This Was a Really Cute Story....I enjoyed the introduction of Carter's Friends also.....Carter has a personality similar to Crayson...I guess it's self to state that he's a perfect balance between Crayson and Caden....Initially, it was a rough reunion for Carter & Serenity but the old feelings resurfaced quickly and the two (2) of them found their way back to one another. I did think the story about Serenity's step-father Rodney and his brother would be a little more developed...BTW what happen to Rodney's brother? Did I miss something? Overall, I must say that I enjoy stories about the Madden Men.
My original exposure to Ms. Green’s To Marry A Madden catalog was because of my appreciation of narrator Jakobi Diem’s talent. I dove into the series wanting to experience the artistry he brings to narration, and I’m so been pleased to have been introduced to her work.
This is the fourth book in the series and it only heightens the anticipation that the Madden family has built for the readers/listeners. Green makes sure that she takes her time when developing characters, and it pays off in a great way. Carter’s Undoing is suspenseful and mysterious, while being sexy and funny at the same time.
As always, Diem adds a layer of complexity with his interpretation of the main and peripheral characters that is spot on. Mari, the female narrator, does a solid job as well. Definitely recommend!
If I'm being honest, I was not a huge fan of this series. Carter's Undoing was just meh for me. Serenity and Carter have a long complicated history and we finally get some clarity on why he left 16 years ago. His reasons for leaving were silly. Carter's family pretty much ran the town they lived in so, I don't understand why he and Serenity just didn't go to his parents for help. But, I digress. For some reason, I wasn't that engaged with Serenity and Carter as a couple. They just didn't speak to my spirit but, I'm glad they finally got their HEA. They deserved it. We know what happened to Rodney but, I need somebody to tell me what happened to his brother. Did Kevin get some hot led too?!!!
Something about this one didn’t quite read well, the story was a little choppy. Also why didn’t y’all tell me I was supposed to read this series before I read the Crowne Series last year.
this book was everything and more! i took a small break from this series for a few reasons: 1. i knew that i wanted to finish the crowne legacy series before jumping into carter's book, and 2. i was having trouble listening to audiobooks (which is how i was reading this series.) - and bro, i can honestly say this was worth the wait!
sherelle green has cemented herself as my favourite new author of this year, i've managed to read fourteen books by her this year and have not been disappointed! she really is that girl!
serenity and carter are my favourites of this series (dw, i still love me some crayson & jordyn!) i just love everything about their story, and i loved how they were both able to come back to each other and find their safe space again. i'm telling you, when a girl says her type is someone dark and mysterious, i would def say carter fits the bill. he just seamlessly worked his way back into her life despite leaving her with no explanation when they were younger. (and even though i thought the reason was almost underwhelming,) i love how everything that he did was to protect her. love love LOVE them!!
can't wait to get into the last book of the series, can't believe it's almost over tho! :(((((
Carter and Serenitys story was invigorating and so unexpected. I was very curious as to what kept Carter away for over 15 years from his triplet brothers, older brothers, parents, family and his one true love Serenity. What unfolded in this story was truly heartbreaking, yet endearing all the same. Talk about pulling at your heart strings, geez. I took Serenity as a woman who needed to be handled with care, but she proved she was a real trooper; ready for war if need be. I didn't think I would enjoy this as much as I did. Now, I need the final story to wrap up all that the Madden men have given in this series. This was so great to read. Highly recommend it.
I'm not sure I've met a Carter I didn't love. I Loved this one immensely. His brooding demeanor and mysterious personality added to his sex appeal. Serenity was indeed his peace and security. I loved the way she forgave him and the way the years they spent apart melted away. You will love meeting the missing piece to the Madden Men's puzzle. The story was worth the wait.
This was my favorite book in the series. This book is a romantic suspense story of high school sweethearts getting a second chance at their forever. Jakobi and Mari did an amazing job with the narration. Jakobi’s voice is like velvet and he has done an amazing job again with this set of brothers.
Loved learning more about the mysterious Carter. After being apart for so long, he and Serenity still loved each other. Serenity loved him since she was twelve years old. I liked how the book went back and forth from past to present. Carter was a protector of the people he loved. And finding out why he stayed away for so long made more sense.
