A western icon meets popular culture How to be a Cowboy is a compendium of knowledge and insight, wit and wisdom, an all around resource for every aspect of cowboy life. It includes the least you need to know about ranching, rodeoing, cooking, dancing, music, yodeling, boots, shirts, horses, hats, buckles, denim, lingo, poetry, and even how to walk like a cowboy. Cowboy history and culture come to light through photos, excerpts, short stories, poems, drawings, prose, and more.
"How to be a Cowboy" is as bad a piece of hack work as I have seen in a long time - i.e. it's got nice photographs and an accompanying text that is frankly embarrassing. I should know! I spent 30 years churning out Advertising Features for local newspapers, mostly about things I hadn't a clue about. The title is somewhat inaccurate - it should read "How to look idiotic while pretending to be a real Cowboy!" After sections about boots, shirts and Bolo Ties it descends into Cowboy trivia, before turning an eye on hats, spurs, rodeos etc. As a physical book it might work as a joke present, as an Ebook it doesn't work on any level. 2 Stars - both for the photographs.
some text about the circus attire that fascinates posers like Jerry A. Coyne or George W. Bush would wear. it looks like the old white male equivalent of the disney princess. equally realistic and overpriced.
Great birthday gift from friends. Perfect coffee table and conversation book that can be enjoyed lightly by the true cowboy or passer through. Fun quotes and lots of good pics to go with some sound explanations and some playful perspective. Enjoy!!
an entertaining read. I enjoyed it. Lots of little tidbits I was curious about. Goes through the cowboy anatomy from clothing, boots, to how they live and act.
