An accident that should end in tragedy instead gives seventeen-year-old Jamie Baker a slew of uncontrollable superhuman abilities. To keep her secret safe Jamie socially exiles herself, earning the title of Rocklin High's resident ice queen. But during a supercharged encounter with star quarterback Ryan Miller she literally kisses anonymity goodbye. Now the annoyingly irresistible Ryan will stop at nothing to melt the heart of the ice queen and find out what makes her so special. Unfortunately, Ryan is not the only person on to her secret. Will Jamie learn to contain her unstable powers before being discovered by the media or turned into a government lab rat? More importantly, can she throw Ryan Miller off her trail before falling in love with him?
Kelly Oram wrote her first novel at age fifteen–a fan fiction about her favorite music group, The Backstreet Boys, for which family and friends still tease her. She's obsessed with reading, talks way too much, and loves to eat frosting by the spoonful. She lives outside of Phoenix, Arizona with her husband and four children.
There was one very, very disturbing thing about this book. The hero pouted. A LOT!
I actually feel bad giving this book 2.5 stars. The writing's pretty decent (not amazing, but decent) and it has short flashes of humor and sweetness that actually made me smile. I'm a little in love with the love interest too, despite his very many, many, MANY pouts. Unfortunately, this book suffered from a severe case of CoFA syndrome.
So here's the story of Jamie Baker. She gets turned into a superhero during a fatal car accident, when she gets dumped into a ton of hazardous waste while simultaneously being electrocuted by a downed electric pole. Jamie, whose life becomes intolerable after the accident, in which her boyfriend dies, moves across the country to Sacramento, where she acquires a reputation for being an Ice Queen.
When the story opens, one of the school's most popular jocks, Ryan Miller, is dared by the other popular jock (the asshole one) to kiss Jamie Baker, in order to be allowed to take the school's reigning beauty to homecoming. Ryan approaches Jamie, whose superhearing had already picked up on the bet, and surprises her by confessing the truth and asking her to kiss him. Following a momentary impulse, Jamie agrees, and her kiss ends up shocking the two of them.
Jamie hates her powers, thinks of herself as a freak and tries to distance herself from everybody in order to avoid hurting them inadvertently. So she's annoyed (but secretly flattered) when Ryan begins to follow her around. The rest of the story goes like this:
Jamie: Ryan, I hate you, leave me alone!
Ryan: Jamie, you know I'm hot and irresistible, so let's hang out!
[Jamie melts and hangs out with Ryan. Then she has second thoughts]
Jamie: NO! Ryan, I really hate you, leave me alone!
Ryan (looking hurt): Jamie, how can you resist my hotness? Let's make out!
[Jamie melts and makes out with Ryan. Then she has second thoughts]
Jamie: No Ryan, I might kill you. We must stay away from each other!
Ryan: Screw that Jamie, I'm hot and adorable. You know you can't resist me!
[Jamie melts and agrees to be Ryan's girlfriend. Then she has second thoughts]
Jamie: Oh Ryan, all your friends hate you now, and it's all because of meeeee. We can NEVA be together!
Ryan: Who cares about friends?! They're not worth giving up regular electrocution and relationship angst!
...and so on.
Over 60 percent of this book is unnecessary; although I never really hated Jamie, I never developed any marked fondness for her either. She spends most of the book whining about how she's a ffreak, crying about her crappy life and using her superpowers to slam doors and eavesdrop on Ryan's conversation.
Seriously, is it just me, or are fictional teenagers getting more boring by the day?! The girl's got superpowers for god's sake! She can run from coast-to-coast in ten minutes! And yet, not ONCE, is she ever depicted as having fun with her powers.
This is not natural. I refuse to believe that anyone could be so frickin' boring that they spend their entire life angsting about how horrible super powers are, without ever trying to use them to make mischief, or just to have some fun. Even when Jamie uses her powers to travel, she never does interesting things with it. She just ends up at the Grand Canyon, or on Tahoe Lake, moping about her miserable life. The girl is a whiner, crier and all-round downer from page 1.
Ryan , on the other hand, is kind of an asshole, but very cute. He has an overabundance of self-confidence, verging on arrogance. He's hot and he knows it, and he has no qualms using his assets to charm people. He's fun throughout the book, never getting too angsty or annoying. I like that he has flaws, and that they are portrayed realistically. In fact, if Oram hadn't mentioned every two pages how "cute" his 'pout' was, I'd probably have a teeny tiny crush on him. He was totally the best thing about this book.
The story hots up towards the end, and suddenly picks up its feet and literally runs towards the finish line. Once the endless we-can-never-be-together angst ends, and some sort of actual plot pops up, the author does a good job handling it. If only 80 percent of the book hadn't been devoted to non-stop tears and fears. Ugh.
All in all, it wasn't a rage-inducing waste of paper, but it isn't anything I'd recommend, either. If you're REALLY craving superhero fluff, I'd suggest renting Sky High or something, unless pages and endless pages of relationship angst floats your boat!
Yes, it all started with a KISS...not just any other kiss...an ELECTRIFYING KISS!
BUT FIRST, Let's get to know our lead characters Shall we?
Jamie Baker , who after a freak accident involving a tanker truck full of toxic waste, an electric tower and a convertible, developed comic book-like super powers. She became electrically charged and enhanced her natural senses. The same accident also involved her boyfriends death, which made her feel guilty. The normal Jamie became distant to everyone, she's practically a snob, an outcast, thus, being branded as the "Ice Queen."
Enter Ryan Miller: The gorgeous, dreamy, and OH SO HOT, Ryan Miller:
He is also the school's quarterback and most popular guy. He is confident, always has a positive outlook in life, in short: He's a breath of fresh air.
Okay, so going back to THE KISS:
It all started with a bet. When heartthrob Ryan and her best friend Mike discussed who is going to take Becky to the homecoming dance, they made a bet that if Ryan can make the Ice Queen kiss him, he'll have the privilege of going with Becky. And what do you know? Jamie actually overhears this because of her super hearing ability and was actually surprised of Ryan's honesty when he came up to her and told her about the bet they made. So, she kissed him...and it's not just your typical kiss. She straddled him and planted the hottest spine-tingling kiss, which Ryan can't forget. And after that, he's all like:
And that's how it all began. Jamie's struggle of not falling in love with Ryan and keeping him out of her life. (Which of course, is impossible). And from there, the story unfolds...
So, this is exactly what I felt while and after reading "Being Jamie Baker.":
I'm not even exaggerating. LOL.