I think Carter Madden, the last Madden Brother to finally get at a love of his own, may be my second favorite Madden brother-BEHIND his SEXY TWIN CRAYSON MADDEN, that is! I even like Serenity's character too. But I don't like how they practically drugged & kidnapped her in order for Carter to take her where he felt that they would both be safer. I felt that that was a violation on many levels of Serenity's rights, who in this book had been violated enough by people she was suppose to trust. I don't like that a person who had endured abuse on all levels throughout her life had been tied up or chained to a couch by a man who claimed to love her & was keeping her safe, but knew full well what she had endured at the hands of her parents, Yet, he-who Serenity had not seen Carter in 16 years- would have her in a place that she did not know under those circumstances against her will-all to keep her safe from her diabolical stepdad, who wasn't aware of where they were. I found it funny that Serenity thought that that part-dog/part-wolf 'pet' of Carter's was a threat, which made Carter laugh! I was glad that Carter got a chance to feel like a 'kid in a candy store' when he & Serenity finally made love after many years apart! I loved that Carter's friends: THE DRIFTERS": SCOTCH; JACKY-D; CAP; PATRON; & the rest came through to meet Serenity & support "The GOLDEN BOY"! I was more than glad that dementedly sick a**hole pervert, Rodney & his friends finally met their end after they tormented Carter even further before 'THE DRIFTERS' came to rescue their "GOLDEN BOY"! While Caden & Cordelia were made husband & wife, MAMA MADDEN encouraged Carter to 'POP THE QUESTION' to Serenity, which he finally had done!
Carter Madden and Serenity Taylor were inseparable as children. They were the best of friends who supported and protected each other and inevitably fell in love. Out of the blue, Carter makes an abrupt decision to enlist in the Military. He leaves Serenity and his family heartbroken. Now, fifteen years later he is back and he plans to win back the woman he never stopped loving. This story concludes the “To Marry A Madden” series and I was anticipating this book for awhile. Honestly, I was prepared to hate Carter for all the pain he caused the people who loved him. However, I never expected to feel intense sorrow and to be smacked with such shocking details regarding his departure. After the mystery of Carter’s past fifteen years were revealed, the book took off on an action packed ride that left me in complete and utter shock. I was floored. Carter definitely morphed into a hot, bad ass hero. He remained fierce with defending his family. This story was different from the other’s in the series and took me on such an emotional rollercoaster. I enjoyed witnessing the work Carter and Serenity took to work through their issues and gain back the trust they once had. Overall, I really enjoyed getting to know Carter outside of the scandal that tore his family's world upside-down. It was refreshing to read about his redemption and accepting the man he became. Although, sometimes the story dragged out, I felt the author did a good job closing out the series while repairing the damage and frail relationship of the Madden family.
I reviewed Carter’s Undoing for Romance in Color and it earned the Award of Excellence! It picks up where Caden’s Situationship ended.
Carter left home to join the military when Serenity needed him the most. Serenity has her guard up and is conflicted about her first and only love abandoning her, then coming back in her life so dramatically. She also realizes that no amount of time will diminish her feelings for him. Carter was her “Golden Boy” and has now turned into a serious, focused, brooding Man with Scars that don’t tell half of his story, but in Serenity’s opinion make him look downright sexy. Carter’s Undoing focuses on revelations, Carter and Serenity’s reconnection and the debts Carter has to pay off in order to truly move on.
Carter and Serenity have to rebuild their trust, friendship and break down their walls. It’s inevitable that shared passion builds up and eventually boils over. Carter shows Serenity she’s always been in his heart and is her guardian angel. Serenity is much more than a name. She is Carter’s peace and sense of calm.
The theme of Carter’s Undoing is second chance love and is Ms. Green’s labor of love to this couple. The focus is Carter and Serenity, but there is a family reunion of sorts that allows us to reconnect with the Madden clan. I highly recommend Carter’s Undoing.
OMG OMG when the plot thickens!!!! My absolute favorite part about this book is when the Crowne legend series and this series intertwined!!!! I have to stop reading my mouth was wide open. I loved that series too so it was great seeing the story and characters again. Outside of that this book really did give a completely different vibe. Carter and Serenity’s story is complicated and has so much hurt and uncertainty to it. This was literally a journey to finding a way back and getting to unfold all the secrets that have kept you apart for years. You will for sure feel hurt the anger, cry, laugh a little and find joy. After all the years being apart nor Carter or Serenity are the same people when Carter left but under it all the core of who and what they mean to one another remains. To be someone’s weakness a whole world. Whereas the other person is your protector and safe space. Even without being together they still remained so as blood couldn’t make them more connected with the way Serenity is embedded and Carter’s family more than she even knows.
