I bought this book new in Berea, KY even though I could have read it free in Kindle Unlimited. I like to help local authors when traveling by making such purchases. I had such high hopes…
First off, let me say that the plot was good enough to give the book a 4-star rating. A bit convoluted, but I figured its the first book of a series so room for improvement, but still an interesting plot.
However, what I have to say next is the book’s inexcusable part of this review. Typos, grammatical errors galore, poor sentence structure, nonsense paragraphs (Example: an entire paragraph about the detective singing in her car… so what!) HIRE A PROOFREADER AND EDITOR!!!!!
Also use the RIGHT words: one does not “shew” a cat out the door, rather you would “SHOO” a cat out the door. These are two different words with different meanings. Another example used: the detective made a “B-line” to the office. It should have been “beeline”.
I very rarely write negative reviews. But as I pointed out earlier, my experience with such poor writing is inexcusable, in my opinion. Therefore, I gave it a generous 2-star rating. Sadly, I won’t be reading the series. It’s unfortunate because the plot quality held high potential.

i was happy to give this book a shot & support a lesser-known author!
to preface, i will admit this was a little rough around the edges: misspelled words, frequently repeated phrases, sometimes choppy writing, small things like that. for that i have to subtract -1 star.
with that set aside, the plot, pacing, and characters in this book were very enjoyable and suspenseful. the book moved along at a pace that kept me turning pages and interested, and the characters were funny and lovable (well, except for the bad guys!). as for the actual plot, there were a lot more twists and turns than i had expected. definitely pay close attention as there are a handful of names to follow. the mastermind is never who you think it is! the complexity of the mystery keeps you on your toes until the very end!