The book is easy to read, fun, and refreshing. The characters are likeable eventhough Jamie is tad bit annoying at times. What I really love about this book is RYAN . I love his persistence and his overall attitude. I love how this is not the common superhero-type read, it also teaches us about trust, acceptance, and moving on.
This is the kind of book you want to read over and over again and never get tired. Highly recommended!
Also, kudos to whoever made the book trailer because it is the cutest thing ever!!! --> Being Jamie Baker
And after reading this, check out the story from Ryan's POV --> Kissing Jamie Baker
My casting for Ryan:
and none for Jamie because I kinda like picture myself as Jamie. Haha. I'm such a dork.
Okay, yes, I'm a guy and this book is very pink, so let me give you a quick frame of reference: I like romance/relationship stories, and I can get just as excited about a good chick flick as I can about the next James Bond film. I enjoy all forms of "Pride & Prejudice", Sandra Bullock rom/coms, and I really enjoyed reading "Twilight" until the end, when it tried to become an action flick (I didn't even read the last fifty pages). As for YA books, "The Hunger Games" is my favorite (I don't have a 'team', but I wish Peetah would get the girl in the end).
"Being Jamie Baker" is the kind of romance plot that I really enjoy. Plenty of blushes, flirty banter, stolen glances, and those "oh-my-gosh-he-just-showed-up-at-her-door-he-totally-LUVS-her-I-knew-it" moments. But what I love about this story is that this isn't the overly-done, now cliche match-up between a plain Jane (but with hidden beauty, of course, *eye-roll*) middle class wallflower girl who secretly crushes on the gorgeous popular boy and miraculously one day attracts his affection. No, in Jamie Baker both boy and girl are alpha dog types, the hottest and most popular. Granted, Jamie Baker is new in school and is purposefully making herself an outcast and loner, but at her previous school she was the top of the food chain cheerleader popular girl. So from the very first chapter these two are equals and the banter is always at full speed. These two definitely deserve each other and it's enjoyable to watch the fireworks each time they get together.
THE STORY (this discussion goes beyond the story summary, but in vague terms, so no real spoilers...)
There are two major plots here, and like "Twilight" the main plot is the emerging romance between Jamie and Ryan Miller, which quickly gets very complicated due to Jamie's huge secret (uh, she has superpowers, in case you didn't read the summary yet). But there is also the action plot involving the danger of Jamie being discovered by the media and/or the government (which one is worse, I don't know).
The intertwining of these two plots is where Jamie Baker really succeeds (and where "Twilight" faltered, in my opinion). In Jamie Baker, both of these plot lines feed each other. Jamie can never be with Ryan (or anybody) because her powers make her unstable and dangerous. So she constantly pushes him away, no matter how much she wishes she could do the opposite. Sucks to be her. But when the media comes snooping around, threatening to expose her to the world, Jamie has no choice but to learn to control her powers.
Sounds like a win/win, right? Learning to control her powers would allow her to avoid public display AND be with Ryan Miller, correct? Well, of course it's not that easy, especially since (and I'll be vague to avoid spoilers) Jamie faces a catch-22: she needs Ryan's help to control her powers, and yet the closer she gets with Ryan, the more potent and unstable her powers become, which in turn attracts more attention from bad dudes. Now add to all this the unfolding mystery behind the night Jamie actually got her superhuman abilities (which directly affects Jamie's outlook on love and relationships with guys like Ryan) and you've got a tightly-woven story with a romance plot that builds out of the action plot, rather than as an aside to it. I contrast this to "Twilight", in which you have an amazing romance story, and suddenly for the last third of the book it's like, "Oh yeah, and suddenly there are other bad vampires who want to eat you. Plus, they totally ruined our baseball game, so now there's going to be a lot of fighting and snarling." But Stephenie Meyer is still great, I love her.
I give "Being Jamie Baker" five stars for having everything I like in a story: great romance, great banter, strong female protagonist (but she still is very vulnerable and insecure at the same time, which is refreshing), a cool guy as the love interest, and great action scenes using superpowers and stuff blowing up.
Oh, and can I just say: FINALLY a superpowers story with no COSTUMES! START RANT: I hate comic book heroes with their stupid tight leather brightly colored outfits. Oh, you're so tough and cool, tell me, why are you dressed like a giant BAT? Why do you have red underwear OUTSIDE your pants? Oh sorry, they're TIGHTS. Oh wow, you're name is Daredevil, so your costume is red and has horns, how very CUTE. STOOPID. Jamie Baker has all your powers and none of your stupid costumes. Unless being extremely HOT is a costume, in which case I don't mind at all. END RANT.
Now, where do I begin? This book was recommended to me by a guy friend. Yes, a guy, straight guy, I can't really begin to fathom how he read this book and enjoyed it as much as I did. Why? It's not your normal Paranormal book (that's sounds confusing.lol), what I mean to say is that from the beginning of this book it oozes of Chick Lit. Of girly girl things. I don't really expect to love this book. I was kind of wanting to read other books before I finish The Golden Lily (yes, review will come for that) because as much as I don't want to admit, Golden Lily didn't keep my attention (I'll explain that when the review comes).
Anyway. On to the review. Have I said that I love this book, yet? I did? Well, let me tell you again, I super love it! You could see I gave it 5 stars that's how I love the book. If I could I'd give it an A+! This book had me from the first line.
The plot is something I haven't read for awhile. Definitely Chick Lit like but with a touch of supernatural powers. Jamie Baker character is a refreshing one, for me that is. I haven't read main female characters with superpowers, when I say superpowers, not like Vampires, Werewolves, Half-Demon, Angels, Nephilim, Witch or the likes. Jamie Baker is like Superman. The difference--besides the obvious she's a girl--was that she's really not like man of steel. I mean, she still could get hurt, achy body and all. And unlike Superman, she couldn't fly but she has this ability that made Ryan Miller go crazy about. Besides the fact that she's so hot. She's also an outcast, well, she chose to be one and she has a reputation of Ice Queen in their school.
Ryan Miller is funny, a quarterback, outgoing, hot, witty and conceited type of guy. Too much. BUT that's what I love about him. He reminds me of Adrian of Vampire Academy with his witty comebacks. I love everything about Ryan. He's not that pushy (not the pushy kind of jerk), he's really nice to other people, especially girls. Gentleman if you ask me.
"Denial is very unhealthy for a person, Jamie." "In my dreams you're usually dressed like Wonder Woman." “I kissed Ryan, and it charged him up like a freaking Duracell.”