Like I said the this book kind of intertwined with a different series but I read that series 1st. Sheree Green is a great author and her books/novels come to life as you read!!!
Wow hard to imagine the evil in some men's hearts!
Such was the case with the stepfather and mother of Serenity the love of the last Madden triplet. I wondered through most of this book what drove Carter Madden from his large loving family. I also wondered about the snippets of Serenity's inner thoughts about Carter or the reaction of Caden when he encountered Carter in his home at their other triplet Crayson's wedding. I never would have guessed the things that panned out as the story progressed in a million years. I was so glad that the nightmare for both Serenity and Carter came to an end when it did so the two of them could truly begin their life together. This story had me on a roller coaster of emotions from the moment I picked up in this book where it left off in Caden's story. I truly enjoyed this story even the well deserved end of Serenity's stepfather and his demented brother. I also got a glimpse of how the military special forces turn ordinary men and women into killers on demand! Just amazing is all I can say!!!!!
**3 1/2 stars** I was really looking forward to reading Carter’s story. He’d been mentioned throughout each of the books in the series and just “showed up” in Caden’s book ready to take charge.
And by take charge, I mean take over. This was alpha, dominant, Carter at his finest. He came for Serenity and no matter how much she protested, she was taken by Carter again.
First loves bittersweet, but Carter and Serenity’s relationship had so much going against them. I wasn’t prepared for their backstory. As much as this was about their future, their past and how they got to where they are was not only necessary, but riveting.
There is somewhat of a twist, maybe more like a shocker instead f a twist. I honestly didn’t see it coming but everything made perfect sense once I got over the shock. The way it was revealed was also in time with the characters, so it was like you were living the moment with them instead of already knowing and waiting for them to catch up.
Can you say amazing? These Madden men, are the truth! Wasn't sure what to expect from Carter, as he has been estranged from his family for so long. But, Damn! Carter is a beast! This man has known what it is to be a man, since he was a teenager. He cared for, loved and protected his girl since they were twelve years old. The lengths that he went through then, and continued to endure to protect her now was just everything! Serenity, had a horrible childhood. But, she was able to maintain with her love for Carter. She was so angry, hurt and disappointed at him for leaving his family and her, when she needed him most. Once they reunited and the truths came to light, her love for him grew tenfold! This couple was just meant to be! Loved them. Now, I am so curious about the older two Madden brothers, as well as papa Madden. Hopefully we get to hear their stories as well. Great work!!
Exceptional Read This review is not easy to write. It is not because this is a bad book, it is just challenging to formulate the right words. Some books contain experiences and circumstances that are so exceptional and Carter’s #Undoing is one of them. Sherelle’s writing in this book is of “rare air.” She allows the readers inside Carter’s psyche. What a journey the readers will undergo as they explore this book! It is revealed why Carter has been estranged from his family and friends for a lot years. There are some twists that I could not predict or see coming. If you are looking for a different style of writing; if you are looking for an unapologetic view of a troubled and concealed complicated hero; if you are seeking to read a simply outstanding book; than pick-up Carter’s #Undoing!! You will not be disappointed!!!
Carter’s #Undoing definitely took the series in an unexpected direction—and honestly, the storyline was so far left I nearly got whiplash. While Serenity and Carter’s “first love is true love” connection has been a subtle thread throughout the series, this book delivers their story through some seriously dramatic moments that felt worlds apart from the lighter, easy-read vibe of the previous installments.
That said, Sherelle Green’s writing remains strong. The story is well-told, the emotion is real, and the characters—especially Serenity and Carter—still pull you in with their history and chemistry. It’s a bold departure, but a compelling one, even if it wasn’t quite the breezy experience the earlier books offered.
A dramatic, intense twist in the series—beautifully written, just not what I expected.
This one sat heavy in the chest. Carter’s Undoing was intense, emotional and quietly devastating in the way only buried secrets and broken promises can be. Carter’s love for Serenity was unwavering, unconditional and rooted in protection even when that protection cost him everything. Serenity my goodness what she endured in that household was heartbreaking. No one walks away from that untouched. Having Carter by her side was heaven sent.
