Review for 'Dangerous Ledges' by Fallon Raynes

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Fallon Raynes LLC

This is the first book that I have read by this author. I would definitely be interested in reading more of her books.

This book sucked me straight in and kept me on a roller coaster ride all the way until the unexpected ending. I just couldn't put it down!! It would actually be very interesting to see this turned into a film.

It is a creepy psychological thriller filled with tension, friendships, suspense, love and lies.

I think that Fallon seemed to have done some research into police procedures and it shows through in her writing which is always nice to see. I've read many books where I'm wondering what the author was thinking with some of the police procedures they described.

The book has been written from the majority of the characters perspectives so you can see most of what is going on and how they are all feeling. The only thing I would have suggested is maybe putting the name of the character by the chapters so the reader can tell who is 'speaking '. However, I found it to be very well written and didn't have any problems reading it as it is.

The characters are all very realistic and well developed and the descriptions made me feel like I was right there next to them the whole time.

There are parts of the book where it goes from past to present and back again which I found helpful as it gave the history of Liz and Ledge's relationship.

Trigger subjects of domestic abuse and violence.

I would recommend this book to fans of psychological thrillers, suspense, mystery, crime and anyone really looking for a good book!!

I look forward to seeing more books from this very talented author.

99p to purchase on kindle. I think this is a bargain for this book!!

“Dangerous Ledges” is a harrowing story of domestic abuse/crime! A newly divorced woman is kidnapped by her ex who has a dark and demonic side to him. If he can’t have her, nobody can.

Fallon Raynes has certainly written a terrifying tale of psychological horror, emotional/physical torture, and so much more. It definitely felt like a story that could (and probably has) happened in reality.

I enjoyed getting the perspectives of Liza’s friends and family, and even the police officers as they raced against the clock to find clues to her abduction and save her.

First off I want to thank @netgalley & Fallon Raynes for my advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

Wow ! I was hooked from page one and couldn't stop until this was finished. Kept me engrossed and wanting more with every page flip.

You're in for a thrilling, non-stop, creepy, intense ride. The characters are quickly developed but it didn't take away from the story. Ledge what a creepy, deranged, flawed and horrible individual and I loved it. This book checked all the boxes for me, it was fast paced, intriguing, non stop thrills and twists. It starts and ends with a bang. That's all I can ask for a thriller. For a shorter book the plot is well developed, there is no useless information or blurb, everything is necessary.

I wasn't expecting that ending, I thought it would go in another way which I loved this one even more. If you're a fan of fast paced thrillers add this one to your list.

INTENSE . THRILLING . NAIL BITING . PAGE TURNER. I WANT MORE PLEASE!

Wow ... I didn't see that coming! Loved DANGEROUS LEDGES, and love Liza's character. Liza is a strong, confident woman that knows exactly what she wants - and that is NOT her crazy two or three timing Ex Husband anymore. And Ledge; well ... you will see soon enough. Don't let him trick you, don't let your guard down for one second. His mind is complicated, and his twisted sense of reality sets the perfect stage for this nostalgic love story gone wrong.

From the first page, I was quickly swept up in the vividly painted pictures of the creepy Michigan countryside setting. I felt like I was right there watching Liza’s nightmare unfold through the window; and constantly guessing ‘What would Ledge do next?’ Excited to see what Fallon Raynes brings us next, a true talented rising star. Don't pass this book by; it’s well worth your time!

OH MY HOLY HELL! Fallon Raynes completely blew my mind with Dangerous Ledges! In fact, I'm so shocked that this is her first full length book (I read that she had been previously been writing poems & short stories), and that shock turned into awe & wonder because she should have been releasing books long before this, so color me a 100% fan girl now! This story isn't a HEA kind of story with lots of emotions & love for the normal romance reader, however, I'm ALL about this type of psychological thriller with so many twists & turns that everything was pure chaos, putting me in my particular happy place of dropping loud f-bombs! I had no clue as to what the next page would bring, so yeah, IT'S EPIC in my opinion. As the blurb says, Liza McAllister got talked into taking a cruise with her friends after finding herself newly divorced. However, there's someone in the shadows who has other plans. Not only that, but Ledge McAllister (her ex-husband) is determined to get his wife back as his life completely sucks without her. And let me tell you, you may think you know what's going to happen, but you don't know until you know by experiencing this story, as nothing as it seems on the surface. So, hit that one click button to get on this crazy train of a thrill ride for yourselves! As for me?! I CANNOT WAIT for Ms. Raynes to put out more stories, and HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!