It's nice to read stories where the parents are supportive to their child. Annoying but you just have to love them back. So I totally love this book. And there are some scenes I laughed with them, smirk along with Ryan Miller, grins, I also cried a bit too.
I must admit, I didn't expect the twist. I mean, I didn't think that he'll be obsess with Jamie. I thought he's a super nice guy but that just a front. If you wanna know who I'm talking about, go grab a copy! It's a definitely must read book! :) You'll never regret reading this. BTW, Imagine Megan Fox as Jamie Baker. ;) Never mind since almost all don't want Megan as Jamie. lol.
EDIT: I'm bumping it down, been meaning to when I saw Katy's review last 2 months ago? And well, since she really has some points there, and cause now that I think about it, Ryan is really a bit delusional and all. :D Plus Jamie is being annoying. BUT that doesn't mean I don't like them anymore.
Even though I want to bumped it down, I up it again cause Katy made me feel guilty. >_<
TO: Any Legitimate Superhero Organization in the world and other worlds in their respected universes FROM: A Concerned Citizen SUBJECT: Jamie Baker (alias Ice Queen, The Most Beautiful Girl in the School)
To Whom It May Concern:
It has come to my attention that there is this girl named Jamie Baker who thinks she is a superhero. She's not.
Despite the fact that she'll tell you she's a superhero forty thousand times and has super powers.
Yes, I know most of you have superpowers, but it's not a requirement to be a superhero, right? I mean, if you have enough money to build yourself a suit of armor or spend years in the Himalayas or wherever to become a super stealth martial artist who has a black belt in everything you can become a superhero too. And a lot of people who have powers aren't even superheroes, just ask Bella Swan whose too busy screwing her daughter's boyfriend to actually use her superpowers (Yeah, we al know that that's what's going to happen if another Twilight book is ever written. And yes, it would be the nastiest love triangle ever).
It's how you utilize your gifts. And what does Ms. Jamie Baker do all day....mope, mope, and well....mope.
Her parents really might've had a point about that job thing, but besides that I really think they were out of line. Maybe that's another reason I don't think she should be allowed to join your organization because her parents are raising her to be a horrible person. Not only do they tell her its bad to read. Yes, its bad to read. Reading is evil. Well...that really shouldn't be a surprise to me after all there was Bookworm that one Batman character...hey, does that make me a super villain?
Sorry for the digression.
But yes, reading is evil. That goes everything against what Reading Rainbow taught me as a child. Jamie's parents though, would probably block that program for their cable plan. They also want her to have a boyfriend with this guy who keeps harassing her. Though he doesn't seem to think its harassing he seems to think he's cracking through her ice queen exterior.
No respect for personal boundaries that Ryass (otherwise known as Ryan). I really suggest you send a representative or two to teach him respect for the word "no" (might I recommend Black Widow and Wonder Woman). Though Jamie's parents found his stalking cute and tried to pimp her out constantly and then when she reject her they got mad at her before yelling at her for liking books about aliens and superheroes. Note, run a check through on these parents. I am concerned that they might be a member of Hydra or the Injustice League. Perhaps, do a cross reference search?
You know, if they were supervillians that would actually be a better explanation for Jamie's origin that the one we got. Electricity mixing with fertilizer which apparently causes superpowers that would make Superman look like a wimp to develop, as well as green hair and yellow eyes (but she has no smile permanently inscribed on her face-darn that, I was about to have some interesting theories about her true paternity).
Wait, that sort of reminds me of Poison Ivy's origins in that shiteous Batman movie or that Nickelodeon show that I used to watch at my grandparents' house in the 90's where this girl got hit with chemicals from a truck and had superpowers....why can't I remember the name of that show?
The point is Jamie's whole origin story seems flimsy at best. Even the New 52 version of Catwoman's origin makes more sense and we all know how bad that origin story is (just hoping praying we get a reboot on it soon, then again Selina has gotten the raw end of the stick several times throughout comic history).
I'd actually sort of feel sorry for this Jamie girl if she wasn't a bitch. I'd hate it it if I was model gorgeous, all the boys wanted to kiss me, and everyone called me an ice queen because I don't want to party like it's 1999.
She's insufferable. I understand that teens are emotional being by the fact their brains are not totally developed, but can we be a little bit more self absorbed? Or for that matter can we be a little bit more rational in our feelings. I was enjoying the fact that Jamie wasn't receptive to Ryass's pressure filled I want you to wuv me because you're the hottest girl in school routine until suddenly out of the blue she realizes she does have feelings and throws a huge temper tantrum.
I kid you not. It still doesn't make sense to me.
I honestly gave up at a certain point trying to find out more intel about Jamie. I think it's because of this and parts of her story just don't add up. Like having the police questioning a minor without an adult present. Or threatening to arrest her when a) there's no probable cause, b) no warrant, c) and there's no reason for her to be arrested on grounds for a warrantless arrest. Hey, Oram, police aren't corrupt and stupid. They wouldn't even think about arresting her like this because of a little doctrine called fruit of the poisoness tree (watch Law and Order).
Her story arc also is pretty much a mess too. In 199 pages, there's only one quasi creepy guy around her and it's not like he's a supervilian. He just calls her by her full name-Jaimelynn- which makes me think of Britney Spears younger sister who got knocked up at sixteen and that's not creepy at all....
So yeah, despite her so called superpowers I really can't recommend this girl for your various superhero organization. She'll ruin you guys. She's more broody than Batman, more egotistical than Ironman, she makes Captain America's fighting skills san super solider serum look incredible, and she might just be related to the Joker (green hair).
I hope you take these thoughts into consideration,
This book annoyed the shit out of me. I just couldn't find myself liking any of the characters. I stuck it out and finished the book hoping that ending would at least make this an okay read. No, it didn't.
The whole rape thing in this book really pissed me off. There was no consequences for the rapist in here other than Jamie slightly roughing him up and telling don't do it again.
Jamie you are a fucking idiot if you think that will make him stop. Yeah, make a rapist feel powerless that is SUCH a good idea you stupid bitch. Oh, and you blowing up his truck in the end...GO YOU that will tell him!
So the moral of this story is if you get raped by the popular guy in school don't tell anyone, just act like nothing happened. Oh, and if you are popular stay friends with your rapist or at least hang out with him cause hey he still is really popular and popular make everything OKAY!
3.5 stars - Okay, this is going to be one of those books that I'm rating not for its quality but for how much fun I had reading it (sorry Mitch). The story is not great, but the dialogue can be pretty funny at times.
