective males, with battles, mysteries, and great friendships, then I can not recommend these books enough 📚 🙌🏻 ❤️

Shadow Bitten is the second book in the Shadow City: Royal Vampire series. It is vital to read this series in order as this book starts where Cursed Mate ended.

Ronnie and Alex are on the hunt to find out who is out to kill them as well as the why. How do they find out the truth when they are dealing with so many hidden secrets? Read to find out how Ronnie and Alex, with the help of their newly formed family of friends, uncover the truth of who is out to kill them all in order to keep the secrets hidden.

Expect suspense, chemistry (they are fated mates), action and continual interspecies drama. The cliffhanger will have you begging for the next book.

Intense

Wow a great second book in this trilogy things are certainly hotting up in Shadow City and change has to be getting closer. Matthew the Vampire King is plotting against Veronica and Alex and getting the council involved others are also plotting against the whole council there is so much corruption and various sections plotting the demise of the others. Veronica is arrested and taken to a secure facility the shadow that has been around her all her life appears as she attempts escape has it finally succeeded in killing her or has it done something else? We need the next book to unravel the mystery.

While I really enjoyed the story, I felt like the chemistry between Veronica and Alex wasn't as strong as one would expect in such a love story. I had even more questions once I reached the climax and that left me feeling a little upset and hungry for more. One thing was weird is that suddenly enemies are becoming friends and friends turn into enemies for some unknown reason. I don't mind a new character being added but it should make sense to me. I felt that was lacking. I don't know who is on which side by putting my finger on it.

But yet... I will come back again in a couple of years maybe... to read it again

I’m loving this series! I have to say this may be my favorite from Jen so far! Shadow City world is a fantastic one and I don’t know what it is about Alex and Veronica but they are becoming my favorite characters. So this story picks up immediately where the last one left off. We find out what happens to Veronica’s sister and while that part wraps up there is still so much left. Veronica staying with Alex becomes a problem his brother Matthew and many others on the council. Humans aren’t allowed in Shadow City and part of the supernatural world, but with Ronnie being Alex’s mate there has to be some sort of exception. For Matthew and some of the others on the council that means she either turns to a vampire or leaves with her memory gone. While her friends search for another way and Alex fights for Ronnie’s choice, there is more going on. Attacks from vampires and shifters are still occurring. Someone is causing problems. But who? Another killer cliffhanger!! Ah! Need the next one asap!

Shadow Bitten is book 2 in Alex and Veronica’s story. Things start to heat up and a roller coaster of emotions starts pouring in. Sterlyn and the group are still around and helping Alex and Veronica figure things out. Things are still difficult when people and other supernaturals are interfering. Get ready for one heck of a cliffhanger that will have you screaming at the end and have you wanting more.
I love how Jen L. Grey never fails to hook you from the start and keeps you entertained and invested in what comes next. Can’t wait to see how this series ends for this group.

So more of the mystery is coming to life! Keeps you wondering on how far this really goes! It seems like everyone, of those that are not within the group of friends is suspect to me. But I am a very untrusting person, anyone who acts like a behind is treated like one until proven otherwise. The second book of the new trilogy is in keeping with the awesome job Jen does in all her books. Can’t wait for the next one!

I havent found a single book by Jen that I dont like, but with each book her writing gets so much better! This story, this world, is by far my favorite. I love Veronica. Shes strong, kind, trusting, and determined to do what's right. Alex is stubborn and selfish in a lot of ways, but her perfect balance. The story progressed so flawlessly, and before I knew it I was at the end, with my jaw on the floor, trying to process that cliffhanger. I cannot wait for book 3!

I love how this book starts out with Ronnie and Annie in a not so great situation. And the whirlwind of emotions that came along with everything. Ronnie and Alex really have a lot thrown on their plate in this one and the friendship and love between them is awesome. And the friends they make along the way really help shape Ronnie learn to trust people. And the ending is not only intense but it will have you wanting the next one sooner rather than later.

What?

Here I am riding along the roller coaster that is the fabulous writing of Jen, trying to figure out the pieces of the puzzle before they are spelled out for me and then it just ends?! What in the ever-loving cliffhanger was that? There was not enough!! I need more! I don’t want to have to wait for the third book. What is the shadow? Ronnie has to be a sleeper supernatural. Gotta be. I hope so.

The second installment picked right up where book 1 ended and oh my goodness!! It was a nail biter!! Can I just say it was the same at the end of this book as well!! I literally wanted to throw my phone at the end!! The queen of cliffhangers struck again! The pacing of the book was good and it was fun to see Ronnie get out of dangerous situations. Lots of action, drama, and I’m starting to see a shift between the council. I can’t wait to see what happens next!

I'm done

It's just gotten worse every book. 5 stars had to be from fans or family cause this is just not worth it.
I've tried and tried and I regret even starting this series. She's honestly spreading this book way further than it ever needed to go. Nothing is really explained, nothing is done, there are no steamy scenes... Just nothing. One so called fight scene is all you're gonna get in this book. Ugh!!

I don’t know why I keep doing this to myself. I guess it’s because I want to know what’s next for everyone in Shadow City. I’m not going to lie, the author does know how to bring people into this world but all the recaps are just to much.

Some parts I feel like the author copied and pasted very long recaps throughout. It was hard to get pass that. Because of that, I did skim over a lot of the book. If all the recaps was taking out, all three books would have made one enjoyable read.

Another cliffhanger!

This is all way too convoluted. I know this is going to go through each group of paranormals before resolving, but I was hoping for a bit more progress from Sterlyn and Griffin being on the council. I guess Alex and Gwen focusing more on their humanity is a good sign, but it is really frustrating to feel like it's one step forward, two steps back. I'm feeling very invested in the story now.

Alex and Ronnie are great! There are so many twists and turns in this book I'm sitting here waiting for the third one so I can find out if my guesses are right.... I enjoyed the pacing of this book better than the first one for some reason so hopefully it stays for the rest of this series. Can't wait to find out.

Oh my goodness!

Wow! What a cliffhanger! Good thing Veronica and Alex can talk to each other! And what is up with that shadow?! Love the tension in this story, building up for the next one. And I sure hope Matthew gets what he deserves! Love this series, it moves fast and there’s a lot going on at every turn of the page.
