“The safer you feel, the more danger you’re in…” Sophia Woodville has survived Yeqon’s clutches to return to the safety of Kaymakli. Despite loss and the kidnapping of her best friend, she gains strength, knowledge and a healthy appetite for revenge in a world overrun by Daimon. Whilst focused on Enoch’s clues for the portal, she doesn’t notice that there is another danger rising, a new enemy with a different agender. At a time when she’s pulled between loyalty and obligation, between those she loves and the strange prisoner called Ben, Sophia has to find a way to bring everyone together, to know friend from foe, and to end the bloodshed, to save humanity from destruction.
Hold onto your seats, friends and bookworms. Things are about to take a dark turn.
(not that this series was ever that light to begin with *ahem*)
The author really came into her own over the course of this series, and Allegiance beautifully shows off all her skills, from world building over character development to banter. Thomas has raised the stakes, she puts her characters through more than ever before - especially her main character, Sophia, who's in a dark place for much of this - and Yeqon and his horde are closing in from all sides.
I loved learning more about the characters (especially Koi in this book and the concluding title), and Sophia especially has been on quite a ride. She does a lot of growing in this book as the author throws ever harder challenges her way. Plot twists are everywhere, and the banter really makes it shine!
I was extremely fortunate to have been Thomas's editor on this book and Book 4 (Redemption) as it's allowed me to follow her progress close-up. She's an author who's not afraid to go all out with her poor characters and to throw ever harder challenges their way, and this book is the beautiful result of her ambition. This lady can *write*! I'm excited to see what she does next and just how far she'll take herself in her writing career. She's an author to watch, trust me ;)
But I'm rambling. If you love dark urban fantasy with brilliant characters and all the twists, then this is a great series to binge!
This book had me so intrigued. It was such a page turner! During this book Sophia had a really hard time. She was put through so much. She had just came back from the Damien realm, had some memories wiped (which she didn’t know yet) and her best friend Jaz was taken away! All Sophia wanted was to talk to Jaz. She kept trying and trying to find her but she knew to find her she would have to ask the one person no one trusted there, Ben. Despite what others thought she kept her hopes up. I like that Sophia isn’t a perfect person, she makes mistakes. And especially after being thrown into a world she never thought existed she is doing a hell of a good job! I love Ben’s character too. I think secretly he is a really nice person and hopefully in the next book we will see that! There is so many scenes from this book I really enjoyed! I don’t really want to say too much because I am afraid I will spoil the book so I will leave it at that. The ending had me starting at the ceiling wondering what had just happened. I really need to read the next book as I am just hanging on, I need to know! And I think that about wraps up my review for Allegiance. I really have enjoyed The A’vean Chronicles so far and I will definitely be recommending it to a lot of people!
Wow what a fantastic read!! I was super excited to read the third novel in the series and what a ride. My favourite things about this novel is the high fantasy, and the characters that bring this story to life as we follow Sophie deeper into A’vean. The ending had left me shocked and wanting more!
Book three in the epic A'vean Chronicles angel/demon fantasy quartet by G R Thomas.
Fast paced and skilfully written, Allegiance drops us right into the action, as the story of Sophia Woodville spirals into ever darker territory. With her best friend missing, Sophia has no choice but to continue her quest for the elusive key that is her destiny, but it's certainly not an easy ride. There's darkness ever-looming, something that shadows her every footstep.
What I like about Sophia is that she's not a typical heroine. She makes mistakes, takes wrong turns, but never gives up.
The writing in this one is more self-assured, the author definitely finding her stride as she puts her characters through all manner of heartache and turmoil.
The final book, Redemption, releases at the end of September so you don't have long to wait, ample time to binge the whole series!
(I beta read this one at the end of last year. My thanks to the author for the early peek!)
Book three in the epic A’vean Chronicles quartet by G.R. Thomas. This book hits the ground running and doesn’t let up until the very last page. The war against the darkness is going badly, with Yeqon and his forces of evil defeating the Angelic horde at every turn. With Sophia’s mind distracted by the disappearance of her best friend, Jaz, she has had to try to focus all her efforts on learning to control her powers and follow the clues to discover the ultimate weapon.
