The Prophet Muhammad: The Best of All Husbands

Rate this book
In marriage, it often happens that we come across a situation in which things seem to be going haywire, and we wonder what would have been the ideal stance and the best way to handle this problem.

For Muslims, the best stance and the best way is that of the Prophet Muhammed (salallahu alayhi wasallam). Allah has taught that this is how we should seek to resolve our conflicts:

{If you differ in anything among yourselves, refer it to Allah and His Messenger if you do believe in Allah and the Last Day: that is best and most suitable for final determination.} (Qur'an 4:59)

Our Prophet (salallahu alayhi wasallam) was a husband with eleven women, each of whom has revealed to us her personal impressions of some or the other aspect of his exemplary personality.

This book is a must-read for all married couples-and for any Muslim man or woman who is contemplating marriage-who wish to achieve satisfaction in their personal lives.

Many people will think that my opinion of the book is bias since I am a Muslim, but I really believe that any person with any religious background can benefit from this book. Most books in the market are focused on how wives should treat their husbands. This book is focused on how husbands should treat their wives. Through the actions of the prophet, the reader can infer how those actions can affect the wife in a positive way and lead to a successful marriage. The book describes that through the prophets’ compassion, gentleness and justice in dealing with his wives, many of the conflicts present in marriages would not exist.

On a separate note, (bringing my Muslim side here!), the book addresses the issue of polygyny and how many people use it to attack Islam and the prophet. It sheds some light on why the prophet had plural marriages and the story behind the marriages to remove any misconceptions one might have about the prophet.

Overall, I think this book is a great book that can be used as a guide for households on how to make a marriage successful. I am very happy that this book is translated to English for the whole world to read and see how lucky Muslims are to have the prophet Muhammed as a mentor and how a lot of what is being said about our beloved prophet is nothing but false accusations.
Definitely a MUST read!

This short book gives insights into the domestic life of our Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and talks about how we should apply what we learn into our own marriages. It discusses how the Prophet (SAW) dealt with his wives and relays various stories about them. This book would have been even better if there was more of it, a longer read with more stories, examples, details and explanations provided.

A righteous spouse can be one of the best treasures of this world. And there is no better example for us to than our Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W). His guiding principles for a successful married life are the most beautiful and time-honoured gifts we can get and implement.
The book begins with the lineage and family of the Prophet (S.A.W) and then describes his marital life which includes incidences that gives us lessons and gems to become a better spouse through the best example. It also highlights the issue of polygamy and common criticism raised against the Prophet's (S.A.W) spotless character. It then concludes, by illustrating the marriages of the Prophet (S.A.W) in a table format along with a family tree.

This book is small in number of pages, however, it has a lot of gems that we need in our lives. The life of our Prophet (S.A.W) through the stories of his marriages, made me surprised, teary and also felt joy at times. I was surprised to find that he also faced similar problems that we find in our community today and the way he dealt with those situations were amazing. He was so patient towards any of his wives' shortcomings, and practiced justice towards all of his wives. He was also considerate to the feelings of his wives, some being very young he made sure that they get to enjoy according to their age. He was considerate when Aisha (RA) was playing with her friends, and when he entered and her friends would hide, but the Prophet (S.A.W) would tell Aisha (RA) to go and play with them. Which shows how much he was aware of the needs of her age and her vulnerabilities.

I also found amazing how the Prophet (S.A.W) listened to the story of Aisha (RA) when she told a tale of eleven woman, and at the end of it, he said something very beautiful that won her heart and filled her with peace and happiness. Another heartfelt incident is that when one of his wives, Safiyah bint Huyay, fell from her camel while they were on a journey, and she was a sensitive one and began to cry. When the Prophet (S.A.W) found out, he came to her and wiped her tears with his own hands, upon which she started to cry even more. So he ordered the people to dismount, even though he had not wanted to dismount, which he did for the sake of his wife. He was really gentle and compassionate towards all his wives.

One of the most inspiring and heartfelt incidences for me in the book was the incident involving the slander against Aisha (RA) and its effects on the Prophet (S.A.W). This story really touched me. How Aisha (RA) reacted to the slanders that were made regarding her, was so innocent and as I was reading this part, it was as if I felt how difficult it was for her. Later in the story, when Prophet (S.A.W) came to her when she was at her parent's home, the words she said to the Prophet (S.A.W) described her intelligence despite her age and there were so much truth in her words. And Allah revealed the truth at that moment to Prophet (S.A.W) regarding her innocence. It was a beautiful example of patience and trusting Allah, by Aisha (RA) and as a result a verse was revealed regarding her, how amazing!

It acomplished its purpose & was very straight forward, no beating around the bushes and too much useless introductions. In general I'd give it 3 stars, but because I rarely find a book with Islamic information thats short, clear and easy to understand, I give it 4.