Honestly, I thought the concept of how Jamie got her supernatural powers was kind of silly. I was a bit frustrated that I was about halfway through before I even got an idea of what happened. And my reaction was to scoff incredulously about its absurdity. It wasn't until the true confession that I realized there was more, but even then, I didn't care for the concept. I think I would have liked the idea a lot more had Oram put more thought into developing the background story, especially since it had so much of an effect on Jamie's character.
But yes, this book was fun to read because Ryan totally made the book (yes JP, there were instances that he reminded me of you, especially with the quote in my comments, but no, you cannot be the Ryan image in my head). I really liked him (don't worry Lexie, you can keep him), but I wouldn't say he's an ultimately swoon-worthy character (MissKing, I'll have to think about the Ryan Miller fan club although I AM telling Melissa that Kellen is now a free man), but he had a good mix of fun cockiness and sweet care.
I didn't care for Jamie at first, although I understand why Oram wrote her that way (yes, the hot ice queen did remind me of Megan Fox). But she ended up growing on me. And your supporting characters - Becky, Mike, Paige, etc. - were those taken from your Handbook of Typical High School Roles, but they each played their parts well.
So overall, the book wasn't mindblowing, but it was a cute, fun read to start your morning in a good mood.
5 ELECTRIFYING, SUPER STARS! **Song on repeat: Perfect Kiss, by Marie Hines**
I really enjoyed, Serial Hottie so I knew I would be getting a bundle package of fun, excitement, and cuteness from this book. The premise seemed interesting, but when I delved into the story, I couldn’t peel my eyes away...
The story is quite simple: Jamie Baker, aka “Ice Queen” and loner, is not your average teen. After a tragic car accident that costs her bf Derek’s life, she’s also forever changed; she turns into a freak, or superhero chic, depending on how you look at it. I choose the latter (Yay, girl power!).
K anyway, so resident Hottie (capital H, people), and football jock – Ryan, bets his friend Mike that he could get Jamie to kiss him. At first, my eyes were-a rollin. But, I had my fingers crossed, and luckily for me, Ry did not disappoint!! Of course, the kiss happens, and then the rest is history. Oh, Ryan... You made me: Laugh Out Loud, and SA-WOON!
*Will Hottie Ry be able to melt the Ice Queen’s heart? Will Jamie be able to trust Ryan? How will her secret affect their relationship? Also, even if Ry accepts Jamie’s secret, what happens if other people find out? Will she be safe?
Verdict:The story doesn’t delve deep, and it’s not overly dramatic or heartbreaking. It is a bit fantastical, in the sense that it IS about superpowers; but, within the context of the story, the explanation for how Jamie got her powers, and everyone’s reaction to her, seemed reasonable. It’s a pet peeve of mine, when authors lazily, sloppily put together explanations that don’t make sense, or aren’t logical. However, I really enjoyed Jamie’s story – there were some shocking twists, and some predictable ones. But, Ms. Oram DID NOT disappoint!
In a Sentence:Being Jamie Baker is an impressively fun debut novel with a loveable heroine.
My Thoughts I was lucky enough to be given a copy of Being Jamie Baker for review, so a huge thanks goes out to the author, Kelly Oram, and to her publishing group at Bluefields!
Being Jamie Baker was the perfect summer read for me. It was light and fun, but it still had serious undertones. The first line was pretty catchy, so I had no trouble getting into the book, and the plot moved at just the right pace.
I loved that Kelly Oram decided to give her heroine comic book-like super powers instead of making her some sort of supernatural creature. Not that I don't love my paranormal romance/urban fantasy books (trust me, I DO!), but the way the author gave Jamie her powers made this book really stand out. Speaking of comic books, this book would make for a GREAT comic or graphic novel. Or even a movie adaptation...(Yes, that was me dropping not-so-subtle hints to the powers that be).
Jamie Baker was a great main character, and I fell in love with her almost immediately. She has such a snarky, I-don't-care-what-you-think attitude, but underneath, she's just as vulnerable as the rest of us. The love interest of the book, Ryan, helps her to realize this, and as a result, Jamie does a bit of growing up, which is part of what being a teenager is all about.
I was impressed to find out that Being Jamie Baker is Kelly Oram's debut novel. I think she did a pretty great job with it! I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for more titles by her in the future!
So, I'm a young working mother with NO time to get sucked-in to new books. I though I'd read the first page and then see what happens. Of course for the next 24 hours I was sitting under a lamp in a snuggie, giggling to myself, with my kid in the other room glued to FINDING NEMO and my husband practically starving to death. This book was a refreshing change of pace from most young adult books that can seem rather sensored and vanilla. It's wit and sass makes it exciting without the four letter words you usually get when an adult is 'trying to hard' to sound like a highschooler. This book is written for the reader, and is 100% fun and 0% boring-filler-writing that can lead to the "unfinished" pile of books stacked on our shelves. There is a unique plot & something is happening the ENTIRE time. You fall in love with the charachters and It keeps you hooked until that last page. Then you realize its over and the need for a "fix" sets in within minutes. So you read it again....Thanks Kelly!
Everything you've likely heard about BEING JAMIE BAKER is true, provided you've heard it's sweet, funny, and wildly entertaining.
It's a tremendously fresh experience. I mean, c'mon! It's practically a chick-lit. A chick-lit with superpowers, how cool is that?
This is Unholy Unicorn, and this is my review. Well, not really. More like an interview/I'm delusional/crap/don't mind me/I'm sorry please don't be scared with me/I just have nothing better to do/nonsense. Not really.
Uhhhmm... something weird masked as a book review? Maybe.
At least, she used to be. Thanks to a ton of toxic waste and oooh I don't know... 40,000 freaking volts of electricity, she now possesses anything and everything that you can add a prefix "super-" into. Like... superkiss.
Yup, you got that right. Her story starts with a kiss. Meeh! Too sweet. More like...
What? Don't look at me like that Jamie. I'm just telling them like it is.
Who the lucky guy is? Well, it's none other than Mr. Prefect himself, Ryan Miller. Seriously, he does everything so perfectly. Uhm Jamie, you want to say something?
Okkhaaaay...
*crickets*
Soooo Jamie, you're looking at Ryan like he's... Like you want to... uuuuuhhhmmm. Seems to me like you two have chemistry, don't ya think?
Well then...
I completely understand where you are coming from but please give me something for my review. Please Jamie. Just tell me why you keep turning Ryan Miller down when it's completely obvious that he has some sort of effect on you.
Fine.
But Ryan wants to get to know you. I do too.
So you'll let Ryan get to know the real you then?
