Inspired by the girls from Copacabana

Mario Testino
is one of the world's most successful fashion and portrait photographers, whose images are noted for their freshness and intimacy. Peruvian by birth, Testino has been fascinated by Rio de Janeiro since his earliest summer vacations. "When I was 14, on holiday, and going from my house to the beach and seeing everyone walk everywhere in their tiny bathing suits—the girls and boys were so sexy and carefree and wild—I just could not believe it." This easy sensuality, sexual freedom and lust for life left a deep impression; Testino has been going back ever since, for work and fun, passion and inspiration. Featuring candid shots of exquisite cariocas baring nubile flesh, including supermodel Gisele Bündchen, MaRIO DE JANEIRO Testino captures the essence of this incomparably seductive city and its sultry citizens . From its breathtaking sunset panoramas, to the throbbing chaos of its world-famous carnival, this is Testino's love poem to the Brazilian metropolis that captured his teenage heart, and never let go.

Features include:
• Foreword by songwriter and singer Caetano Veloso
• Introduction by actress/TV personality Regina Casé
• Essay by supermodel Gisele Bündchen
• Softcover with plastic jacket—for beach reading—available in yellow, orange or red, inspired by Rio's glorious sunsets!

Beautiful photographs. Mario captures the city and people beautifully with his lenses. I underestimated the power of Brazilians because I did not expect this book to be as sensual as it is. Gisele Bundchen describes the book and people so nicely accurately. How everyone is comfortable with their skin and sexuality. Feels like there is no judgement in Rio. If I'm being completely honest,I only bought this book because Gisele is on the cover, and other supermodels like Isabeli Fontana and Ana Beatriz are featured in it. Wish there were more landscape photographs and tourist destinations featured.

I had hoped to see more morenos and negros but nonetheless a satisfying compilation of photos. I checked out this tome thinking it would feature more everyday people. If all you want is beautiful people, get this.

I figured out a new way to travel! Find the most lush, sensuous, and immersive photo book of a place you want to visit (or revisit) and leave it on your coffee table for a few weeks. I did that with this incredible photo book about Rio de Janeiro which pulls off a three-way cross between Rio’s jaw-dropping natural beauty, its iconic arts and culture, and its deep sexual energy. The forward by Gisel Bündchen is skippable (sorry Gisel) but if you’ve been to Rio and felt the electricity of the beaches and nightlife then this book will send you back. Giant, immersive photo books are like plane tickets during coronavirus and lockdown!