Dangerous Ledges by Fallon Raynes is my first book by this very talented author and definitely not my last. This is psychological thriller that you won’t be able to put down. Ms. Raynes will take you on the ride of your life. It is a fast paced story that will leave your jaw on the floor. The story is well developed that deals with some sensitive issues but are handled with care. Domestic abuse, kidnapping and obsessions are just a few. But along with the negative their is also some positives like family, love and deep friendship that play a big part in the story! The characters are real and you will feel a part of this book. From the beginning to the end you will be guessing about that very unexpected ending. I highly recommend this completely engrossing book to anyone who loves a good psychological thriller. I am so looking forward to Fallon Raynes next book!

A story that is unfortunately all too common in our world…a cheating spouse, a divorce, and an ex-spouse who just can’t let go.

This is a really good, fairly quick read. It follows the story of Liza, a woman who caught her spouse cheating on more than one occasion and finally had enough. After the divorce, he decides that he just can’t let her go and takes matters into her own hands. In a twisted attempt to win her back, he whisks her away to a hidden property in the woods to remind her of what she is missing without him.

The only problem is…Ledge (the ex-spouse) has a problem. When he’s angered, which does not take much, the “demon” comes out. The demon is violent, and Ledge doesn’t always remember what happens during those episodes. Liza is forced to play along…or die.

I really enjoyed this novel. It had a few typographical errors, and a couple of lines of dialogue felt a little stilted, but it’s still a great little book. I unfortunately relate, having an ex-husband who was abusive behind closed doors but everyone outside of that thought he was such a great person. The situation in this book was always a fear of mine when we got divorced. I was lucky…so many women aren’t. This book could definitely be triggering to those sensitive to domestic abuse situations.

“Tiptoe, Liza. The eggshells are covering the floor.”
… and those eggshells were so viciously sharp that I’m not sure if tiptoeing would have helped …

I’m struggling a bit writing this review. Not because this book wasn’t fantastic but because it hit a bit too close to home for me. Even as I’m typing this, my heart is in my throat.

That’s the beauty of the way this book was written. Its intimate whisper makes you feel quite deeply.
You may find yourself nodding and smiling, as you hear about Liza’s new start in life, surrounded by friends and loved ones, after she escaped a toxic marriage.
You may find your heart conflicted, aching yet fearful, when you read about how much that new life cost her ex-husband, Ledge.
You may find yourself stomach clench and your heart leap into your throat when meet the Demon.
Lastly, you may feel conflicted when you are done… uncomfortably satisfied but also deeply sad.

Where is the difference between love and obsession? How far is too far to go to hold on to the one you love?

“The storm was brewing; she could feel it buzzing from within him. Tiptoe, Liza.”

Dangerous Ledges is hard shot of reality. While the author did not base it on actual events, it reads as if it was. A very realistic look at domestic violence and mental illness. Fallon Raynes’ writing is direct; nothing is sugar-coated. I thoroughly enjoyed it and am impressed that it is her first novel.

She presents us with Ledge, a man who had everything he wanted in life; a beautiful loving wife, a successful business, good friends, and two children that are young adults on their way to their own successes. Overall, he seems to be a pretty good guy, a bit controlling and over competitive sure, but a decent man. He does have a couple of major problems, the first being that he is frequently unfaithful to his wife, which is what ultimately forces Liza to divorce him. The second is the result of taking a medication to assist his smoking cessation. The pill alters his chemical balance, and he has fits of blackout rage. Pushing the formerly normal guy to become an obsessed, violent monster. The Demon, as Raynes calls him. While I want to hate him, I actually feel sorry for him. That doesn’t mean I wasn’t cheering for Liza the entire time though.