Wait, don't leave. Jamie? Jamie?
And she left.
Hello there! Guess I'll have to do this review on my on, huh?
Let me just start by saying that I love this book. Just look at my lovely smile Okay, Emma Stone's lovely smile. At least I was half a quarter that charming after I finished this book. I think. I couldn't help it. The Jamie-Ryan moments are like chocolate. Too damn sweet chocolate!
Did I mention I love this book so much? If I haven't, well, I'm telling you right now that I love this book. Why? For one, it's the heroine who has some nasty secrets to hide.
She's... She has... She's been... Uhm Jamie, a little help here. Well my bad, it's not really THAT nasty. But it's kinda sad once you think about it.
Second, superpowers are cool and totally not geeky.
Third, Ryan Miller is a swoon worthy hero.
Fourth, I love Jamie!
Fifth, Jamie and Ryan has the sweetest relationship ever!
And my list can go on forever but I wouldn't because I don't want to waste your precious time. Not when you should be grabbing a copy of this book right now! So give this book a chance, will you?
Told you this is something weird masked as a book review.
P.S. Here's to this book's villain... Seriously! No one is allowed to do that to Ryan Miller. No. One. Hmp!
Oh hi there Jamie! I was just giving this douc... Wow! Guess Jamie can take care of everything. Good job protecting our your man there!
Wow! Just reading the 1st two paragraphs of this book will give you way to be hooked.and all the way it gives me a lot of smile, laugh,giggles..at first im really interested on how they will work things out, im always looking forward on how or what ryan will do to get Jamie as his girlfriend.. i do love the story/Jamie-ryan love story.hahaha:D
how I wish I have my own ryan miller..a young guy known for his wholesome good looks and a super positive person.
I desire to have superkissing powers as well..
anyway, I love Jamie too!because her relationship towards her parents are amazing. not all characters in any books was open to their parents/family as she was..it was a good example for teens:D well ryan as well, he’s a momma’s boy!
the ending was fulfilling:D
Spoilers: * you’ll love Ryan Miller by reading this book and I got your back(read this as well: Kissing Jamie Baker) *she accidentally killed her former boyfriend(Derek), he was electrocuted by hugging Jamie *her favorite teacher Mr. E was a stalker(obsessed of Jamie ever since she got her powers) *carter was a good fellow :D *mike raped becky , I don’t know how to simplify it, but Jamie had the same experience. Derek planned it, it just didn’t happen ‘cause she escaped.
The book trailer worked for this one! Sold me hook line and sinker, which is total first. I hadn’t read a review, I hadn’t seen a promo - I just saw that trailer. So good job Being Jaime Baker designers, film minions and creative personnel! After reading the book, though, how could they not have made a trailer that rocked it? The book was a great mix of candy coated emotions, touching, funny, a bit edgy, and all together entertaining. I really expected a future ABC Family made for TV movie and what I got was just pure joy to read. Kelly Oram is now on my radar and I can’t wait to read what she has in store for us next! Read More
I LOVE RYAN! xD He has that perfect balance of, playfulness, being cocky, funny, serious, but sweet. *SIGH*
Ok, on to the book. I had a bit of a problem with Jamie at first. The whole pity party and self punishment/exclusion and how she wasn't good enough for Ryan, was getting a bit on my nerves, but she totally made up for it when she started kicking ass with her powers at the end.
The plot wasn't anything mind-blowing, it was all pretty straight forward, but what made the book what it was, was the characters, the evolution of Jamie because of her love for Ryan. That's what it's really all about.
This book had me laughing out loud and sometimes and mostly smiling and smacking my forehead the rest of the time. Re-read worthy book. Loved it!
It took me long enough to post this, but here it is. Full review.
Being Jamie Baker... There really isn't much else I can say. I met Kelly Oram through National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). A group of us in the same area decided to get together and do a write-in at a local cafe. Kelly joined us, and while we didn't get much writing done, we did do a lot of talking. And in the process, Kelly was telling us how she was publishing her first ever novel.
Now, as we were doing National NOVEL Writing Month, the rest of us thought that was pretty awesome. I kept in touch with Kelly after NaNoWriMo ended, and every once in a while I would ask when the novel was coming out.
August of 2010 was the answer. I ordered this book on Amazon as soon as I could, and I couldn't wait to read it. Could not wait. I mean it. The package came to my door at 5pm one Tuesday night, and while I held off to finish my homework, I read until my eyes would no longer stay open. And at that point I was really sad, because I had to put the book down.
The following day at school, the book was with me the entire day. And it was tempting me, practically begging me to read it. So when I got home, I sat down, and I finished the book.
Being Jamie Baker is the story of a seventeen-year-old girl who, after a tragic accident, is left with incredible superpowers. Now, not only does she have to deal with normal high school girl stuff (popular girls, cute boys, and sometimes embarrassing parents), she has to find some way to keep her powers hidden. Unfortunately, she is faced with challenges that make hiding her powers harder than ever while she tries to keep the lovable Ryan Miller at bay.
I adored, adored, adored this book. There is no better description of how I felt. I simply adored it. It was wonderfully paced. There was a good, original plot. No yucky love triangles like many Young Adult novels these days. Brilliantly written. Spectacular character development. And to top it all off, good climax and lovely happy ending.
I have two words for you, girls: Ryan. Miller. All of the girls I know who have read this book want their own Ryan Miller. I want my own Ryan Miller. Read the book, and you'll understand why.
I think this is my first attempt in actually reading in a book the "superhero" concept that I am a big fan of. I focus mostly on visual entertainment for that matter, since there's at least one movie or show each year containing that ordinary man that gains supernatural strength, speed and so on and so forth.
SO for a first attempt, I think that I did good. Being Jaime Baker is a fun and entertaining read that felt like those first movies about heroes where we focus on their ascend to glory and the first real test they have to overcome in order to acclimate with their newfound abilities and later use them for the greater good. You know, the first Spiderman movie, the original Spiderman, was kind of like this.
We might not get the heroics that make you hold the breath that you didn't realise you've been holding (hehe), but we did get little flashes of awesomeness. And green hair and yellow eyes are pretty cool. That appearance reminded me a little of Polaris, Magneto's daughter, so I was happy. And since I am floating in a Marvel cloud these days, with Age of Ultron, I feel excitement with everything superpowers-related.
There was also a lot of teen angst and drama in this one, but I endured it. The set is in high school, so I was expecting it. Besides, remember Spiderman, which I mentioned before? Yeah.
