I think the author used advanced vocabulary to make up for the bad writing so it seems the book is for adult audience. I personally felt no connection between the main characters. It would have been better to see their relationship developing from the start with a lot of tension and forced proximity. I ended up DNFing it at 25%. Overall it was boring. I am disappointed because the book was one of my most anticipated.
The writing is just not for me. There is no flow or any structure. I wanted to stick with it, but it was too frustrating. Sorry, but this one’s a miss.
On my hands and knees begging for more sapphic romance authors to read some books about plot structure before putting their hands on a keyboard because I can’t keep doing this. How do you write a book without conflict? How do you write a book that remains stagnant? How do you have a premise that begs for slow burn and angst but deliver vapid and dull? Im not asking for the next Pulitzer winner like I knew going in that it was going to be at least 70% sex and vibes but even a Pokemon game has more of a plot.
Also if anybody reading this plans to work with this kind of premise I highly recommend reading some bell hooks before pulling out a google doc. Incorporating/exploring her thoughts + writings on Eros (her word, not mine) in the classroom is basically a cheat code I promise.
had sm potential but started in a way it had me questioning if this book was in an interconnected series or book two of a duet, like i was missing something
I liked this book, but there was too many things missing there for it to be great one. Like there was almost no drama in there whatsoever. And the relationship between main characters for me it was just too sweet and unproblematic. Some parts of it were quite boring. And as much as I love the professor student dynamic, here the relationship was not exciting at all. I expected more from this book, that’s for sure.
I loved this beautiful romance book, and what makes it better is that it is Sapphic. Elia Johnson did such an amazing job with telling Alena and Amelia's love story.
From start to end, this book had me in a hold. I remember seeing the author posting about this story before it was released, and I legit was waiting on the days for it to be released.
The thing that has me shocked was Amelia's age, and I'm near enough her age, and I'm waiting for my Alena.
Now on to Alena. I can't tell you enough how much I love her character. She is perfect and definitely one of my favourite characters of the year.
This book doesn't have any drama, but in this case, it doesn't need it as plenty of scenes keep you focused. (*Cough *Cough the romance scenes.)
I don't have a single bad thing to say about this book. I will tell you to go and get yourself a copy of this book, as you will be missing out if you don't.
I really enjoyed this book. Alena is Amelia’s professor and forbidden romance is one of my favorite tropes. Their relationship was intense at first with some drama due to the teacher student issue but without too much angst. There was an age gap of 6 years which I didn’t see much of a problem personally. I enjoyed the college romance part of it which was funny, entertaining and refreshing. I really enjoyed the writing, story and everything about this book. I was hooked from chapter one.
3.5 ⭐️ there’s no buildup: they are together at page 10 and we never really learn why are they attracted to each other. the first half of the book almost felt predatory. The second half is better. No angst, nothing really “hidden” in their relationship. few bits of spice. this book had so much potential
3.5 stars. For a debut novel, this was such a fun read! Cheesy and predictable, yet cute, flirty, and spicy. Looking forward to more from the author, hopefully more sapphic content.
Honestly didn’t fully know what to expect coming in but I was pleasantly surprised with this read. It was a very cute slice of life romance book. Had a bit of spice here and there but never extremely overwhelming. I know a lot of people were expecting some extreme spice and very toxic/ dark romance but this wasn’t that and I’m honestly glad it wasn’t. It was a more mature and fun read with interesting and realistic characters. Def would read again if I could or heck give me a time skip sequel!
I have never read a book that made me giggle and blush so much. It definitely had a lot of healing and communication tropes. I also have never seen a book like this where you are with the characters from strangers to every single conversation till they are lovers. Both mature who make mistakes and work through them. It has the tiniest angsty part that basically it isn’t even angst. *SWITCHING SIDES*
I was really looking forward to this book, but it turned out flat. The book would have benefited from both characters POV and an in-depth story. Maybe it should have been called “The Student.”
there was no conflict???? like usually books have like a main conflict that happens near the middle to end of the story so I kept expecting something to happen and there was just nothing. a lot of sex but no issues. the closest thing to a conflict I got was the student saw the professor talking to her soon-to-be-ex-wife and she got upset and stopped talking to her for like 2 days and they made up immediately after and that took up a whole of 5 pages. and there were multiple parts that could've turned into a conflict and there was just nothing. no one reported the professor to the university or tried to blackmail them after finding out abt their relationship and the ex-wife was annoying but didn't do anything to sabotage the relationship. after reading it, it's just kinda boring. super smutty but kinda boring. I wanted drama and conflict and yelling and stuff but all I got was gay sex and a love story. yes I wanted them to end up together in the end but go through some hardships for once in your life damn

DNFed 10% in for the sake of my few remaining braincells. This reads like a Wattpad book.