I hated that Carter had to disappear to keep her safe, especially knowing he was the glue holding his family together. His absence echoed through every page. This story wasn’t soft or easy. It was sacrifice, survival and love tested by circumstances no one should have to face. Starting at the end didn’t hurt at all but it definitely made me want to circle back and understand the full weight of the Madden men. This one was powerful.

CW: Kidnapping; murder; violence; body mutilation; attempted sexual assault; mention of drug use; child abuse by a parent; physical assault on child
Ok this last book actually might be the best for me because this suspenseful ass story was written really well and it captures my interest. Serenity goes through so much though, and some of it I don’t agree with but I guess those are the best characters, the ones you wanna fight. Carter and his whole military killer situation was uncomfortable to say the least. I appreciated the author giving us a lot of back story to him as a kid before joining the U.S. military and then after when he became a mercenary, it felt like that made him less of a creep lol.
Come all the way through, Carter, and reconfirm that the Madden triplets are book boyfriend magic! And the fact that his distance has been solely for the safety of his family and Serenity? Makes it much easier to forgive him when he reveals all the darkness that has drowned him for 16 years.
From Malakai's story, it was somewhat unconventional to know that Serenity had never stopped being an honorary Madden even after Carter broke her heart and theirs by disappearing. But learning that she has always been a Madden from the time they were 12 and that their whole family worked hard to keep her as safe as they could from her unfortunate family life? Explains how Serenity was even able to function around 2 other men who looked exactly like the man who stole her heart.
Carter touched my heart from day one. This was a new side of Sherelle’s writing I’ve never seen before. Digging and uncovering why Carter had been gone for so long was a shocker. I would have never thought one of the Madden men could be so hard and sexy. The descriptions of Carter dripped from the pages, it was as if I could see him standing before me. My heart was racing as he faced his enemies all in the name of love. His girl is a true rider. When he received the message for a new job I about died from laughing at Serenity’s response. Great book oh and now we have to get a series around his friends
Where, its been a long time coming but I finally got the chance to read and learn the last Madden brother. This was an eye-opening, emotional, intense, revealing, and healing story but it had to be told. I am glad Carter were finally able to tell it and walk into his healing. He was also able to earn his better half back in the process. Carter and Serenity was the definition of soul mates, their chemistry started at the mere age of twelve.
This was a great read, I most definitely recommend this book. I am also glad we got introduced to the Crownes, I know their love stories going to be explosive.
Carter and Serenity both sounded like wounded souls from the very beginning. I was hoping Sherelle Green would present his story in a whimsical and satisfying way. Definitely surprised and thankful to finally understand why, why, why....why the distance? Why the secrecy? Why the poor communication? All to learn that he had been caught up in the matrix to save the love of his life. Not bad, not exactly what I thought either. And learning about Serenity's crackhead mom and what she did....lock HER UP (if she wasn't already gone from here). Glad to see a heartwarming end and final sacrifice for love.
Loved it!!! I was crying like I really knew the characters, in this book. Carter and Serenity's story is emotional and heartfelt. You will not want to put this book down. Abuse, physical and verbal are horrible. No one should have to go through that, but it happens and when you have someone and their family that supports and helps you through....the choices we make to keep our love ones safe may hurt and cause pain, but will love be enough to see look part all the hurt and confusion?? Enjoy your reading!! Blessings
First let me say I was dead set on hating Carter and even was able to hold onto that anger until Serenity read that letter. I was like "see I knew it" I didn't know anything. I just wanted him to a bad man because he broke my girl's heart all those years ago. I read this book with trepidation because I had no idea how Ms. Green would redeem him, to say that I was shocked by the events in this story and I was not expecting the thrilling ride that the story took me on. Get this book you won't regret it.
I think this was my favorite Madden story! To love someone from the age of 12 , then to be separated for all those years, the hurt Serenity and Carter experienced only to end up like this was a true love story. Those awful men, they deserved everything they got and more! Her crackhead of a mama, wow! This story was truly beautiful, well written, it was like watching it unfold before my eyes! Just beautiful. Thank you Sherelle Green for a wonderful tear jerker read, I loved it! Can't wait to read about the Crowne's!
