JET V – Legacy is the fifth installment in the bestselling JET series, which follows the saga of the Mossad’s deadliest ex-operative, who faked her own death to escape her past. In this novel, JET is called upon to make the ultimate sacrifice in order to keep the ones she loves, and the world, safe.
This is the 5th book in the Jet series and they must be read in order. Jet is being pulled back into the Mossad. Somali Pirates hijacked an American freighter. They move the loot on shore where a suitcase nuclear device goes off and kills them. Then it is discovered there is another suitcase nuclear device out there. The Arab League is meeting in Qatar. A group called the Council says they have the suitcase bomb and will blow up the League. The Council is a radical group of Israeli who think the current government is not forceful enough with the enemies of Israel. Jet and a team from the Mossad are called in to find the bomb.
The book is well written. The pace is fast and the action is non-stop. This book is a bit different from the prior four books. The story has lots of political intrigue. The plot twist and turns in a global setting as Jet goes from Israel to Libya, Tunisia, back to Israel and then off again. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
Braden Wright does a good job narrating the book. Wright is an actor, voice-over artist and an audiobook narrator.
Not one of the best books in this series, in fact a frustrating book to read. The book starts with a collection of incidents that are meant to set the scene for the rest of the book, but really they just become tedious to read. The problem is I don’t care about any of the characters and so even if their stories have some superficial interest, it’s not enough to make me want to continue reading. I read these books because I want to find out what happens to Jet not all these other characters the author keeps introducing, and then often killing. If it weren’t for the fact I really like Jet I would have given up on this book after three or four chapters. It isn’t until chapter nine that Jet finally makes an appearance. Even when Jet makes an appearance she doesn’t really take a controlling role in the main story, she jumps from one location to another following the action until the last few pages when she finally takes charge. There is also a secondary plot involving Matt, which isn’t that interesting and is left unresolved again. If I was reviewing this as a standalone I suppose I would think this isn’t a bad thriller, the problem is, it’s part of a series and I have an emotional attachment to the heroine and I really don’t think the author has done her justice.
First paragraphs A cold rain fell from the gunmetal sky, driven by a relentless wind that carried with it the distinctive smell of the sea. The Mediterranean was unrecognizable as the placid, azure depiction on the tourist-shop postcards, instead an angry snarl that battered the breakwater of the Genoa harbor with startling intensity. The overcast brooding over the city flashed with bursts of lightning as dusk released its hold and night settled in, the celestial pyrotechnics illuminating the hulls of massive cargo ships secured to the concrete piers that lined the waterfront. Rivers of murky water streamed down the ancient gutters, spilling over onto the cobblestones that jutted through the asphalt where it had worn away, a casualty of the near-constant procession of overloaded semi-rig wheels that carried cargo to and from the busy port. Two security guards in black slickers patrolled near the access gate for the B section, reluctantly making their slow rounds, inured to the deluge and reconciled to slogging through whatever nature threw at them, fortified by strong black tobacco cigarettes and the knowledge that payday was right around the corner. The yard was empty, the shifts of rowdy longshoremen having departed for the day, and other than the token security presence and an occasional scurrying wharf rat desperate to find shelter, the area was deserted.
Blake, Russell (2013-04-02). JET V - Legacy (p. 1). Reprobatio Ltd. Kindle Edition.
Russell Blake delivers another action filled adventure. The first portion of the book was largely building the background story with a number of seemingly unrelated events, and I have admit that I was missing Jet, wondering where she had wandered off to. I have to say that some of the details in the early boat scenes were quite graphic, and actually caused me to cringe.
Once Jet finally surfaced twenty percent in, my link with her past struggles and victories was reactivated, and the story became more engaging. Jet is such a cool character and a total professional, but she has an underlying vulnerability, her daughter. I just hope that her daughter, Hannah, is spared from harm for the whole series. My fingers are crossed for her. The plot was revealed at a good pace, in true RB style and I liked the unexpected twist when they took the bomb dude in for questioning.
I've been hooked on this series since Jet 1 and thoroughly enjoyed this instalment as well. I’m looking forward to reading the next phase of Jet’s adventures.
You would think that Jet could catch a break at some point. I hated how the director of the Mossad pulled her back in, hated even more the move that they made at the end. I was glad that Jet anticipated it and worked around it.
I can't say that I was surprised at what happened with Matt, so I don't know why he didn't expect it.
I hope that the future that Jet and Matt envision can come true.
Legacy by Russell Blake continues the story of Jet, an ex-Mossad agent. Once again Jet it forced in to working for Mossad with the promise that she can disappear again.
This is the 1st of the 5 Jet books in which I have been disappointed. I love the character of Jet and just felt like she wasn't given top billing in this novel.
