On the mountain, safety is an illusion. Control is a dream. And survival isn’t guaranteed. Jimmy Swain isn’t just a driver; he’s an angel in a tow truck, rescuing motorists from the most deadly route on the peak. But when the mountain itself is angry, even the locals aren’t safe and the city slickers don’t stand a chance. When a freak storm traps Jimmy and an eclectic group of strangers on a high pass in unthinkable conditions, panic sets in. It’s up to Jimmy to keep them alive and he’s never lost anyone yet. That’s about to change. Surviving the elements is hard enough, but something worse than bad weather lurks in the icy darkness. They said it wasn’t real. They said it was a legend. They were wrong.
DJ Davis is a Colorado writer with mountains in her DNA. The rugged high country and rich history of the state set the scene for her characters. She’s the author of several novels and short stories. When she’s not writing or photographing the wildlife, she frequently disappears into the wilderness with her husband and dogs.
I have read everything this author has put out. While I was a bit skeptical at first about this story it sucked me in and wouldn’t let me go until I finished it.... less than 24 hours from start to finish. I love a story where the ‘bad’ guy redeems himself, and this story doesn’t disappoint. There were certain parts of the story that I didn’t like but I understand they had to be there to make the story what it was. I loved this and will read it again in a heartbeat.
A group of ordinary people are trapped in an extraordinary situation and must come together to survive, not only the elements, but a threat that is definitely not normal. I really enjoyed this story. The character interactions were entertaining, the Native American mythology aspect is always of interest, and the overall message is important. Read the whole thing in two sittings and would recommend it.
I thought this would be a basic horror or slasher story but it was not. I won't spoil the story but to say I loved the characters and the ending. Its so good!
I picked this book up as it was a freebie on an Amazon. I read the reviews at how good it was so I started reading it. It is a very good story. One I wasn’t expecting. Highly recommend.
