Το βιβλίο προσφέρει μια ουσιαστική και πολυεπίπεδη προσέγγιση της μαθησιακής διαδικασίας. Ο συγγραφέας δεν αντιμετωπίζει τη μάθηση ως μια απλή γνωστική λειτουργία, αλλά ως αποτέλεσμα αλληλεπίδρασης γνωστικών, συναισθηματικών και κοινωνικών παραγόντων, γεγονός που καθιστά το έργο ιδιαίτερα ενδιαφέρον.
Ένα από τα βασικά στοιχεία που ξεχωρίζουν είναι η σύνδεση της θεωρίας με διαφορετικά μαθησιακά περιβάλλοντα, τόσο στην τυπική όσο και στην άτυπη εκπαίδευση.