The fast-paced all-action drama tells of Jet's mission in scenes both current and in flashbacks which is somewhat disconcerting at first, until the action settles into present-day mode and the threads all come together, in book 5 of the Jet series by the excellent Russell Blake.
We learn initially of the deaths in a bomb blast of Mossad agents Adam and Samuel, while on stakeout at the harbour in Genoa, Italy, then the action flashes back to three months earlier in Somalia, where a captain and his crew aboard their old fishing vessel the Salome are targeted by Jiang-Li's thugs, who seize it and take them all to Somalia as hostages. Then another flashback takes us to Baghdad, where three rogue Mossad agents have stolen two 'suitcase' nukes that they plan to re-arm and sell to the highest bidder.
When this turns out to be a US syndicate who intend to detonate it in the Middle East, Jet and her team have only a very short time to find and disarm the bomb, before it starts World War III. Needless to say, our heroine saves the day and is able to make real (if only for a short time) her dream life with daughter Hannah and lover Matt in their South American refuge - until the next mission comes along!
I would recommend this book to fans of James Bond and Modesty Blaise, as secret agent Jet overcomes all opponents at lightning speed and still finds time for family and romance in a dangerous world! More to come in the series, with Justice (Book 6- of 13, to date), next in line.
Jet is back. After her last adventure, she escapes Washington DC with Matt, and drives across the country to leave her old life behind (again). Unfortunately it turns out that the Mossad can track her, and they recruit her into doing one last job for her old organization. A Russian suitcase nuke has gotten loose, and a rogue Israeli cartel plans to detonate it and.... start World War 3, I guess? Jet is the only agent in the world who can track down the bomb and stop armageddon. She agrees to leave her daughter Hannah in South America a little longer to do the job. The action is good, though a bit short. The plot doesn't feel terribly believable, but I want to find out what happens with Jet, so I'll stick with it anyway.
Jet somehow always manages to keep one step ahead of her enemies. Now she is faced with a no win situation. The director of Mossad needs her for one last mission. Israel's survival depends on it. Actually world peace. She needs to disarm a nuke in the middle east, Doha Qatar. A meeting will be taking place there between leaders who all oppose Israel's existence. Amazingly the people who are planning to detonate the bomb are all prominent influential people in Israel. There twisted logic thinks they will be eliminating all of Israel's problems. The exact opposite will occur if they are successful. Non stop action!!! Another excellent read in this series!!! Enjoyed immensely!!
Jet, Mossad's deadliest ex-operative, is called upon to make the ultimate sacrifice in order to keep the ones she loves, and the world, safe.
Great moving action. Jet is an incredible character, always mission-minded. She goes into danger without outer concern for her safety. She's a mom with a deep love for her child.
Good series. I look forward to the next book. Heart-stopping ending. Or is it?
Rated: PG13 Scenes of violence. No curse words. No sexual scenes.
So another adventure of being forced into dealing with those bent on destruction, this time for the old boss left more people dead, more colleagues injured but key Jet was just about OK and the man she has chemistry with alive and working to get back to her..........you're hoping this will all means she can get back to her young daughter BUT as you know there are more adventures in the series "there may be trouible ahead...." Another very good read! The action and plot all too believable in the current climate!
I chose this rating because I found the storyline boring. This is the most boring plot amongst the Jet series. Basically she was tasked with finding a bomb and stopping it. So quiche.and the battle scenes that Jet is known for were missing. I hope the next book in the series is better.
This was a “nail biter”... there were a few times I didn’t want to read the next chapter anticipating what might happen. But, I read it and I’m glad I did! Blake has a way with words... If you read carefully you will see sing sing sentences and phrases that just flow together so nicely. I appreciate those little things.
I have not read the previous book yet and this takes one takes 20% to get set up before the main character appears, not to my liking. I ‘ll bet this is Blake’s style. After Jet appears this takes takes off. I t is a great story revolving around a suit case nuke. Loved it 5
Good addition. Did not expect to have to wait until Chapter 9 for Jet to arrive on the scene.
First few chapters confused me with the time table. I guess it was necessary, but confusing none the less. The secondary plot line with Matt was also unnecessary. I guess setting up future novels.
Continuing the nonstop imaginative entertaining activities that culminate in Doha (where I was privileged to visit several years ago and view the headquarters of the Al Jazeera news organization). Ready for the next installment of the series.
Exciting, intense, complicated situations. Great character development, interesting and as I mentioned intense. Sucking the reader into the story. Definitely keep you on the edge of your seat.
Hard to put down and causing me to be up too late, I highly recommend this next installment of the story. This gal is one tough cookie and while the jumping around in the first several chapters had me wondering, it was worth the wait.
Wild but believable premise based on last several years. Obviously the female Rambo came through and we have to tune in for the next installment. Probably will.