It feels as though the author is expecting us to trust her that the characters should fall in love, since there are no concrete reasons for them to. There is no true chemistry, just an acknowledgement that both parties are into each other for reasons unbeknownst to me. I may not be a seasoned reader, but it should be a basic goal for a love story to make the reader fall in love alongside the reader.
On another note, none of the three characters make sense. The FMC acts like a silly 13 year old who gets dreams and thinks they've alternated her life. And to be stupid enough to reveal them? No. The best friend feels solely decorative, and is there only to deliver a fact that makes the story possible or to do the FMC a favor by checking in on her. No true purpose.
I hope my messy opinions in no particular order made sense. Save your time kids!
The Professor Review 4 & a quarter star - This book starts off strong but I believe it drags a lot once the conflict gets resolved, if you even call it that, but I still was invested throughout the book. I loved the spicy scenes they were 🤬ing in almost every chapter (especially towards the end, down to the last sentence 😆) but be warned in some of the scenes the writer only puts the build up in & then next thing you know we talking with mya. It slightly annoyed me but the last couple of chapters made up for it. Idk if she was teasing us like she had Alena doing to Amelia but it worked I'd be so impatient
I also like to point out for my black girlies. We being represented 💃🏾😝
Overall this book was funny, cute, sexy and hot it made me cry in some aspects like when the mc got advice from her grand ma
The first ~130 pages were really enjoyable but the rest was really not my cup of tea.
I'm a fan of slow burn so I was a bit disappointed that this wasn't a slow burn. I still really enjoyed it at first and it made me blush. But it just got boring. I feel like nothing really happened and the side characters weren't interesting at all so I skipped a lot of pages.
I'm not a huge fan of spice but I didn't mind it at first. But at some point it just annoyed me that they couldn't do anything without getting horny.
I didn't really care for Amelia but I really LOVED Alena at first. She was definitely "my type" at first but she also got too horny for my liking as the book went on.
I also feel like there wasn't really a plot? Besides them being professor and student.
Im kinda disappointed. Expected a diffraction storyline.
I hoped for an angsty slow burn romance between the professor and her student. Instead I got a sweet romance, in which they basically declared their love in chapter 5. They already were involved with each other in the beginning, which I thought was kind of disappointing. I would’ve loved to see their relationship build with the obstacle of Alena being Amelias teacher. The teacher student trope wasn’t really an obstacle at all, it was Alena’s wife.
All in all it was kinda boring and sometimes I had to force myself to keep reading. But if you are into stories like this, this book is for you.

It felt like a whole experience, maybe it's because the main character is about my age, and that allowed me to relate to the story even more. As a student, it was kinda funny to ' experience' a school event from another perspective.
This book made me discover the beauty of poetry and the thrill and excitement of love. It got me to read more poetry and turned out that I love it! (For a little while now, I have been writing poetry and have written a few things myself.)
It's beautiful to see the relationship build-up from the ground up. And it made my heart melt to read about the sweet & adorable relationship.
I think they tried really hard but there were so many things even just at the beginning of this book that made it difficult for me to read it. There was a lot of explaining but not much happening. The narration was quite disconnected. The jump from present to past was a bit awkward. The progression with story telling could’ve been done with better paragraphing and separating in chapters. I’m not claiming to be an expert in english but as a reader myself the way it’s written made it really frustrating for me to continue. The connection between the two characters lacked so much depth.
I’ve only read some chapters and struggling to finish at this point.
I give this one 4.5 stars. The reason I don’t give it a 5 is the end felt rushed and I was expecting there to be more but instead it felt like it abruptly ended. That being said it’s a story about a student and professor falling in love (7 year age gap). You follow along as their relationship progresses and they navigate whatever life throws them. Overall an easy read, not too heavy, and spicy! I love how the author approaches a wlw relationship where one of the characters has more experience with being in a relationship and sex than the other and how they navigated that.
I was initially hesitant to read it just because of the professor student trope but this was such a cute read. It balances the complexity of the relationship and also shows the growth of the story. I would highly recommend this for anyone who wants a cute low drama sapphic story with just a little spice. I read Ella’s book “For Her” too and that was great, I’m excited to see what else she writes!