The love interest was adorable and I liked him as a couple with our MC, but he did have a bit of a problem with pouting. He pouted a lot. And not just him if I remember correctly, everyone was pouting. And I couldn't understand why because after a certain age pouting isn't considered all that adorable. But Ryan was. When he wasn't pouting. Stop pouting, Ryan.
All in all, it was a fun experience rading this book, even if it wasn't amazing and I feel okay with picking it up.
I don't know what I expect from the second book, but I am hoping that it doesn't suffer from second book syndrome, because I want to see something more awesome. Hopefully.
I still couldn't kiss him. After all, I couldn't turn my only friend into a pile of ashes.
This book is fun! I really liked it.
When Ryan, king of the school, kisses Jamie as part of a bet, everything changes. Ryan decides he wants to know Jamie. Jamie doggedly avoids any advances (she's quite hostile!), but Ryan is pretty damn charming when he wants to be. He helps her control her powers. It took me half the book to get used to Ryan's exuberance and chattiness. He is so not dark and brooding. He is a very determined kid, but he's loyal to Jamie and I liked that about him. He had a few things to learn as well. Jamie totally won me over from the start. She's awesome. She recognises when she wants to be rebellious and she's pretty mature. She's sarcastic, honest, and not one for drama. She calls bullshit when she sees it. Her main reason for avoiding Ryan is that physical contact could see him fried literally. Her powers are pretty crazy. When she gets mad, the lights flicker, she can stroll across the country in a few minutes, she can hear conversations half a city away, and the fish get pulled across the tank when she walks past. Weird. It's pretty crazy, cause when she touches Ryan, it's like ecstasy and he starts bouncing off the walls. There are little crazy things that made me laugh because her parents are so adjusted to their super-powered daughter. When she comes home from school angry, they immediately turn off the power to their house so she doesn't blow anything. When they feel a faint breeze rushing past, they know she's running for the door. Jamie's really close with her parents because they're the only ones that know her secret. She's a loner because of her powers. Her parents accept that she is what she is, but they want Jamie to accept it too and get on with her life instead of shying away from the world as she does. I really enjoyed her parents. They're so much fun! They're the best parents EVER.
5 Star Rating Be aware: This book contains a huge pack of surprises! Geez... That Jamie Baker's life is packed with full of dreadful secrets. Story was really enjoyable & exciting with its captivating turning points. It was completely riveting tale of true love [ Sort of ], passion, dismay, sorrow, deceptive & danger. Every Time when Jamie exposed one of her hidden secrets I started to believe it.... I continued my reading.... & suddenly, that revealed secret was turning to complete disorder; Upside down..... Lots of turning points... & it able to kept the story as a interesting one. A page-Turner! Unpredictable. Difficult to put it down. After I finished the reading, I want some more... Absolutely a stunning novella with perfect story plot and amazing characters!!!!
I started reading this book in summer of 2014..as you can see...that was a long time ago...it started fun...and then just went downhill..if you read my reviews..you'll notice that I'm pretty nice with ratings..but this book screamed 2 for me.
REVIEW:Warning, there will be spoilers!!!!!!---and lots of cussing
Ok, I'm going to start with the good, quickly, so I can get to the bad parts!lol. >Good: she has powers! >She is cold and distant-at first..not the annoying kind...the cool kind. >Cool parents--at first! >thats about it.
>I'm going to start with her parents. They were..stupid, to say the least. I'm talking, not even the most common of common senses stupid. First off, they keep btching about her not being more outgoing and dissing her book-reading, and when she does get a friend or two, they start tripping. WTF. Like, make up your fcking minds you cunts! They forbid her from seeing her..like...only friend...just cause he might find out about her powers. ummm..you're a moron. If you worried about that so much, why did you condemn her from reading books and staying away from people? Of course she'll read books 24/7..the girl has no life!
>Her parents stupid again. With psychiatrists. Every time she ends up being a loner, or freaking out about her powers, they mention psychiatrist. Like seriously, EVERY. EFFING. TIME. They'll go something like this: honey, this is not something we can fix...you need to let it out..to some professional. LOL. I'm saying LOL now, but when I was reading the book, I wanted to kill everyone in the book and pull my hair out at the same time. How the FFFFFF is she going to get better if she cant tell anything to the fckingggggggggggggggggggggggg psychiatrist. The psych's can only help you if you tell them whats bugging you. Whats she gunna say? Hi,I'm Jamie Baker and I have superpowers and I killed my boyfriend with those superpowers, and I might kill my present boyfriend with my superpowers!"??????????????????Yeah, the parents are absolute morons. And I wanted them to dieeeeeeeeeee.
>Main character, after Ryan--aka annoying stalker-- starts to be around her, starts acting like a whiner baby.A pathetic annoying crying btching fcking annoying annoying annoying fcking moron. Guess it runs in the family.
>BF, Ryan, is annoying. Everything he does annoys the fck out of me. He pushes himself to her throughout the whole fcking book. THE WHOLE BOOK. Seriously, talk about dense mind. And stupidity. I cannot begin to tell you how many times he even annoys Jamie--the annoying girl. It takes skill to annoy someone who's annoying..since you know..they can candle it cause they're just like them. Anyways, Ryan, with his pouts and pushes and whatnot..was not cute at all..he was...intolerable. Pushy. Annoying. Eyeroll-worthy.
>The climax of the story: What climax? 9/10 of the story was about Jamie and Ryan hooking up--or trying to. The 1/10 part was boring. She suddenly gets the hang of her powers after years of having it and not practicing (I mean seriously, what kind of a teen--or human, for that matter--goes around moping when they have the power to rule the world? NOBODY!!!!!!!!You know what I would do with my powers? EVERYTHINGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!Anyways....she gets the hang of her powers and is suddenly invincible and still cant catch the guy-villain,without blowing useless shit up in his face first...yawn. Unnecessary,....zap the guy and be done with it. no need to destroy property. The whole climax was more boring than an episode of the big bang theory..oh who am I kidding..it was more boring than 5mins of one episode. Thats saying something. We couldve had this crazy cool villain and with fighting..but all I got..after all the torture..was a yawn. It's a no wonder I started this book in June..dumped it for months..then finished it recently...just to get it out of my "in progress" list.
>Villain was stupid. Stupid. stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid..i should just copy/paste that a few hundred times. He was a waste of my time. And he wasnt even proposing something bad. Use it against him dammit. He could be a useful asset!
>Good villain gone to waste: Carter would have been a brilliant villain, but no, we had to have a twist and make him the good guy..eyeroll.
