Kelly Young has lived all over the great province of Ontario. A graduate of the English literature program at the University of Waterloo, she moved to a small town on the shores of Lake Huron in southwestern Ontario with her husband, and together they raised two sons and a clowder of cats.

Kelly worked as a freelance reporter for many years, switching to full time reporting for the local paper briefly before taking herself to a much quieter bookstore. An avid swimmer and former swim team coach who tries to swim 2 1/2 kilometres at least two times a week, she has recently retired from a position as swimming instructor at her local pool.

Kelly currently rules over an empty nest in a small southwestern Ontario city with her husband and two new kittens.

*Not to be mistaken for the OTHER Kelly Young of "Sex with the Lawyer" fame, whose books continually get listed as mine, no matter how many times I ask for them to be removed.*

This book focuses on an older woman being interviewed by her nephew to explain what happened in the past when she was part of the "Legion" or 6000. She is a likable and feisty character despite her unusually great age. The world was at a crossroads between good and evil. Evil appeared to be taking over. Some greater force (never referencing religion or a single "God" character), banded together 6000 likeminded people to form the Legion. They were able to communicate via telepathy after some practice. They then were given the choice to decide who on the planet would live or die, due to their own actions. The first wave took out murders, and people suddenly dropped dead. The other waves, took out evil to lesser degrees until the balance was restored. Some of the 6000 formed relationships with each other. They had the choice to live as long as they wanted, or they could choose to live a normal lifespan. A great character was a newswoman who had been objectified, and as she passed through each wave, watching her co-workers and superiors drop on live TV and in the studio, she became empowered and was able to be herself in the end. It's a great read, and I enjoyed it very much. I could see the parallel to the evil's of today's world, and would not be opposed to seeing this happen, because there are so many good people in the world that deserve better. Well done and highly recommend!

Quite the page turner ! A creative and thought-provoking storyline that is well constructed and leaves the reader wanting more. Written in such a way one really feels connected to each character and can imagine the world created from a single idea. Would read again!

My husband's review:
"Loved this book!
I was surprised at how easily I was drawn into this uniquely interesting plot. Very gripping storyline that keeps you turning the pages late into the night. In these turbulent times, this book will comfort you and make you believe in karma." - Richard H. Reich