Millions suffer from mental illness and do not seek the help they need. Millions of others are victims of domestic abuse; physical, emotional & mental abuse.

So, while not a true story, this is a story of truth. It happens everywhere every day.

I wish that I would have liked this one more. From glancing at the reviews on Goodreads, a few seemed to have enjoyed this one a lot. I’m not sure if I just wasn’t in the right frame of mind, (with the spread of the virus going on) or maybe I’m just in need of something new, (something outside of the thriller genre🤭)

Pros:
-The plot interested me a lot. I liked the idea behind this book, and I’m normally drawn to books of this type.
-The pacing of this story was good. None of it felt too rushed.

Cons:
-I feel like in some parts of the book it was written more like a YA book. The character used phrases such as: “hell to the no,” and “ He did quit smoking. I’ll give him that. But he didn’t quit boinking.” This only really happened for the first 20% and then it flipped and thankfully, the writing seemed a lot more mature.
-I didn’t connect to any of the characters, which was such a bummer because if I had been able to, I think that I would have enjoyed this one more.
-It skipped between multiple characters, (5? 6?)when I wished that it would focus on the two main ones more as I was the most interested in reading their side of the story. (I also feel that this would have helped me connect to the main character more)

Small note: I think that it could have been helpful labeling the title of the chapters by which character’s side of the story we were following. It wasn’t necessarily confusing, as I understood within the first couple of sentences but still could be helpful.

I recommend this book to those looking for a quick domestic type thriller. It has 4 stars on Goodreads right now, and a few of my bookstagram friends also seemed to have liked this one a lot!

I will be the first to tell you I’m all about the romance books when it comes to reading. I like the warm fuzzy feeling I get from the HEA’s.

So I’m sure you are wondering why I read this book. It’s a psychological thriller. It’s NOT a romance. Well the blurb sucked me in. I kept going back to read it so I decided I had to give it a try. I’ve read mysteries with a touch of romance so I figured it’s time to give into thrillers.

Let me just say my mind is BLOWN! 100% blown! There was not one moment while reading Liza and Ledge’s story that I could even remotely anticipate what was coming next. This book is heart pounding, stomach dropping, clutch your pearls and say about a million prayers kind of crazy.

Trust me when I say give it a shot even if psychological thrillers aren’t your jam. Give a new to you author a try. This book could most definitely have potential to be a crazy tv series or movie. If you are riding the fence on reading it then take a dive and explore something new.

Liza and Ledge have gone through a divorce. Liza had to file, because of the demons in Ledge. He had been taking a drug that made him short tempered and mean, dangerous even
Their twin children don't know the extent of the terror she endured. Now they are studying for college finals, she prefers to leave it in the past. They love their father and she doesn't want to mar the image they have of him.
Now she is going on a cruise with her friend. She is somewhat excited. It's a chance for her to get away.
When her friend can't find her on the boat. She is worried her friend has changed her mind. That is until she touches base with others as to her whereabouts. No one knows, she has simply disappeared.
Great story. Love the characters!

A darker theme about a cheating man trying to save his marriage. Liza McAllister has had it. Her two children are in college and her husband Ledge continues to promise, but fails at being faithful. When she catches him this last time she files for divorce and plans on a taking cruise with her friend. Instead, she’s drugged and wakes up in a closed room with her crazy ex keeping her hostage. He tells her that she belongs to him. Her only hope is that her friend will have someone looking for her. A final argument between them leads to a surprise ending. My first signed copy of a book and what an enjoyable read, too! When Liza is kidnapped by her ex-husband because he refuses to let her go, and to make it worse, has serious issues controlling his temper, everything is set up for a tense journey.
Well-written and edited, I was really scared for Lizabeth as she tries to figure out an escape plan. Her ex-husband, Ledge, could snap at any moment and no one can save her...
Definitely recommend for thriller fans. Looking forward to reading more from Fallon.