Well-written and gripping, Allegiance has a real sense of impending doom about it. Storm clouds are gathering, and Sophia and her allies must use every ounce of strength and cunning that they possess if they are to stand a chance of winning a war that must not be lost.
The author weaves a complex and tightly knit plot, one which skilfully draws together all the disparate threads in the tapestry to reveal a brightly coloured picture. The main character of Sophia is one to be admired. Thrown unwittingly into this world, she has had to learn fast precisely who and what she is, and deal with unrelenting adversity and revelation.
A strong woman, Sophia has had to reach deep inside and draw upon reserves she never knew she had, as she seeks to carve out her place in this brave new world she now inhabits. All the time knowing the fate of the world rests upon her slight shoulders. But there is a greater, far more terrifying threat to Sophia’s future – the lure of the darkness itself.
A strong and intriguing addition to the A’vean world created by G.R. Thomas, I very much enjoyed this book and look forward to reading the final book, Redemption.
Once again G.R Thomas out done her self and has transported me to A'vean. As a reader, when an author can make you feel the same feelings as their character, that is the best feeling in the world. To get lost in the book as if you were Sophia or Ben, each character has their own spell to weave over you.
You feel Sophia's weight of the world on her shoulders and how she is struggling to cope with it all, to find herself and just how truly powerful she is. You feel for her, I cried for her, I was elated for her wins, my heart ached for her as well. No matter what gets thrown at Sophia she takes it all in her stride.
Her friends rally around her and these characters make such an impact on you that they all seem to have such a big part - no matter how small. You want to know more.
I don't want to give too much away! I want everyone to discover the magnificent journey that is on offer. G.R. Thomas's writing is absolutely amazing.
With all the dark days we are having this year - This book is silver lining of the year. If you have not read The A'vean series I highly recommend - NO I telling you- Go read this book and the others. Be transported away to Sophia's world; full of Angels, Demons and magic where things are not exactly how they seem. I cannot begin to tell you how gripping this book is without giving too much away. I am so excited for Redemption. Thank you G.R Thomas for bringing such a delightful series to life.
Allegiance, the much anticipated third book in the A'vean Chronicles, by GR Thomas.
We head straight into the action, picking up the pace where the last book, Surrender, left us. The story of Sophia Woodville and her epic, angelic journey and quest gets much darker and in-depth in this book. With the constant distraction of her missing best friend Jaz, hanging in her thoughts, Sophia has to focus her energy on how to harness and control her powers and ultimately solve the clues to find the weapon to defeat evil. But Sophia has something else to worry about... the darkness is calling.
As with the previous books in the series, Allegiance is a self-assured, well crafted and gripping novel. The pace is constant as with all terrific page-turners. G.R Thomas puts her all into her writing as well as an apparent love of her characters, both good and bad, bringing them to life with in-depth personalities and abilities.
If you a lover of epic adventures of divine proportions, the A'vean Chronicles is a must-read, especially with the forthcoming release of the final instalment, Redemption. I am eagerly awaiting!
Love the third book in this series by GR Thomas. A real page turner that I didn't want to put down. Can't wait for book #4 Redemption to be released at the end of September so I find out what happens. If you are looking to get lost in a world of angels and demons I can definitely recommend the A'vean Chronicles.
Still trying to unravel the clues to Enoch's box to find the portal home, Sophia has to team up with Ben while unaware of her past connection with him. They must also work together to get back Jaz, who has been kidnapped in a bid to distract Sophia from her mission. New enemies crop up in this third book in the series, but none so great as the enemy Sophia faces during the final pages. It's a twist you'll love, and another excellent cliffhanger to close out this epic story and set up the final book in the series.
Loving this storyline, loving these characters. I feel like this is the book I really connected with the characters the most, and got fully invested in the personal story lines of even the supporting characters. A few heart breaking moments. Beware the Cliffhanger ending, have Redemption ready to read as soon as you finish Allegiance. Really looking forward to diving into the conclusion. With each book I’m falling more and more into this world, it’s getting harder and harder to put these books down.