>Valtrox or whatever BAD company was not even seen...not even threatening. Her whole life, shes afraid, and yet,...theres like nothing to be afraid of.
>The rape thing. I realize that this will play a crucial role in book 2..but still, it was covered and passed over like rape was nothing. That pissed me off to no end. WTF. rat the btch out! He deserves to be castrated!!!!!!!!And another thing that annoys me: Jamies old bf, who actually deserved to die, was a rapist himself....so why she didnt tell anyone how he almost fcked her by force, and to un-glorify him and get people to feel for her instead of hate her for his death...well...shes stupid..what can I say.
>Another thing that got annoying: she and everyone else kept saying how Ryan was so cute and all that nobody could say no to that face. Fcking kill me now. NOW.
This book sucked..and while I enjoyed V is for Virgin and A is for abstinence---at least main male protag in there was really fun!!!!!!...this book was not for me....I doubt I'll read the next in the series..maybe if I get desperate..but I have plenty of amazing books lined up..for the nest 3 years..so..unlikely.........
Solid 4 stars! This was SO FUN. A lot of stuff in here was pretty stupid and cheesy and over the top, but still - FUN. Lots of superhero, high school silly goodness with a cute romance.
I binge read this trilogy though, and I gotta say - it's one of those series where you kinda wish you just didn't bother by the end of it. But still, props to this first book which hooked me in right from Chapter 1.
I was fortunate enough to receive a copy of Being Jamie Baker from Kelly Oram in preparation for reading More Than Jamie Baker in exchange for an honest review shortly after its release, this will in no way effect my opinion on the book!
Even though I had hoped to get both of these read before MTJB released I hit a reading slump thanks to moving and what not this hasn't happened but I did finish this book on the release date of MTJB so I'm hoping I can make a swift start and finish on it too.
Anyway back to the review.
Being Jamie Baker actually has the perfect synopsis, its sums up the story perfectly without giving anything anyway, plus the cover is to die for. Jamie is the Ice Queen of her school, the loner and "freak", as she alienated herself from day one. But the Ice Queen image she has built starts to melt and crack after a kiss with Mr Popular - Ryan.
I think usually that kind of summary would leave me rolling my eyes and scoffing how silly it is one should change after an encounter with a boy, or because of the image she's created and trying to maintain but luckily this book isn't one that left me doing either of those.
And that is because Jamie has a reason to be the Ice Queen, she has super powers that she can't control all too well, that can be triggered by her emotions and whilst her school may know her as Ice Queen, her family know her as a Drama Queen so having super powers that like to go off when you're angry, sad, excited or well anything too emotional isn't the best of things.
The kiss changed Ryan before it changed Jamie though. He got a little super charged from the kiss and was surprised by her reaction and genuinely wanted to get to know her more, the trouble is Jamie had created this persona of herself to keep everyone safe and the truth about her hidden but as a class assignment happens that needs you to write a biography on another class mate, Ryan leaps at the chance to pair up with Jamie Baker.
I absolutely adored the development of their relationship, it was so gradual and lovely. You could see how hard to wanted to fight letting someone get close but eventually Ryan was just too persistent. Usually I'd probably be like "ugh stop being so needy or pushy" but it was done well in the book especially because you knew that Jamie did actually want to say yes and he was actually really patient with her.
But the book isn't just about their relationship no.
We also get to find out more about Jamie too, exactly what powers she does have, how and where they came from and the truth about the accident that gave them to her, plus we get to see her learning to have control over them and practising her ability to keep her emotions under control. Its great.
Plus there are a few other surprises outside of this that I don't really want to talk about because it'd just spoil it.
Of course we do come face to face with a bad guy, or two, which is all done really well.
But more importantly I want to talk about Mike and Becky. What I'm going to talk about here some may consider spoiler-worthy but I picked up on the truth very early on. In short, Mike raped Becky but it was all hush hush, hidden and only briefly referred too until towards the ending but that's because we were seeing it from Jamie's view and she had other things going on than to realise what had happened between people who were't even her friends at the time. But I was happy this subject was addressed, even if it was only briefly because its a very real thing that happens to so many people and I think that yes rape does need to be addressed in YA novels because I think readers needs to be aware just how cruel the world can be but how we, even as humans, can tackle it, fight the past and hopefully become a stronger person and know that the blame is never with the victim. Whilst I don't agree with Becky not going to the police, it was nice to show her as a character being not the usual popular girl you'd expect, but then also stepping back in to take her crown and facing her demons - Mike - and knowing who her real friends were and who should could actually rely on in her time of need.
Overall I adored this book and how it tackled both real life issues and that of the super world too. Nice mix up of the two. I can't wait to read the sequel.
LOVED IT!!! After reading lots of desperate and boring and repetitive books this was gift from the Gods!!! I mean it!
First of all the characters! I loved both of them, I loved that he was cocky and he loved the attention and he did not hide it, and he lived in it, but I loved that he was a human being. She, was something else, yeah she thought highly about Ryan...
This guy was on a whole different playing field than like 99.99 percent of all humans cursed with Y chromosomes.
...and after going through that much, still being herself, but hiding it, wanting something but doing everything, sacrificing her wishes and needs for the sake of the strangers, that ignored her, made fun of her, laughed at her, called her a freak, she deserved him and so much more. Jamie was a strong kick-ass character, she had a swag which was amazing, while I loved Ryan, and yeah he was hot and all, she stole my attention the most, which does not happen a lot with a guy like that in a perimeter.
Another thing about him, that he never gave up on anything, he took the risks all the time! I mean the beginning, I am glad author came up with something like that, since it really hooked me from the first second, and Ryan as well...
“But you’re a mystery to me. I like mysteries.”
And he went after what he wanted. I love it. I love when boys chase girls, since we deserve it, but not in a creepy way. I loved how he broke down her walls. Of course she fought him, again putting everything before and above her wishes...
I knew I’d made the right decision. It just didn’t feel like it.
But he fought....
“But it’s really frustrating that the one girl in school who doesn’t need to fight for me won’t even get in the ring.”
And he did it well!!!
The other thing that I loved about Ryan was that he did not hide her, he was not ashamed of liking the "freak". He stood up for her, sometimes she misunderstood him yes, but he did. However, I also liked that he did not go easy on her when she and his friends did not meet on a point. He judged fairly, which was admiring. And that is how he affected her, so she was like "I like this boy, and I am happy, and I have to sacrifice my cage in order to be happy, and have a social life".
It was true that I couldn’t be both the ice queen and Jamie. I had to choose. Right here. Right now.
This was a sacrifice that I approved of!