The book started out pretty strong in my opinion. It was good for most of the way through it. Some of it was slightly irritating but still written in a way that it was realistic, so it was MEANT to irritate you. I wasn't really fond of the ending. Seemed super abrupt as if the author didn't know how to finish it so was just like, "Ok. The end." Good for a quick one time read.

Overall, this is a pretty good story about a man driven to desperation and fueled by chemical changes to his personality. It’s nicely woven between the main characters, their friends, children, and police. The writing felt a little choppy at times, which was my only real problem with the book.

You are going to love to hate Ledge! This is a spooky psychological thriller that flows so smoothly you'll be up all night reading it.

Ledge has issues. After Liza finally works up the courage to leave him knowing that their children are safely tucked away at college, he loses his ever-loving mind. He's smart though, that Ledge. He waits until Liza books a fun cruise with her friends and is expected to be out of town before he takes action. Liza knows his brand of crazy well, and what ensues is a nerve-gripping dance of desperation carefully masked against a man who will stop at nothing to get what he wants.

This one is an easy five stars for pacing, relatable characters, tension building and interesting twists. Fallon Raynes can WRITE.

But her ex has other plans in mind, he is convinced he needs to do anything in his power to get her back, she belongs to him.

This was a quick read for me, and I really wanted to like it because the synopsis had me hooked but I just couldn't get in to it. The writing style was ok, it just seemed a bit cliche to me

Definitely not a love story

Really enjoyed this book. It wasn't as drastic as I thought it would be. From the description I thought it would be more physical and mental. Ledge didn't have a fully thought out plan for kidnapping his ex-wife, Liza. He hadn't planned on her friends reporting her missing. That put a kink in his plans. I was surprised at the ending.

The cover and the title made me want to dive right into this book. It did take me a minute to get hooked. But once it hooked me, I was all in. Ledge and Liza were high school sweethearts that married and had twins. Their lives had some ups and some major downs. Especially since Ledge could not stop his eye from wandering and keep his hands and other parts to himself. Once Lisa walked in and found him in a compromising position with a blond, the marriage was over. Leaving her to be able to breath and him making plans to win her back. The winning back part is a little bit like kidnapping and keeping her hostage until he has her back in his "loving" arms. Thank you to Fallon Raynes for my gifted copy of this insanely, intense read.

This was a different kind of horror read. There are plenty of triggers in this one. However, it was a thrilling read for me, in a good way. It focuses on the real-life monster known as mental illness and its effects if not taken care of. It got really good toward the end.

The ending is a good one, so no worries about a bad or disappointing ending. However, it will make you cry. Overall, it was a great read but it's one that touches on real-life tropes that some might not be comfortable with.

Despite the triggers, it was a book I enjoyed. I look forward to reading more from the author.

Dangerous Ledges is not a romance novel but it is full of love and care. Liza is a newly divorced mother of collage aged twins that is convinced to go on a cruise by her closest friends but she doesn't arrive, Ledge is the ex-husband who doesn't respect boundaries and is obsessed with his ex-wife. Suspensful and intriguing, this book has multiple POV and is very well written, the author has done her research. I enjoyed the family and friendships and read this book like a movie in my head. Liza is a strong and admirable main character and I definitely recommended Fallon Raynes work.

A psychological thrill ride.

"Dangerous Ledges" is definitely an "I could not put it down" type of book. A life long romance gone sour. I loved the clues being put together throughout the story. It almost had a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde vibe. I absolutely adored every minute of it.

This books was fantastic. So well written and in such detail. It honestly made it seem so real. The details made it even better because the way it was written seemed like it was something the writer went through themselves but I'm not sure if it was but the details make it seem that way but it was so very good.

Fallon Raynes deserves kudos for penning a riveting story that holds readers attention. This thought-provoking story confronts a disturbingly familiar societal problem. Throughout the book, the author balances frightening, realistic, and dramatic elements, making for a quick read. The fact that this is her first published book is nothing short of remarkable.