Another thing about it was that author never let you get bored, she made you guessing all the time, not only about the plot itself and events, but about as simple things as "can this character be good?" or "is there chance for them to work things out for him?". I mean the real life things... And I really liked Becky, she was a female version of Ryan. Can I be honest, she was much more then ANY character in this book, Jamie included. And I really ship her with Scott, they never actually dated or even talked, but I do not know why, I think they'd be amazing together. I guessed all the things and characters that happened here, her and Jamie's similar experience included. But hers broke my heart. She was the strongest character her, she held her head up after what happened and I was so awed by it!
The power inside of me was a part of me. It worked with me, not against me. It really was at my command, and now that I understood that, I had no more cause to fear it. It was the being afraid of the power in the first place that was hurting me.
Overall, everyone needs to read this book! It was AMAZING!!!
“Is it my turn to say I’m sorry yet?” That confused me. “What do you have to be sorry for?” Ryan grinned. And not at all apologetically. “I’m sorry for making you fall in love with me.”
Jamie Baker's life is split into two sections. Her BA which is before the accident, she was Miss Popular, a cheerleader and the ultimate pretty and peppy girl and had a great group of friends and an awesome boyfriend Derek. The second half of her life called AA - which is After Accident was like a personality switch had been turned on. Jamie Baker was not the same girl she had been before the accident. In fact, she should have been dead like her boyfriend. However, Jamie turned superheroine like and achieved superhero powers from when they crashed into the electric plant. After the accident, Jamie's family packed them up and moved across to somewhere where nobody knew what had happened and Jamie began a new school. She is the school weirdo, but the thing is she is also quite stunning and has attracted most of the football guys attentions. One thing leads to another and Jamie ends up being hounded by a persistent star Quarterback Ryan Miller. He won't let up on Jamie and knows something is up. What will happen though when he discovers her secret? Can Ryan help protect her from those wanting to exploit her secret superhero powers or will he become another lost casualty when the big guns are called in to track down Jamie Baker? Find out in Book #1 Being Jamie Baker - an introduction to a high school teen turned superhero by Kelly Oram.
I was eagerly anticipating BEING JAMIE BAKER when I saw it pop up on Around the World ARC Tours. In fact, saying that the back cover blurb intrigued me would probably be a huge understatement. For some reason, I was craving for a high school read with a cute boy interested in a potentially kick ass heroine.
I loved how Ryan acted with Jamie. I loved their interactions in general. The two were beyond adorable. I actually found myself sighing in jealousy quite a few times. Imagine having the popular boy in high school taking a keen interest in you. And then discovering that he's a sweetheart to boot? Oh boy.
The kiss scene between the two made me crack up into hysterical laughter. It was just so... unexpected. And then, of course, Ryan acted the way he did after said scene which of course, brings me back to a full circle gushing about the kid.
Then something happened. About halfway through the book, the reading went from fun and enjoyable to dragging on and on and on. I was so tempted to close the book at one point, despite my curiosity about the outcome of this tale. As it was, I did end up skipping quite a few paragraphs. They simply became repetitive and slightly boring for me.
But let me tell you, I did not regret finishing the book. While the ending was slightly weird--especially with who the villain was--I kind of enjoyed it. I think that BEING JAMIE BAKER is the type of read that is truly enjoyable when you're craving for a book like the back cover's blurb. But if you're looking for a YA read that will keep you hanging from the edge of your seat? This wasn't the one for me.
“Most superhero stories start with a meteor shower or a nasty insect bite, but mine actually starts with a kiss. Whether it was a kiss of life or a kiss of death I still haven’t decided, but it was, surprisingly, a really good kiss. Not that I’d ever tell him that.”
This book is amazingly good!!! I enjoyed every minute of reading this, and maybe that explains how I finished it in short span of time. But no kidding though I was really fascinated on how the story flowed.
I was used to reading a superhero kind of book. And this was the first that a woman was actually the ones who have the power. It was mostly guys right? Hahhaha. Anyway, the story was lot to take in, I was glad I was able to find an ebook copy for this. So i think i was really lucky enough! Jeez. I can't stop blubbing! Hahahah!
Anyway, When I started reading this, I was really puzzled about the "ice-queen"herself. I mean come on! Spill it out! How did it happen? An accidental superpowers? I wasn't able to get a grip with it so I read it, and read it, not realizing I was almost done with it. So yes! That is how good really this book is. ^^,
For the character. I loved Jamie. In fact I fell in love with her the moment I started reading this. I pity her for what she had gone through. But I also envy her for the courage she got to stand up to others. And be what she wanted to be. As for Ryan, oh well what can I say, he was really a charmer. And I can never blame why Jamie, the ice-queen, fell in love with the the moment she kissed him.
Hahhaha! Anyway, this is definitely a good book. Can't wait for the next sequel!!!!
Did you read that first line up there? That’s the first line of the book, wow. I love that line! What better way to start off a novel than with a kiss? I was at a writer’s conference a few weeks ago, and someone brought up a question in one of my sessions about voice. She didn’t understand what all the writers and agents meant by a novel having a voice. Well, if you are a writer and this is a mystery to you, I suggest reading Being Jamie Baker. This novel is a prime example. The author has a rare talent to make you feel as if you’re not reading, but listening in on someone’s private thoughts. Not only that, but Jamie is a wonderful character who I related to easily. If I were in her situation, I imagine I would handle it in much the same way and with the same attitude as would any girl, any real girl. It’s always refreshing to read something with a little bit of humor, and I found myself laughing with Jamie and Ryan. The two of them definitely have “sparks” and I can’t help but love a guy pursuing a girl who doesn’t want to be chased, ahh, its good fun. Ryan Miller is your typical Mr. Popular for all intents and purposes, but as you get to know him through Jamie’s eyes, you see that he has a depth and sincerity that not only can melt the Ice Queens heart, but also have you swooning and wanting him to win her over. This is a great and beautiful love story with a bit of humor and drama thrown in the mix to make a wonderfully crafted novel.
I highly, highly recommend it! I give it 5 flames!
A to odštartuje skvelý príbeh !
O a koľko ho bolo ! Je dosť možné, že za to môžu moje teenegerske hormóny ,alebo som sa poriadne vžila do Jamie, ale revala som. A nakoniec to bolo zavŕšené skvelou akčnou scénou ! Kniha plna prekvapení ! Už teraz očakávam druhý diel a už sa teším na ďalšiu krásnu obálku. No už horšie je...Kto ma sakra čakať ešte ROK na jej vydanie ?
